There have been a few minor changes to the UFC 143 undercard over the last couple of weeks, but not nearly as many as the month prior to that. The main card looks exactly the same as it did on January 1st, which is a minor miracle at this point. Nick Diaz and Carlos Condit will meet for the interim welterweight belt on February 4th in Las Vegas, and Josh Koscheck will face Mike Pierce. In addition to that, Fabricio Werdum returns to the UFC to face Roy Nelson, and Renan Barao and Scott Jorgensen will face to see who gets the next shot at the UFC bantamweight title after Dominick Cruz vs. Urijah Faber 3. Most of the undercard will be shown on FX, though two bouts will still air on Facebook. Here's the current card (prelims after the jump):
Feb 4th, live on pay-per-view from Las Vegas, NV:
Main Card:
Nick Diaz (26-7, 1 NC) vs. Carlos Condit (27-5) [Interim WW Title]

![]()
Renan Barao (27-1, 1 NC) vs. Scott Jorgensen (13-4)

Good card, although why the UFC would have Werdum as co-main of anything after his last shitshow is beyond me.
Also, Gladiator intro gone as of this PPV.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Finally gone now? I was under the impression it should’ve been gone at 142, then when it happened at 142 it felt like a kick in the nuts.
Tim Bernier - January 29, 2012
Dana White said it on Twitter
Maybe they waited for SB weekend and their first Vegas show of 2012
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
please no double leg robots
Is it too much to ask to have a LITTLE class?
some schmuck in texas - January 29, 2012
Wat, is that going to be the new intro?
I thought that was for Fox/Newscorp only.
pornflake - January 30, 2012
Those robots were ugly as hell
I would rather watch “Gladiator Man” a thousand times, than those stupid robots.
Hugin - January 30, 2012 via mobile
I gotta figure they're pushing for at least a little promotional continuity.
Maybe if C3PColeman was gnping Jay Glazer I’d be more open to it…
some schmuck in texas - January 30, 2012
I seriously thought 'Oh, REAL STEEL ad coming up'
pornflake - January 30, 2012
This x 1000
The robots were worse than the Gladiator-intro ever was. I hope they get rid of Optimus Primetime asap.
KGNLuc - January 30, 2012
for those of you who aren't football fans
Fox has been rocking those robots for a while and they are nearly universally hated and mocked as are a lot of their graphics. Don’t count on them to get rid of them for their Fox cards anytime soon.
DankNabbot - January 30, 2012
Barao better win. If I have to watch Dom dance around Spotty again I will cry.
T.C. Engel - January 29, 2012
I'm on the Barao bandwagon
Tired of Cruz. I don’t think he’s exciting but I don’t think he’s incredibly boring. He’s just annoying.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Love Cruz
But think Faber takes him this time. It’d be good for the division. New champion new challengers, and if its close Cruz can be seen as a top contender still. I think Barao can beat Jorgenson but wouldn’t be surprised to see Jorg take it. Barao has an interesting style for Cruz and Faber. Jorgenson…..eh not much. His look is marketable?
cager - January 29, 2012
Cruz's wrestling is too good for Faber
Maybe Faber can get Cruz’s timing better but I think Cruz is just a better all-around fighter than Faber.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Faber clearly has improved his boxing
He looked terrific fighting Bowles.
halitosis - January 29, 2012 via mobile
Spotty? Really?
ouch.
DankNabbot - January 30, 2012
I know Herman has been on a roll
But Clifford Starks? Really?
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Dudes undefeated. Beast mode.
Herman should win by crazy submission
NEW-HAMPSHIRE - January 30, 2012
You said "Beast Mode,"
which means that Rollo Tomasi will commence a Marshawn Lynch gif-fest.
Sugel Mendoza - January 30, 2012
I'll catch some heat for saying this
But Chris Cope beats C.B. Dollaway in terms of douchefaceness in my book.
wonderfulspam - January 29, 2012
Matt Brown vs. Chris Cope is a preposterous fight
Brown by submission.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Even if that were true, have you heard Dolloway's voice?
