Wow, that was boring

Good god this was a horrible fight. Weidman should be let off the hook seeing as how he only had 11 days to prepare, but Maia had no excuse. He not only gassed but also displayed some of the most awkward striking I’ve seen in a while..He really seems to have regressed in recent fights

Is it jsut me or
does Demian Maia look worse and worse (physically) every time out? He looks more flabby and his face looks like he’s aged 5 years between each fight.
Pizatch - January 28, 2012
He virtually has eliminated submissions as part of his game. It’s really disappointing to watch this guy strike
Robert V-U - January 28, 2012
no its not just you I said the same thing. He has been gassing hard middle 2nd round it seems every fight the last 4 or 5 fights now, other fights he was able to gas get a takedown and ride out top control though
Shocbomb - January 28, 2012
I don’t even mean his technique… just his physique. He’s all flabby and his face is pitted like he’s been doing crack and living on the streets.
Pizatch - January 28, 2012
Maia?
y u no submission attempt?
Zakk - January 28, 2012
I was surprised at how bad Maia’s conditioning was in the third. That makes his training for this fight a little suspect IMO. Disappointing performance by him to say the least.
Weidman got a big win for his resume

Hard fought?
More like hard to watch (ba-dum-bum)
Seriously, that looked like an Ultimate Fighter qualifying match

I don’t see why any one is shocked. Breen and others on BE broguth up how this fight would probably turn out to be a horrible sloppy kickboxing match with 2 gasses fighters, Also Maia has a history of gassing its not like this is the 1st time, in other fights he was able to just ride out top control until it was over

Did anyone notice in round 2
Rogan making a point about Maia’s jiu-jitsu confusing people because he’s a southpaw and thus goes the opposite way than people expect? Now re-watch Maia-Sonnen where Goldberg makes the exact same point and Rogan’s all “nah, not really”.
Most interesting part of this fight, for me.

I was thinking the same exact thing. Maybe he goes on BE too much and just always thinks Goldie is wrong.
Hendo_One-Shot - January 28, 2012
impressed you remembered
Cunny - January 28, 2012
I've watched Sonnen-Maia a few times.
One of my favourite submissions.

This shit sucked. Maia disappointed big time. Also stop bringing up the freaking 11 day notice Goldberg.

Ugh
Maia maia maia…… Also Weidman isn’t earning any fans or more importantly Dana White love, turning in this kind of performance on Big Time tv. Short notice though and on a top opponent….blahblahblah shit sucked.

You can’t hold what happened against Weidman… he stepped in on 11 days notice… It’s 100% Maia’s fault that it was as bad as it was in the 2nd half of the fight… where was his cardio??
Shnak - January 28, 2012
The second time Maia's been put in a big fight and the second time he's stunk the joint the out.
Welcome to Fuel TV.
Akemi Homura - January 28, 2012
Maia loses again and he's cut, I think
Sad to say, he’s one of my favorite MWs. Sucks to seem him turn in a performance like this.
The Lethal Haze - January 28, 2012
Well, Weidman didn’t get the sub I was hoping (although he kind of got close at the end of the 2nd round), but he still won fairly easily. Not bad for 11 days notice. Oh, and what the heck was going on with Maia’s cardio? He was spent midway through the fight!!
Shnak - January 28, 2012
weeeedman!
MegaReem - January 28, 2012
I don't get it
He is 1 of the 2 scariest guys to go to the ground with (Palhares being the other) and he used his jitz just to turn it into a standup battle
Full Mount - January 28, 2012
Maia wanted nothing to do with Weidman on the ground
:(

The real score card
Jesus H. Christ - January 28, 2012
Who does Weidman fight next?
He just beat a top 10 middleweight. Should we expect another top 10 middleweight? Maybe a contender? Belfort if he beats Silva?
