With the highest profile fight of his young career coming up Saturday at UFC On Fox 2, the undefeated Phil Davis takes fans behind the curtain in part one of this "day in the life" video.
We get shots of Davis shadowboxing and sparring with comments from striking coach Adrian Melendez on Davis' improvements with his standup game and why he thinks he will win on Saturday.
It should be noted that this is not a UFC produced video so there's several sponsor mentions throughout. Part 2 will focus on Davis' cardio.
The 27-year-old Davis (9-0) battles Rashad Evans in the main event of UFC On Fox 2, his first fight since decisioning Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at a Fight Night event in March. He was slated to fight Evans at UFC 133 in Philadelphia, but had to withdraw due to a knee injury.
See the full seven-minute video after the jump.

I don't know about this alliance gym
I was a big Brandon Vera fan but then came that pathetic fight against eliot marshal, Phil sure has a problem with his striking (compared to the top 10 LHW) I hope he solves it and kicks Jones ass sometime in the near future, he is a very likable person.

Is that your breakfast?
or do you eat something after?
uhh I just like a lil something in my stomach before I start training…
(pause)
That’s enough..?
yep that’s enough for me…
(dead silence)
awkwardly funny exchange there…. dunno maybe it’s just me.

He looked like he was trying not to throw the syntha-6 up
God that stuff tastes bad.
menckenstein - January 25, 2012
agreed. Cringed just watching him drink it
rU5H - January 25, 2012
I chalked it up to him being half awake still
He looked sleepy lol

For some reason, I want this to pan out like Melvin vs Jim Miller.
MicahtheCynic - January 25, 2012
With Davis swiftly choking out Evans?
Sure.
SSreporters - January 25, 2012
Yup, sounds like fun.
I’ll bring the popcorn.
MicahtheCynic - January 25, 2012
That Black Dog remix just does not work.

I actually thought
it was pretty funky, but not as funky as Beltran’s kicking technique…
DisforDelicious - January 25, 2012
it started sounding interesting but it fell apart rather quick.

boo him
People love to hate Evans, he’s gonna give the haters another reason to hate him.
Things Rashad has done so far that has pissed people off:
KTFO Chuck.
Derailed Forrest Hype Train
Made rampage look like an incompetent coach in TUF
Beat Rampage
Wrestle mauled Thiago Silva
Sent Tito back to the has been department.
Kept postponing his title shot with Shogun yadda yadda.
This saturday he’s going to make Davis look like nothing probably.

RashadsLeftNipple - January 25, 2012
he probably thought you getting a bit too dry
you must be happy that he pays so much attention to you
Rob Young - January 25, 2012
Keith Jardine approves...while trying to look disinterested.

LOL at wrestlemauled
Go watch that fight again. Takedown and then jackshit. Repeat ad nauseum. Then he gassed and Thiago absolutely should’ve knocked him the F out.
SSreporters - January 25, 2012
Speed factor
Rashad is a FAST LHW. Phil never struck me as very fast with striking or takedowns. He’s methodical. I can see Davis winning by submission, but Rashad’s speed advantage could very well win him this fight.
Cocytus - January 25, 2012
there is a major size difference
between them, Davis is way bigger and stronger but with not up to par striking …interesting match
couch-fighter - January 25, 2012
Phil does not look smooth in the standup
People at my gym training less than a year look smoother in the standup. Hope he can take Rashad down or it will be a long (short) night for him
