oh man, this will be fun cards for free!
can’t wait
T.P. Grant - January 22, 2012
ANYBODY CAN BE BEAT!
discoandherpes - January 23, 2012
Like the peralta Mack rematch
@dustindelatorre - January 22, 2012
I am so excited for this card!
dedstrk316 - January 22, 2012
Funny thing.
Unless this Penner kid is some stud prospect with good takedown defense, Anthony Perosh is going to be on a three fight win streak in the UFC. Who’d of thunk.
Steve W - January 22, 2012 via mobile
This card needs to get here all ready
This and Edgar Henderson are teh two cards I am most hype for
ZOMG FLYWEIGHTS
MaZZacare - January 22, 2012
This is a crap card. In terms of name recognition at least.
TheLastEmpress - January 22, 2012
Maybe for you
But most people on this site are well aware of everyone on the main card. Alves vs Kampmann is a fantastic fight. Introducing Flyweights is very cool too. Haters gonna hate.
Tim Bernier - January 22, 2012
I’m familiar with them all, and I have seen them all fight ( other then Yasuhiro). But this card is going to have crap ratings because no casual fan (which is where the money is) is going to see a fighter they know and like. A lot of these are solid, exciting fighters but no one is going to see because they don’t have big fan bases.
TheLastEmpress - January 22, 2012
With 34 cards a year, these types of cards are going to become more common. Sometimes you have to sacrifice a rating to build fighters and divisions (like flyweight here).
Tim Burke - January 22, 2012
People know Court McGee
He’s more known than fighters who are ‘better’ than him. The promotional angle of ‘Flyweight tournament’ will draw eyeballs, and Alves and Kampmann are quite well known as well.
People said Shields vs Ellenberger was a sh!t card and it averages like 1.8 million viewers on Spike…while a f’cking title fight didn’t even hit 1 million on Versus.
It’s a very solid card.
Chris Groves - January 22, 2012
You put the word tournament in anything and people pay attention
discoandherpes - January 23, 2012
Considering how many cards the UFC is putting out this year, this is a solid free card. I feel that it is not looking at the whole picture coming to the conclusion to just look at ratings and what the casual fan will watch and won’t watch. Also, this card is free, and it is being used to build up the new UFC Flyweight Division. Court McGee is a TUF winner as well, so people do know him. Ratings drawing fighters are not abundant in the UFC and are generally reserved for PPV, but there are factors like that the card is free on a channel like FX, a TUF winner is on it, a former Title challenger is on it, and the introduction of the UFC Flyweight Divsion, and there are some things that make this card possibly have decent ratings.
chrisbboy82 - January 22, 2012
Agreed
As a PPV this would be death but for free it has the potential to really get people excited as there are quality matches. Plus, while I find him irritating as all hell, I think that if the hipster wins a few he is marketable and has potential to get good hype. And he will undoubtedly be sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon. http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l68itxWwPx1qzzhzdo1_500.jpg
DankNabbot - January 23, 2012
I found a reason to complain. At least.
UncleMax - January 22, 2012
Certainly in terms of the Australian fans that have had record sell outs at their last two events...
This card blows
ThatsHowIRoll - January 22, 2012
Sure does...
I wont be wasting my hard earned money attending this event, Its awesome as a free card but i find it rather insulting that they would give us fans Down Under the UK treatment after how much love we showed in the two previous years.
Until they bring back a decent PPV event i wont bother making the trip to attend these filler cards.
Chin Check - January 22, 2012
International cards historically do low PPV numbers.
The chances of you seeing a very high quality card in Australia is pretty low
Chris Hall - January 22, 2012
Compared to some of the other fighters that have been to Australia this card is balls
Earltron - January 23, 2012 via mobile
Im not asking for a Vegas or Toronto card...
Just something decent, Shit even the UFC on FX 2 card would have got me to shell out but a Fight Night main event and a bunch of Flyweights i couldnt give two shits about is not doing it for me at all.
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
Is this really an insult though? I mean, this isn’t a PPV card, it’s a free FX card. I just don’t see how an FX card should be within the same standard of a PPV or a UFC-numbered event.
chrisbboy82 - January 23, 2012
It isn’t priced like a free FX card.
rabrown - January 23, 2012
^^ My sentiments exactly
The quality of the card has reduced drastically but the ticket prices are the same and it would still cost me $1000+ to attend.
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
Wait...
are they making you pay for this in Australia?
Sugel Mendoza - January 23, 2012
No no no...
I meant to attend live, Sorry for the confusion.
Infact 110 and 127 were both free to air here on OneHD also.
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
Gotcha.
