Jorge Rivera got a nice farewell from the Nashville, TN, crowd after his final match at UFC On FX last Friday.
UFC President Dana White got to video blog action early this week, releasing his first UFC On Fox 2 video blog on Monday, which focused on all the backstage happenings from last Friday's UFC On FX premiere.
Some highlights:
For the medical students in our readership, you'll get plenty of the post-fight doctor checkups. Eye scans, hand checks, verbal questions...they're all here!
A shot of Jorge Rivera and his goodbye in the cage with the Nashville crowd chanting "Jor-Hey!"
Before his walkout, Mike Easton is yelling at Jared Papazian somewhere in front of him. To say he's an intense dude is an understatement.
An 'only in the UFC' moment when a bloodied Christian Morecraft and Pat Barry shared a moment as both are being checked out.
Papazian's coach admonished him for running around too much in the Easton fight and reminding him about leaving it all in the cage. It was a refreshing moment where a coach was being brutally honest minutes after a fight instead of trying to make his charge feel good for the sake of an ego.
Remember when White said he was waiting for Guillard to take things more seriously? We get a shot of Guillard posing for a picture backstage with an arena worker before his fight. I worked for a pro hockey team for seven years and arena workers were always told to never bother the athletes/entertainers and especially when it was showtime, but apparently things are different in Nashville.
Post-fight, Guillard explained how he got caught in Miller's rear naked choke.
Jon Jones gave his predictions for Saturday's Rashad Evans-Phil Davis tilt, adding "Rashad's chin sucks."
I went to a Preds game in Nashville once. They had an 80’s costume contest, and the winner won a 1987 Lincoln Towncar. Seriously. But beers were 2 bucks a piece, so that ruled.
The previous backstage video blog that didn’t feature Dana in private jets or f-bombing drew growns from the ufc training crowd so I’m not surprised some hit disliked.
I admit to not reading the youtube comments though. Winners don’t read youtube comments.
No kidding. If Rashad wins, it’s because he KO’d Davis. I think it’s very unlikely Rashad manages to control Davis long enough to win by UD. Either Rashad KO’s Davis, or Davis subs Davis. I’m hoping for the latter.
I think he said “To be honest, the whole time…” couldn’t tell after that. I think he said he had thought he was going to lose, probably referring to the scramble on the ground. If so, it made sense that Morecraft had that dumbfounded look on his face when Pat ducked back behind the curtain, like he was thinking “damn, I was soooo close!”
I think they're overdoing it with the post-fight medical stuff.
It seems to be their ‘thing’ lately as far as the vlogs go. I’d prefer if they showed the more interesting ones & then move on as opposed to showing almost all of them.
And damn, Dana really loves him some Rage, huh? It’s the only music I ever hear him play on the vlogs. Hell, its the only band he even mentions.
But I hate Mike Easton. Between acting like he’s the baddest man on the planet back stage, coming out and trying to fight like dominic cruz in the first round of his 1st ufc fight, and not owning up to the fact that he lost the fight against Chase Beebee… heMs quickly become one of my least favorite fighters.
I’m starting to not hate Melvin by the way, his analysis on what happened was spot on, he had the right idea but Jim was just two steps ahead, Melvin knew how he wanted to fall and with control but Jim was just anticipating everything better.
Dana has been phoning it in for a long time on his vlogs.. He does the previous event behind the scenes which are cool but haven’t changed in many events. Then he does the weigh-in vlog and thats about all he does anymore.
16-17 what?
what is dana white trying to keep count about?
also, it’s weird that bisping vs. sonnen isn’t the main event on fox, feels like a lot of people care more about that one (including mr. white) than david vs. rashad
Sorry for the off-topic post but BE keeps breaking randomly (and to varying degrees) when I'm browsing it
Anyone else experiencing script errors and such?

If you can’t handle the situation backstage, then you don’t belong in the UFC.

My local minor league baseball teams have better promotions then that.... (S.I. Yankees & BK Cyclones) then again it's New York.

Anyone else notice that there are a huge amount of “dislikes” on the video, a brief read suggests it’s some backlash from the whole UFC supports SOPA.

Looks like the "normal" quantity of dislikes

We all know Rashad wins by UD
but I want to see Phil KO him. That would be funny.
NEW-HAMPSHIRE - January 24, 2012
We do?

Davis subbing Davis would be pretty crazy. “I tap! Wait no!”
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
“I tap! Wait no! I won! Wheee!”
I can just imagine this happening to Palhares where he rips off his own leg.
Shnak - January 24, 2012
Sounds like a Paul Harris fight.
BKdroid - January 24, 2012
Yeah, I had to rec that. Awesome!
Shnak - January 25, 2012
We do
Rashad 30-27 across the board.
NEW-HAMPSHIRE - January 24, 2012
It is a five round fight...
Andy Anderson - January 24, 2012

that actually changes things a lot. Someone is getting finished then.

Because they are both so EXPLOSIVE and ATHLETIC

What did Barry say?
Anybody else hear him say he closed his eyes during the head kick? I can’t quite make it out..
Grunskyism - January 24, 2012
Yeah something to that effect, probably trying to downplay what he did.
UncleMax - January 24, 2012
I think he said “To be honest, the whole time…” couldn’t tell after that. I think he said he had thought he was going to lose, probably referring to the scramble on the ground. “To be honest I closed my eyes….and threw…something leg…i didn’t want to loose”
Is what I heard
UncleMax - January 24, 2012
I heard the same type of thing, UncleMax..
And I loved the dumbfounded look after! It’s like he wished Barry didn’t say anything at all.
Grunskyism - January 24, 2012
To me it sounded like
Barry: “To be honest I closed my eyes and threw it [the punch] and it landed. I didn’t want to lose”
And the face was priceless

I'm so on board with that
Easton is a punk. But it was very cool of Melvin to pose for a pic when he was warming up before a huge fight. Props to him, he’ll be back
rolandd - January 24, 2012
Agree with both...
Easton looks like he’s trying wayyy too hard, and Melvin was great with his fan pic & congrats to Miller. Melvin seems like a good guy.
Atomic Salmon - January 24, 2012
His mean mugging in that promo was the most adorable attempt at intimidation ever
He should drop down to flyweight when the division opens up, he has no business fighting anywhere above that. Dude could fit in your shirt pocket.
menckenstein - January 24, 2012
Eh he's just an intense dude
I like his spirit.
phillyhoosfan - January 24, 2012
Wait he said he thought he won the Chase Bebee fight?

*Beebe*

I really thought so.
But on further searching, I can’t find anything to support that, so maybe I’m just making it up.
Still doesn’t really change my opinion of him

I’ve only seen the first season though so its possible you know this and are making a joke which I inturn do not get
Our Bovine Public - January 24, 2012
I thought those people asking him for the photo when he's about to walk out was pretty rough...
The guy was clearly nervous and gettting ready to fight.
ThatsHowIRoll - January 24, 2012
kinda seemed like he volunteered to me
Our Bovine Public - January 24, 2012
Wow watched again and you're right...
Pretty nice of him
ThatsHowIRoll - January 24, 2012
as Josh says though
Its a pretty good example of Melvin not taking things seriously. Or at leat being fully focused
Our Bovine Public - January 24, 2012
Agreed,
Seconds before the walkout I wouldn’t be taking photos. Then again, I’d probably be puking
ThatsHowIRoll - January 24, 2012
Eston are yelling at Papzian..
..right in front of him! Video was first tweeted by UFC. Intense indeed!
