It seems that Brandon Vera wants another shot at Thiago Silva. Silva beat Vera down at UFC 125 and initially won a lopsided decision, but the fight was switched to a no-contest after Silva knowingly submitted a fake urine sample. Silva's suspension recently ended, and it didn't take The Truth long to get wind of it:
He did the editing there, not me. Vera was initially cut by the UFC after the loss, but was given a reprieve after Silva was suspended. Vera returned to the octagon at UFC137 and faced Eliot Marshall. He controlled the first two rounds, but Marshall dominated the third and had Vera in a nasty armbar that actually broke Vera's arm. Vera persevered to the final bell though, and while a lot of people thought Marshall should have been given a 10-8 round for the third and the fight should have been a draw, Vera was declared the victor via unanimous decision.
Is a Vera/Silva rematch a good idea for Thiago's return? When would Vera even be ready to fight? My guess is that Silva will be given someone higher up the depth chart than Vera, but who knows at this point.

No thank you
TMadeBurner - January 9, 2012
Vera should call out someone who he can actually beat
daftshadow - January 9, 2012
why?
i for one appreciate the ballsy callout, instead of everyone angling for fights they think they are going to win a la brandon schaub.
Clifford J - January 9, 2012
Because Vera has no momentum
He got cut and uncut after the Silva fight
Wasn’t too convincing in his last fight
He needs a fight he can win as opposed
Cunny - January 9, 2012
...to one where he'll get bombed on horribly
Cunny - January 9, 2012
i would like to see him beaten up badly
it would do him good maybe? I think he seriously thinks he is still a hot prospect
szanpan - January 10, 2012
I don’t see this fight going down any differently from the first – if it is to happen, of course.
Unless ring-rust plays a major factor with Thiago, I see Vera getting man-handled again before being issued his walking papers from the UFC.
@KatanaClothing - January 9, 2012
Brandon Vera couldn't beat diminshed Randy "Liberty Mutual" Couture
He will get turned into a drum again because Silva will cycle smarter this time.
menckenstein - January 9, 2012
In many people’s eyes, Vera should have been given that decision.
Tim Burke - January 9, 2012
In any seeing persons eyes
Brandon Vera won that fight. Even Randy basically said he should have won. He said something like “I’m not sure what the judges are looking at”
Hashmo - January 9, 2012
I meant beat literally, not spar harder than.
That fight was atrocious.
menckenstein - January 9, 2012
Randy crumpled from Vera's body kick
That’s a lot more beating than your average decision in the UFC.
This is the type of fight where the 10-9 system, and not the judging, was the problem. Randy squeaking out the tiniest amount of positional dominance in rounds 1 and 3 should not be worth more than Vera’s substantial damage in round 2.
paythefighters - January 9, 2012
Maybe by Pride criteria but you have to judge the rounds individually in the 10 point must crap
menckenstein - January 9, 2012
If people gave more 10-10 rounds
Then this wouldn’t be a problem. If two people have the exact same amount of offense except one person gets in an extra punch or two, it should still be 10-10. We’d see fewer bad decision in my opinion, even if we’d see more draws in 3 round fights.
Chromium - January 9, 2012
aye
Cory Braiterman - January 9, 2012
10-9 Couture
10-9 Vera
10-9 Couture
MattParker117 - January 9, 2012
In many people's eyes, Vera lost his decision to Elliot Marshall....
I’m in agreement to a lot of people here, Silva would eat Vera alive…… again…..
jack knight starman - January 9, 2012
I could see a draw
But not really Marshall winning.
discoandherpes - January 9, 2012
you obviously didn’t see that fight. There is no way Handy won.
phantom5691 - January 9, 2012
As stated above I meant literally beat, not barely outpoint in the worst fight of either man's career
menckenstein - January 9, 2012
I think Silva would win just the same as he did before despite the lack of roids. Seems like Vera is overstating his own abilities yet again
StevenGiles - January 9, 2012
Silva will simply swith from animal urine to the whizzinator...
…and win again.
killphil - January 9, 2012
*switch
killphil - January 9, 2012
you’d think he’d watch a few episodes of The Wire and buy urine from the day care center.
Victor Rodriguez - January 9, 2012
But yeah, Vera at LHW was pretty bad. I think Silva would use trips again, get Vera down and beat on him to a decision.
killphil - January 9, 2012
koscheck?
gspmademegay - January 9, 2012
Nah, it’s a waste of everyone’s time, especially Thiago’s as it does nothing for his career.
Shnak - January 9, 2012
as I said
