Charles Oliveira defeats Eric Wisely by Submission. The stoppage came at 1:43 in the first round.
Eric Wisely landed a push kick the fight round. His attempt at a kick to the body was unsuccessful with Oliveria catching the kick and tossing Wisely to the ground. Charles Oliveira landed punches from the top before looking to for a leg lock. Wisely defended well but left his leg in and Oliveira rolled with Wisely's leg locked in. In what can only be called a highly unlikely submission, Wisely was forced to tap as his leg was twisted the wrong way. The official call is that it was a calf slicer. Wild set up.
This was Charles Oliveira's featherweight debut. After a successful UFC debut he was 0-2 (1) in his last three fights at lightweight. Despite the weight cut, he looked to be the same size he was at 155 pounds. Eric Wisely entered the fight as a prospect from the mid-West. He was making his UFC debut.

lucky submission?
I think not!

Tough first fight

Lucky submission, really?
Look at the way Oliveira pulled back on Wisely’s body to increase the pressure at the end there. I don’t train BJJ, but it sure seemed deliberate to me.

Yeah, good call
The last replay they did, as Oliveira was leaving the cage after the post-fight interview, makes it really clear.

Guys...I write these as the fight is going. Essentially a past tense play by play.
It looked like a lucky submission. I have edited the post though to reflect that it was highly unlikely instead.

good man!

he was trying to set up a reverse STF
but Wisely tapped out before it was completed.

Fair enough
I couldn’t tell how he did it until I rewound and watched the reply a whole bunch of times

Sick
Calf slicer submission.

no such thing as a lucky submission
that takes a ton of anticipation to set up and lots of technique to finish.
an awesome finish! I didn’t hear anything if FOX will put prelim fights on if time allows but this would be worth bumping up.

It's a classic recounter to a kneebar escape
Erik Paulson shows it at the end of this video

One of the vids that introduced me to the calf-splicer

catch wrestling strikes again
BJJ guys are catching on to this “leg lock” stuff

I like when
you give the catch-wrestling version of these subs, very cool.
KGW - January 28, 2012
You bad motherfucker

I also prefer calling it a Knee Buster
As Calf Slicer doesn’t quite highlight the potential severity of the move.

Ive done this a few times
You can to this from the top when theyre belly down aswell
