After dealing with a shoulder injury, UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has returned to training according to physiotherepist Angela Cortez. Silva is likely to face the winner of the fight between Mark Munoz and Chael Sonnen in his next title defense.
"Anderson's shoulder is doing very well. He did a great job these past months and is doing well, with the postural part being excellent. He's well, he feels no more pain and is back in training. Now he only needs to improve on his physical condition. He's 100%. I believe he'll be announcing his next fight soon enough."
With talk of retirement after just two more fights for Silva before a possible retirement his health is a very important factor. 2012 may be the last year that we see Silva in the cage (although I doubt that turns out to be the case) so here's hoping he heads into his next bout with a fully healed shoulder.

AwkwardwithwordmakingisGoldberg,huhJoe - January 7, 2012
Lets go andy
4 more years!
C.A.M. - January 7, 2012
Ya, I thought just a few months ago he stated he wasn't planning on retiring anytime soon?
I have no idea but to me Anderson sounds like someone who wants to retire soon just to preserve his record.
Syncro - January 7, 2012
Wasn't most of that retirement talk coming from Cold Soares?
UncleMax - January 7, 2012
If I remember correct yes it was
Soares was saying 2 more fights and AS himself was saying something like 6-7 more fights or 4 years….. This was also about the time that AS said he was thinking about changing management too.

it’s almost a moot point now, soon mma fans will be like an entire generation holding onto their Beetles LPs, Sure the beetles are still massive but they have 6 inches of lint on them
liptondrift - January 7, 2012
Lint?
Dust?

I'd say the Rumble vs. Phenom winner
After that, I will continue praying for Silva to fight John Jones, but it won’t happen… sadly…
aTn - January 7, 2012
I’d say Rumble gets a shot if he violently finishes Belfort. I don’t see Belfort getting another shot anytime soon, especially if Andy only has a fight or 2 left before retirement.

Bisping/Maia winner.
Gracchus - January 7, 2012
I’d say Bisping gets a shot if he wins but not Maia. I don’t think anyone is interested in that rematch.

Sweet. WAR Silva!

Don't Forget About Hendo
He’s in the MW mix still for some reason
Green Naugahyde - January 7, 2012
I don't know
I don’t see Hendo making the cut anymore. The dude’s pushing 80 and has been performing great at 205. Would not mind seeing Hendo/ Jones.
soilworker - January 7, 2012
Give Bisping a shot
I would love to see him destroyed and embarrassed.
fightersvizion - January 7, 2012 via mobile
He literally couldn't do any worse than Forrest Griffin
YPG - January 7, 2012
can you imagine
how awesome that would be seeing that happen to Bisping
in my opinion it would be fun

I still hope Anderson Silva retires sooner rather than later
At 37 years old, he’s way past due to take a nosedive athletically speaking. Speed and quickness is the first thing to go, and when it happens, it happens seemingly overnight. For a fighter like Andy who relies so heavily on quickness defensively, that’s the end.
I really hope he retires before we see the result of that loss of athleticism. In the case of someone with a legacy like Silva has, it’s better to retire a little bit early than a little bit late.

I can't help but wonder if this surgery is the first step there
I don’t know what it was in his shoulder that needed surgery, but it seems like the kind of recovery that could affect him long term.
I hope I’m wrong though
troyd - January 7, 2012
Same here with that sentiment.
I really don’t wanna see another all time great especially of Silva’s caliber go down in flames like that. It just wouldn’t seem right.
doomrider7 - January 7, 2012
Anderson Silva quitting
Quitting while you’re ahead is not the same thing as quitting.
If Silva is not the same fighter as he was pre-surgery, just retire. Thanks for the fights AS
Ben Bauman - January 7, 2012
Really? He will be announcing?
More like his opponent will be announced on the evening of Jan 28th.
evenflow10 - January 7, 2012 via mobile
I think he meant he'd be announcing when he'll be returning.
MMA Boss - January 7, 2012 via mobile
Man up and fight Jones!
RooBeN - January 7, 2012 via Android app
Why does he need to fight Jones?
Anderson doesn’t really need to prove anything at this point.
MicahtheCynic - January 7, 2012
he certainly has nothing to prove
but it would be interesting
