The UFC returns to the big time with it's second live card on Fox on January 28th. Instead of just one fight on the main card, they will go with three this time. The televised card also includes two excellent middleweight fights, with Chael Sonnen and Mark Munoz facing off in a probable number one contender's bout, and Michael Bisping meeting Demian Maia. Here's the whole card (prelims after the jump):

Munoz and Davis
better not mess up the fights I wanna see later in the year.
ScoreCardOTN - January 8, 2012
I hope they do.
Bisping/Maia a darkhorse to shake up the division.
SSreporters - January 8, 2012
i think maia should take this
benten20 - January 9, 2012
Maybe not. Bisping has a decent td defense. He might pepper punch his way to a ud.
vivero - January 9, 2012 via mobile
I definitely think Maia can put him down
If Mayhem could do it, I think Maia can take him down and control him for two rounds.
discoandherpes - January 9, 2012
Shad, Maia, MUNOZ.
mma.ly - January 8, 2012
Man, this main card is better than the UFC 142 PPV
SSreporters - January 8, 2012
I’m loving the fact the card that I’d pay for is free and the 142 ppv is the one I’d skip
terzergoss - January 8, 2012 via mobile
16-1-1
exsanguinator - January 8, 2012
I was thinking the same thing.
b2tharad - January 8, 2012
Thanks.
Tim Burke - January 8, 2012
Phil Davis
Looks like a mix of B.o.B. and Kid Kudi
halitosis - January 8, 2012 via mobile
He doesn't look like Cudi at all.
T.C. Engel - January 8, 2012
They do share one trait that's important, according to him.
pdl - January 8, 2012
you mean explosiveness and athleticism?
Victor Rodriguez - January 8, 2012
Cudi:
T.C. Engel - January 8, 2012
Davis has the same head proportion as Cudi
And a similar face to B.o.B.
halitosis - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Have you ever said two white guys looked alike because of head proportion?
Bolshevik - January 8, 2012
yes, haven't you?
Chris Hall - January 8, 2012
All I know is if I ever meet Mike Goldberg I’m going to suggest he looks like Jerry Seinfeld.
Bolshevik - January 8, 2012
No
But it can be applied to white people as well
halitosis - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Tito has a big head.
Not relevant, just pointing that out.
Andy Anderson - January 8, 2012
cootie?
Victor Rodriguez - January 8, 2012
haha Kid Cootie
someone should make a video of that thing rapping “Day n Night”
Sean in Vancouver - January 9, 2012
I absolutely love it when people say a black person looks like another black person that looks nothing like them.
Hendo_One-Shot - January 8, 2012
i may be wrong, but I think there's an actual reason for that
Like a genetic/racial reason. Blacks look the same to whites, whites look the same to blacks, asians look the same to us, we look the same to them….
I could be wrong so don’t get mad.
Farthammer - January 9, 2012
Could be. I grew up around nothing but black people so I can’t speak for anyone in a different situation, but they look nothing alike to me. Don’t see how you could see a similarity.
Hendo_One-Shot - January 9, 2012
you know why he’s saying this come on…..
i agree though im black and white people dont look the same because mullets and mutton chops dont work on every white guy they just dont
Mac Marley - January 9, 2012
I used to think Asian people mostly looked the same, now I do a good bit of work in China and other Asian countries and I don’t understand how I used to think that – the differences are as obvious as with anyone else now.
t-ha - January 9, 2012
JOE's bout to get his first UFC win
Carwin better watch out!
Chris Hall - January 8, 2012

Sugel Mendoza - January 9, 2012

Mac Marley - January 9, 2012
...
Sugel Mendoza - January 9, 2012
Sonnen and Munoz isn’t for the belt?
Afrotikiman - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Its Sonnen's 3rd title defense.
The Lethal Haze - January 8, 2012
Beating Anderson doesn't count as a defense
halitosis - January 8, 2012 via mobile
he was defeding his WEC belt.
The Lethal Haze - January 8, 2012
I legit LOL'd at that.
That was actually Chael level trolling.
pdl - January 8, 2012
Go Demian!
Henrique - January 8, 2012
How glorious would it be if he submits Bisping via triangle.
vivero - January 9, 2012 via mobile
Maia has forgotten all about his submission game… he thinks he’s a “K-1 level” striker nowadays…
Shnak - January 9, 2012
i want maia to win and have a rematch with sonnen to shut his mouth with another triangle
benten20 - January 9, 2012
that would be hilarious id pay my life saving just to see chaels face again if he doesnt lose against munoz, maia, or anderson either one will do
Mac Marley - January 9, 2012
Nega Alves fighting 3 times in this card
Henrique - January 8, 2012
I don't know they're letting him cut to bantamweight
halitosis - January 8, 2012 via mobile
He had surgery
To remove his unnecessarily large chest. That cut is going to be easy now
av1o3 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Chests are never unnecessarily large
IRodC - January 8, 2012
look up Parton, Dolly.
