Michael Bisping was a guest on HDNet's Inside MMA last night, and upped the ante on the pre-fight rhetoric being exchanged between himself and UFC on Fox 2 opponent Chael Sonnen. Sonnen has been fairly low-key so far in terms of trashing Bisping, only offering up a few quips here and there. Bisping though? That's a whole other story: (transcribed by MMA Mania):
"Okay. One. Let's start with the obvious. He's not the middleweight champion. He's been beaten many, many times. He's been submitted more times than I care to mention. Not to mention, the last time he lost a fight by submission, there were some issues involving performance enhancing drugs. I don't know what the deal is. Apparently, he has one testicle. One testicle! This is why he uses performance enhancing drugs. He's gonna need more than one little ball to fight me next weekend!"
Not bad. He continued on with his assessment of the fight, which is a little more realistic:
"He's gonna try and take me down, lay on top of me and smother me to death. Me, on the other hand, I will be arriving to fight this guy. I'm gonna look to knock him out. Of course, like all my fights, it's not gonna be easy. He's a tough opponent. I'm sure it's gonna be an amazing fight. All joking aside, it's gonna be a tough fight."
Bisping can't seem to make up his mind though. He said a few days ago that he was going to submit him from the bottom, but now he's going to knock him out. Either way, expect more amusing back-and-forth between the two in the next few days.

Has Bisbing knocked anyone out?
why would he keep saying this. Anderson is the most accurate striker in the division and he didn’t knock Chael out. Im curious to know what would happen to Bisbing if he fought Anderson…..seems like he’d play right into Andersons stand up game.
boscomma - January 24, 2012
his past two fights....
Chris Barton - January 24, 2012
13 of his 21 wins…
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
TKO strikes on the ground is not the same as knocking a guy out on the feet
KJ Gould - January 24, 2012
Correct, but it’s still a stoppage due to strikes.
tigerlee - January 24, 2012
A TKO is the same as a KO. When a fighter says “I’m going to knock him out”…they generally mean stop him. Not H-bomb him.
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
A TKO is nothing like a KO
when we’re talking about Michael Bisping.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
Hey, Machiel Van
My buddy is a Blacksmith. He could probably help you out with that Horseshoe thing you got going. Hit me up.
DankNabbot - January 24, 2012
Lol
sigbets are a mother some time.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
Mmm, no they don't
When they say ‘knock him out’, they mean separate them from consciousness. Not swarm and look busy enough for a referee to step in.
Since TKO’s can happen from a cut or landing 90% of your punches on their defending arms, it’s not the same as a Knock Out. Ever.
KJ Gould - January 24, 2012
That’s just stupid. Of course a true KO is putting someone out. But when a guy finishes another by TKO, he says “I knocked him out”. You’re just playing dumb semantics now.
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
I agree. I’ve never heard anyone say “I’ve technically knocked him out!” after a TKO victory… that’d be funny, though. Heh.
Shnak - January 24, 2012
"I'm looking to go in there, and technically take his head off"
Body Triangle - January 24, 2012
Ignoring the semantics is dumb
I’m not saying a TKO is not a legitimate way to win, but for a fighter to act like they got a Knock Out when someone’s eyelid gets accidentally sliced open or someone doesn’t fight back and ends up with nothing more than a bruised arm makes them look retarded.
KJ Gould - January 24, 2012
They still "knocked them out" of the fight
HaterSlayer - January 24, 2012
No, they finished the fight within the rules in place
KJ Gould - January 24, 2012
See below. One outcome is initiated by the ref, the other doesn’t need to involve the ref at all.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
then a submission is a knockout
Cunny - January 24, 2012
We’re talking about Michael Bisping, remember? You argue the weirdest fucking points sometimes.
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
And Bisping hasn't really knocked anyone out, not since Cage Rage
And even then I’m having a hard time remembering who he did actually knock out. I think it was Mark Epstein.
KJ Gould - January 24, 2012
I agree. Sorry Tim, but the semantics matter. They indicate two different methods of finish. To me, a TKO basically means the referee decided the fight was over. A KO means a fighter took the outcome completely out of the hands of the referee, which is more impressive and should be treated as such.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
Go ask Mike he if knocked out Jorge Rivera. Or Mayhem, Kang, McCarthy, etc. That’s the point. Whether one is more impressive or not isn’t the point, we all understand the difference between the two. It’s the use of the phrase in question. You’re still “knocking someone out” when you win by TKO. The KO means “knockout”.
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
I would politely point out to Michael that he blatantly fouled Rivera and then spit on his corner, so he probably just shouldn’t mention that fight :)
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
I suppose a TKO is a knockout, but only technically.
Richard Wade - January 24, 2012
Rec. Leave it to Wade to end this weird argument!

