Breaking into our top five on the 2012 World MMA Welterweight Scouting Report, France's Nordine Taleb (6-1) is the first to grace the upper-tier of our countdown. The 30-year-old Tristar fight team member is riding an impressive five-fight winning streak, capping off his 2011 in stunning fashion by zapping UFC veteran Pete Sell with a beautiful right cross counter to win the Ring of Combat welterweight crown in November.
The 6'3" fighter is a monstrosity at welterweight, possessing a physically superior frame that dwarfs most of his opposition. He uses those gifts to manhandle opponents, driving them into the fence to bombard their midsections with a steady diet of knees. If his opponents don't falter from his Muay Thai assault, Taleb isn't without other means to winning a fight.
From range, Taleb possesses a skillful striking attack. Combined with intelligent footwork, he's elusive and tough to nail down as evidenced by his evasion of Pete Sell's punches at Ring of Combat 38. Conversely, the same quickness allows him to counter with speed and ferocity. If his opponents happen to get sloppy in their pursuit, Taleb is great at changing levels, burying his adversary into the canvas, and finishing with a devastating ground and pound attack.
Similarly to Jouban, Taleb is no spring chicken. He's 30 years old and coming into his own as a top prospect at a late stage in his athletic career. That isn't to say he can't succeed well into his late 30's, but it's uncommon in most sports. The prime physical shape he's in combined with the training he's receiving at Tristar gym in Montreal make one believe he'll continue to progress however. With a well-balanced attack and overwhelming power, there isn't a promotion that wouldn't love to have Nordine Taleb fighting for them in 2012.

You should check out Raul Amaya
Because honestly, if he doesn’t make this list…again…you might need to look a little deeper. He is 9-0, 3 wins by TKO, 6 by submission and he is 26. He is the AOF welterweight champ and I know from someone on the inside that if he defends his AOF title he is going to the UFC. His nickname is “Beast Mode” for a reason.

Looked at him. Not impressed.
A.) His manager must be terrible as he has a lot of fights that aren’t online, that really hurts our ability to evaluate him.
B.) His strength of record is terrible: 29-44-2
C.) Needs to move to a top camp.
D.) Needs to fight better competition
E.) And here’s this hilarious video where his chin is higher than almost every fighter I’ve ever seen grace a cage, yet he somehow wins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIWWkHFaR2M
His technique is poor on the feet. Seriously, next time you want to make a suggestion… try watching some footage. I’m sick and tired of people referencing undefeated records like they matter. They don’t.

In fairness that video is his first ever fight. But yeah, his strength of competition is pretty awful.
This Nordine Taleb guy is getting a push, he has a pretty professional looking website

Furthermore...
Have you seen the other guys?
Hernani would box the living shit out of Raul Amaya. I mean, it wouldn’t even be close. Thompson could KO him quick. Santos would outlast him. Bahari would find his chin. The list goes on and on. Seriously, where did you come up with this terrible assessment? Oh, that’s right. He’s 9-0, that must be it.
Leland Roling - January 7, 2012
Agreed.
Ben Thapa - January 7, 2012
Isn’t he in the Bellator tournament?
smoogy2 - January 7, 2012
Why if this guy is from montreal does he have a french flag next to his name
TLow - January 7, 2012 via mobile
French Canadian??
CaptainKneebar - January 7, 2012
He’s from France originally. Trains at Tristar now.
Leland Roling - January 7, 2012
Use the right flag tabernac.
Ubernoober - January 7, 2012
I did use the right flag.
Leland Roling - January 7, 2012
In that case I’m an idiot. Carry on.
Ubernoober - January 7, 2012
He has a really cool name
StevenGiles - January 7, 2012
Yawn
Oh look, another foreign prospect that will never amount to anything.
I’ll give a pass since most of the good prospects were reviewed last year. And it’s been a down year for up and coming wrestlers in the US.

Is this guy actually a welterweight?
I don’t believe it