Victor Rodriguez - January 8, 2012
After Sonnen/Munoz
Who gets the next shot? You have Bisping/Maia (not interested in the latter), Tree Stump, and Belfort/Rumble.
Thoughts?
rockyman500 - January 8, 2012
Harris vs. bisping
HAS to happen.
av1o3 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
I believe Dana said it was going to be Bisping/Maia.
TheLastEmpress - January 8, 2012
am i the only one sick enough to want to see Palhares/Bisping?
Victor Rodriguez - January 8, 2012
evidently not...
I think belcher is gonna get palhares
Luke Nelson - January 8, 2012 via iPhone app
Great match
Belcher is pretty decent and Palhares has potential to hold a belt wants he check the crazy…..or goes full retard.
If Maia wins and sonnen beats both munoz and silva I wanna see a rematch.
Maia could hold gold. Odd.
cager - January 9, 2012
Love the main events
- Rashad 2.0 via TKO
- I want Munoz to win, however Chael has shown he has good boxing to supplement his granite chin and imposing wrestling, Munoz’s wrestling hasn’t exactly transitioned to the most effective stuff in the cage.. Chael will win this via decision
- Bisping will frustrate Maia to a decision
elmojo - January 8, 2012
I don't know why people think Rashad is completely different now
He beat Tito Ortiz who accepted the fight on like a one week notice. Not that impressive when you remember that.
av1o3 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
different or not
rashad has always been a beast, and i think he’s the most motivated when people doubt his abilities, i thought 2.0 was impressive as hell just the way he completely dominated tito and made him look like nothing
elmojo - January 8, 2012
his standup is significantly better. his jiu-jitsu/submission game has allegedly improved with the people he’s surrounded himself with.
Victor Rodriguez - January 8, 2012
His submission game has improved?
Great news. That means he might finally attempt a submission in the UFC.
pdl - January 8, 2012
Rashad Evans has 0 submission attempts in the UFC
And there is no evidence his stand-up is significantly better. I mean, Tito Ortiz’s striking is pathetic.
SSreporters - January 9, 2012
Tito has strength
Rashad over powered him badly, he dumped him on his back like he was fighting a featherweight, so if anything we saw how explosive and strong rashad can get
elmojo - January 9, 2012
Tito is about 543 years old
Why is this comparison even being made?
SSreporters - January 9, 2012
because he flattened and choked out bader propelling himself into relevancy again?
before Rashad sent him back to the depths of retirement
elmojo - January 9, 2012
and 543 isnt even a possible age to live to with tito’s head soooo
Mac Marley - January 9, 2012
Rashad Evans is 16-1-1
He hasn’t lost twice.
He’s 16-Machida-Ortiz
unambig - January 8, 2012
16-2-1? Why are they trying to fade Rashad?
TheLastEmpress - January 8, 2012
psychobait
Tedd Welch - January 8, 2012
I sincerely want to hear psychoblack’s take on the main event.
Bolshevik - January 8, 2012
yea wtf has he been? im tired of being the token black guy we need real black men here for this one
Mac Marley - January 9, 2012
I'm black
Rashad takes this no problem
Cunny - January 9, 2012
Nice Card
I need to get cable and stop making SOPA angry.
Davis by submission in the second. Talks of Jones vs Davis explode.
Munoz by KO in the first. Alot of early ko’s lately and i feel like the bug is still out there. Dislike sonnens talk but want him to rematch Silva.
Maia by submission round 1 rear naked after rockin bisping like he’s nothing.
Palhares waits patiently…
cager - January 8, 2012
I believe that
Those are the 3 most unlikely of outcomes.
mistake4 - January 8, 2012 via mobile
Maybe
But Davis by submission? I could see that definately, he has the skills and I havn’t seen Rashad juijitsu tested.
Munoz has KO power and if Fitch can get ko’d so can Sonnen.
Maia is an unlikely nuthuggery call.
cager - January 9, 2012
I’m not saying that shad couldn’t be subbed, but I don’t recall a fight where he has even been close to any danger of being submitted. I’m convinced chael is next to impossible to knock out (sub is a different story tho obviously) and I think we would ALL like to see maia choke out bisping.
mistake4 - January 9, 2012 via mobile
Rashad has never fought somebody
with better wrestling than him. We have no idea how Rashad will react being on his back.
av1o3 - January 9, 2012
Fitch had been KO’d twice before in his career… not that surprising that he got KO’d, really. Sonnen has never been KO’d, and took a few good shots from Anderson Silva that barely fazed him. Munoz won’t be able to KO Sonnen with his sloppy standup.
Shnak - January 9, 2012
THIS
If Anderson “laser guided” Silva did not KO Sonnen, I seriously doubt Munoz will. Nothing is ever impossible, especially in MMA, but I would not coach Munoz in that direction. Considering Sonnen’s handling of both Marquardt and Stann, I think he decisions this fight pretty easily.
