Bobby Lashley may not have gotten a fair shake from the MMA community. He entered the fight game after a career in the WWE and was viewed by almost everyone as a 'poor man's Brock Lesnar'. It's how the WWE fans viewed him when he made his wrestling debut and it's how MMA viewed him as well. During his time in Strikeforce, he was criticized for taking easy fights, with most viewing him as an expensive can-crusher. He'd deflect this accusations by saying that he is new to the business and taking his time to develop. He'd then add that if people had a problem with how he's handling his career, he'd like to fight Fedor instead. Well, it looks like Bobby Lashley will get his wish.
After going 2-0 in 2011 on the regional circuit, Bobby Lashley is reportedly in talks to fight the 'Last Emperor'. Fighter's Only Magazine spoke with Lashley about this potential fight.
"I'm going to throw everything at him that I can. Of course, my wrestling's there, I don't give a damn what he's doing. I'd put my wrestling up there with almost anyone right now."
"I think that my wrestling would trump some of the things that he has. I know he's a great fighter, but if I fought him then of course I'm going to try and wrestle him down... If it was Dave [Bautista], I'm standing and banging with him. I've been doing a lot of boxing."
Lashley would obviously enter the fight as an underdog, though he may have more of a fighting chance than fans would give him credit for. His wrestling is solid for heavyweight and he has displayed some active ground and pound. The big question is: "has he developed in his year away from the public eye?"
For his sake, I hope so. Lashley is an incredibly likable fighter who has some name value. I just hope that M-1 isn't using him to try and still sell Fedor as the fighter he once was.

I wouldn't call Lashley a can.
Despite being pretty 1 dimensional and having questionable stamina, he’s still a physical beast and a strong grappler. Definitely a top 50 heavyweight IMO
ElliotMatheny - January 23, 2012
'50' and 'Heavyweight' doesn't narrow it down much

Fedor might be falling from grace but he has the experience and skill set to destroy lashley. This is disgusting to me. Shame on fedor for going this low and taking a fight like this. Did Roth just use the term "active ground and pound"
to describe something Bobby Lashley allegedly did in an MMA fight? We apparently have differing recollections of his career.
Dave Strummer - January 23, 2012
It's what tired him out. He's too active.
Matthew Roth - January 23, 2012
awesome
Dave Strummer - January 23, 2012
so good
Earl Montclair - January 23, 2012
That’s so true. Lashley doesn’t pace himself at all with his ground n pound. He has the same approach to all of his fights, and when it didn’t work against someone like Griggs, he lost. I expect Lashley to lose this one pretty handily.
chrisbboy82 - January 23, 2012
Wow...what the f'ck
I mean…we all knew this is what it would come down to…Fedor and Konrad are the only top 25ers not under the Zuffa umbrella.
So Fedor is left taking any random one-off fight that he can. These are the types of guys we can expect to see him up against until he either retires, wins enough to maybe get a straight contract with the UFC, or eventually loses again and loses the last bit of legitimacy that he has.
I would bet that the next person to beat him gets signed to the UFC…no matter who they are.

warren305 - January 23, 2012

Dave Strummer - January 23, 2012
anything can happen
but only way that happens is if Fedor doesn’t train and Lashley somehow doesn’t gas.
Tats16 - January 23, 2012
UFC contract
Just so he can be destroyed and Dana can have a sort of ‘Guys who beat Fedor can’t cut it in the UFC’ laugh…as well as a bit of a middle finger to M-1 and Co…’We’ll never sign Fedor, but we’ll sign anyone who beats him, fuck you’
Chris Groves - January 23, 2012
I still think Fedor could beat a lot of the UFC’s heavyweights, people act like Werdum, Bigfoot, and Hendo are cans for some reason.
Ak.Death - January 23, 2012
They are absolutely not cans, people that say that are ignorant
But it’s not a lie to say that Werdum looked terrible in his next fight after dethroning the all time great, and that Silva was trucked in his next fight after crushing Fedor.
Dan Henderson won his next fight in amazing fashion, an all out war…but it’s also not a lie to say that he usually fights at MW and LHW, so it’s not exactly the best look when the guy who was the #1 heavyweight in the world loses to him.
Chris Groves - January 23, 2012
Can't argue with your points
they’re all valid. I guess I just don’t get the people who are so quick to shit on Fedor, it’s kind of like with Jon Jones (weird comparison, I know) everyone seems to either love him or vehemently hate him. As a fan of mma, i just don’t see how anyone couldn’t respect him as a fighter. Most of the backlash can be chalked up to how M-1 handled his career, and I get that, but I will never understand all the fans who seem so happy to see him fail.
Ak.Death - January 23, 2012
He won't.

Andy Anderson - January 23, 2012
Have you started training yet?
Horselover Fat - January 23, 2012
Cardio yes
My weight is down to 160ish, and my first paycheck will come on January 31st and Financial Aid Refund comes 3 days later. So I will go in for the two free classes that week and put my first two months payment and sparring gear payment in by then. A Renzo Gracie BB teaches BJJ so I will start that once I get my new car too, to save on gas, probably by the end of Feburary I will be doing that as well, and trying my best not to go wrestling mode as I hear white belts with a wrestling background are often prone to. So MMA five to six days a week within 14 days. With Cerebral Palsy I am just doing this for fun, at least until I know how competitive I will be. I still have enough of a bodyfat % and water weight to make 135 by this summer so maybe I will make Leland’s prospect report in a few years. My job and my graduate degree will set me up to work in the Sports industry so this is just for love of fighting until I am too old. I do want to become a BB some day and teach. I fell in love with grappling when I was 11 and I never want to quit. After I start taking classes next week I will begin doing a weekly fanpost.
Andy Anderson - January 23, 2012
Weekly fanpost huh?
Awesome. Make sure you keep us updated with everything. If you could also take pictures of the place you will be training and behind the scenes stuff like that, that would be cool too.
discoandherpes - January 23, 2012

Andy Anderson - January 23, 2012
Cool stuff man
I’ve been thinking about starting to train again myself, so I’ve been looking around as well. My dad used to fight and wants to start training too, so I think we’re going to look for a place we can train together. Members of the community starting to train different things is inspiring in a lot of ways.
I don’t have any wrestling background, but I’m actually not terrible in the clinch. I think I can pick up wrestling if I trained it with MMA in mind. I wouldn’t have stopped, but you know, sometimes life gets in the way.
discoandherpes - January 23, 2012
Yeah I gotcha
I wanted to start right after I saw 139, and that awesome main event, but maybe this month of surviving on nothing but vegetable soup has hardened my will. I know being stranded in Texas for all of October and fighting a staph infection for three weeks definitely helped in that cause.

All attempts to Chael it up are welcome. Bob Sapp stopped fighting years ago and Fedor’s training still consists of being beat with bushes. Just ask Bisping who the real champ is on saturday.
