Former Ultimate Fighter winner Mac Danzig will apparently return to the cage in Montreal on March 24th, and it looks like he'll be facing off with a fellow TUF winner. Danzig tweeted about the proposed fight this afternoon:
Danzig coming off a hard-fought loss to Matt Wiman in their rematch at UFC on Versus 6 in October. Escudero came up short last weekend against Jacob Volkmann at UFC 141, but had him in major danger at the end of the fight and earned another shot in his second stint with the organization. This makes just the sixth time that two Ultimate Fighter winners have faced off. Danzig was involved in the most recent TUF winner battle as well when he knocked out Joe Stevenson at UFC 124.

This fight should be at FW
Not trying to denigrate their skills, but they’re struggling in the LW division
Robert V-U - January 5, 2012
Not just that
They look like they’re natural FWs.
av1o3 - January 5, 2012
Efrain can barely make the cut to lightweight.
BrothaDarkness - January 5, 2012
That's more because he was lazy
He wasn’t like Rumble or Alves when they miss weight (Completely drawn out), he always looked like he just had too many cheeseburgers.
av1o3 - January 6, 2012
Why am I interested in seeing this?
T.C. Engel - January 5, 2012
Because it's a B-level fighter in Danzig getting a chance to improve upon his
Recent performances all while taking Escudero out of the UFC for a 2nd time. It would also mean the entire TUF 8 LW cast would no longer be in the UFC in just 3.5 years.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
I actually think Efrain's gonna win though. What the actual fuck brain.
T.C. Engel - January 5, 2012
Your brain is too hyped up thinking about Andrew Luck
Escudero is hopeless standing bar one flash KO and Danzig has fought better recently against better competition.
Mac also has more than enough on the ground to cope with Efrain’s ground skills and submission game.
If the UFC really wants to push the Mexican market, they should just move Efrain to 145 and have him fight Leonard Garcia instead of that squash match against the Mongolian-Chinese guy.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
I’ve actually got Escudero in that fight too. Mac’s skills on the ground are overrated, and Efrain will have a lot of reach on him.
Tim Burke - January 5, 2012
Zhang's gonna punish Garcia
halitosis - January 5, 2012 via mobile
Surely you're not serious.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
Completely so.
His striking is worlds ahead of Garcia’s and he’s small enough where the judges will even go “wow, he REALLY missed that one!”
People look at Zhang as a one trick pony, but that’s on the ground.
halitosis - January 5, 2012 via mobile
If this ends up being true I think we need to hail you a prophet
Because that sure as shit would end Garcia’s run in the UFC…unless he decides to WAR.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
Stop calling him Shirley.
Paulo Filho's Psychiatrist - January 6, 2012
You can't actually believe that/
T.C. Engel - January 5, 2012
+1
Diz D - January 6, 2012
And still somehow lose
Garcia by SD
Holls Hoyce - January 6, 2012
Luck:
I read an article on ESPN saying that the Colts would be stupid to draft Luck over Griffin. Fuck do people go crazy for momentum.
T.C. Engel - January 5, 2012
HANDS OFF GRIFFIN!
He’s Seattle’s! Either that or we sign Matt Flynn. Jackson is a useless starting QB.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
Dude, Griffin isn't falling to you.
You guys pick like… Twelfth? He’ll be gone in the top six or seven, they’d definitely need to trade up. Flynn is gonna get franchised and traded, he’ll cost a second rounder, whether he’s worth it or not. And I agree about Jackson, I can’t understand why people keep thinking they can use him as a serviceable starter.
T.C. Engel - January 5, 2012
We're picking 11th or 12th depending on the coin flip with KC
We totally have to trade up but we don’t have enough talent to merit swapping anything other than 1st rounders in future seasons.
Jackson is a good backup, terrible starter. With the game on the line and facing 4th and 2 with no timeouts the dumbass actually threw the ball out of bounds because he was under pressure.
