Chael Sonnen

Oh God, maybe Fitch vs Shields would have had better action.

I bet it would have been better as a 3 rounder. I do not like these 5 round non title fights at all.
J_Maddux - January 29, 2012
So you didn't like Shogun/Hendo?
Zachary Kater - January 29, 2012
It's not that I didn't like see those extra two rounds and of course you can make the argument that we get to see some extra exciting rounds like Shogun/Hendo, but...
I just don’t like it. I think it takes from the “purity” (I use this term loosly) of the sport. Like it’s more for the spectacle then the sport. I just believe 5 rounds are special and you have to really earn that right in the form of a title shot. (I guess you could also make the argument that it helps challengers get that 4 and 5 round experience they might need to win in a 5 round championship fight but…) I don’ think 5 rounders necessarily lead to better fights because a different pace has to be set. Like this fight. They were pacing themselves for the 5 rounds and it may have been much more exciting as a 3 rounds sport. And thinking about it someone new to the sport my not have understood why all the fighters were 3 rounders but the Rashad/Davis fight was. I also think it is a lot more wear and tear on the fighters to fight these 5 rounders.
I hated when I heard about the switch to 5 round main events, and I still don’t like.
J_Maddux - January 29, 2012
*And thinking about it someone new to the sport my not have understood why all the fighters were 3 rounders but the Rashad/Davis fight wasN'T
I
J_Maddux - January 29, 2012
I think Rashad played it safe
Maybe to make sure he gets the W injury free.
malo - January 28, 2012 via mobile
He also knew that he had to fight for 5 rounds in a freaking NON title match.
I think that slowed his pace a bit.
J_Maddux - January 29, 2012
Ratings are in 10 million people where put to sleep tonight, the top 3 fight didn't deliver imo.
malo - January 28, 2012 via mobile
I think these bonuses reflect the fact that Dana and company where not happy with the big three fights.
malo - January 28, 2012 via mobile
The Weidman/Maia score was announced wrong, it was a unanimous decision for Weidman.
Tim Burke - January 28, 2012
Ratings were a sustained high number due to all people tuning in promptly being put in a deep slumber
halitosis - January 28, 2012 via mobile
any links for the bonus winners fights?
i missed them
THEFILMGUY - January 28, 2012
Thought tonight was going to be the card to make FOX casuals pop
Not to be…
Expect a drop off for the next one
MostDiabolicalCasanova - January 28, 2012
I think Dana will at least be happy that there won’t be some UFC= Barbarianism with the “casual” media this was about as civilized as the ufc gets lol lots of weak no damage grappling. The fuel prelims were pretty good though.
The_Devil_You_Know - January 28, 2012
I guess Lavar deserves that.
I thought Swanson would get it, but Beltran’s never been knocked out before. Hopefully he gets cut.
kreally - January 28, 2012
Woohoo, it started
The One Who Wears The Crown - January 28, 2012
Whoah..nvm, clicked something else
The One Who Wears The Crown - January 28, 2012
anyone else watching the post fight show on fuel?
darkotto23 - January 28, 2012
damn! damian's last 7 fights have all gone to a decision.
He hasn’t finished a fight since he choked out chael.
darkotto23 - January 28, 2012
Attendance 17,425. Gate 1.2 million.
Tim Burke - January 28, 2012
No Dana
Oh man haha
AwkwardBoner - January 28, 2012
no dana huh?
Dave Strummer - January 28, 2012
Boo, no Dana
The One Who Wears The Crown - January 28, 2012
Chael Sonnen: Company Man.
Tim Burke - January 28, 2012
I enjoy Chael at post-fight pressers.
When he’s not “on”, he has very good answers and explanations. He breaks his own fights down very well.
KatGirl - January 28, 2012
How many people are up there with Chael and Bisping (not including the Dana sub)?
The One Who Wears The Crown - January 28, 2012
nvm just got my answer lol
The One Who Wears The Crown - January 28, 2012
I am now a Bisping fan.
How did that happen?
IKiIIed007 - January 28, 2012
He seems rather pleasant right now, doesn't he?
KatGirl - January 28, 2012
he's always nice postfight
Cunny - January 28, 2012
Ugggh
Me too. I was so shocked to find myself rooting for him after his heroic efforts to get to his feet started to affect me.
DankNabbot - January 29, 2012
Denis Kang can’t wrestle, Mikey.
Tim Burke - January 28, 2012
i love phil davis
he’s exactly the same win or lose
Cunny - January 28, 2012
I like this Lavar guy
He hits like a truck.
IKiIIed007 - January 28, 2012
he's a monster
terrible, terrible on the ground, or after two rounds. But he can definitely end your night in a hurry.
Dave Strummer - January 28, 2012
So he's like 99% of the other heavyweights.
Jonathan. - January 29, 2012
I have to agree
He wasn’t given any thought coming in. He definitely won’t win a championship, but he’ll be fun to watch smashing low level fighters on the undercard.
Baby Wads - January 28, 2012
I want Rashad to make an album of Babyface covers
mollcutpurse - January 28, 2012
Rashad is digging a hole for himself.
IKiIIed007 - January 28, 2012
?
he seems to be coming off well
Cunny - January 28, 2012
Chael making more Brazilian friends...
IKiIIed007 - January 28, 2012
If he keeps running his mouth about Brazilians
And he beats Silva in front of a stadium crowd, I think the possibility of a riot is high. Especially if he gets up there and plays the heel in a victory speech. Whoa, just thinking about that makes me giggle.
DankNabbot - January 29, 2012
I wonder what the Jones-Evans betting line is going to open at.
IKiIIed007 - January 28, 2012
-200ish
Dave Strummer - January 28, 2012
conservative guess i suspect
Cunny - January 28, 2012
Rashad's looked good lately
I don’t see a crazy, crazy line.
Dave Strummer - January 28, 2012
jones just murdered machida
he’s looking more unstoppable than ever
basing a crazy line more on him than rashad
Cunny - January 28, 2012
I think it’s gotta be -300 or worse. If it opens in the -200’s I think you will see money come in on Bones quick.
Hardy's in your face - January 28, 2012
Chael sounded really good in the post conference alot better then his scripted crap.
The_Devil_You_Know - January 29, 2012
The scripted crap is great for pre-fight hype
Post-fight everyone appreciates a little honest reflection.
Bisping was sportsmanlike but obviously very pissed off. Can’t say I blame him; I had it 29-28 Bisping too.
ihateemo - January 29, 2012
I recently saw a Demian Maia pre-fight interview with Karyn Bryant and he definitely sounded sick. Wonder if that played in
Robust23 - January 29, 2012
I can't see anything else as an explanation
He looked much sharper on his feet against Munoz. I’ve never seen him that sluggish or inept. It was embarassing.
ihateemo - January 29, 2012
Mike Straka sucks. How does he have a job?
Robust23 - January 29, 2012
I really don’t understand Dunham vs Lentz as fight of the night.
Johnson/Roller was a much better fight.
roblo - January 29, 2012
I think they did it as a kudos to Lentz. Besides, you know that the sloppy stand-up “wars” always get the FON bonus. Hell…Rogan usually gives the unofficial FON to Beltran before the fight even starts.
