An injury to Mark Munoz has completely remade the top of the UFC on Fox 2 card, which takes place on January 28th in Chicago, IL. Munoz was originally scheduled to face Chael Sonnen and Michael Bisping was scheduled to face Demian Maia, but everything got flip-turned upside down. Sonnen will now face Bisping in a number one contenders matchup, and Maia will now meet undefeated uber-prospect Chris Weidman. And you've got Rashad Evans vs. Phil Davis still in the main event. How do you like that, Chicago? Here's the revised and current card (undercard after the jump):
Jan 28th, live on Fox from Chicago, IL:
Main Card:

This card gives me a Batgasm.
Earl Montclair - January 18, 2012
Careful what you ask for.
NickRingp4pGOAT - January 19, 2012
With all the hoopla over Sonnen/Bisping I almost forgot about Evans/Davis was the headliner
Ricardo Arguello - January 18, 2012
This would actually be a good selling PPV
Stacked card.
SSreporters - January 18, 2012
Come on man
You shouldn’t be saying things like that. Please revise your comment with something negative about the card and the fighters on it.

Nik Lentz is on this card
It sucks.
SSreporters - January 18, 2012

Joben - January 18, 2012
Nik Lentz is on every other card.
He uses “Carnie” powers to beat the system.
NickRingp4pGOAT - January 19, 2012
I've noticed that too.
Chances are, Lentz is fighting.
Body Triangle - January 19, 2012
Whenever I hear the name George Roop.....
….I think George Poop. Therefore this card is a pile of crap.

Do you guys actually think they’ll make it to the UFC? I mean, they can’t really know what it’s like to be hit hard yet, so there is that….and, are they dominating in wrestling?
I would be surprised if either of those kids went further than a stint on the ultimate fighter…
Luke Nelson - January 18, 2012
They're little kids...
Unless that’s sarcasm and I failed to see…
juanchoD - January 18, 2012
No
Just him looking at the little chance they actually have to be gifted athletes that can even make it into the UFC.
I’ve known guys that wrestled since childhood, and they can get crushed by gifted athletes with 2 years experience. It’s a fact of life, and the guys in the UFC are the kind of guys like the latter that I mentioned, but with more experience.

Andy Anderson - January 19, 2012
If they renewed the contract this year, they could renew it again. It’s not like it really made any sense this time around.
Machiel Van - January 19, 2012
they had a gate of about $68,000 for Rockhold vs Jardine….
Andy Anderson - January 19, 2012
Yeah, but Barnett vs Kharitonov also had an abysmal gate and a much, much larger payroll, and that was before the contract was renewed. It’s like I said: it made no sense this year but they still renewed it, so it could happen again. I was positive Strikeforce would be scrapped, so now I’ve accepted that decisions regarding Strikeforce have no reason to them whatsoever, or so it seems.

Rashad’s got great wrestling and is the much superior striker. I’d be shocked as shit if Davis actually gets him down and holds him there for 5 rounds.
kreally - January 18, 2012
Rashad
Doesn’t have really outstanding takedown defense (62% on FightMetric); Tito took him down in both of their fights, and Davis is a better wrestler at this point than Tito. Even if Davis gets him down, I think he’ll be able to scramble back up, though.

Ppv cut?
Anyone have a idea of how much Rashad and others will be getting due to this not being a Ppv card? Cain stated for the fox event he was compensated like it was a Ppv card. Something to ponder.
evenflow10 - January 18, 2012 via mobile
also, dat sponsor money
Rob Young - January 18, 2012
That’s none of our business.
Kenya_MMA - January 18, 2012
I’d say Cain was compensated in terms of PPV numbers because he was the belt holder. My guess is that purses would be close to the same, free event or not for these fighters.
ThatsHowIRoll - January 18, 2012
He's talkin bout that PPV cheese
halitosis - January 18, 2012 via mobile
Yep and I fully expect the purses to be comparable to a PPV event,
But my point was aimed at the subject ‘PPV cut’ which I don’t think any of these fighters would be getting even if it was a PPV event and refered to Velasquez, who as the Champ would have received a PPV cut and was compensated for that.
ThatsHowIRoll - January 18, 2012
Oh okay

This card is better than the Super Bowl Card...
A side from Diaz vs Condit…..I would much rather watch this card than the Super Bowl card. The tickets cost $750 for a card that isn’t as good as this one. Vegas will be a blast as usual but …Come on man!
Taiter - January 18, 2012
which is why I will not be in Vegas for Super Bowl weekend this year.
What a lame card for the ticket prices.
Rob Young - January 18, 2012
Our tickets went from $1250 to $750......
…….when GSP got hurt. At least we got $500 back but they won’t refund the entire ticket price(stuck with them). All 3 cards I went to see in vegas got destroyed by injuries and suspensions ( Thaigo Silva steroids). The memorial day card was gonna be one of the best of the year……and then…..uggghhhhhhhhhhh
Taiter - January 18, 2012
You're lucky, my $500 UFC 137 ticket was the same price after he got hurt.
Rob Young - January 18, 2012