SSreporters - January 24, 2012

Earl Montclair - January 24, 2012
Edson Barboza really showed his knockout skills....
Against Mike Lullo.
SSreporters - January 24, 2012
The best one-liner in the biz with the true KO.
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
No they don't
You do realize the words “knock out” are represented in the “TKO” abbreviation, yea? It’s a type of knock out, but it’s absolutely still a knock out.
I mean, are you really trying to suggest that Chuck DIDN’T K.O. Tito? That’s just fucking stupid.
Chris Barton - January 24, 2012
he might mean knocked opponents unconscious, but thats what i was thinking.
People forget that Bispings only been to a decision 6 times in 25 fights. He is a finisher according to the numbers. he’s finished and won 8 of his 15 UFC fights
Robert V-U - January 24, 2012
Not to be that guy
but he really just swarms on guys and peppers them with fairly solid shots until the ref stops it. He doesn’t bomb guys with Brock or Munoz level gnp. And if it wasn’t for his cardio I don’t think he would be able to “finish” as many guys as he does.
Come at me bros!
SentientAndroid - January 24, 2012
He hasn't KO'd anyone since his Cage Rage days
Damon O. - January 24, 2012
Bisping is not a one hitter quitter, and even though I am not a fan of his, I’ll give him some credit and say that he makes up for it by outworking his opponents and throwing a lot of volume in his strikes.
chrisbboy82 - January 24, 2012
Why do people continue to misspell Bisping?
Richard Wade - January 24, 2012
they are stupid
Andy Anderson - January 24, 2012
Robbie Lawlor and John Fitch do it all the time.
Tim Burke - January 24, 2012
Vanderlei would have something to say about that
ThatsHowIRoll - January 24, 2012
it’s amazing to me how many people misspell fighter names that are right in the title of the article so consistently. i’ve made peace with it a while ago.
Victor Rodriguez - January 24, 2012
I don't understand why people think Bisping has "pillow hands"
He has TKO’d over more than half of his opponents throughout his career. As he stated himself recently, several of his last fights have finished with his opponent needing medical care at the hospital. Bisping has managed to walk away from these fights with minimal damage.
@KatanaClothing - January 24, 2012
Eventually when you get hit with a pillow multiple times over
You get buzzed.
Bisping has no KOs in his UFC career. As in he has never knocked an opponent out unconscious.
SSreporters - January 24, 2012
Well I would not say he has pillow hands but he is far from someone that you have to worry about Ko’ing you with one shot,a great example of that is Dan Henderson. He did not respect his hands at all and just walked threw his offense until that BIG right hand landed.
Also another thing that does not halp Bisping out alot of the opponets he did TKO are not known to have eather the best fighter constitution or Jaws. Just look at some of the nams he has stoped now in the UFC and that should say it all ? Elvis Sinosic,Eric Schafer,Josh Haynes,Charles McCarthy,Jason Day,Dennis Kang, etc None of those names are known for there Jaw’s and willingness to take a beating, All pretty much quiet ounce they run into any kind of opposition or solid offense hits them. There fighter constitution if they were a role playing game character would be normal to low. Someone like Shogun or Jim Miller would he high
Shocbomb - January 24, 2012
Man why'd he have to Get Real at the end there? He was doing fine shit talking.

