The drug tests for Strikeforce: Rockhold vs Jardine are back and a surprising name tested positive for PEDs: Muhammed Lawal. Of the 15 fighters tested, only Lawal's came back positive. The steroid of choice? Drostanolone, an expensive 'designer' anabolic steroid which has unique qualities. Drostanolone is part of the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) family and has various medical uses, mainly for lowering cholesterol and in chemotherapy. One of the most unique qualities is that it allows an athlete to add strength without adding mass, which makes it a perfect steroid for athletes in sports that require weight cutting.
Lawal faced Lorenz Larkin in a fight that many considered to be a jump off for another shot at the Strikeforce light heavyweight title. He stopped the fight in the second round by TKO. The fight was already surrounded by controversy as referee Kim Winslow was late to stop Lawal's assault on Larkin, causing the fighter from Riverside, California to take a lot of unnecessary damage.
Lawal has denied that he has taken any steroids and it is expected that he'll challenge the drug test in an appeal. He has previously passed tests from both the USADA and WADA when wrestling internationally.
Full list of fighters tested after the jump...
SBN coverage of Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Jardine

The following athletes were tested: Luke Rockhold, Keith Jardine, Robbie Lawler, Muhammed Lawal, Tyron Woodley, Tarec Saffiedine, Tyler Stinson, Nah-Shon Burrell, James Terry, Gian Villante, Trevor Smith, Ricky Legere, Chris Spang, Estevan Payan and Alonzo Martinez.

I said this in another post but: good!
I hate that guys condescending “fans don’t like me because they don’t understand mma” bs attitude.

Just got this link on twitter from strike force tweet
http://www.strikeforce.com/news/2012/01/zuffa-announces-pre-contract-screening-policy-for-performance-enhancing-drugs/
Looks like they are testing for peds before signing fighters … Guess its a small start
RECE ROCK - January 17, 2012 via mobile
Not sure what they'll accomplish with that
Maybe nobodies from small time clubs without PED vendor connections will be more likely to avoid them, which will lower use amongst prelim fighters.
menckenstein - January 17, 2012
More testing can only be good
James Brady - January 17, 2012
it’s more a pr move than anything else, but this will quell some issue that people have about fighters pumping themselves full of steroids to get good enough to fight in the ufc, then going clean after getting in the ufc, with all the muscles/other benefits they got from using. It will be especially helpful in that regard to fighters who have been fighting in places without drug testing.

Or he's watching his cholesterol
Someone should’ve told him about cheerios and lipitor
menckenstein - January 17, 2012
He did say Strikeforce was a dying cancer patient.
So the Drostanolone was probably prescription.

Just because there are medical benefits to steroids. At this point I’m more surprised that 14 people tested clean.

I think that all athletes are taking some sort of a drug
be it weed, steroids, or hgh. I’m surprised when no one tests positive.
Matthew Roth - January 17, 2012
Oh, I'm not,
just b/c the Athletic Commision “tests” are so easily beaten.
Guys out there beat full Olympic year round tests, so no-one should be caught by the fig-leaf that passes for drug-testing over at the NSAC.
jhf884 - January 17, 2012
caffeine
James Brady - January 17, 2012
Right now athletes have an option to take these types of drugs to compete. If steroids/peds are made legal, they will have to take them.
In over 35 years of lifting, running, swimming, and training in many different sports and martial arts, only twice have I had cortisone injections, and now would never have another one done.
I’ve had 5 surgeries for sports related injuries, including a crushed cheek bone, and shattered wrist, so it’s not as if I don’t push myself, but will never tell another athlete that they have to use a drug to compete.
( but the way- it’s possible that in my life I may have dabbled with just about any drug I could get my little paws on, so it’s not like i’m anti drug. just anti forcing others to use them)
uwcb - January 17, 2012
Just out of curiosity,
why the opposition to cortisone, and did you have direct injections or IM/IV systemic doses?
The American Ronin - January 18, 2012
There is no way to “regulate” steroid/PED use.
VirtualBalboa - January 17, 2012
Isn’t that exactly what they do with Henderson and his trt exemption?
Chris Hall - January 17, 2012 via Android app
It is regulated in so much as he is allowed to take a prescribed amount of HGH to combat a medical condition (low natural testosterone). Does that mean that a fighter using TRT would not use exotic or experimental PEDs in addition to that? Of course not. This isn’t to say with certainty that Henderson or Sonnen or anyone else claiming to use TRT for medical need is doing so because I can’t. But what I’m saying is that unless you legalize everything and open the playing field up to any and all pharmaceuticals, any other measure in terms of “regulating use” via allowed or approved steroid use is worthless.
To put this another way: To say “I want regulated and approved use of steroids for MMA fighters” is to say in more proper terms “I want a bunch of juiced up meatheads going crazy in a cage fight”.
VirtualBalboa - January 17, 2012
They can regulate steroids
They can raise the acceptable levels of testosterone, for one. You can take steroids, but you can’t come in above x level.
I’m all for faster injury recovery or less injuries like we were plagued with last year, and certain steroids can help in this situation.
KJ Gould - January 17, 2012
They already have acceptable levels of testosterone. They do nothing to actually prevent fighters from taking the sort of substances that exist. Upping that level and authorizating steroid use would also not prevent fighters from abusing steroids or using exotic, untestable PEDs. All it does is encourage and effectively mandate (because anyone who doesn’t use is DEFINITELY at a disadvantage under those circumstances) use of drugs in a manner that is not considered clinically acceptable.
VirtualBalboa - January 17, 2012
The acceptable levels were based on skiers at the winter olympics in the 1980's
Based on the average these athletes could achieve through training.
The advances in exercise science alone in the last 3 decades ought to constitute a re-testing of the levels that can be naturally achieved by high end performance athletes, and not using guys whose sport is to balance on two planks of wood while going down a snow bank.
KJ Gould - January 17, 2012
HGH isn’t prescribed for TRT. They give you something like androgel or in some cases test-prop.
nastyem - January 17, 2012
OK then. So he’s using androgel instead of HGH. Everything else there is true.
VirtualBalboa - January 17, 2012
Not really
They don’t test him when he’s not fighting (to my understanding anyway), so he could or might not be abusing it. Who knows?
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
Except TRT properly used isn’t performance enhancing…