Munoz should concentrate on stuffing Sonnen’s takedowns, work standup, and look for a submission, especially a standing guillotine.
RobtWeaver - January 9, 2012
Rashad outpoints Davis to a unanimous victory
Bisping squeaks by Maia because Damien can’t keep him down.
Sonnen lays on Munoz for three rounds.
All judges decisions.
unambig - January 9, 2012
Maia was able to toss Sonnen like nothing. His takedowns are underrated.
av1o3 - January 9, 2012
In the clinch
His shot leaves much to be desired. Bisping will probably try to maintain distance with his jab.
Pantherhare - January 9, 2012
fuck SOPA
infuriate them
Cunny - January 9, 2012
Rashad by TKO, Chael by UD, Maia by submission
Bolshevik - January 8, 2012
Chael’s really has to dig down against Munoz. Mark might negate his wrestling. Should be a good match when both of them attempts to td each other.
vivero - January 9, 2012 via mobile
Chael is going to fuck Munoz up and submit him late.
Earl Montclair - January 9, 2012
Ha!
I’d LOVE to see that…
Atomic Salmon - January 9, 2012
Chael’s really has to dig down against Munoz. Mark might negate his wrestling. Should be a good match when both of them attempts to td each other.
vivero - January 9, 2012 via mobile
I think Munoz’s plan will probably be sprawl and brawl. He hits really god damn hard.
I like the idea of Chael’s main weapon getting negated and Munoz just beats on him for three rounds.
MicahtheCynic - January 9, 2012
Chael has better standup though
Afrotikiman - January 9, 2012 via mobile
lol not at all
Munoz’s stand up was bad but it has improved after every fight. Chael’s stand up is slow and predictable.
av1o3 - January 9, 2012
Chael dropped Anderson Silva
I got him winning if they are on the feet.
discoandherpes - January 9, 2012
Chael Sonnen rocked Anderson Silva once and knocked him down once. Suck it haters.
Tim Bernier - January 9, 2012 via mobile
That did happen
but it was obvious something was wrong with Anderson in that fight. Even Chael was shocked that he knocked down Silva.
Munoz is going to pull a Hendricks in this fight.
av1o3 - January 9, 2012
Fixed.
MicahtheCynic - January 9, 2012
You make it sound as though Sonnen wouldn’t have rocked Anderson Silva had it not been for the supposed rib injury…
Shnak - January 9, 2012
Huh?
Did Sonnen punch him in the ribs? Unless Silva had a broken face, then I fail to see how that caused him to drop after the shot to the face.
Atomic Salmon - January 9, 2012
As long as they dig
I’m a happy camper.
cager - January 9, 2012
King Mo vs Davis?
keep the hair ‘shuga’
Tatsu Maki Sen Puu Kyaku - January 9, 2012
Might not be the best card for FOX.
I think all 3 fights have a rather big likelihood of going to a dec.
I got
Evans via UD
Sonnen via TKO 3rd
Bisping via UD
KOQ24 - January 9, 2012
looks like rashad's been hitting the nerve tonic again
woooburn - January 9, 2012
Good card for FOX
I think these are some careful picks, meant to showcase the more “mainstream” side of MMA.
Rashad & Davis can be counted on to be explosive, whether throwing haymakers or slick transitions and wrestling defense. I seriously doubt there’d be any lay and pray between these two. I give Rashad an edge for his experience and having fought higher level opponents.
Sonnen & Munoz I see a lot like Rashad & Davis, only a slightly higher chance for boring wrestling on the mat. The more time these two spend on their feet, the more the casual fan will enjoy the fight. I think Sonnen will have an easier time of controlling Munoz than Evans will with Davis.
Bisping & Maia should also be fast-paced. I hate Bisping the person, but as a fighter, I have to respect how busy he stays, how much movement he utilizes until he spies a weakness. Maia too easily loses his game plan and fights the other fighter’s fight, and Bisping is exactly the kind of fighter to capitalize on that. I don’t see this as an easy fight for either one, but I give the edge to Bisping for executing his game plan better and for his very solid BJJ defense.
The rest of the card shapes up a bit more predictably; again, I see the majority of these fights being picked for excitement and casual fan interest. Lentz & Dunham should be very technical, no lay and pray; Roller & Johnson should bang, you KNOW Einemo and Russow will bang, and Joey Beltran will either deliver or receive a dynamic knockout. Swanson & Roop will be very fast paced…will Swanson win the stand up?
This isn’t just a good card; it’s a good card to put on FOX.
RobtWeaver - January 9, 2012
heres my thoughts on your thoughts
I agree with you on your rashad pick and sonnen as well even though I want munoz to win. However I disagree with you on the bisping pick. Mayhem was able to take down and control bisping for a round and Maia is worlds ahead of mayhem in grappling skills and has better takedowns to. I honestly believe Maia can take down and control bisping en route to a UD if not pulling out a submission along the way. Lentz can definitely make his fight lay and prey, and when was the last time beltran got knocked out? He’s like the terminator.