We’re screwed with him as starter next year, so it’s up to PC to correct that. So pissed Barkley did not declare.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
I never saw him throw it out on fourth, that’s fuckin hilarious. And brutal, I feel bad for you guys. Barkley’s going to be fuckin awesome, I watched more PAC-12 this year than others, and I was almost as impressed with him as I am with Luck. Barkley definitely could’ve fallen to you and he’d be fantastic.
T.C. Engel - January 5, 2012
Well, Roop is around at featherweight.
Jeffrey McCrum - January 6, 2012
colour me confused, i thought it meant these guys were dropping to fw. damn event numbers.. i cant wait til ufc 267 when i wont need to worry about this
hewsdaddy - January 5, 2012
UFC 267 will still confuse you
When Anthony Johnson fights Wilson Gouveia at a 267 lbs catchweight.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
And UFC 185
Headlined by GSP
halitosis - January 5, 2012 via mobile
...But against Rashad Evans!
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
No silly
Chael…
…
…fresh off his guillotine loss and subsequent winning of the light heavyweight championship in his fight with Jon Jones.
halitosis - January 5, 2012 via mobile
Dude
It’s going to be Chris Weidman
….After his stunning submission win over Anderson Silva
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
You mean Wanderlei Silva
After he took uber Rumble off the middleweight throne and defended once against Paul Harris
halitosis - January 5, 2012 via mobile
No I'm pretty sure it's Shields
After Jake moves up to MW and pulls off an upset submission win over Demian Maia before decisioning Anderson Silva with his ADCC level striking and jab-heavy gameplan.
The highly anticipated rematch ensues.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
No, no
Roy Nelson submitted Maia in his middleweight debut. Then he used Steven Seagal as a (perfect) camp spy and learned that Anderson wanted to strike with him. Then he beat him by standing guillotineplex with only one arm trapped. It was submissionknockout of the year.
halitosis - January 5, 2012 via mobile
Anderson might think he’s Above The Law, but Nelson and his Shadow Man have made an Executive Decision to put Anderson right in the Belly Of The Beast. He’s on Deadly Ground against A Dangerous Man.
Tedd Welch - January 5, 2012
I see what you did there
jthin - January 6, 2012
danzig would be better if he ate some meat
if he loses probably get cut, efaaaaraaain might get another shot if his lucky
four20 - January 5, 2012
Come onnnnnnnnnn Danzig!
SanFranpsycho - January 5, 2012
A bit off topic but
Where in the world has Joe Stevenson gone? I know he lost 4 in a row and got cut. But he’s been completely off the map since he lost in…. July?
Ricardo Arguello - January 5, 2012
He hasn't fought since
Honestly I think he’s a shot fighter. Which is sad because he’s 29 but he looked so bad in his last three fights.
SSreporters - January 5, 2012
well yeah, I know that. But theres has been no news of him signing anywhere else, retiring or whatever. I find it a bit odd he’s been out of the news for 6 months.
Ricardo Arguello - January 5, 2012
I remember reading he signed with Warrior 1 or w1 , it was announced on the card Davis fought Chuck O’neil.
tremblay6 - January 5, 2012 via mobile
From what I’ve gathered, he’s taking time off and being a dad. He is a big-time family man, and he’s earned a ton of money form the UFC, not just in salary, but a ton of bonuses. He seems to have been smart with his money and is just chilling for now.
BVandDietPepsi - January 6, 2012
how does that make sense
When he was forced to go to Mexico for knee surgery bc he didn’t have enough money to do it stateside?
OneFitchTwoFitchRedFitchBlueFitch - January 6, 2012 via mobile
I think I heard on junkie radio he was going to fight in KOTC again.
mburtoni - January 6, 2012
Sneaky Danzig
Trying to misguide us from guessing you’re fighting Efrain by saying you were fighting a tough fighter.
DCJon. - January 5, 2012
This is one of those rare fights where I don't know who to root against.
Because I don’t particularly care for either.
Zachary Kater - January 5, 2012
In a...
Loser leaves town….um I mean….goes to StrikeForce
BrothaDarkness - January 5, 2012
yeah cause that happens all the time with low level UFC guys that just got cut
Robert V-U - January 6, 2012
UFC, Strikeforce, and Showtime have had a new deal for exactly five days. Things are different now.
