The UFC has been mulling going to Sweden for a long time, and after hearing about this, they must be wondering why they put this off for so long. They put out a release over the weekend stating that tickets for UFC on Fuel 2, which will take place in the Ericsson Globe in Stockholm, Sweden (which is awesome, by the way) sold out in three hours.
"People have been telling me how big of a market Sweden was for the UFC and today, the fans went out and proved it," UFC President Dana White said. "I love taking the UFC to new markets. I can’t wait to get to Stockholm in April because we’re going to put on a great event!"
The card will see top Swedish light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira in the main event, and will feature a variety of other Scandinavian fighters. Here is the current card:
Alexander Gustafsson vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Alessio Sakara vs. Brian Stann
Siyar Bahadurzada vs. Paulo Thiago
Damacio Page vs. Brad Pickett
DaMarques Johnson vs. John Maguire
Cyrille Diabate vs. Jorgen Kruth
Simeon Thoresen vs. Besam Yousef
Francis Carmont vs. Magnus Cedenblad
Papy Abedi vs. James Head
Akira Corassani vs. Jason Young

RashadsLeftNipple - January 16, 2012
Nuts
Can’t believe I slept on this and missed tickets. I had one quick look at prices and next thing sold out.
taptomyarmbar - January 16, 2012
This is a pretty solid card
No real big names, but some entertaining fights on paper
jack knight starman - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Solid first card
Lucky timing since Gustafsson is a legit choice to headline this card.
squaresphere - January 16, 2012

T.P. Grant - January 16, 2012

The fighters will have to be issued sunglasses so they're not blinded by the collective whiteness of the crowd
Thiago Silva’s already set.
menckenstein - January 16, 2012
I take it you haven’t been to a martial arts event in Stockholm before
Disco1Stu - January 16, 2012 via mobile
You are correct
However…

menckenstein - January 16, 2012
The martial arts scene is different. Look at the fighters – Besam Yousef, Papy Abedi, Akira Corassani – half aren’t exactly the typical blonde swedish stereotype yes? I’d expect to see roughly the same blend in the crowd.
Disco1Stu - January 16, 2012
Yes.. there were definitely a high percentage of non-typical Swedes in the crowd last time I was at a combat sports event in Stockholm. Hard to estimate but at least 30% I’d guess, possibly more. Then again, that’s probably reflecting of the general population in the larger Sthlm area (with suburbs). Seems to be the same in Holland for example, if you look at their kickboxing scene. Not sure exactly why, but that’s the way she goes I guess.
Horselover Fat - January 16, 2012
Swedes have discovered fake tan
Still may need the sunglasses though for the orange glow in there
taptomyarmbar - January 16, 2012
I think these guys are going
Hugin - January 16, 2012
I always wondered what happened if a pregnant woman ate too many slim jims.
menckenstein - January 16, 2012
First I was bummed Bahadurzada had to debut against Erick Silva
Now I’m bummed he has to debut against Paulo Thiago. Oh well.
crazedfan - January 16, 2012
They should make Fuel TV free for the weekend (Like what Strikeforce/Showtime did)
Saul Oliveros - January 16, 2012
Fuel is free basic HD cable here in NYC
RECE ROCK - January 16, 2012 via mobile
What provider?
mma.ly - January 16, 2012
Sweden is getting a damn good card, as far as the un-numbered ones go.
Rob Young - January 16, 2012
is it just me or is this card more stacked than UFC on FX?
if you go by the USA today rankings;
UFC on FX has 4 ranked fighters fighting (Miller, Guillard, Barry, and Brenneman)
UFC on Fuel has 8 ranked fighters fighting (Gustafssonn, Lil’ Nog, Sakara, Stann, Paulo, Siyar, Picket, and Page)
i always thought that the FX cards were somehow better than the Fuel cards
darkotto23 - January 16, 2012
Gotta make a statement going into a new market, regardless of where it's airing domestically
menckenstein - January 16, 2012
can't disagree with that, i guess the point i was trying to make had more to do with the lack of quality fighters on the FX card
it’s their first show on FX you’d think they would try to make a better impression
darkotto23 - January 16, 2012
The Muppets Take Manhattan...
The Swedish Chef: Yaa da poppin’ corn is…
[throws popcorn in the air] 3D! Da corn is popping in your face inna… [throws popcorn in his own face] 3-D!
RECE ROCK - January 16, 2012 via mobile
Can't wait to see Gustafsson fight again.
On the other hand I was not impressed with lil Nog’s striking in the Tito beatdown at all. We’ll see, but I think Gustafsson can very well take this fight.
killphil - January 16, 2012
i know why it dsold out so fast!!!!
its because the swedish chef from the muppets is going to be the cage announcer
Randy Daytona - January 16, 2012
More this in the crowd:
And less this:
Ricardo Arguello - January 16, 2012
Leave Dan Miragliotta's sons out of this!
menckenstein - January 16, 2012
So close and yet so far away.
Eugene Schelfaut - January 16, 2012
Me and two friends tried to buy tickets but they were already sold out.
I think that they could fill a much larger arena if a good venue exsisted.. As far as I know there arent any (much) larger arenas that are indoor venues is sweden…
Niklas_H - January 16, 2012
Pretty nice free card
Siyar vs Paulo is going to be crazy
Stiff Jab - January 16, 2012

yellopanda - January 16, 2012

the guy with the big nose - January 16, 2012
Best free card I can remember in awhile.
Can anyone confirm that you have to get “Sportsnet” for all UFC on FX/Fuel stuff if you’re in Canada? I heard that but couldn’t confirm it with Google.
Bolshevik - January 17, 2012
Oh, there’s a story about it on MMANation. Sportsnet One.