on twitter, I’d rather see Brandon Vera vs. Tito Ortiz. I have zero interest on Tito vs. Chuck, Forrest, or any of these silly rematches.
Anton Tabuena - January 9, 2012
That one would kind of make sense
Because it’d be fairly even overall and the loser can gtfo and stop wasting our time.
menckenstein - January 9, 2012
if Vera loses,
both of them leaves the UFC. haha. :)
Anton Tabuena - January 9, 2012
That's what we call a win-win.
775assassin - January 9, 2012 via mobile
If Vera loses, Chael Sonnen should leave the UFC
If Thiago wins, Chael Sonnen should leave the UFC
phantom5691 - January 9, 2012
either way we all win!!!! no more right wing quacks in my mma!!!! im looking at you matt hughes
Mac Marley - January 9, 2012
How about
We focus on the fighters, rather than their political views.
Un Sandpiper - January 10, 2012
Nice
I like that matchup all around.
SteveevaD - January 9, 2012
I don’t think Tito wants to go out with a fight like that though. He wants to go out with something people actually want to watch.
Tim Burke - January 9, 2012
People like to watch Jones!
Shnak - January 9, 2012
do people really want to see him against Liddell? or Forrest?
Maybe it’s just me, but man those are crappy crappy bouts.
Anton Tabuena - January 9, 2012
Yes. Waay more people want to see those bouts than Ortiz/Vera. Brandon isn’t a draw at all. Chuck and Forrest are.
Tim Burke - January 9, 2012
no, I know they are draws.
I’m just saying, are there fans actually saying that “hey I want to see that rematch!”
Cause as a fan, I really have zero interest in seeing Tito fight a retired guy, or get his ass beat again by Forrest. Are you even interested in those bouts?
Anton Tabuena - January 10, 2012
Rematch against Lil Nog? That was really watchable!
menckenstein - January 9, 2012
Good call. I like Vera vs Ortiz, even though it pretty much garantees that Vera gets a win (probably via TKO) and sticks around in the UFC a while longer.
Shnak - January 9, 2012
doubt it.
I think you forget that Tito has a very big skull, and Vera gets too tentative.
Anton Tabuena - January 9, 2012
The kicks Vera landed on Couture would down Tito at this point… his body can’t handle body shots anymore.
Shnak - January 9, 2012
yea, Rashad broke his heart and lil nog stomped him into the ground
soilworker - January 9, 2012
I never even thought of that fight until now for Tito’s last fight and boy does it make alot of sense,
Shocbomb - January 9, 2012
I suppose Vera want's another nose break
he got absolutely outclassed and humiliated in that fight and it had nothing to do with the juice.
Matt Nelson - January 9, 2012
IM sure
it had something to do with it…I mean Vera has realy good TDD, & was whooping that ass in the stand up, so if they fought again i think he’d b able to do alot better. That said Id still pick Silva to win a unam dec, 29-28
JonBon Joey - January 9, 2012
Would much rather see
T silva v Gustaffson & Vera v Matyushenko or Bonnar
JonBon Joey - January 9, 2012
I'm not sure if Vera can keep it standing long enough to win...
but I’ll agree on one thing though, that humiliating beating on the ground made people forget how Vera was winning all the striking exchanges on that bout.
Anton Tabuena - January 9, 2012
Well that shit goes out the window when you get outstruck by Eliot Marshall
Vera’s skills have declined rapidly.
SSreporters - January 9, 2012
Well technically
he wasn’t being “outstruck”, he was winning the first two rounds (although it was pretty boring) until Marshall landed one on the chin late in the third.
Anton Tabuena - January 10, 2012
It had nothing to do with the outcome of the fight, PED’s in MMA are used mostly for training recovery time so the body feels better the next day and you can push that much harder. If there is a part 2 Vera vs Silva it goes the same exact way as part 1 exspet maybe this time Silva finishes Vera.
Shocbomb - January 9, 2012
Silva admitted he was taking injection in his spine due to an injury – which woudl be corticosteroid , not anabolic steroids.
Redconsensus - January 9, 2012
Never believe a man who swaps urine samples.
dancingChicken - January 9, 2012
It’s better to swap it than drink it…
Shnak - January 9, 2012
a fine point
Cunny - January 9, 2012
Yeah things didn’t end too well for TS last time somebody slammed a pint of that stuff
dajulzta - January 9, 2012 via Android app
i hate comments like this
if drugs don’t do anything people woudn’t take them. period. doesn’t matter whether it’s in the fight or in trainting or whatever.
also: is no one on this board a little impressed that vera wants that rematch when he got tooled so hard? i do not expect him to win but i respect him for the call out.
Clifford J - January 9, 2012
nah, he wants it bent back into shape.
Victor Rodriguez - January 9, 2012
Vera used “No H_m_.” That calls for a savage beating.
Ubernoober - January 9, 2012

