UFC president Dana White has been feuding with the hacker collective Anonymous since last week when the UFC web site was hacked over their support of the controversial SOPA legislation. White challenged the "internet cowards" to do more and they have.
The latest casualty of the conflict is apparently a Richmond, CA police officer who tweeted in support of White:
"Get those hacking (expletive). I'm a cop in the bay area CA. (sic) I would go at them with both guns!" Mike Rood @Fan1UFC
Anonymous noticed the tweet a few days later and flooded the Richmond PD with complaints.
The San Jose Mercury News has more:
"In his tweet, he expresses his desire to use firearms to deal with problematic people," several posters wrote on the Contra Costa Times' Facebook page, apparently copying a form letter. "I fear for the safety of the citizens of Richmond after seeing such irresponsible action displayed by one of its very own police officers."
Richmond police Capt. Mark Gagan would not confirm the identity of the officer, citing state privacy protections, or discuss particulars of the case. He said the department received a flood of complaints beginning Monday evening.
"We are well aware of the response people have had to the situation," Gagan said. "We are opening an investigation, and we will get to the bottom of it. If there were policy violations, we will deal with it appropriately."

Dana White didn't cost this guy his job,
self- advocating police brutality in public did.
ElliotMatheny - January 31, 2012
Came here to say exactly that
There are approximately 1 billion other things to say that would show his support as a policeman.
halitosis - January 31, 2012
Wonder if Dana will throw him some free tickets after this...
lol, moron.

While you are entirely correct
I think people are seriously over reacting. I don’t think the guy is literally saying he would shoot them. I and most likely nearly everybody has said something along the lines of I’d kill this person or that person but said it as a figure of speech, not as something we in any way intended to do.
attgnp - January 31, 2012
1. The cop should not be disciplined. He’s clearly being attacked by wankers. “both guns” is an expression, it doesn’t mean he wants to go on a rampage.
2. How on earth is this Dana White’s fault?
outlander78 - January 31, 2012
this
I’m not what you’d call pro-cop, but this guy is using a well known metaphor, there’s almost no chance he means it literally.
some schmuck in texas - January 31, 2012
which is precisely why he should face some sort of discipline that isn’t too heavy, but he shouldn’t be fired. that being said, he fucked up regardless of whether or not he was on the clock.
Victor Rodriguez - January 31, 2012
Besides, all of these people “upset” are just Anon types trying to hype the situation. Do you think the average citizen in Richmond CA really gives a rats ass if a cop says he will go after internet felons with both guns? There will be more outrage if he does get fired (which he wont).
Hardy's in your face - January 31, 2012
Pretty much what I was thinking, but then, I’m hoping the Chief of Police is smart enough to differentiate between Anon and actual local citizens complaining. If I’m the COP in Richmond, I give two fucks what the non-local internet thinks.
RobtWeaver - January 31, 2012

Loose and slightly dumb talk
But fucking hell, ‘with both guns’ is a figure of speech!
some schmuck in texas - January 31, 2012
Not in california
When a cop here says he will come at you with both guns, hes not joking. Many many crooked cops out here and im sure many other places.
mikeI981j - January 31, 2012
Also. Richmond is not far from Oakland where a cop shot and killed a young man laying on the ground.
People are understandably extra sensitive about this sort of thing there.
Django Z - January 31, 2012
That happens all the time, the only difference is it was caught on camera phones. There was another one where a guy was shot for not paying his bus fare while trying to run away and they literally let him bleed to death on the sidewalk where everyone was just standing there and watching. Its online everywhere, it happened in san francisco, they might have taken the full version down but he was moving for a while then gasped for air and died, no ambulance no nothing.
mikeI981j - January 31, 2012
Here it is
the shorter version but it shows how graphic it was