It’s like a seagull getting its nails dragged across a chalkboard. It’s worse than Van Halen when Gary Cherone was their singer.
pdl - January 29, 2012
I hear what you are saying
And my only reply is “WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”
Grrrr, I friggin’ hate Chris Cope. At least Dolloway’s fight against Hamman was fun.
wonderfulspam - January 29, 2012
His fight with Munoz was also fun
Very, very entertaining
halitosis - January 29, 2012 via mobile
Not to mention the Sadollah fight
And Tom Lawlor. All great to me.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Yup
I quite like him as a Fuel TV sort of fighter. Chris Cope on the other hand can GTFO.
wonderfulspam - January 29, 2012
Cope is everything I hate(d) about TUF from season 6 onwards
Sub-UFC talent guaranteed 3 fights just by being on the show, while prospects like Woodley (Yes….him), Saffedine, and others are confined to Strikeforce.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
To me he's that
And more. He’s a standout douche during an era of douchery, more or less.
wonderfulspam - January 29, 2012
Prospects like Woodley, Saffedine and others shouldn’t have signed with Strikeforce in the first place. Why is everyone always forgetting the little fact that those stuck in Strikeforce today signed on the dotted line?
Shnak - January 30, 2012
Am I the only one who would rather have Poirier still on the main card? Even if it should be a squash match, I think Poirier deserves to be on the PPV.
Baby Wads - January 29, 2012
Nope, me too for sure.
T.C. Engel - January 29, 2012
Agreed
Poirier needs exposure. Hopefully he gets a quick finish although I’m curious to see if Holloway has got anything for him, he looked quite exciting but wild in the scouting report footage.
wonderfulspam - January 29, 2012
As far as exposure, he is going to be on FX...that's not bad.
Chris Groves - January 30, 2012
at least fx is in HD not like fuel tv if you even get it
biggant - January 30, 2012 via mobile
Yup
Definite contender.
Ed Herman? Wut?
halitosis - January 29, 2012 via mobile
I get that Herman is a veteran, and he’s on a roll lately, but over a possible future contender? I don’t expect title contention from Herman, so I just hope Starks ends up being a prospect worth watching. I never got to see his debut.
Baby Wads - January 29, 2012
Starks’ debut in the UFC against Jacoby was not anything to write home about. Starks showed solid wrestling, but that’s about it.
chrisbboy82 - January 30, 2012
Not that anyone cares but I got
Condit by TKO. Nick Diaz gets chin checked alot and I think Condit might hit even harder then Daley
Roy Nelson by decision: I think he can hurt Werdum standing better then Werdum can hurt him and his TDD is to good for Werdum.
Mike Pierce by Decision: Mike Pierce is damn tough, the old guard of the WW division is going down and AKA has had alot of bad luck lately. Call it more a hunch then any good reason as to why Pierce will win
Jorgenson by decision: He has just fought and beat better comp then Baroa for me to bet on Barao
Herman by TKO: Because Herman has been on a tear since he returned to the octagon and his power and submission skills are really good. And because I cannot remember who Starks is. That and Herman looks like Wash from Firefly so I am legally required to pick him to win
DarthKitty - January 29, 2012
Condit might hit even harder than Daley? Are you shitting me? Daley hits like a mack truck.
That Hardy KO was his first proper KO in YEARS.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Wait, what?
WanderChe - January 29, 2012 via mobile
Condit has KO power, but most of Condit's KO wins were TKOs through volume of punches
His last KO through punches before the Hardy fight was Renato Verissimo in 2006.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Stungun I would say is a straight KO
Sure he followed up, but he was done after that flying knee
DarthKitty - January 29, 2012
Should've been clear
Was talking about punching power because Stun Gun was a clear KO.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
And he fought Hardy first
halitosis - January 29, 2012 via mobile
This card elicits huge mixed feelings for me…..amazing main event , god awful everything else. What to do what to do……
Hutchy - January 29, 2012 via mobile
Really? Scotty/Barao does nothing for you? Or Koscheck/Pierce?