The “Australia’s getting the UK treatment” thing threw me off. On an unrelated note, how do you Aussies chase kangaroos out of your showers.
Sugel Mendoza - January 23, 2012
This card is the bee’s knees. Very solid Main Event, I’m digging the two flyweight fights. Prelims aren’t anything to write home about, but not bad either.
Tim Bernier - January 22, 2012
Kampmann/Alves
Has the potential for a lot of awesomeness.
Patrick Wyman - January 22, 2012
I said “name recognition wise”. None of the casual fans are going to want to see it because they don’t know any names on the card. It’s going to have crap ratings.
TheLastEmpress - January 22, 2012
Casual fans
fuck them
ZapRowsdower - January 22, 2012
Yeah and they also miss out on some of the best cards because the names arent “big enough”.
The casual fans can keep enjoying the big names(hell maybe we can get Lesnar back for them) and I’ll keep enjoying the good fights.
bigdmmafan - January 22, 2012
But you dont pay the bills and keep the lights on...
Casual fans do.
Chin Check - January 22, 2012
A lot of money comes from hardcore fans too.
Bolshevik - January 22, 2012
But the MAJORITY comes from Average Joe Bloggs...
Which is why fighters like Brock Lesnar are the biggest draws and MMA phenoms like Anderson, Aldo and Bones are pulling half his numbers on a good day
.
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
For once can't we just pretend affliction t-shirt douchebags don't exist and don't goddamn matter.
UncleMax - January 23, 2012
I happen to like Affliction t-shirts lol
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
Right there with you UncleMax
DankNabbot - January 23, 2012
Can I see your numbers?
Bolshevik - January 23, 2012
Its kinda common knowledge...
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
No, a lot of Sherdog posters agreeing on something doesn’t make it common knowledge. If you don’t have a breakdown of how much revenue comes from occasional PPV buyers vs. regular PPV buyers you have absolutely no argument and should never repeat that again.
Bolshevik - January 23, 2012
Regular PPV buys is like 200k, as evidenced by the Edgar/Maynard shows, and recently Aldo/Mendes. When it sells more than this, it’s because casual fans are interested in who’s fighting and buy the cards.
Shnak - January 24, 2012
You're spot on but . . . so what?
Not our problem. Go tell Dana about it
Mattyjudo - January 23, 2012 via Android app
Its a forum about MMA...
Thats the point of this thing lol
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
We should probably see how the ratings are after the event before we automatically deem that it’s going to have crap ratings.
chrisbboy82 - January 23, 2012
you mean
we should wait till after the fight to make a prediction? =P
DankNabbot - January 23, 2012
Wait a second
Isn’t the Strikeforce HWGP Finals on March 3rd? I wouldn’t be surprised if they move it.
Tim Bernier - January 22, 2012
This show airs on March 2nd here, it’s in Australia on the 3rd. No overlap.
Tim Burke - January 22, 2012
Ahh thanks for the correction. I didn’t realize it.
Tim Bernier - January 22, 2012
It's March 3 in Australia, March 2 in the Western Hemisphere
And it’s not the Strikeforce HWGP Final. Tate vs. Rousey is the main event.
MichaelDavidSmith - January 22, 2012
Thiago Alves is fighting nearly everyone on this card, including the main event.
He’s even fighting himself.
M.Sphinx - January 22, 2012
was just about to say that
too many Thiagos fighting
lmaginary Enemy - January 22, 2012
Court McGee is still in the UFC? I thought he would’ve lost a fight or two after the Ultimate Fighter and got cut..huh
savik - January 22, 2012
He won both fights since then.. I am surprised too.
Horselover Fat - January 22, 2012
...
3-0 in the ufc and he isn’t cut?
Sonnenmeister - January 22, 2012 via mobile
Well that’s interesting..I see him getting knocked out in this fight though
savik - January 22, 2012
unrelated.....but......
is that your fuckn eskimo name?
Analgesic - January 23, 2012
nah, its my last name
savik - January 23, 2012
Jon Dodson is fighting in the flyweight division (he said on his twitter)
So that’s probably what’s taking so long for him to get a fight
rscott94 - January 22, 2012 via mobile
The first ufc flyweight champ will not be a former ufc bantamweight. Nuff said
mattsterguy - January 22, 2012
Really
I have Joe B. winning this tournament fairly comfortably.
discoandherpes - January 23, 2012
Agreed
McCall’s could potentially upset the applecart but Joe’s surely gotta be a heavy favourite to take home the belt
Mattyjudo - January 23, 2012 via Android app
Word
McCall has a shot to beat MM and Joe B, back to back. I wouldn’t bet on it though.
discoandherpes - January 23, 2012
This is a fun main card.