Its not as bad as I thought his comments its pretty much just getting into it with fans who think Ronda is ducking Cyborg, from what I can see most of his comments about roids are just sticking up for Ronda wuith cyborg, Man does he get into it with fans alot though.
Shocbomb - January 17, 2012
Doesn’t stuff like this, the Team Quest TRT exemptions, and the Sherk positive pose a bit of a problem for the theory that athletic commission tests are only an IQ test that anyone with half a brain can pass?
Jahbulon - January 17, 2012
depends on what they are using to clean out there urine, my favorite substance for urine cleaning was golden seal tea from GNC, it got my urine clean within hours after drinking it. I never ounce got popped on a drug test from the state or at my job while using it.
Shocbomb - January 17, 2012
When a friend of mine joined the military

Chris Hall - January 17, 2012 via Android app

Cory Braiterman - January 17, 2012
It’s not surprising that in a world where everyone is using, the guy who gets caught is someone who is smart, educated, well compensated, at a top camp and has an elite amateur wrestling background? Is beating a drug test a random event where every fighter has an equal chance to get caught, despite their resources?

Damn...
I wonder if anyone would ever take up Bas’s advice and turn their supplement/drink in and say, “this is what I took. I was told it didn’t have (insert PED), it turns out it did.”
Do you people think it would change your perception of them getting busted? Or is it a black and white issue?
butt.bar.bandit - January 17, 2012
The problem is that
professional atheletes are responsible for what they ingest, including supplements.
They need to either do their own homework about what they put into their body, or hire a reputable nutritionist to make sure they don’t take something banned.
That said, it probably would help w/ the PR battle.
jhf884 - January 17, 2012

My bad.
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
No, it’ll be changed to a no-contest.
Horselover Fat - January 17, 2012
I see you’re still having trouble with the concept of time. Josh Barnett didn’t have his win overturned because the NSAC couldn’t overturn wins in 2002. They changed the rule in 2005, which happens to be before Nick Diaz tested positive for weed.
Phildo - January 17, 2012
Concept of time?
What the fuck is that?
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
that things change over time. You can’t comprehend that the NSAC didn’t also build a time machine when they changed the rule in 2005 that gave them the power to overturn decisions for drug tests. That’s why your hero nick diaz has a no contest on his record because of a drug test in 2007, while Barnett, Sylvia, etc still have their wins from when they tested positive before 2005. The lack of time machine means those results have to stand while future positive tests will be overturned.
Phildo - January 17, 2012
I am confused...
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
Nevada couldn’t overturn fight results for drug tests before 2005. So Josh Barnett, Tim Sylvia, and everyone else who won a fight in Nevada before 2005 then tested positive for anything get to keep their win.
After December 2005, people that win fights in nevada, like Nick Diaz, Cole Province, Thiago Silva, Karo Parisyan and then fail a drug test have had their results overturned to a No Contest/Decision. This can happen to King Mo.
Note that California is a different state, and they didn’t start overturning decisions until later.
Phildo - January 17, 2012
I still don't get it
discoandherpes - January 18, 2012
Yes!
insamniac - January 18, 2012
I’m just gonna take this time to say they could have made the rule retroactive, if they wanted to.
Now, back to your argument with the gift that keeps on giving…
The Lethal Haze - January 17, 2012
Isn’t that against the constitution?
Phildo - January 17, 2012
Well, it does outlaw it plainly in the Constitution
But lets not act like that matters all that much.
The Google chache of the Wikipedia page this is found on… fuck SOPA/PIPA
I realize the above is regarding federal guidelines, but the AC could have done this and no one (who is in a position to do anything about it) would have given a fuck- the same way no one cares when a AC proves to be bumbling incompetent fools.
This is a whole paper bitching about the unfairness of retroactive laws. All sorts of sex offender laws are made retroactive. It might be constitutionally prohibited, but it happens.
The Lethal Haze - January 18, 2012
Yea, I was just kidding, but retroactively changing year old fights seems pointless to me. They served the punishment that was available at the time, and things changed going forward.