My name is Branon Vera and I hate my face… I also like giving my surgeon money.
RECE ROCK - January 9, 2012
i can't take this......
Brandon Vera sit down and enjoy your time in the PRELIMS! Your not a good fighter anymore. Drug free and injured Thiago Silva will play bongo on your face again.
howuson - January 9, 2012
If a revenge match is what it takes to get Vera's killer instinct back, that's fine by me
I bet he’d get clobbered again, though.
some schmuck in texas - January 9, 2012
You know what?
I hope he does get this fight and it goes exactly the same just for the fact that he used “no homo”.
TMadeBurner - January 9, 2012
After this catastrophe how can this guy even bring himself to call people out
UncleMax - January 9, 2012
low blow max low blow
lol he shouldve let silva give em a can…then called out thiago
3cheerios - January 9, 2012
Those aren't palm strikes.
Those are straight up bitch slaps. The only thing Thiago didn’t do there was ask him for the money he owed him.
buzz_killr - January 9, 2012
Thiago "MURDERFACE MURDERFACE MURDERFACE" Silva
Damon O. - January 9, 2012
I like how Vera reacts to the taunt, as if he could do something
You just spent the round getting beaten on and now you’re going to try and fight?
Cunny - January 10, 2012
Man, did Thiago Silva just mess him up or what? Eliot Marshall is a lower-tier Light Heavyweight, and Vera almost lost to him. Vera should be fighting the Perosh’s, Diabate’s, TeHuna’s, and Pokrajac’s of the UFC, not Thiago Silva.
chrisbboy82 - January 9, 2012
Wait, I've got it!
Vera vs. Woodley.
some schmuck in texas - January 9, 2012
OK guys...
because Uncle Creepy did it too this week. The whole “no homo” thing. Not sure how it’s gauged in the offensive meter, but with all problems fighters have had with social media of late, probably want to let that “joke” go
ChicagoMMAFan - January 9, 2012
I was thinking the same thing. Why not phrase the first sentence in a way that you don’t have to put a disclaimer of "no homo " at the end of the tweet. It’s just stupid.
memitim - January 9, 2012 via mobile
There is nothing wrong with putting
OMGitsME - January 9, 2012

“No Homo” at the end of a tweet.

Yeah,
As a promotion looking to improve its mainstream brand, getting rid of hate speech from its athletes is a good policy in general. Oh yeah just being a good human being might make it worth it too.
DankNabbot - January 17, 2012
Silva deserves someone higher up.
Vera has this need to call people out after losing to them. He did the same thing with Jon Jones. Silva dominated him and deserves a more exciting fight. A fight with Rogerio Nogueira or Alexander Gustafsson could be fun.
mahalie - January 9, 2012
not only the Jon Jones fight it’s his MO after every loss to call out the fighter who just beat him or make up a excuse as to why he got beaten. He has done this for every loss I ran rememeber exsept the Jardine loss. After he lost to Tim Sylvia and Werdum he asked for rematches and made up excuses as to why he lost or why the real Vera did not show up in the fight.
Shocbomb - January 9, 2012
For that "no homo" remark
he should be cut from the UFC forever, for 2 weeks.
Ikuhisa Quinoa - January 9, 2012
He should have to listen to Tito read Fox in Socks 50 times over

Vera is finished
Thiago Silva by KO in any rematch.
There’s no way they make this fight anyway.
SSreporters - January 9, 2012
Vera is a sick man..
to love public humiliation that much.
chillnnsht - January 9, 2012
This is stupid
That fight was nowhere near close and I doubt Silva’s enhancement made the difference
Nobody thought Vera would win that fight
Silva will commit brutal murder
Vera should just count his blessings that Silva got caught and he got his job back
Silva’s going to bomb Vera out of the UFC again
Cunny - January 9, 2012
No way, Vera needs to fight Shogun
They gave Rampage the Bader fight. Shogun needs a tune-up fight too, and Vera is just perfect.
Lauren J Darkbloom - January 9, 2012
C'mon guys, Vera wasn't serious.
Somebody interviewed him while he was talking nonsense in his sleep. Here’s a photo from the interview.

Machiel Van - January 9, 2012
why is he making a bisping face?
elmojo - January 9, 2012
Oddly enough, the best fight I can think of for Vera is Stephan Bonnar. Which is a terrible, terrible sign for his career trajectory.
crazybones - January 9, 2012
Bonnar from a year ago, maybe… He’s on a 3 fight win streak against 3 guys I’m pretty sure would beat Vera and one that’s probably a toss up.
Things are going worse for Vera than that.
Diz D - January 9, 2012
Vera needs to drop down to WW.
Diz D - January 9, 2012
You’re sure Kingsbury and Pokrajac would beat Vera? Let’s not get carried away here. Bonnar is a 3-fight streak with the lowest level of competition possible in the UFC.
crazybones - January 9, 2012
No, not sure… pretty sure.
However, I forgot he beat Marshall… I thought that went to a draw. Since he is coming off a win, a matchup against Bonnar is possible.
…but speaking of Pokrajac, I think a fight against him makes more sense right now.

watching him almost get ktfo by Eliot Marshall
I don’t like his chances in this rematch.
Tats16 - January 9, 2012
Well, at least he's not calling out easy fights, or fights he thinks are easy
Looking at you Brendan f’cking Schaub
I would expect Vera to be calling out someone like Ortiz, Matyushenko, Diabate, or Perosh.

Brandon Vera is that guy
like melvin guillard, I don’t know where they take their arrogance from, definitly not from their achievements
feiwongfu - January 9, 2012
I dunno man
Melly-G is an unfadable force of sheer badassery. I doubt many people could say the same about Vera without pissing their pants from laughing
dajulzta - January 9, 2012 via Android app
I’m not saying he hasn’t achieved anything or that he has no skills (I like to watch him fight), but to justify his ego, he would have to be champion since 1999 and even then I would like to kick him in the nuts

Vera vs Polish experiment or luiz cane