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Not gonna lie, I like Mike Pierce
But I wish Kos were fighting Hendricks. Pierce isn’t the most exciting guy out of the wrestleboxers.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Am I wrong
thinking Kos is gonna merc this guy? His style seems identical and Kos has been doing it longer.
DankNabbot - January 29, 2012
Yes, very
Pierce is much sharper and will stuff Kos’ shots at will. Sort of like GSP/Kos.
halitosis - January 29, 2012 via mobile
Good
I can’t stand Koschek and anyone who reps such a bad haircut year after year deserves to lose.
DankNabbot - January 29, 2012
You, sir, are wrong on the interwebs.
Chris Hall - January 30, 2012
Your reply is to halitosis
But it feels like you are talking to me from the context. In any case, I’m not wrong about his hairstyle.
DankNabbot - January 30, 2012
Condit by TKO because fuck you that’s why.
savik - January 29, 2012
209 Bitch!
And fuck your motherrrrrrrr!
ThatsHowIRoll - January 29, 2012
If you don’t have a fight boner over Barao v. Jorgensen you are impotent. Sorry for the loss of your manhood.
Earl Montclair - January 29, 2012
That's pretty much what I said about Maia - Weidman before the fight
After that god-awful fanpost said something about the UFC on Fox card being ruined because of “Chris Who?”. In other words, I’m not going to jinx this one.
(touch wood)
wonderfulspam - January 29, 2012
i must go read it
Earl Montclair - January 29, 2012
It's
Here. I don’t know what was worse, the fanpost or that fact that Fraser Coffeen and I both got the Weidman – Maia fight so wrong.
wonderfulspam - January 29, 2012
Card is shit but the main event should be good.
Meek Mill - January 29, 2012
Only bad part of the card is most of the prelims
Chris Cope, Matt Riddle, several no-names, etc.
SSreporters - January 29, 2012
Thiago Alves
Screw Jon Jones, that’s your company man Dana

RolloTomasi - January 30, 2012
Poor Max Holloway
Afrotikiman - January 29, 2012 via mobile
you know what's crazy?
If Diaz or Condit get injured i think they’ll have to replace them with Koscheck, they can’t have Nelson vs Werdum headline… imagine that, koscheck might get the interim title and fight gsp again heh
In Rainbows - January 30, 2012
Hendricks or Ellenburger>>>Koscheck
At least as far as replacing one of the headliners
rockyman500 - January 30, 2012
I don’t know I’d love to see Diaz vs Kos at some point in the future.
AusEagle - January 30, 2012
Don't you dar fucking jinx this fight!
Back when the four man ‘GSP vs Diaz’-‘Condit vs Penn’ tourney was set up, I was hoping for Diaz and Condit to win to set up this fight.
Then when it evolved into ‘GSP vs Condit’ and ‘Diaz vs Penn’ I was rooting for the same thing.
Then when it was ‘GSP vs Diaz’ and ‘Condit vs Koscheck’ I was still pulling for it.
But now we’ve finally got it…this is without a doubt going to be one of the great fights in WW history. I could cut a f’cking promo better than Chael Sonnen for this fight. So you better not jinx it.
Plus, we’re only 6 days away…I’d like to think it’s a little too close for anything major to go wrong.
Chris Groves - January 30, 2012
Diaz could be in another plane crash
NEW-HAMPSHIRE - January 30, 2012
Dana told the UG that this is the show that will debut the new intro. Link is here.
RIP Gladiator :(
rabrown - January 30, 2012
This will be part 2 of the Baron's coming out party.
Chris Groves - January 30, 2012
Baron?
Do you mean Barao?