Dave Strummer - January 18, 2012

Condit- Diaz will be…..but the rest of the card isn’t up to snuff. Kos as the co-main event is a joke.

but it doesn’t mean anything. He still won the fight.
Chad Raynard - January 19, 2012
And I hate that. The fighter that did the most damage and came the closest to finishing the fight should win the fight. Winning on points is stupid.
Shnak - January 19, 2012
Lets get rid of the clock and judges too while we're at it.
In all seriousness, how do you judge damage in an MMA fight? Do you want them to go to the judges at the end of a fight for a check up and have them write notes on how hurt they are?
Should Nik Lentz have beaten Mark Bocek despite the fact he had about one minute of offense as opposed to Bocek’s fourteen?
We should judge a fight on total offense. If you want to argue that Rampage of Silva deserved a 10-8 and the judges aren’t properly using the current system, go ahead. But getting rid of the entire system just to justify you thinking someone else one is a bit silly.
discoandherpes - January 19, 2012
Yep, no clock, no judging. Let’s see who’s the better fighter and let them fight until someone’s knocked out or submitted.
Besides, anyone with half a functionning brain knows that Silva did a lot more damage to Evans in that fight. Silva was extremely close to having Evans waking up in trainyards while Evans only laid on Silva for the better part of the first two rounds. Had Tan Dan reffed that fight, it would’ve been stood up quite a few times.
Shnak - January 19, 2012
I wish Sonnen/Bisping was the main event.
Two more rounds of Bisping getting his head pounded into the mat sounds amazing!
kreally - January 18, 2012
Sick fucking card
Im content
warren305 - January 18, 2012 via mobile
Cant wait for this card
Shad is going to absolutely run through Davis and show everyone why he is a legit chance to put a stop to bones and start his own quest for pvp greatness!!!
YEAR OF THE SHAD!!!
Jarrydmirri - January 18, 2012
Jon Jones would do nasty things to Rashad Evans
SSreporters - January 18, 2012
he already has
Rashad will get his revenge
Jarrydmirri - January 18, 2012
Through what? His vicious ground-and-pound that he hasn't shown in about 4 fights running?
Or his takedown of a man who is the best wrestler in MMA and has never been taken down in his career?
Or his dangerous bottom game and zero career submission attempts?
SSreporters - January 18, 2012
no idea
but he has been beating the best out there for a while and his only loss is against machida with the worst game plan ever put in place. He’ll find a way… I hope
Jarrydmirri - January 18, 2012
Jon Jones beat the best at LHW in a calendar year
And finished all of them. Rashad faded and should’ve been knocked out in both the Thiago Silva and Rampage fight.
SSreporters - January 18, 2012
But he wasnt and he won
Anyway this will be a different Rashad we see against Davis one that stands a chance against Jones. Jones is great I know and I give him a pretty big edge but if he is going to beat Shad he will have to put him to sleep he isnt going to fold like page and shogun did, and I just dont see that happening Rashad has too much heart
Jarrydmirri - January 18, 2012
The only definitive edge Evans has is striking
And that is mostly predicated on power, as Jones has the more diverse striking abilities.
Otherwise Jones has better submissions, better top-control, and clearly better striking defense.
But the best part about MMA is “you never know”, maybe Rashad unleashes the Triple Decker Pecker Wrecker.
SSreporters - January 18, 2012
Haha that would be badass
I’ll admit when i saw Jones drop Machida unconscious like he did I didnt think anyone would ever beat him, but if you dont think the other guy has a shot then there’s not much point in watching. So im just going to delude myself into thinking my fav fighter has a hmmm slight chance of winning
Jarrydmirri - January 18, 2012
I think Rashad did have a legit chance of stopping Jones if they fought after the Shogun fight...
But after his streak of wins the guy seems to have continued to improve and become even more confident. Wishful thinking for Rashad from me too but don’t see it happening.
ThatsHowIRoll - January 18, 2012
He will have to put him to sleep?
He put Rampage to sleep and make Shogun tap from strikes. Neither one “folded” like you claim. They just got their asses kicked.
Joben - January 19, 2012
Maybe its just me, if there’s one thing the entire Jones-Rashad fiasco has accomplished it’s overhype Rashad and make people believe he’s an actual threat to Jones..he in my opinion is the most overrated fighter at LHW
savik - January 18, 2012
HAHA Chael is fucking gold!
MMA_PITBULL - January 18, 2012
!
Earl Montclair - January 18, 2012
Rashad shouldn't have any problems
Davis is very one-dimensional and I believe Rashad is the faster fighter. Probably gets the KO within two rounds
I'vegotthepower - January 18, 2012
Bisping being fed to Sonnen
It’s like Xmas all over again!!!!!
SUmonkey - January 18, 2012
If Rashad comes out with the same aggression and offense he did in the Tito fight
I think he is going to win. Granted it was against Tito Ortiz, but he stopped him in a fashion that was previously done by Liddell.
discoandherpes - January 18, 2012
anyone else?
Hoping Dunham smashes Nick Lentz into pieces….God that guy is ugly
Sonnens Political Adviser - January 19, 2012 via mobile
I just expect a 1,2 combo! 1,2 combo! 1,2 combo! 1,2 combo! before Lentz grinds on him. It’s an easy fight to see play out if you think about it, IMO.
Dustin Luff - January 19, 2012
Remember this little quote:
milliondollardreams - January 19, 2012
On;y good thing about sonnen vs bisping
One of them will lose and the other gets murdered by silva.
Davis can sub rashad i’m convinced. I hope he works his striking def and off more though.
Weidman is great, but maia is due for a sub.
Also WAR OLIVE!!!!
cager - January 19, 2012

