UFC On Fox 2: Chael Sonnen Does Interview With UFC Fake Belt, Calls Kenny Rice A Liar

Photo

Heading into his UFC on Fox 2 bout with Michael Bisping, Chael Sonnen is in his usual fine form. In a pair of video interviews he conducted to promote the show he went above and beyond with the antics.

First up, on his bizarre Highly Questionable appearance with host Dan LeBatard where he not only claimed to be the UFC middleweight champion but also appeared wearing a fake UFC belt he acquired somewhere. This isn't the first time Sonnen has claimed to be the UFC champ.

Then he follows that completely deranged performance with an interview with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani in which he goes off on Mark Cuban, HDNet, Inside MMA and especially Inside MMA co-host Kenny Rice. Sonnen's complaint about Rice? Simple, Sonnen says he's a liar.

That's pretty rich coming from a man who had to give up his real estate license and plead guilty to a federal felony for his role in a kickback scheme, who claims to be the UFC champ and whose bald-faced lies before the California State Athletic Commission were so egregious that he can't even get a license to fight in Nevada.

Both interviews are after the jump, enjoy.

"Bald-faced lies"

Chael is not exactly ahem “Mr. Clean.”

Chael Sonnen is MMA’s greatest [pro] wrestler

Don’t ask Jon Jones to sign that belt, Chael.

first thing I thought of when I saw it too lol
god damn that guy sucks at interviewing
He's usually not bad

Chael is just a strange person to interview.

he kept cracking up for absolutely no reason
I imagine

he was feeling awkward at points.

it didnt seem like awkwardness to me

it was just weird

"I will correct you. You are wrong."
"alot of ducks?"
also had a problem with that joke, it was awful
Seriously, I'm surprised that Chael didn't walkout.
I think he likes making the host squirm
wtf did that even mean
its a quote from one of the vids
i mean when LeBatard said it

made zero sense to me

indeed.

My bad. I have no idea what it means either.

Their NCAA teams

Are called Oregon Ducks, no?

Chael working it

I love this man

He’s real motherfucker when he’s being this fake/

When he says he doesn’t want to know if the parachute will open, he means it. That’s why he finds a way to lose. Because winning doesn’t truly make Chael happy.

The progression from playing the straight man in the beginning to batshit insanity by the end of his Helwani interview was amazing.

By the way, I want Jim Halpert to die in a motorhome fire for narrating those Esurance commercials.

my horn can pierce the sky

Pierce the heavens with your drill?

The LeBatard interview is actually hysterical

I usually hate Chael, but that was something awesome.

Sonnen wearing a Tapout shirt is fitting
1:36...where he discusses the peoples forum...

then turns to the camera and says “the octagon”…is pretty awesome

That really was great...
LOL Sonnen trying to tell you he's a liar.
Wow

Kyle Sonnen is king!

Both pretty entertaining interviews! I think I liked the one with Ariel better (as he’s not a complete jackass). Pretty funny how he kept going after Kenny Rice for no apparent reason, haha. I know Rice isn’t the most beloved amongst MMA fans, I’m not a huge fan either, but I watch Inside MMA every week and I don’t really get what he’s referring to about calling him a liar and stuff like that. I hope they invite him to come on the show some time soon anyway.

I preferred the Helwani interview too

LeBatard was just so damn awkward, it was kind of uncomfortable.

Agreed, although I definitely liked the concept of showing up with a fake belt and continually calling himself champion.

Both of those videos...

are the exact (to the second!) same running time… why did I even point that out?

The first one is spectacular.
Yeah, he's a little more straight with Ariel (minus the Rice stuff)

Still fun though.

I just watched the second one.

It’s really good, too.

"The People's Forum... the OCTAGON"

@ 7:35 That look is fucking hilarious!

we need a .gif of that.

I don’t get how anyone can be mad at this guy. There is absolutely no reason to take him seriously at all, if you can’t laugh, just ignore it.

I think this is it, finally, guys...

Chael has…

that crazy bastard stuck the landing

If only Chael were as awesome as Fonzie
The schill is working on me again, This is the stuff that was funny in the beginning

He was a mediocre fighter with no personality once upon a time, but now he’s getting noticed and making up for all those submission losses. Go get ’em champ!