Bisbing is on crack, here is why ..
has any one seen his performance against Miller " Mayhem " ? when he exchange or throw combinations , he lacks power . he throw straight jabs but he does not have dynamite in his hands. his punches are sloppy and you can rarely see him doing over right hands behind the ears a l a Hendo . he may have a good take down defense but this is CHAEL SONNEN’S DOUBLE LEG we are talking about here. any way he is in for a treat when Chael talks back to him . and for a grinding night inside the octagon :)
God Fist Warrior - January 24, 2012
This is such a little gem
Chris Barton - January 24, 2012
A little golden nugget of irony
Skoobs - January 24, 2012
Bispings strikes ain’t sloppy. He’s no Tank Abbott in terms of power, but his stand up is really sharp and technically correct.
sheikybaby - January 24, 2012
He’s somewhat of a poor man’s Nick Diaz.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
striking wise yes but their ground games are worlds apart
benten20 - January 24, 2012
Good point. Meant on the feet only.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
Diaz is certainly more aggressive and has a far better gas tank.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
I reckon Diaz hits harder than Bisping too. Diaz is a sickening, thudding puncher, Bisping is more a hit and move guy. I think Diaz is the best body puncher in MMA.

joshyboy708 - January 24, 2012 via mobile
I'm a little worried that this fight is not going to live up to the big expectations people have for it
Bisping has pretty good TDD and I expect a lot of really technical, and not terribly exciting, position jockeying up against the cage.
I hope I’m wrong, but I think this thing has stinker potential. And not to be a total Debby Downer, but Rashad-Davis could go that way too.
Dave Strummer - January 24, 2012
I see Bisping getting taken down and beat up. Only factor to me is Chael’s submission awareness. If Bisping submits Sonnen, I’ll die a little inside.
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
I'm having a hard time remembering how Bisping-Rashad went
but I remember not being all that jazzed about it. I could see a replay of that here.
Dave Strummer - January 24, 2012
Sonnen’s wrestling >>>> Rashad’s (especially Rashad circa 2007 when that fight occured).
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
you'd really give it four >>>>?
Rashad is a pretty damn good wrestler, and if anything, he focused on that skill more in 2007 than he does now. I think Chael is potentially the best pure MMA wrestler out there right now, but Rashad’s gotta be top 5 or 10 himself.
I think Bisping is good enough to at least make this a giant slog.
Dave Strummer - January 24, 2012
I know I though about that after I posted. Should’ve just been one or two >. Rashad is a much better MMA wrestler than he was in 2007. I just don’t see Bisping staying off his back in this one, but I could be wrong. Just remember Bisping has only fought 3 fighters in the UFC with really good wrestling, and two of them chose to stand with him. The third (Rashad) took him down 6 times but just didn’t know what to do on the ground back then, other than control position. So he’s really only been pushed by an elite wrestler once, and he was taken down 6 times and lost a UD (though he did outland Rashad on the feet, but Rashad 2007 standing? C’mon).
Machiel Van - January 24, 2012
Bisping's takedown defense
Is extremely overrated – it’s good, but not elite. He’s sitting at about 64% right now, which puts him in the same league as Anthony Pettis or Frankie Edgar. On the other hand, his scrambling is top-notch, but Sonnen’s gonna Sonnen; even if he manages to get back to his feet, Chael will be on him like a junkyard dog. Should be a relatively entertaining grapple-fest.
Patrick Wyman - January 24, 2012
Bisping has been taken down by Mayhem, Wanderlie, and guys less good at wrestling than Chael.
This fight is probably going to look like Marquardt vs. Sonnen.

mikeI981j - January 24, 2012
The only interest I have in Bisping beating Sonnen
Is the inevitable KO loss he’d suffer fighting Anderson Silva. And I mean KO, not TKO.
SSreporters - January 24, 2012
Sorry, but back to the KO/TKO debate. - What's the point of TKO's?
Why not just have KO’s and stoppages due to strikes?
invinciblearmour. - January 24, 2012
Because it will make it harder to cut promos where they say guys have knock out power in both hands
menckenstein - January 24, 2012
And KO of the Night would be a rare affair
KGNLuc - January 24, 2012
I know these guys have a lot of confidence, but..
Bisping has gotta know enough about the fight game to know he is not likely to win and that he has a very high probability of looking really bad in the process of losing. I would love to see an epic fight but I will be surprised if this makes it out of the 1st round.
MadNachos - January 24, 2012

Has Chael fought Bisping before? No. That is the fight I am talking about. This is about as bad of a match-up that Bisping could have in the UFC.
MadNachos - January 24, 2012

the only way i see Bisping taking this is catching Chael with a knee to the face while he shoots in for a takedown. either way, the odds of that happening are preeeeetty slim.
i got Sonnen here for the epic rematch in Sao Paulo.
