Join Bloody Elbow tonight for a LIVE discussion of the second episode of Primetime. It airs at 11:00 PM ET (dunno Pacific, you may get delayed) only on FX. If you miss the episode, there will be a replay next week on Fuel TV.
Though all the focus is being placed on UFC on Fox 2, there is a card next weekend headlined by a fight between Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit for the interim UFC welterweight title. The story leading up is that both men were at one time slated to face Georges St. Pierre for his welterweight belt but due to unforeseen circumstances, neither fighter received their shot. For Diaz it was missing two major press obligations related to UFC 137. Diaz' loss was Condit's gain as he was placed in the main eventing role.
Unfortunately, St. Pierre went down with an injury and Condit was placed in a hold pattern. Due to Diaz' amazing showing at 137 he was again given a shot at St. Pierre's belt only to have it snatched away again when GSP suffered a major knee injury. Because they can't have the belt on hold for over a year, the UFC has decided to bring back the interim belt.

Both Nick Diaz and GSP came across as total bad asses in this episode

Great show, really enjoyed that including the check up on GSP, but was anyone else a little disturbed by the TAPOUT commercial with the little kids? That is not an image of MMA that needs to be out there.
dpk875 - January 27, 2012
mohawks are upsetting. Especially on kids
Robust23 - January 27, 2012
I hope you're being sarcastic
First, that ad is over two years old. Second, what’s wrong with kids training in martial arts?
MicahtheCynic - January 27, 2012
These guys are jealous of these lil dudes getting to train and have a sponsor
RECE ROCK - January 28, 2012 via mobile
their dad works for Tapout
and has connections to fighters to coach them. If they don’t get burned out they are gonna be fun to watch in a decade or so.
Andy Anderson - January 28, 2012
They're on the commercial
But don’t think there aren’t 1000’s of those kids out there. It has nothing to do with connections or money.
Joben - January 28, 2012
Seems like Carlos has got a lot on his plate
Home remodel, new wife, young kid… a lot to be thinking about on top of having to prepare for Diaz
Pantherhare - January 28, 2012
I was thinking the same
I thought “If I was fighting Nick Diaz I would be a lot less worried about the house, and I would have a Nanny on lockdown.”
Seriously, I understand building yourself up and being confident, but this is Nick Diaz. You need to know whats coming so you don’t get demoralized after you eat 100 punches in the first round. For real, when they showed the remodeI was like, dude’s gonna lose this fight. uggh.
I don’t know, it’s not like you’re gonna go on TV and say, this is gonna be ugly and I am gonna actually be ugly after this fight due to the volume of punches I will be taking, but some acknowledgement of the seriousness of this opponent needs to be there for me to think they have a realistic understanding of the fight.
DankNabbot - January 28, 2012
Diaz is the most interesting/entertaining fighter in the sport.
RolloTomasi - January 28, 2012
Nope.
MicahtheCynic - January 28, 2012
But his fights are usually so boring tho....
RolloTomasi - January 29, 2012
Yep Interesting... Like watching a documentary about mental health & hygiene patient who is a professional athlete....
RECE ROCK - January 28, 2012 via mobile
Hygiene?
Diaz isn’t clean?
RolloTomasi - January 29, 2012
another great episode, but was i the only one that felt like Condit is being overshadowed by this whole GSP vs Diaz beef?
it seems like the UFC production crew is getting a head start promoting a fight between them that might never happen should condit win.
Also, Carlos Condit’s dad seems like an awesome dad, that is all.
darkotto23 - January 28, 2012
So we know who the UFC wants to win...
Carlos got assed out a little there. But at the same time, he doesn’t have the most engaging personality. That, and the more Diaz, the better.
TheFilt - January 28, 2012
Yeah I agree, Condit gettin overlooked
Although Condit got most of the airtime in the first episode, mainly because it seems they can’t get any real footage or interviews with Nick. All their stuff in both episodes is from the one interview.
GSP shouldn’t be in these episodes. That said, he did come across as badass. I am pumped for GSP v Diaz if it happens.
Well Read Idiot - January 28, 2012
It was actually Condit's dad doing most of the talking - he's a politician
But yeah, Condit doesn’t seem like he’s much of a talker or has a personality…
BrandtShaft! - January 28, 2012
I've been saying this for years
Condit needs to drop acid
In Rainbows - January 28, 2012
APC
Using “Counting Bodies Like Sheep to the Rhythm of the War Drums” by A Perfect Cirlce, for the final parallel editing of the GSP and Diaz foreshadowing, deserves mad props. +1000 to the UFC production.

Yiep yiep, I was stunned for a second too. I would’ve expected POD or other shit, but that was a pleasant surprise.

the world through the eyes of a Diaz:
the guy with the big nose - January 28, 2012
God I wish Diaz went on TUF back in the day. Who wouldn’t enjoy watching him have a breakdown in the house?
forkboy - January 28, 2012
Diaz is by far the most intriguing character in MMA today. Condit definitely seems a nice guy, albeit a very dull one, but there’s no doubt who the star of this Primetime series is and even less about who would make a more exciting challenger to St.Pierre.
sheikybaby - January 28, 2012
Two ex champs from other organizations
Fighting for the UFC (interim) belt. Good shit.
I see diaz taking a late 4th round stoppage. Condit has great standup and can get a knock out, but Diaz flurries will end his night. Fight should look alot like the penn fight but with more kicks from Condit. Diaz will break him.
cager - January 28, 2012
GSP trash talking at the end. wtf!
Rampage01 - January 28, 2012
GSP is still the man
Can’t wait to see him back