menckenstein - January 31, 2012
Mike Rood sounds like a real winner...
He looks like he spends Saturdays drinking as much beer as his body will allow, then barfing all over himself. I wonder how many wrongful arrests this guy has. Judging from his reaction to these “fuckers”, I would assume he hates the whole “hippie, tree-hugger” scene that has engulfed the Bay Area.
I’m willing to bet large amounts of cash that this is the illegitimate father of Wes from Caged. He definitely hates grappling and would love to see more stand-ups. Jon Schorle is most certainly one of his best friends, perhaps a man he had a homoerotic adventure with in his teenage years. In any case, he probably attends state fairs regularly, which means he’ll be gone once my bill to have them blown to bits to weed out morons passes Congress. Good riddance.

This is basically what I was talking about
This stuff happens all the time.
A woman in New York was allegedly raped by two cops in New York when they supposedly helped her home after she was two drunk to walk.
I guess they faked 911 calls or something and returned to her apt a few times that night.
They both got away with it. Another cop in NY raped a school teacher on her way to work. He went to prison I believe,
TheFilt - January 31, 2012
two drunk
I need some lunch…
TheFilt - January 31, 2012
This winter, a NY state trooper ran a guy over with his truck at 2am after coming home from a bar (DWI)…..went home (hit and run) instead of reporting to police (leaving the scene of a crime), and had his girlfriend call in that there was a dead guy in the road (manslaughter).
The newspapers did everything they could to spin the story because the guy who got killed was a multiple DWI convict. The victim had no license so he was walking home from a night out and was struck and killed by the officer.
The police later determined that the hit-and-run trooper didn’t have to stop at the scene to report the incident because there was “nobody at the scene to report to”, so it wasn’t a hit-and-run (WHAT?)….when police finally came to the trooper’s house he “showed no signs of intoxication” (NO SOBRIETY TESTS?), and though they found evidence that the trooper ran over somebody, they couldn’t prove that the guy wasn’t dead already at the time of the accident. Possibly the worst part is that the entire time of the trial, the officer was on paid leave. Sickening.

But fat AND lunkheaded cops piss me off. Who is this guy? Is he part of the Richmond Cybercrime Division? Is he a technical wizard frustrated that his work against Anonymous is being thwarted? If I didn’t know better he’s a guy with a gun and a badge who probably likes to push people around with what little authority his piddling rank allows him to.

Having family and friends that are cops does not make me hate cops less. It makes me hate my family and friends more.
…always on the fucking take.

I had no idea
That Big Van Vader was a cop in Cali now. He really let himself go.
Times are getting rough.
HeadKickOfDoom - January 31, 2012
Vader rules.
vivero - January 31, 2012
Just saying "I would go at them...." is a threat
So of course he’s violating law, but policeman are one of the most protected and internalized brotherhoods in the world, so maybe he gets docked pay or something.
He should not be fired for this, though.
SSreporters - January 31, 2012

schm1583 - January 31, 2012
being a dumbfuck on twitter.
Earl Montclair - January 31, 2012
Criminal threat is well...against CA law
And context or not “both guns” implies weapons and you can’t even make a threat through the internet either
SSreporters - January 31, 2012
Fire him for this terrible twitter handle
inthepipes - January 31, 2012
Considering that protest have been violently broken up by police officers recently and that is sort of an issue in this country
Probably not the most intelligent thing ever.
discoandherpes - January 31, 2012

Oh my gosh a middle aged UFC fan boy. How further can we fall from the evolutionary ladder?
CollegeDropIn - January 31, 2012
who needs K-1 level striking when you have a whole K-9 unit?
mollcutpurse - January 31, 2012
i'd rather the cop not lose his job. that would make these hackers trolololol.
JayT86 - February 1, 2012
The (new) headline makes it sound as though taking Dana White’s side in the feud is what may cost the cop his job… when the reality is that it’s his stupidity that may cost the cop his job.
If he had said:
He’d also be on his way to losing his job… Joining Dana White’s side had absolutely nothing to do with what’s happening to him.
