WWE star CM Punk and MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani did a 30-minute interview Thursday night, talking UFC On Fox 2, Chael Sonnen and more.
In a video sure to irritate the anti-pro wrestling masses, MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani talked to WWE Champion CM Punk in a 30-minute interview Thursday night, documenting what happened to Punk's planned walkout with Chael Sonnen at UFC On Fox 2 Saturday and plenty more.
As the event is in Chicago, IL, the interview was done in Punk's home and Helwani hit up a number of topics with the big MMA fan including:
Love him or hate him, Punk (Phil Brooks) knows the sport, which becomes pretty evident in the first 10 minutes of the interview. Check out this must-watch video after the jump.

'His concerns about his presence overshadowing the main event'
Bit full of himself for a children’s entertainer isn’t he? :p
Mustardfinger - January 27, 2012
Look at the audience at any WWE event
And tell me he’s a “children’s entertainer”.
YPG - January 27, 2012
They did call it the PG Era for a reason
discoandherpes - January 27, 2012
Ah im just kidding
He seems like a good guy, always have some time for MMA lovers. I just don’t really get the whole WWE thing to be honest but people can like what they like. Plenty guys I know think Im strange for watching MMA so we are all different.
Mustardfinger - January 27, 2012
I looked at the crowd, saw a lot of people that have gone through puberty but still not one mature adult; so yes he is a children's entertainer.
the jewish conquistador - January 27, 2012
It’s in Chicago, his hometown. He’s kinda popular there.

Irate is an adjective, not a verb. You don’t “irate” someone.
CstBoog - January 27, 2012 via mobile
Irate Chris Weidman. I think he’s one for the future
Holls Hoyce - January 27, 2012
Thank you. I was just gonna add that.

Grammar police
…
Josh Nason - January 27, 2012
You’re a writer posting articles on the premiere MMA blog on the Internet. As a writer, you write words.
I do not think it unreasonable that writers should know how to use the words they choose. Looks bad otherwise.
(but I appreciate being called grammar “police” instead of grammar “nazi” ;)

Cro-Mags, nice
I think Harley Flanagan is now an MMA trainer or something.
menckenstein - January 27, 2012
Apparently CM Punk actually knows punk music from what I’ve heard of him; wasn’t he into the whole SxE/HC scene?
Patrick Tenney - January 27, 2012
Props to his Cro Mags shirt
NEW YORK HARDCORE!
KOQ24 - January 27, 2012
Yeah, I know nothing about pro wrestling, post 1985
but I do appreciate anyone who wears a Cro Mags shirt and has actually, you know, listened to the Cro Mags.
Dave Strummer - January 27, 2012
yeah, he's into the straight edge lifestyle.
The Hamburger Pimp - January 27, 2012 via mobile
Yeah but unlike CM Punk and most other straight Edge HC bands John Joseph and the other Cro-Mags don’t paint X’s on my there hands and I don’t preach to other people about there lifestyle.
When I use to go to NYHC harcore shows that was the one thing I could never stand about most straight Edge people, was the constant preaching and trying to push there lifestyle onto others over and over again.
Shocbomb - January 27, 2012
BSxHC
In Buffalo, NY tons of edge kids have face tats and Xs on the hands… I don’t get it either. Does anybody know if he is trying to make HC mainstream with this whole ‘punk’ stuff cause if so fuck him.
the jewish conquistador - January 27, 2012
CRO MAGS SUCKED!
Agnostic Front, War Zone, KillIng time, Nuclear Assault (yeah I know, thrash metal) Sick of it all was were where it was at. The cro mags were exactly as described. Honorable mention to Madball for keeping the scene alive.
JAYGK95 - January 27, 2012 via mobile
Hell, throw in Youth of Today and Baltimore MD’s Minor Threat in as well!
JAYGK95 - January 27, 2012 via mobile
I could probably look it up but just wondering any one know the history behind the black X’s painted or tated onto straight edge peoples hands, When did that shit even start and in what city. I know one thing it has been going on sense atleast the mid 90’s in NY city and the hudson valley, with straight edge kids in the hard core scene.
And what a scene it is at a Hard Core show ! You will never see a more different group of people in the same place at one time. You have about 3 gropus of totaly different people at a show, The absolute worst drug addicts possible on one side of the show and there total opposite the Straight Edge on the other side with normal peole mixed in. Crazy Crazy ass scene.
Shocbomb - January 27, 2012
I’m totally making this up, but when I went to clubs when I was under 21 you would get a giant x on your hand so the bartender knew not to give you a drink, and the bouncer knew to throw you out if a hand with an x on it had a beer. I think of that whenever I see those x’s.
Phildo - January 27, 2012
Hahaha so true about virtually any HC show and its hard to explain to other people. I am just going to hope this video embeds
the jewish conquistador - January 28, 2012
they vid took foever to load for me. And yes can you imagine trying to explain to someone how the hard core scene works and whats its actually like, no one would believe you that a vegan would be hanging out with a Heroin addict for 1 night but it happens a HC show. At the same time it was the worst of the scene also. Kids showing up just to buy and use drugs/OD’s and alchool poisoning deaths, etc. And like I said above straight Edge kids looking just to pawn there life style off on and groups of them jumping someone just for drinking a beer or smoking a cig, etc. I use to hate kids/people who would just show up for shit other then the music Drugs, trouble,to fight, etc
It was the best of people and the worst all in one night on a extreme level.
A fun part of my late teens to mid 20’s it was going to HC shows. Saw alot of crazy shit also.

I don’t think he’s a better talker than Jericho.
savik - January 27, 2012
Has Jericho even said anything since he's come back?
KJ Gould - January 27, 2012
Yes
Something like “This Sunday is going to be the end of the world”. Probably wins the Rumble. Jericho-Punk at Mania is a MUST.
lwood24 - January 27, 2012
i dont watch wwe any more but i know alll about jerichos line of work. it was very good but im just saying i knew cm punk was good back in ring of honor when he was leaving and did like this crazy triple h like promo he’s good at just being really blunt and honest in his promos go look at what he said to jeff hardy that was the last stuff i seen of his before the big fuck you vince promo. he completely told jeff off and i believed it because sadly its true he’s a disappointment lol cm punk on the mic is pretty damn great honestly he’s the only person i’ll still stay looking for
Mac Marley - January 27, 2012
Punks's good, Jericho's great
neither can touch prime Rock. Not even close
warren305 - January 27, 2012
Truth
Even though CM Punk’s infamous shoot on RAW was what got me to pay attention to wrestling again.
discoandherpes - January 27, 2012
He's not

I went to a Ring of Honor show here in Norfolk, VA
The Briscoe Brothers are absolutely just like The Diaz brothers except replace stockton ca with Deleware.

IRodC - January 27, 2012
Who?
BJJDenver - January 27, 2012
CM Punk is an awesome performer
His mic skills are top notch and his in ring work is phenomenal. He tweeted a while back that any athlete who uses peds is a pussy. I wonder if that’s why he’s not walking out with Sonnen. But dude does know his mma. As far as the Briscoes go they aren’t like the Diaz brothers cuz they CAN wrestle. Sorry, had to throw that in.
filo bedo - January 27, 2012 via mobile