BVandDietPepsi - January 6, 2012
I have Escudero winning this one, especially if he uses his wrestling.
chrisbboy82 - January 5, 2012
Danzig subs him.
Earl Montclair - January 6, 2012
Danzig by Kimura in the 2nd to be precise
pridedaze09 - January 6, 2012
Efrain comes ready to game, with a full training camp and the mentality that he’s fighting for a job, you’re gonna see the Efrain that won TUF 8, not the Efrain that chunked up and tapped out
Robert V-U - January 6, 2012
I’m thinking I’ll see the Efrain that showed up for the Volkman fight IMO. I’m almost certain Danzig scores a Kimura/Armbar from the bottom.
pridedaze09 - January 6, 2012
Efrain took the Volkman fight on late notice, did not have a chance to sufficiently prepare his TDD. Mac isn’t gonna be able to take him down, and if he manages to outstrike him, Efrain will take him down
Robert V-U - January 6, 2012
Both are gate keepers
They both have a cocky smirk on their faces when fightn, which is just irritating to me. At least 1 of em will be cut.
Hankverdee - January 6, 2012 via mobile
but Danzig is quite the photographer in his spare time.
They’re both also very funny looking.
pridedaze09 - January 6, 2012
it cut out the part of my comment where it said
" At least
butDanzig is quite the photographer in his spare time."pridedaze09 - January 6, 2012
I still can’t believe Mac knocked out Joe Daddy. I know it’s old news, but if I had to pick anyone to KO a tough guy like Joe, it would definitly not be Mac…
Dustin Luff - January 6, 2012
I hope Danzig wins
I like him for some reason.
Tats16 - January 6, 2012
So do I. Always liked him, from TUF when he was dominating much bigger guys than him (Jesse Taylor, in particular). I don’t understand why people hate him, he always delivers, and his last fight against Wiman was excellent. Not to mention the great knockout on Stevenson! How can people not like Danzig after that KO?!
Shnak - January 6, 2012
I predict a bad kickboxing match.
BrothaDarkness - January 6, 2012
Danzig should roll him, but I was hoping he'd get Volkman.
Snatchl - January 6, 2012
Is Joe Daddy still with Zuffa?
fightersvizion - January 6, 2012 via mobile
Nope.
He got cut.
The Armchair Juggernaut - January 6, 2012 via mobile
I got Danzig by submission.
Escudero has never really impressed me. He gets stopped in the 2nd.
The Armchair Juggernaut - January 6, 2012 via mobile
The strange thing is
that Mac Danzig seemed to me back in TUF a great fighter with lots of skills lots of determination and lots of will to win. He fought greatly so i could never really understand what happenned to him or were their opponents so much better than him inside the UFC??
I dont know who Matt Wiman lost to back in TUF … he didnt seem a big deal so i m glad for his career now..
Efrain.. I think he should go down a weightclass. He has much spirit but his drawback is, that he needs time to employ his tactics he is the 2-3 round fighter and some of his opponents use this against him. But he won his last 5 bouts outside the UFC, which Danzig cant tell so i really hope for Efrain and will be glad to watch this fight
szanpan - January 6, 2012
Well, Danzig’s faced some very good competition in the UFC… Bocek, Guida, Neer, Jim Miller, Buchholz, Wiman, Stevenson, Wiman again. Many forget he submitted Bocek. That’s a very good win.
When you look at his losses, Guida, Neer, Jim Miller, Wiman (x2). You could make the argument that he should’ve beaten Neer, but still, he’s never an easy opponent.
Let’s see who of Mac and Efrain wants to stay in the UFC the most… the loser definitely will be let go unless it’s an incredible fight. I think it’s a good fight, and I’m very interested in watching it. Good fight for a Fuel TV prelim.
Shnak - January 6, 2012
I am looking forward to this because, at the very least, it’s a competitive fight. No clear cut favorite here. Makes it more interesting for me.
