"For the first time in three years, the UFC welterweight division will have a new champion."
With long time champ, Georges St. Pierre sidelined by injury, that's the angle they used on the latest promotional video released for UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit:
The interim UFC welterweight championship is on the line at UFC 143 in Las Vegas, as the pride of Stockton, California, Nick Diaz, brings an 11 fight undefeated streak, a win over BJ Penn, and an attitude and style like no other into the Octagon for a showdown with "The Natural Born Killer," former WEC champion and exciting finisher Carlos Condit.

Which means that this fight is between the first and last WEC welterweight champions.

Anyone else see this playing out very similarly to cerrone diaz? If condit, or hell anyone plans on standing with Nick Diaz for 5 rounds, They will lose.
Hendo_One-Shot - January 17, 2012
You don't think
Andy, Lyoto or Vitor could stand, trade and get the better of Diaz?
SentientAndroid - January 17, 2012
no but
bisping could.
gspmademegay - January 17, 2012
I can see Bisping...
MAYBE, but to say no to Anderson and Vitor (I can see about Lyoto I guess) and include Bisping is odd to to me.
SentientAndroid - January 17, 2012
thats because youre not very intellegent.
youre only like, 80% intellegent.
gspmademegay - January 17, 2012

SentientAndroid - January 17, 2012
condis more power and hes more diverse
WAR NATURAL BORN KILLER!!!!
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Agreed
Condit throws every strike he knows and takes this on the feet
Shaun32887 - January 17, 2012
war condit!
I hope he doesn’t stand there in front of him getting hit over and over with that pitter pat bullshit looking confused as hell like Cerrone did vs Nate. That would really shit in my Cheerios.
TheDreadedMarco - January 17, 2012
Bah if that fucking happens I say sick Rory McDonald on him. He made Nate look like a rag doll. He also made Condit look pretty vulnerable until the 3rd round where Carlos flipped a switch and went apeshit on Rory.
YoungGun - January 17, 2012
I love both guys
but Condit has not demonstrated that he has more power standing than Nick. Nick hits like a truck nowadays.
Dave Strummer - January 17, 2012
mmath class is in session
Condit>RoryMac>Nick Diaz=Nate Diaz
Therefore Condit>Nate Diaz. Mmath is irrefutable!
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
god damn android autocorrect! i meant Condit>NATE Diaz
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
FUCKING ANDROID! CONDIT>NICK DIAZ
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Do you have an MMA-specific phone?
does it really correct Nick to Nate?
Dave Strummer - January 17, 2012
i commented alot when nate fought cerrone
So it automatically assumes I’m writing Nate
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Good analogy Hendo. The only thing Condit and Cerrone can do better than Nick or Nate is throw kicks, and the Diaz brothers walk through kicks like the Prodigy walk through mindfields homie.
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
except condit has a better killer instinct and insane cardio to
And he’s a much smarter fighter to then cerrone.
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
What the hell is a mindfield?
Clay Davis - January 17, 2012
A song by the Prodigy
KJ Gould - January 17, 2012
And i thought he was talking BJ Penn. haha
Clay Davis - January 17, 2012
Diaz is sporting a Bison stance/mug
SentientAndroid - January 17, 2012
This picture makes my toes wiggle.
God I can’t wait.
Shaun32887 - January 17, 2012
The greyscaling makes it look like Condit is going to fight Dr. Zaius
menckenstein - January 17, 2012
a new champion? whot? a new "interim" champion, thank u.
Rampage01 - January 17, 2012
if diaz wins..
Do you think he will put this belt on?
Cause when he won the strikeforce belt he didn’t consider it the real deal.
And he isn’t the champ if he wins this interm garbage
Clay Davis - January 17, 2012
An exciting champion, thank you.
Infinitely better than Georges Sylvia Pierre
KJ Gould - January 17, 2012
You can’t criticize anything about GSP or his performances in the cage KJ, if you do it means you’re nothing more than a ‘just bleed’ type who understands nothing about the technical side of fighting and should stick to Toughman contests. In fact, it’s been proven that anyone who finds GSP anything less than thrilling is more prone to psychotic behaviour and various other personality disorders.
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
Ah, yes, the Canadian Homer defense :)
GSP is great. But he’s no Michael Bisping.
KJ Gould - January 17, 2012
An I allowed to bitch about Poirier not being on the main card?
T.C. Engel - January 17, 2012 via mobile
bitch away
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
No.
Max Holloway is a nobody in the UFC. Ed Herman is probably a more recognizable name and just had two consecutive sick finishes.
SSreporters - January 17, 2012
Point taken.
Ed Herman is absolutely nowhere near a title shot, though, while I definitely support Poirier for getting the next shot at Aldo, or if he moves up, fighting Koch or KZ for the title.
T.C. Engel - January 17, 2012
Have you ever seen Holloway fight?
This fight could easily take FOTN if Diaz and Condit weren’t fighting. Plus Poirier could easily be in line for a shot at the belt soon.
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
Finally an exciting welterweight championship bout
Meek Mill - January 17, 2012
More like a competitive one
GSP’s last 3 fights have been against either undeserving challengers (Hardy) or one-dimensional fighters completely out of their depth standing with someone like GSP (Shields, Koscheck).
This fight cannot fail.
SSreporters - January 17, 2012
DONT SAY THAT LAST PART YOU JINX
Noooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!! delete delete delete
menckenstein - January 17, 2012
the fight was already 5 round, so technically it's not a ww championship, plys it's an interim title, too bad for ur excitement.
Rampage01 - January 17, 2012
God, I'm loving this fight.
McKinley B. Noble - January 17, 2012

benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
wtf.......
jack knight starman - January 17, 2012
I think I might be a Diaz hater and I love seeing those guys fail for no reason at all
But I honestly see nothing that convinces me that Condit could ever beat Diaz. Which makes me a bit sad.
blutspender - January 17, 2012
Daley dropped Diaz a few times
so the idea that Nick definitely wins on the feet is kinda overblown. Condit’s striking is a thing of beauty as far as I’m concerned; the perfect mix of technical and aggressive, and FAR more diverse than Daley. I don’t think the idea of Condit rocking Diaz a few times is out of the question.
Carlos will have to fight a smart fight, which he is likely to do since he has Greg Jackson in his corner. I really think that more than any other fighter, he has the ability to fight a smart, patient fight until the time comes to swarm, at which point he flips a switch and turns into an aggressive, bloodthirsty beast. Fighting smart AND still retaining a killer instinct: it’s possible. Take notes GSP.
Additionally, his ground game is excellent. He has a few slick submissions on his record, and his fight with Kampmann showed some great, high level sub defense. I’m not saying that he’s better than Diaz, but his past, combined with the wrestling training he’s getting at Jackson’s makes me think that he’ll be able to hold his own on the ground.
I’m not saying that Carlos WILL win, but I think he has a pretty good shot.
Shaun32887 - January 17, 2012
Daley is a better striker than Carlos.
Carlos is a better fighter than Daley, but Daley is the better striker.
RolloTomasi - January 17, 2012
I won't argue too hard against that
and I’ll agree wholeheartedly on just his hands, but I think that Carlos’ more well rounded striking game, as well as his ability to hold his own on the ground (and thus not fear the takedown as much) makes him the better overall striker in my book.
Not that he’s any slouch either, but BJ was outstriking Diaz before he gassed. I’m just making the piont that as effective as Diaz’ striking is, there are ways to beat it.
Shaun32887 - January 17, 2012
Based on KO's
Daley = 20 KO wins
Condit = 13 KO wins
RolloTomasi - January 17, 2012
That's still a lot of KO's
menckenstein - January 17, 2012
and KO is Daley's only means of finishing
Carlos isn’t as reliant on them because his submission game is pretty slick. Doesn’t mean that he’s a worse striker; he just has more options.
Shaun32887 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Condit might be the more technical striker
But he doesn’t have Daley’s power, which is what you need to put a Diaz on his back
Stiff Jab - January 17, 2012
no way, daley has clearly the better technical muay thai
feiwongfu - January 17, 2012
I said might
Daley is highly technical for the style of fighter he is, which is brawler and power puncher, but that style is inherently not really all that tightened up.
People confuse being “better technically” with being “better” a lot.
Stiff Jab - January 17, 2012
I'm not sure I understand you
A brawler is, at least in my definition, a not very technical fighter, and regarding Daley I disagree with that, he has some clean technical muay thai and I believe him to be more technical than Daley, although Condit improved a lot in the last years
feiwongfu - January 17, 2012
Brawlers can be technical
Watch an old George Foreman fight. The man knew what he was doing, but he was a brawler. Its someone who stays aggressive and likes to throw power shots.
Stiff Jab - January 17, 2012
I guess it's a question of definition
nonetheless I wouldn’t classify Daley as a brawler, when his opponents are able to pressure him like Diaz could, he somewhat falls into brawler mode, but so do most people, if not I feel Daley to be very methodical with his striking and very technical sound, watch Daley vs Kampman, I think that fight displays it very well
feiwongfu - January 17, 2012
i never hesitate
to put a diaz on his back.
gspmademegay - January 17, 2012
Agreed Rollo, Condit wouldn’t go one round with Daley under boxing, muay thai or K1 rules. The way Diaz beat Daley earned him a life time of credits with me.
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
So you’re not surprised at whatever may happen? Come on Shaun, nail your colours to that mast man!
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
Carlos was the first fighter I ever got attached to in this sport
I learned about mma through watching him in WEC and listening to Frank Mir. I’ll always root for him and pick him to win every fight. I’m just acknowledging that it will be a good close fight
Shaun32887 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
just saying cerrone had jackson in his corner to
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
fair point
Shaun32887 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Please god
I hope Condit destroys the Diaz hype train. Either way, GSP is going to truck the winner.
Fear the RUSH - January 17, 2012
Hype train?
11 straight wins.
Not hype.
RolloTomasi - January 17, 2012
Thomas Denny, KJ Noons at WW, Cyborg, Penn at WW, and the Whitemare?
Ya, hype train.
Fear the RUSH - January 17, 2012
How about shut up with chirping the Penn win.
Denny, Noons, Cyborg, Whitemare, sure, not the strongest opposition, but there is absolutely no denying his skills. I’m a MASSIVE Condit fan and I think Diaz is going to slapbox Condit en route to a 50-45.
T.C. Engel - January 17, 2012
have to disagree with u there cap