Tats16 - January 17, 2012
There was no chance of it before.
Worldisart - January 17, 2012
This shit is getting rediculous....
rscott94 - January 17, 2012 via mobile
must get twitter to see page slam queen moe
the jewish conquistador - January 17, 2012
Jackson calling him queen Mo is one thing, you entirely another.
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
thats too bad
Mo seems like a good guy in the sport, does lots of media coverage…and he probably didnt need to roid up to beat the Lorenz Larkins of the world
Ben Bauman - January 17, 2012
I think he’s a good guy. Just that some fans get their tampons in a twist when a fighter lets them know they’re not flawless authorities on the sport. Anyone who thinks MMA and PED’s don’t go hand in hand is on another planet.
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
Wow, I'm really shocked.
I never thought Mo would get busted for banned substances. Strikeforce, who are struggling for fighters as it is, has had a rough start to 2012. Tow of their biggest names are out for the rest of the year!
@KatanaClothing - January 17, 2012
With all the shit this dude talks?
Wow.
Rob Young - January 17, 2012
Sometimes the guys that talk the most
end up being the biggest offenders.
pud333 - January 17, 2012
man, whatever
Earl Montclair - January 17, 2012

Earl Montclair - January 17, 2012

Earl Montclair - January 17, 2012

James Brady - January 17, 2012
Damn son, thats a hoe move.
Oh well, how bout those Niners??!!
DL2kold - January 17, 2012
Not good.
sklart - January 17, 2012
I'm going to give Mo the benifit of the doubt...
…and wait to see how this turns out. Say it ain’t so, mo?
bigstupidsmile - January 17, 2012
So all the people saying he is a student of the game were definitely right.
StevenGiles - January 17, 2012
Sweet that makes Mousasi’s loss that less significant. Yay for steroids!
terzergoss - January 17, 2012
no it doesnt
Earl Montclair - January 17, 2012
yes it does
terzergoss - January 17, 2012
no it doesnt
T.C. Engel - January 17, 2012
Yeah it does, homie.
MicahtheCynic - January 17, 2012
Considering he won that fight from the bottom.
I would say yes. Yes it does.
nickrodamous - January 17, 2012
wait wasnt Mo on top.
dandeman - January 17, 2012
Yeah
and he was on top and laid there did nothing. I forget who the ref was but I don’t know why they didn’t stand it up. I do remember how Mo’s face loooked after the fight Mousasi beat him up from the bottom and swelled his eye shut.
nickrodamous - January 17, 2012
If it is any consolation if the fight happened in Brazil, I bet Big Dan Mirgliatta would have stood them up.
But Mo got beat up from the guy he was laying on. That in it of itself was too funny, especially post fight when you compared their faces.
dandeman - January 17, 2012
Lets judge fights on facial damage and give Rumble the W over Belfort.
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
While I realize you are trying to be a douche to dandeman
You don’t have to “judge” fights that were ended by one of the fighters. Maybe that escapes you.
The Lethal Haze - January 17, 2012
of course it does, we’re using internet rules here man. Every negative test is because fighters know how to cycle, every positive test means everyone has been using steroids since they were 10. Everyone that has muscles uses steroids, and those who get caught are just idiots who somehow forgot how to cycle after getting away with it thousands of times before.
Phildo - January 17, 2012
not particulary
You cant necessarily assume he’s been using. He’s tested clean before in every other fight.
Ricardo Arguello - January 17, 2012
I can assume anything i want once steroids are on the table. Thats the consequences of playing the game.
terzergoss - January 17, 2012
You can assume anything you want regardless
it doesn’t make you correct in the slightest.
Earl Montclair - January 17, 2012
Well thats what happens when your a cheater. People assume wrong things about you. Poor King Mo.
terzergoss - January 17, 2012
Y’know, just for the record, but there is a tiny chance that there is a good reason for this positive test. Probably not, & I know it’s unlike the internet to wait before absolutely crucifying a man but there you go.
forkboy - January 17, 2012
Did the AC test for all his other fights Only 1 was in Cali. Other were in OH, TX, TN, KS.
Tim Burke - January 17, 2012
KS bout was M-1
My bad.
Tim Burke - January 17, 2012
Im not sure
But I dont see why not.
Ricardo Arguello - January 17, 2012
I'm starting to wonder...
how many fighters are using steroids because this is getting ridiculous!!!
waterade - January 17, 2012
Dana paid him to do it to kill Strikeforce!
av1o3 - January 17, 2012
I really hope Paul Harris comes back clean
Garbanzo - January 17, 2012