Rather see Peralta get featured though. He’s a top 15 FW at worst and pushing top 10.
pdl - January 22, 2012
THANK YOU!
The fine contributers to the consensus rankings decided to f’ck him out of the ranking he earned when he beat Hiroyuki Takaya. Even after Peralta got into the UFC and won fights while Takaya still hadn’t fought since losing to Peralta….the rankers kept him below a man he defeated. I don’t care if it was a close decision or not…he won.
It’s the asianMMA bias.
Chris Groves - January 22, 2012
I was there live, Peralta pretty clearly won that fight.
I was rooting Takaya and knew Peralta won it pretty clearly. Dude has earned a top ranking and regardless of that fight he is worth paying attention to.
pdl - January 22, 2012
Thats how I feel
I just hate that his victory was sort of glossed over
Chris Groves - January 22, 2012
Hiroyuki Takaya is only alright.
discoandherpes - January 23, 2012
Philippou is actually a semi-dece prospect though.
T.C. Engel - January 22, 2012
Very underrated. Don’t think he gets nearly enough attention around here. I don’t think he’s got a shot in hell to make a title run, but he’s two wins away from a featured bout on an FX card. Has serious power and a passable ground game. I like his chances of sticking around for at least a 8 or 9 fight stint.
GogoPlatter - January 22, 2012
He's 32 years old.
Prospects are not 32 years old.
pdl - January 22, 2012
Can't wait to see McCall in the UFC!
That weight class is going to be entertaining!
mixedmartialmike - January 22, 2012
Steven "The Miller Hunter" Siler
DK_Monster - January 22, 2012
This is an excellent card, no reason to bitch
Even McGee is fighting someone who packs stupid power and can test the fact that he has a tendency to get cracked.
SSreporters - January 22, 2012
Did anyone see that terrible Jon Jones UFC on FOX promo?
SSreporters - January 22, 2012
The one where he is in the playground kicking his kid around on the swing?
I saw that and giggled. Certainly not worthy of an academy award or anything though.
However I’m glad to see them pushing JJ in the media. He is sooooo talented and could turn out to be a huge star and ppv draw.
beerdo - January 22, 2012
Yeah, that was pretty stupid
775assassin - January 22, 2012 via mobile
I was running on the treadmill.
Heard his voice and refused to look up lol glad I didn’t look up though.
nickrodamous - January 22, 2012
It's a shame we never got to see Alves vs. Rumble
SSreporters - January 22, 2012
Alves vs Daley was the real fight we missed.
But hey, now we finally get John Howard vs Rumble.
pdl - January 22, 2012
The truth hurts...
(as long as it’s not Vera)
dajulzta - January 22, 2012 via Android app
Ha ha ha :)
I genuinely laughed out loud at that. Nice one
Mattyjudo - January 23, 2012 via Android app
recced
That was good funny!
DankNabbot - January 23, 2012
I am hype. To see McCall in the UFC.
T.C. Engel - January 22, 2012
heck yes go go uncle creepy
Pyrgz Krum - January 23, 2012
WAR Thiago Saibot!
dajulzta - January 23, 2012 via Android app
toasty
UncleMax - January 23, 2012
Flawless Victory!
Chin Check - January 23, 2012
the only betting lines on this card that kmatter
are the odds of alves making weight
Randy Daytona - January 23, 2012 via Android app
He’s been pretty good about making weight lately. I think the whole Dolce Diet thing is actually working for him.
chrisbboy82 - January 23, 2012
Man can't wait to go to this card
Its my first since 110 and I know it’s no where near as good name value the fights should be good and it’s not often you get to see the 4 best dudes in a division fight on the one night!
Jarrydmirri - January 23, 2012 via mobile
I like this card
I like a majority of the fighters on this card, I think it will be another surprise in terms of excitement (as these under rated cards often are) and if casual fans tune in, even if they just DVR it, guys like Kampmann, Demetrius Johnson, Alves and McGee will sink the hook in deeper.
My DVR loves these free cards. I watch live, but I love going back and reliving some of the best moments in the fights. I rewatched Barry vs Morecraft a couple of times, I was so happy to see Barry defending mid-level submissions.
RobtWeaver - January 23, 2012
okay time to make picks even though we are no where near the card
i’m going with alves
Benavidez
johnson
Philippou is crushing court
rosa
i don’t know who perosh is fighting
miller
noke
Waldburger
peralta mack is fooling himself he was done before the clash of heads that put him out.
last match player 2 over player 1 lol
BIGNAT - January 23, 2012
i like what they've done with this card
put the newcomers in against established recognised talents
good stuff, can’t wait
Cunny - January 24, 2012
