Fireworks await at UFC 145 on March 24th. The UFC always does an admirable job of matching up guys with similar styles to please the fans, and they will likely not leave disappointed when Canadian John Makdessi meets Anthony Njokuani. UFC.com has the info:
Two of the most exciting strikers in the lightweight division have verbally agreed to throw down in Montreal, Canada at UFC 145 as Anthony "The Assassin" Njokuani takes on John "The Bull" Makdessi." Both men are coming off of disappointing December losses to high-level wrestlers, but should be able to show off their kickboxing chops against one another.
The 26-year-old Makdessi (9-1, 2-1 UFC) is coming off a disappointing first-round submission loss to Dennis Hallman at UFC 140, but will look to rekindle the magic of his bout before that, where he knocked out Kyle Watson with a highlight-reel spinning backfist at UFC 129. Njokuani (14-6, 1-2 UFC) dropped a close split decision to Danny Castillo at UFC 141, and will look to rebound with a noteworthy performance.

Nice to see they are ditching the whole let either of these guys fight anyone with a ground game idea.

Double spinning back fist KO.

Would their elbows collide first?
I can’t decide.

I thought Makdessi would have dropped to 145
especially after seeing how helpless he was against a bigger wrestler. He seems too small for 155.
av1o3 - January 11, 2012
it was a combination of that and Hallman not even making 155 to begin with but yeah he should drop
Earl Montclair - January 11, 2012
My thoughts exactly.
Njokuani is friggin huge, too. Tough fight for J- Mak
ElliotMatheny - January 12, 2012
When I read the title
I was surprised thinking Njokuani dropped to 145, because I just assumed Makdessi would do it, based on his last fight, when he looked really undersized for the division.
After reading, I’m surprised Makdessi is not moving down. Njokuani will tower him and get a brutal KO

This right here is gonna be a jolly good scrap.

crazedfan - January 12, 2012
both have very crisp striking at lightweight and no ground game at all, should be interesting.
Elitex10x - January 11, 2012
I have a feeling that I will enjoy this fight immensely.

Too good to be true
Watch this fight get hit by the injury bunny.

Then I hope the UFC has Jeremy Stephens on stand by.

This is the best kind of stupid fight.
Winner of this fights winner of Cerrone vs Pettis (which I just made up).
pdl - January 11, 2012
sounds good to me.
Tats16 - January 11, 2012
Shouldn't Pettis fight Lauzon before you schedule him again?
Chris Hall - January 12, 2012
Nope.
Because I want that fight no matter what happens against Lauzon because it’s stupid fun and WEC never die!
pdl - January 12, 2012
I like Pettis/Lauzon v Diaz for the titile shot
But if Pettis loses I’m down for that fight
Chris Hall - January 12, 2012
Whatevs
When Bendo smashes Edgar in the first round he’ll get to avenge his loss to the first winner of the PPV broadcast, Anthony Showtime Pettis!! Rematch for the UFC belt makes me cream in my cheese.

Chris Hall - January 12, 2012
Just felt like I had to add something so
discoandherpes - January 12, 2012
Except that Edgar is outboxing Bendo for a decision
50-44
discoandherpes - January 12, 2012
Dude
really?
SentientAndroid - January 12, 2012
Really
Ben Henderson has some kicks, but gets hit a lot in the striking department. Edgar is going to bounce in and out and box him up.
Ben Henderson is a great match up, but Edgar has been historically successful against wrestlers.
discoandherpes - January 12, 2012
Gotdamnit!
Stop making sense, I can actually see that happening! But an aggressive Bendo can put anyone at 155 on their backs imo.
SentientAndroid - January 12, 2012
WAR NJOKUANI

Straight up mugged.
Poor lil guy.
NickRingp4pGOAT - January 12, 2012
Awesome fight. Going with Njokuani though. Hes bigger, knows how to use his height to his advantage and is a more technical striker. Makdessi should move down to FW.
ProfessorBLove - January 12, 2012 via mobile
Njokuani by KO
But with a benefit – If he KTFOs him then maybe he can correct Makdessi’s cross-eyes.
SSreporters - January 12, 2012

crazedfan - January 12, 2012
Surprised
That Njokuani is still in the lightweight division. Didn’t think he’d last after getting ko’d by that dude with the big head. Isn’t he out of the ufc now? Jew something?
cager - January 12, 2012
Njokuani has been steadily improving. That loss might be the best thing that ever happened to him lol
ProfessorBLove - January 12, 2012 via mobile
He's been back and forth since then right?
Lightweight is becoming less crowded now that Maynard and Edgar are done fighting a million times. Can’t wait to see how all the divisions develope this year. Good time to be a fan.

I've already decided this will win FOTN
SSreporters - January 12, 2012
YUS!
I was hoping they’d match these guys up with strikers next, putting them together seems like a great choice. I think Njokuani overall has the more technical striking game, beautiful Muay Thai, and he’ll also have a significant height and reach advantage over the smaller Makdessi. I’ll definitely pick Njok for the win, but who knows, maybe Makdessi can surprise him with a little spinning something something.
Horselover Fat - January 12, 2012
Not a humpfest will this be, Joe
mburtoni - January 12, 2012 via mobile
I think Makdessi will throw him off with his unorthodox “look fakes” and turn this into a right fun scrap. There will be much spinning of body, flailing of limb and gnashing of teeth.
NickRingp4pGOAT - January 12, 2012
why Jon still does'nt choose to movedown is mind boggling……
