Miguel Torres Vs. Michael McDonald Booked For UFC 145

Miguel Torres returns to action at UFC 145 against Michael McDonald.

Miguel Torres returns to action at UFC 145 against Michael McDonald.

The UFC announced an intriguing fight in the bantamweight division Friday as former WEC 135-pound champion Miguel Torres and rising prospect Michael McDonald have verbally agreed to battle at April's UFC 145 in Atlanta, GA.

Torres (39-4) famously was released from the organization in December following an unfortunate joke about rape on Twitter, but was rehired shortly thereafter. Up to that point, the 31-year-old was 2-1 in his UFC career following the WEC absorption with wins over Nick Pace and Antonio Banuelos.

The 21-year-old McDonald (14-1) won his seventh fight in a row with a 56-second KO victory over Alex Soto at UFC 139, his third Octagon victory. He's got 12 finishes in 14 career wins and hasn't lost in nearly three years.

After the UFC canceled their late-March return to Montreal, a majority of the bouts were shifted to the April 21st event, the UFC's first show in Atlanta since September 2008. 10 fights have been announced with both the main event and the co-main event potentially to be booked following the results of next Saturday's UFC On Fox 2.

I think it's too much too soon for McDonald

Then again

AIN’T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH

It's going to be interesting to see how this fight goes minute..by minute...

….by minute, by minute, by minute (I keep holdin’ on!).

I thought Miguel got cut.....

….but I “keep forgetting” he’s back

When McDonald was informed of this fight

He said “Yah Mo B There!”

40yr old virgin

remainders

McDonald empathizes with Michael Bolton in Office Space.

“Why should I have to change my name? He’s the one who sucks.”

Maybe it's not the singer

But the K-1 fighter I remember watching late at night on ESPN2!

So… Michael Macdonald’s Gonna Git Surprised?

That dude was a legit bad-ass.

Really fast and nasty fighter!

I'm excited for this matchup!

Torres and McDonald are gonna Yah mo burn that place to the ground!

At this point, I don't feel it's too much too soon for McDonald

McDonald has been steadily improving and is on a very good win streak. Torres is a very good fighter, but I don’t think he’s too much for McDonald at this time. It should be a great fight.

I agree

I think that it is a logical step up and I’m actually taking McDonald in this fight.

McDonald is at #12 on the consensus rankings, #11 Mizugaki is fighting Cariaso, #10 Ueda is in Bellator, #9 Brad Pickett is fighting Charlie Valencia(or Demacio Page, can’t remember which) #8 Miguel Torres seems like the logical next step up for him.

Not to mention that Torres hasn’t exactly been a destroyer of worlds as of late.

This is an awesome fight, and Torres is ugly.

Oh snap
Oh damn

One of my biggest fears is someone scuttling down the sidewalk at me like this in the dark.
Holy crap.

Now this… this is gonna be a fight.

LOVE that.

If this isn’t the co-main, I riot. What an awesome fucking fight.

Mayday all day.

I got McDonald by KO

Hopefully this card has Mir on it.

MIggy all day

What was your PLayground score?

I got 72.

80

Only missed the Shalorus fight.

Cool. Jon Jones is supposedly going to fight at UFC 145

So maybe we get Jones vs. Evans or Jones vs. Hendo at this card.

Didn't Dana already say Hendo wasn't getting the next shot?

And "Shad fighting at 145 assumes he gets passed Davis with no medical suspension.

Great fight. Would like to see Mayday pull this one out.

yay another UFC Torres bore-fest.

I was really hyped to see Torres fight Banuelos when I was at UFC 126 in Vegas, he was making his UFC debut and all that and I was hyping him up to all my friends as a guy to keep an eye on because he always goes to war.

That fight sucked. It really sucked a lot. His next UFC fights against Mighty Mouse and Nick Pace sucked just as much. It seems to me that Firas Zahabi took the fight out of Torres and convinced him that it was the only way he could win reliably. The only reason people still care about him now is because they were mad at Dana for cutting him due to a rape joke. They probably forget his last 3 fights and I don’t blame them, because those fights are thoroughly forgettable.

Miguel may as well be Jon Fitch in my book. He’s just as boring of a fighter these days.

Agreed on the Banuelos fight

….but the Mighty Mouse one was a fantastic back-and-forth grappling war, I thought. I do get the frustrations with Torres because his aggression levels now are way down since his WEC title run, but being knocked silly by Brian Bowles after getting too wild will do that to you.

Torres vs Mighty Mouse was a great fight.
Torres is going to need his rape whistle for this one

heyyyooooo

Dont make me whistle bro

Holy shit!

I think i called this! Tooting horns aside….

Torres could have easily taken the decision instead against Johnson (i thought he did) and fought Cruz (which i think he matches up with well style wise). So basically winner of this should be one fight away max from a shitle tot. I say give winners of Barao/jorgy and mcdonald/torres lay up matches if they win as to not kill off challengers and most impressive winner overall fights cruz/faber after the drawn out tuf nonsense. 135 gonna be just fine….

Agreed, I really think Torres is one of the worst styles match up for Cruz.
3rd, and I really want to see that fight eventually, but not by him going through McDonald.

Mayday all day, every day, all night. Day.
