The Hollywood Reporter broke the news Monday night that former Strikeforce star Gina Carano is set to star in her second movie, an "action thriller" called Into The Blood. The film is expected to start filming in Puerto Rico this spring or summer.

So what's it about? THR and director John Stockwell explain:

Described as being in the vein of Taken, Blood is set in motion when a husband disappears while vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, to be played by Carano. The grieving wife passionately and recklessly pursues the men whom she believes kidnapped and killed him.

"This role will showcase not only Gina’s fighting skills, but also her acting abilities as her character struggles to reign in her violent past," Stockwell tells The Hollywood Reporter.

Carano broke out onto the silver screen this year with Haywire, an action movie that features a star-studded cast and Carano in a lead role. To date, the film has done over $24 million worldwide. THR added that the same stunt team that worked on Haywire are also in consideration for this new project.

So what will the explanation be as far as why her character is a mega-badass?

Good for her

I heard good things about Haywire. Hopefully, her acting chops improve as she gets more comfortable, and maybe she might become a pretty good female action star. Ideally, she would want to be the next Milla Jovovich, which shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish with her skills and looks.

Haywire was meh

The action parts were good and Carano is clearly capable of kicking someone’s ass (or looking like she is on screen). The biggest problem is that the dialogue in the movie was complete garbage. I’m talking really, really bad. So bad that I couldn’t even tell if she was competent at acting because the dialogue was written by somebody who has never seen people interact using words. The other actors in the movie, several of whom are more well known, also end up looking like idiots because they’re reading terrible lines.

Hopefully this movie is a bit better in that regard.

Par for the course for Ewan Macgregor

Ever see Star Wars Episode 3?

Worst dialog i’ve ever seen in a movie.

Wow wow wow, I know you didn't just talk trash on my boy E-Mac.

But yeah, Star Wars Episode 3 is just embarassing.

Star Wars prequels

Are irrefutable proof that you CANNOT act your way out of a poorly written dialog and exposition.

Yea, even Portman looked like she couldn’t act in those movies.

It didn’t help that she was stuck playing opposite Hayden Christensen and Jake Lloyd in most of her scenes. It’s hard to look good when you are sharing the screen with a block of wood.

Liam Neeson look alright. The best of the worst.

Not really.

Lucas has always been terrible at writing dialogue, but Harrison Ford and Alec Guinness were able to thrive in spite of Lucas’ shortcomings.

Ah, but Episode IV was the only one of the original trilogy that George has sole writing credit for. It’s also the one that had the greatest amount of “studio interference”, as he put it. In other words, Lucas’ megalomania was reined in for most of the originals.

Word

When Lucas can indulge every creative whim he does more damage than good. When he is restrained and is forced to be creative is when he is at his best.

But the more successful a director becomes the less people can say shit to them so we have the star wars prequels.

Further proof that the world could always use some more South Park.

Have you ever seen the making off features of the prequels?

The amount of yes men is absurd.

The best part is after you see Lucas and his legion of nuthuggers watch the movie, and even they slowly realize that Episode 1 is a hot mess awfulness.

This is the truest statement ever

Lucas is a visual, technology focused dude. He’s good at what he does. A lot of Star Wars appeal is because of Lucas’ iconic visual design (Darth Vader, lightsabers, and the Death Star are all instantly recognizable), but when you look at the story, it’s basically just the heroic journey. Nothing is really uniquely original about the story or the execution. Luckily, people who were competent were able to take this iconic visual design and construct good films from his idea.

The prequels are this epitomized. They are all visually focused, without director like a Irvin Kershner making up for Lucas’ complete lack of directing real people, or a co-writer to fill in the gaping plot holes.

Let Lucas sit on his ass in front of a computer (like he always does) and have more competent people craft the story around his visuals.

Man… E-Mac is one of my heroes.

Long Way Round and Long Way Down two of the best shows i’ve ever seen

I'll have to check those out. They look interesting for sure.
"In my opinion the Jedi are evil!"

Thats all i could think about when i wrote my last comment.

“Padimy, is she alright? Is she safe?”

YOu know… right after he tried to kill her..

They could have done a better job naming this movie

In the blood? Meh

In the flesh? Now we’re talking

That title makes me think she's on her period most of the movie.

That title makes me think she’s going to be on her period most of the movie. That could be very bad for her enemies.

Actually it'd be good for her enemies because she'd weigh in over the limit

and they’d get 10% of her purse.

She will be back. Just ask the Rock

I see what you did there

Did y’all see haywire? Was it not the slowest action movie ever?

Slowest action movie ever? I think not

That title belongs to a higher caliber of film

Did you google “worst action movie ever”?

Found it after reading Seanbaby article

It has stuck with me ever since, like (discoand)herpes.

Haywire was worse that Gigli for me. It was just god awful.

I feel insulted when these directors put pretty faces in movies and expect me to ignore the story and every other flaw.

Yeah, she only can get better though…right?

A lot of modern day action movies are like that. It’s pretty much par for the course at this point.

I didn't like it. My friends all loved it though, and they really liked Gina.

It was odd since they had no idea who she was.

Haywire tanked at the box office

I’m surprised they gave her another shot. Could be interesting I guess.

It was still well received by critics for the most part

I think they were pleased with her performance but Soderbergh’s choice to try and forcefeed ARTISTIC MERIT into an action film didn’t translate well

This has straight-to-dvd written all over it (based on the director's track record)

However, most of his movies seem to feature bikini clad ladies quite prominently (he directed ‘blue crush)… so we’ve got that going for us.

Yeah pretty much.

Prediction: Gina struggling to show emotion in a bikini. Gina interrogating in a bikini. Gina kicking ass in a bikini. Might not be that bad after all.

coming soon to a three for ten dollars bin near you. (based on this guys track record)

I love how...

You can literally switch Gina’s name in the storyline with Van Damne, Segal or even Arnold back in his hey day and it would be the same movie. I have a plot for her next next movie: Undercover agent who witnesses a murder committed by the Governor. Now she must find a way to bring justice to the victim’s family and make the Gov pay for his crime.

Thought this was gonna be vampire related by the title.

Struggle to reign in that violent past Gina!!!

caribbean vacation…beaches…topless beaches.

Like Taken? Taken was 30 minutes of fatherly buildup then Liam Neeson making the most badass threat in all of cinema and then whomping ass. I’m not exactly a father but I felt for his character having to go to another country to give the parental beatdowns. I don’t know if I’ll enjoy this let alone compare this movie to anything like it.

Also, I highly recommend the Korean movie “The Man from Nowhere” as well as “Man on Fire” which is my #4 movie right now. 2.5 hours of justifiable torture in the name of the greater good.

Liam Neeson making the most badass threat in all of cinema

that threat alone made me watch the movie

no regrets

Same here

That was all I needed. I didn’t wanna show my mom the trailer but when we saw it, she squeezed my arm in anger after “Good luck *click”

Liam Neeson made that speech a voicemail greeting for a fan.

Cause he couldn’t be anyMORE awesome

both excellent movies
Haywire blew dog

Carano was more a novelty act than a mixed martial artist. Doubtful she will ever apear in a cage again. In the blood will no doubt suck even more. Nothing to see here.

So her MMA career is officially donzo?
Probably

but her career as spank material for BE members is alive and healthy. Or so someone told me. cough

I wouldn't necessarily say so.

If film acting doesn’t stick, she might be able to go back to MMA.