gspmademegay - January 17, 2012
Of course A - Ramp is Celebrity in his country
feiwongfu - January 17, 2012
I think Diaz takes it
The Diaz brothers throw so many punches I think eventually Condit is going to get overwhelmed. Even if Nick goes down more than his brother, he recovers pretty quickly. The pure amount of offensive output should be enough to win him some 10-8 rounds late against almost anyone in the division who doesn’t have the wrestling skills to at least break up his rhythm (even if he does have some really mean sweeps).
Luckily Condit does have amazing heart and aggression, so we might see these guys stand in the middle of the cage and just slug it out until someone drops dead. Certainly the guy who starts to step back is the guy who is going to lose.
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
agreed. and recd.
gspmademegay - January 17, 2012
i really dont see condit backing up
He’s never been finished by strikes in his career (KO or TKO) while Nick has and we’be seen Nick get dropped a lot while I don’t remember the last time condit was. Condit takes this imo 3rd round TKO
benten20 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
At the same time Condit has never faced someone with the pure offensive output of Diaz
Also, I’m pretty sure Rory Mac dropped Condit.
I just don’t see Condit finishing Diaz. I think he could win a decision, but if someone gets stopped I think it’s Condit. There is just something insane about a guy throwing hundreds of punches and landing so many of them cleanly.
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
Is that the voiceover dude from LOST promos?