"I've never had a drop of booze in my life and I went to the Univ of Oregon."

FUCKIN BURN!

i'm sure that makes sense to people who know the northwest

everyone else shrugs. also, like everything else he says, thats probably a lie.

Now that you mentioned it, I don’t think those guys in the Hangover were actually roofied.

No one mentioned it....

He mentioned that a guy that is clearly acting is lying

Funniest man in MMA!
Kenny Rice is probably like

What the fuck i do to that guy

Rice is a big steroid crusaider.

“Thats a good song. Good for you man”

He’s the people’s champion

i'm shocked that ESPN would put any UFC fighter on TV

especially after the hissy fit that dana threw.

you shouldn’t be shocked. Dana’s hissy fit was nothing in the grand scheme of things.

bisping by ko/tko
almost never a TKO/KO for Bisping

Chael has a good chin and stamina.

Sonnen has a granite chin.
He's never been KO'd

he lost via cut once tho.

TKO to Terry Martin count?

It was a corner stoppage but it still kinda counts to me.

Either way Bisping isnt exactly known for his stopping power so i dont see this fight ending that way, If Bisping wins it will be by decision or sub.

God I can't wait to see Sonnen Silva 2. I really hope he beats Bisbing.

I saw Sonnen Silva 1 live and it was the most exciting fight I’ve ever seen. I was screaming my head off.

yup

You and me both. It’s still to this day my greatest in person MMA experience, with the entirety of the UFC 132 card coming in at a close second.

thirded
actually......

im not sure what was better live

Silva Sonnen or Henderson Rua

The outcome to Hendo/Shogun

was more predictable, in my opinion.

Yeah I think they were both awesome for different reasons

apples and oranges

Yup. Great fights. People complain. Nothing surprising.

I wasn't complaining

if you’re referring to me. I enjoyed Hendo/Shogun.

i remember being absolutely convinced that Dan would finish Shogun in the third.

Then i just sat there with my head in my hands thinking “what the fuck?!?!?” for the last 10 minutes

Shogun might have the best chin after Cabbage. He atleast ate 3 H bombs from what I recall.

It was fucking nutty dude

I could not believe he survived and proceeded to rock the shit out of Dan multiple times himself

yeah i am still kicking myself for not going to that

I decided I was going to save money to see GSP vs Diaz at 143 instead, after I had already paid a crazy amount to see them the first time at 137

Chael gets angry

when interviewers ask him repetitive or redundant questions. I would too.

Yeah cause people try to dissect his obvious BS, his schtick and it’s like trying to find faults in a comics logic. It’s stupid, they just need to keep asking questions.

Maybe they should youtube him before they interview him

so they know what the fuck is up. They act shocked when Chael does his Chael, wtf were you expecting people?

They should just move on to newer topics.

Even Forrest Griffin is getting annoyed with all the mentions of his loss to Anderson. It gets boring.
Everytime I watch a Chael interview Anderson has to be mentioned at least once.

It doesnt help that all Chael ever talks about is Anderson, Anderson and MORE Anderson.
That's because the interviews ask him about Anderson.

I don’t doubt that he has brought up Anderson but only when it’s something new i.e not wanting to fight him anymore. Other than that, Chael never initiates the Anderson subject.

“The Anderson Subject” sounds like a bad sci-fi thriller.

I would think the most annoying

would be the constant mentioning of Anderson Silva. Sure, it’s his greatest victory but how much is there to say about it? He’s said it all, time to move on.

What victory?

He tapped and even if he hypothetically didnt he still would have got DQ’d and stripped after being popped for roids lol

Oops

My mistake. His greatest performance*

Or, rather

most relevant.

Nah, this is his greatest performance

Photobucket

That crap show is airing here in Australia on FuelTV

Only thing worth watching are the Bodog Girls lol

The interviewer’s reaction to the belt is great

and the rest of the interview is godawful.

Pro wrestlers wish they had Chael's skillz

Also, I still can’t believe Dan Lebatard and his dad talk about stuff is an actual show.

somebody vigilantly updated Kenny Rice's wiki profile
He gets exhausting at times

Bisping's interview was better

At least you hate him for being real.

Chael is a straight up gangsta' captain of the good ship WORD UP