Garbanzo - January 17, 2012
third time's a charm?
Dave Strummer - January 17, 2012
Even if he tested positive
I’m pretty sure his body naturally has elevated test levels any ways, he’s a genetic freak
F.U.B.A.R - January 17, 2012

F.U.B.A.R - January 17, 2012

Garbanzo - January 17, 2012
Garbanzo - January 17, 2012
Another reason for me to hate King Mo
TDITZ - January 17, 2012
Additionally to being racist?
feiwongfu - January 17, 2012
Why hate a guy you’ve never met? Or did you just see the general theme of the comments and decide to put the boot in too?
sheikybaby - January 17, 2012
yeah pretty much, I'm in a bad mood today
also, is it just me or do have black fighters a lot more shit to take?
feiwongfu - January 17, 2012
Apparently canned oxygen
is a gate drug.
LRaunThaDamaja - January 17, 2012
*Gateway
LRaunThaDamaja - January 17, 2012
Oxygen in a can
dandeman - January 17, 2012
Mo isn’t elite mma material anywys… He’d be top 15 in ufc
The Don Mega - January 17, 2012 via mobile
I don't see how top 15 in the ufc isn't "elite mma material"
James Brady - January 17, 2012
Well this just sucks.
Machiel Van - January 17, 2012
didn't expect to see that when I got back from the Docs
MaZZacare - January 17, 2012
They really need to shut down this bullshit drug testing! Is it just a coincidence that every fighter that tests positive denies all usage and wants to appeal the test? Why don’t we just believe the fighters (Sherk & Barnett & Sonnen), they have a perfectly believable explanation, and they were victims, not perpetrators. I bet the next fighter that tests positive will also deny deny deny, and try do discredit the testing facility.
latheman - January 17, 2012
So...Lorenz Larkin's loss will be turned into a No Contest, right? I mean it's only fair
Cyborg’s win became an NC…so should Mo’s
Chris Groves - January 17, 2012
Does Forrest Lynn have like an inside scoop?
Robust23 - January 17, 2012
Roger vs Larkin, Mousasi v Feijao. Winner fights for the belt. Move on.
memitim - January 17, 2012 via mobile
OSP vs. Larkin
Mouse Saucy vs. Feijao for the belt.
discoandherpes - January 17, 2012
*boosh*

there goes any sort of credibility he had
elmojo - January 17, 2012
I logged in to say....
YES!!!
This is what he gets for his whole “Fuck the fans” attitude.
purplehazelett - January 17, 2012
Never been a fan of "King" Mo...
I guess he wont be making that paper after all lol
Chin Check - January 17, 2012
Damn was hoping to see Mo in the UFC soon.
J_Maddux - January 17, 2012
Lawal look so much bigger during his last fight, I was talking about it with my friend after the fight how huge his back looked. Anyone have any comparison pics?
Kefka - January 17, 2012
It’s weird that you noticed how big he got by taking a drug that adds strength but not mass.
Phildo - January 17, 2012
His back looked huge, you thought he looked the same?
Kefka - January 19, 2012
funny how things change.....
when cyborg tested positive it was all:“f..k cyborg”,“you look like a dude” “steroids destroy our sport”.
When i’st Mo it’s all:“we’re still with you Mo” “lets leagalize steroids”
WADA standards for testing now!
somean - January 18, 2012
Its simple really...
Cyborg isnt attractive and she beat their WMMA wet dream to a pulp so it was more gratifying to vilify her.
Chin Check - January 18, 2012
