According to a report, Ronda Rousey will get her wish and a Strikeforce title shot against Miesha Tate in March.
The most discussed women's MMA match since Gina Carano vs. Cristiane Santos has been booked for Strikeforce's March event in Columbus, OH, as 135-pound champion Miesha Tate will defend against Ronda Rousey. MMA Weekly reported the news Wednesday night, but there have been no confirmations from either side as of this writing.
Rousey (4-0) has risen to prominence by finishing all of her opponents by armbar in less than three minutes combined. The 2008 Olympic bronze medalist in judo asked for the Tate fight following her 39 second victory over Julia Budd in November, setting off a slew of social medial discussion on whether Rousey was ready and the state of women's MMA.
Tate (12-2) has won six in a row, but hasn't fought since defeating Marloes Coenen by fourth round submission in July 2011. It was expected at one point that Tate would defend her title against former champion Sarah Kaufman, but that fight never materialized. Kaufman (14-1) hasn't competed since winning a decision over Liz Carmouche in July.
On Twitter Wednesday night, Rousey said, "I haven't signed anything nothing is official everybody calm down" Wednesday while Tate alluded to the fight in some conversations with fans without any confirmation. The March event is expected to be on Saturday, March 3rd -- the same night as the Strikeforce Grand Prix Finals. With Strikeforce set to return to action this Saturday, a formal announcement could come this week.

But geez, I can’t believe Tate hasn’t fought since July. Strikeforce really don’t give a shit about womens fighting due to that kind of infrequency. Tate easily could have taken a fight with Kaufman but maybe the matchmakers didn’t want to risk a Kaufman win.
Anyway, I like both Tate and Royset, and via the Matt Hume and Gene LeBell connection there’s some catch wrestling lineage for both fighters, though both have very different games and training backgrounds.

They need to get more fights for their female fighters. Unfortunately due to the depth issues of WMMA, they run the risk of running out of match ups fairly quickly.
That said I feel bad for these women who are trying to make a living in Strikeforce only to fight once a year.

This is the first WMMA fight I’ve been excited about since Carano vs. Cyborg.
Winner fights Cyborg (i realy, really hope that it’s not a one sided beating).
You know, that said, I think that’s why women’s MMA doesn’t get much respect. Cristiane Santos is just way too dominant. Nobody can think of a single other woman who could possibly beat her. It’s like, “Cyborg’s the best. No other contenders. It’s over. Let’s all go home.”

but it’s not the RIGHT matchup. Rousey has never fought at 135, has zero wins over any truly good opponents… I mean, the list goes on.
You can like it all you want, I’m calling bullshit on the matchup. This kind of matchmaking from Zuffa reaffirms that they probably aren’t in it for the long haul with WMMA.

I’m not a fan of Ryan Reynolds or of that God awful movie, but if you are going to make a Green Lantern film, it has to be about Hal Jordan. He is THE iconic Lantern. Spongebob is legit. Some of those other cartoons look like some crazed, pyschedelic acid trip. I was watching cartoons with the kids the other day and they have this show called Adventure Time(?) and some show that has a fucking helium baloon as a teacher, the main characters are some type of…weird, colorful…rodents. I was still kinda :/ about that one cartoon about a year ago with the kid, pirates and talking whale. I’d like to say cartoons are weird as fuck nowadays, but I remember when my older sister hated for me and my nephew to watch Cow and Chicken, Rocko’s Modern Life and Ren and Stimpy. Cartoons of the 90’s and forward are off the wall though lol.

Now that we have an indication that this is the direction Zuffa is going with WMMA, Kaufman is going to have a tough time. Even when she gets her shot she won’t be the focus of the event at all, and if she wins the belt? I doubt Zuffa gives her much of a push. It also doesn’t help that she’s finished almost all of her fights EXCEPT those in Strikeforce (save Modafferi).She’s a great competitor though so hopefully she’ll get a decent fight soon and be able to get an impressive finish.

In some ways it seems almost inevitable.
Miesha is a good fighter and grappler, but Ronda is a born fighter and a proven world class grappler. Manny Gamburyan(a buff little dude) said he has serious trouble with her. Like she taps him kinda trouble.

That being said, this is a big match-up for WMMA. Probably could’ve waited until she had at least one fight off of the Challengers card… oh well. They’re both hot & extremely talented. I don’t think Miesha is gonna be the one to beat Ronda. Put her against a tough striker and then she’s got a problem.
