For months we heard about how badly UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre wanted to fight Nick Diaz. Diaz had been "disrespectful" and Dana White was very quick to talk to anyone who would listen about GSP's desire to hurt Diaz and how he'd "never seen" the champ act so angry. The push was there for St. Pierre vs. Diaz when it was going to be a title fight and the push remained strong even during the build up to Diaz vs. Carlos Condit. Everyone was ready for the Diaz/GSP rivalry to go full force after Diaz won ther interim belt, but it wasn't to happen.
Following his mildly controversial unanimous decision loss to Condit, Diaz claimed he was going to retire from the sport. While many didn't believe that it was more than an upset fighter speaking "in the moment," the subsequent positive drug test for Diaz may have pushed it closer to being a reality. GSP went on Bruce Buffer's "It's Time" radio show on Sherdog to say that he hopes Diaz sticks around:
"As far as Diaz, of course I would like to fight him because he thinks he's better than me...I think I'm better than him. But I think he should not retire. He did all of the sacrifice in his life to be where he's at right now. He's at the highest point of his career, and if he retires now, he's left a lot of money on the table that could pay for all of the sacrifices he has made during all those years. I think the sport of mixed martial arts needs a guy like him."
GSP also said that he may "dislike" Nick, but also appreciates the way that Diaz motivated him to train harder and be better. St. Pierre is more motivated by the sporting aspects of MMA than a desire to beat up those he feels have wronged him. That is why it was always going to be hard for me to believe that GSP was motivated by pure hatred of Diaz or anything of that nature.
Does Nick provide some fuel for Georges to want to be better? Certainly. But was/is that likely to ever possess him to operate outside of his style and win first attitude? I seriously doubt it.

Nothing waiting for Georges in that cage but mad hooks and fucking gogos yo.
I don’t care ow dark ee can be in is own ed sometime.
Seriously though, it seems Nick really has gotten in his head, and for a guy like Georges I don’t think that kind of emotion is good for his style.

nick is going to need all the weed in Humboldt County after Georges ruins his eyes.

It's almost like he keeps getting asked about Diaz and people keep reporting it...
Think this might be a matchup that will never happen?

George hates Diaz as much as he hates Kos…
I think the only one he really kinda hated was BJ.
spectaa - February 12, 2012
lol yea BJ was kind of getting under his skin all thrugh the prime time show
“If you tap to strikes, your a little bitch, that’s what I always say..”

I dunno
I don’t think GSP was fond of Serra. The ass kicking he laid on him was pretty impressive. I still cringe at those knees to the body.

This is GSP when he finally gets to LNP Nick Diaz
Elitex10x - February 12, 2012
Right, Georges wants to beat Diaz by unanimous decision so bad.
Meek Mill - February 12, 2012
it just gives Diaz fans more time to break their tvs and then have to go buy new ones.
GSP will fix the economy!

That’s kind of a retarded reaction considering what GSP said in this quote, but what was I expecting anyway…

I can't wait to see the beating
GSP is going to put on Nick if the fight ever happens.
attgnp - February 12, 2012
If the fight does appen, den I can see GSP mainly using his wrestling to win. I just ope that he follows that with ground n pound. On the feet, Diaz will pressure GSP, and I don’t know how GSP will react to that. He may try to emulate what Condit did, but I could see him just go back to his wrestling if he feels too pressured.
chrisbboy82 - February 12, 2012
GSP is much smarter than Diaz
He’d command the octagon and kick Diaz’s face off.
halitosis - February 12, 2012 via mobile
Diaz has a strong chin and recovery ability. I can see Diaz walking through a flush head kick by GSP.
chrisbboy82 - February 12, 2012
Diaz's strategy
At the beginning of round 2 he tells Georges: “Homie, your eye looks a little puffy.” GSP looks up at the big screen to see if his eye is puffy.
Diaz then goes “Pow!” right in the kisser.
Jake Shields tells him, “See? I told you it would work.”

Things could work out for Diaz if he returns
Condit vs GSP will be done by the time hes allowed to fight again
he has to beat a contender and there you go, back to square one.
elmojo - February 12, 2012
GSP has been exposed
Chris Hall - February 12, 2012
Of course GSP doesn't want Diaz to retire.
GSP is an adult who can see things in an unbiased manner and he knows that regardless of his own personal opinion, Diaz is a very good fighter who is exciting and has worked his butt off to get to where he is.
It speaks to the type of fan base this sport has when people are either happy he is retired or calling for him to receive his walking papers and be released from the UFC. People let their opinion of someones personality get in the way of accessing their abilities.
I blame it on the WWE aspect of the sport where people tend to care more about personalities than they do actual in sport accomplishments.
NoHo - February 12, 2012
Diaz is the only GSP fight left at WW
that I care to pay $60 to see. I’m pretty positive Diaz will/would lose, but all the in-cage shit talking (and maybe a slap or two?) would be worth the price of admission.
GSP is amazing, but his fights do not make for the most compelling viewing anymore.
Dave Strummer - February 12, 2012
I think the Condit fight will be good, honestly. Style-wise, the main difference between Condit and Diaz is that Condit is a more diverse striker whereas Diaz is the better grappler. Either way, neither person goes down without a hard fight, and GSP is going to be hard pressed to keep Condit down.
MicahtheCynic - February 12, 2012
Regardless of whether or not Georges actually “HATES” Diaz, this is a sign of what a professional the guy is. I’ve never been a huge fan, but seeing him speak like this about a guy who’s made the comments and has created the tension that Diaz has speaks volumes about Georges’ character. Ln’P guy, pretty boy, or whatever anyone calls him, you gotta respect the dude. He’s a competitor, and wants to prove that he’s the best, and he knows that Nick is one of the true final challenges to his throne (no disrespect to Condit). I’d assume that if they meet, when all is said and done they both show a lot of class.
FarmerInTheCity - February 12, 2012
Diaz vs GSP
I know Diaz lost and I think it was a good call but I still wanna see GSP vs Diaz. Jus because of how much they dislike each other. But S/O to Condit for playin spoiler!!!