ElliotMatheny - January 30, 2012
Barao is portuguese for Baron
Renan’s actual name is Renan do Nascimento Mota Pegado
Chris Groves - January 30, 2012
Or simply Renan Pegado, I suppose
Chris Groves - January 30, 2012
I knew that he had a long Portugese name,
but I didn’t know that Barao was the Portugese equivalent of Baron. Learn something new every day, I suppose!
ElliotMatheny - January 30, 2012
Clifford Starks is fighting on the main portion of the Super Bowl weekend card
Fail.
crazedfan - January 30, 2012
You do realize
that Starks is a D-1 wrestler, and has won all of his 8 fights in only 2 years in the sport… right? I fail to see how that’s a fail. He’s actually a decent prospect.
ElliotMatheny - January 30, 2012
He is a solid prospect
Plus you need to look at it in terms of the matchup.
If he was fighting some other prospect, sure, it’d be a little WTF. But he’s fighting Ed Herman who is coming off of two great first round finishes.
Chris Groves - January 30, 2012
Fully agree
Starks – Herman is simply not a PPV worthy fight.
Horselover Fat - January 30, 2012
Herman looked great in his previous two outings, Starks is apparently a top notch prospect, and considering the undercard, there’s no real obvious fight that would deserve to be on the main card more than this one.
Shnak - January 30, 2012
That’s the problem, there should be better fights than this one available. Starks first fight in the UFC was boring as shit, so I’m not exactly in a hurry to see him again. Herman is a decent fighter, but his last two wins were against Kyle Noke and Tim Credeur, not exactly elite opposition. I don’t think that automatically makes him a main carder, especially on what is supposed to be one of the biggest PPV’s of the year.
Horselover Fat - January 30, 2012
Oh I agree, there should be better fights than this one to pick from and put on the main card, but there aren’t. So of the available choices, it’s the best pick.
But better get used to it… most PPV’s will be top heavy from now on, especially those with big title fights. With the number of cards nowadays, it’s better to only expect 3-4 high-profile fights per card, and be surprised when a card is actually stacked with great and relevant fights.
Shnak - January 30, 2012
Oh, poor us, only 3 or 4 well high profile fights.
I’m sure boxing shed tear
cut the shit, the more new fighters per ppv, the more new fighters you’ll see as high profile, thus the more 4-5 high profile fights per event
In Rainbows - January 30, 2012
listen horse
if the UFC doesn’t promote new talent to the ppv shows they’ll never gain new fan favs. They have FIVE fights on the main card, wtf you mean it ain’t PAY.PERRRR.VIEW! WOR! THY!? dawg…seriously dawg you aint thinkan
In Rainbows - January 30, 2012
What are you doing?
crazedfan - January 30, 2012
Right now?
right now i’m responding to some scrub that has a ten word max on his posts
In Rainbows - January 30, 2012
What the hell does "PPV worthy" even mean?
Aren’t we all going to watch the prelims, anyways?
Plus… the reason that Starks/ Herman was moved up to the main card is that Koch had to pull out of his fight with Poirer.
ElliotMatheny - January 30, 2012
Great build up job by Primetime, fantastic footage of Nick Diaz training and some pretty decent interviews with him too. Carlos Condit i found mind numbingly dull though, and if he does manage to beat Stocktons finest, they’re going to have to work miracles to make the build up to Condit vs St.Pierre remotely entertaining.
sheikybaby - January 30, 2012
There was something terrifying about watching Condit… he’s a normal guy, with a normal family, taking care of his son, just like millions of dads… then, out of nowhere, he gets in a cage and he’s an absolute killer. It’s scary when you think about it. I don’t think there’s a more appropriate nickname in all of MMA than his: Natural Born Killer.
Shnak - January 30, 2012
Its funny when you said that, I couldn't help remembering...
That’s exactly how they used to hype Dan Severn back in the day, with his shitty grey T shirt of death. Total dork out of the cage, “the beast” in the cage. No point here, just reminiscing.