cager - January 19, 2012

Stiff Jab - January 19, 2012
My highlights from the show will be...
Rashad proving why he should be getting the next title shot
Bisping telling the US to bloody well be quiet, will you?
Demian Maia subbing someone
Another ‘well Nik Lentz has somehow done it again’ discussion on BE Radio
Is Mike Russo still looking like he did vs todd duffee?
Couple of guys I’ve heard but never watched like Beltran vs Johnson, Cub Swanson, Charles Oliviera, Michael Johnson
Looking forward to it.
UK MMA MAN - January 19, 2012
I don’t see Maia subbing Weidman.
discoandherpes - January 19, 2012
If it hits the ground Weidman is tapping, Nuff said.
Chin Check - January 19, 2012
No way. Maia couldn’t sub Munoz who has close to zero BJJ skills, he’s not subbing Weidman who’s a purple belt quickly on the rise to black belt. Besides, Weidman is bigger and stronger than Maia. If anyone’s getting subbed in this fight, it’s Maia.
Shnak - January 19, 2012
That's just crazy.
Maybe Maia can’t submit Weidman, MAYBE. But to say that if anyone is getting sub’d, it’s Maia, is seriously ridiculous.
Chad Raynard - January 19, 2012
Weidman’s not WW-sized, and he’s been subbing people recently. Maia’s small, and hasn’t subbed anyone in like 3 years. Those are facts.
I’m not saying Weidman will sub Maia, I’m saying that there’s more chance of Weidman subbing him than Maia subbing him. Maia couldn’t sub Branch, Grove or Munoz, and from all accounts, Weidman has similar BJJ skills than all of them, and is a better than all of them save possibly for Munoz. But we’ll see.
Shnak - January 19, 2012
" If anyone’s getting subbed in this fight, it’s Maia."
“I’m not saying Weidman will sub Maia,”
So which is it?
Munoz is a former LHW NCAA D1 wrestler training with the Nog brothers so he definitely has a little bit more then “zero BJJ skills”.
Maia didnt submit them because he was too busy trying to evolve himself that he forgot what got him to the big show. IMO, He could sub anyone in the division, The real question is can he get them down?
Chin Check - January 19, 2012
Rashad can have the next title fight....
but then he has some serious problems…..
Jones
Hendo
Machida
Shogun
….yup those are serious problems for Suga
Taiter - January 19, 2012
It’s amazing that Evans is/was considered the clear #1 contender by so many people when he’s only faced one of these 4 guys, and lost badly to him. Evans is the LHW’s Hardy. His best win is Rampage, and that was with him coming off a 1.5 years layoff and fighting like it. Oh, and Rampage had Evans in trouble late in that fight too, and should’ve gotten the decision according to many.
Shnak - January 19, 2012
Okay, sure.
wonderfulspam - January 19, 2012
Seriously, look at Evans’s records. His best and most definite victory has been over Tito Ortiz in 2011. If that had happened in 2005, that’s a great victory… but in 2011, not so much. His victory over Griffin was good too, but let’s not act like he dominated him in any way… he was losing that fight until Griffin got careless. So kudos to Evans for winning that fight, but it’s not a very impressive, especially considering Griffin’s record ever since (revisionist theory at its best, I know). Whatever.
The fact remains that Evans doesn’t have a win over Machida or Shogun, the previous two champs. You’d think someone would need to win over a previous champ before being considered the #1 contender.
Shnak - January 19, 2012
Instead he has 3 victories over other former champs
In Ortiz, Griffin and Rampage but i guess that isnt good enough for some people… Geeezz i hate the guy but even i know hes the #1 contender and has been for the last couple years!
Chin Check - January 19, 2012
4 former champs...
Sorry Chuck lol
Chin Check - January 19, 2012
Revisionist theory at it's best indeed
If it was the rule that you had to beat everyone before you received a title shot then you’d have the bottleneck where nobody new gets a title shot so I don’t think that really plays out, a draw with ortiz when he was good shouldn’t really be sniffed at and yeah, beating all those former champs and watching someone you beat get a shot ahead of you seems a little unjust. Sides, what you talking about with machida and shogun, those guys got a 1-4 and 4-4 record recently ;-)
UK MMA MAN - January 19, 2012
Shogun vs. Suga please!!!
