Fresh off his UFC 141 win over Brock Lesnar, Alistair Overeem has released the latest episode of his superb online documentary series "The Reem."

If you haven't been watching The Reem, you are missing out. Easily the best MMA online video series, and a terrific look into the life of a fighter. Catch up with the full series online at TheReem.com.

The Reem Season 2 Episode 9 deals with the Lesnar fight and Overeem's final preparations in Las Vegas, starting, rather pointedly, with Overeem submitting a urine sample for his pre-fight drug test. The episode has a nice fighter's perspective look into those last minute tasks, with Overeem getting accustomed to the venue, taking part in the press conference, and weighing in for the fight.

Overeem has done a masterful job marketing himself over the past few years, and these videos are a huge part of that marketing. Overeem consistently comes across as a down to earth man, dedicated to his craft and confident in his abilities, and this video is no exception. It's also fascinating rewatching this footage now and hearing Reem talk about his plan to take Brock out in the first round, or round 2 at the most. The video wraps up with Overeem thanking fans for their support as he gets ready for what would be end up being the greatest win of his career.

Watch the complete episode in the full entry.

Star-divide

As always, the episode ends with the words "To be continued..." The next episode will presumably deal with the fight itself and the aftermath, and should be a good one.

"The Reem" still sucks

As a nickname, I mean. Even “The Demolition Man” was better, despite all the associations with embarrassingly bad Stallone-movies.

The documentary is quite outstanding though. I wonder, why they chose to film it all in B/W. Maybe because some of the material they shoot is crappy and they want to hide it a bit behind the more artsy look. Works well, because overall it is well done (except for stuff like the music being too prominent at times). I still often wish for color and I wish it would give us more of the behind the scenes-stuff. I could watch that for hours ;)

The Black and White unifies all the varying types of footage.

The Reem is a more clever nickname.

Color is overated.

Behind the scene stuff? Basically almost episode shows that, from SF to K-1 to UFC, not sure what else you want here.

Yes, I can see how “The Reem” which is just part of his name with the word “the” in front of it is more clever than The Demolition Man, which describes his fighting style perfectly.

Wait, what?!

Isn't 'The Reem' an Only Way Is Essex reference?

Like, “my traps are looking reem”.

Moar!!

I wanted to see them shoot the UFC-Fighter-Intros for example, like they showed for Strikeforce and so on. I just want more of it, not saying it doesn’t deliver much already. The documentary is great, as I said.

Also to add though Eldar Gross did say Zuffa wouldn’t allow him backstage footage on fight night on the day of the fight.

Damn UFC controlling everything to the eleventh degree

Color is overated?

Are you a canine?

I am so old that I see in black and white anyways.
ya, he Reemed him good.

Gotta admit, as far as gif-replies go, this is pretty outstanding. Unlike the movie…

I like the black and white. Maybe it’s cheap, but it’s also refreshing.

Raging Bull was black and white, and it’s one of the best films about combat sports ever made. Not that Overeem’s documentary aspires to that level of greatness, but I don’t mind it if they borrow the monotone palette. (B/W has signified “dark and gritty” basically since the invention of color film.)

i prefer 'The Demolition Man',

but i like ‘The Reem’. and he’s the shit.

Yeah B/W focuses things visually and gives the series a unified look. It’s a really cheap way of introducing fake art direction when you’re filming in bland random gyms, hotels etc

was meant as a reply to KGNLuc

That’s what I guessed. And I know it’s probably a clever thing to do. Personally I’d rather deal with all the different sources and the patchwork-look that comes with it and have color. But I guess they’re doing the right thing.

You should go watch Eldar Gross’ Muay Thai documentary (Yes it is in colour!)

Jesus he already won the fight, and now he’s going to make a whole video about it? This shit’s in the past. Why can’t he just accept a win and keep his mouth shut.

the only way to celebrate a win

is to live off those seconds for the rest of your life. It’s called fame

Demo man might be a pile of fantastic high budget 90s dung

but boy it was great. No high budget release of today can compare to the vicious fun in those action films. Everything today is neutered. You have to compare it to the high budget bad of today. Do Michael Bay films with the casts of unentertaining pretty people have anything on 80s or 90s action? No way.

Damn. I am reply failing today like a mutha.

Watching the promo highlights for Brock/Alistair is amusing now

considering how the fight turned out.

I thoroughly enjoy this series. Keep ’em coming.

as he gets ready for what would be end up being the greatest win of his career.

Why is it the greatest win of his career. That seems like kind of an arbitrary declaration. And its something I doubt Alistair would agree with. I’m sure winning the K1 GP was a bigger win for him…smashing Badr Hari as he mentioned before was also a great moment for him

It leads to a massive fight against dos Santos. And had he loss, it would have really crushed his UFC career for the time being. If he beats JDS, that will be the new greatest win, but that’s how it goes – Reem is in his prime right now, and he is consistently one-upping himself.

As for the GP win – as much as I want to credit that, I think had he made the finals and lost to, like, Schilt, it wouldn’t have had a massive impact on his career trajectory, whereas a loss here would have. Plus, I still don’t think he’s ever been paid for that GP win, which has to take some of the shine off for him.

Badr is a good one, and I’d put that a close 2nd to Brock, but if you flipped those 2, I wouldn’t argue much.

Overeem is nonchalant when he speaks about how he’s going to defeat his opponents, its awesome.

Portishead playing on the video

I like it, I like it a lot
