2011 was a year of change for UFC heavyweight contender Alistair Overeem. A contract dispute between Zuffa and Golden Glory led to the K-1 champion's departure from his long time trainers and management team. To further murk the issue, Golden Glory filed to have Alistair's UFC 141 purse withheld for reimbursement of wages lost. With no team and no management, Overeem tested the waters in Las Vegas at Randy Couture's gym Xtreme Couture; however, Overeem returned to Holland to help his ailing mother.
With his victory over Brock Lesnar, Overeem earned a shot at the UFC heavyweight belt Memorial Day weekend and has decided to join Rashad Evans and Tyrone Spong at Imperial Athletics as a member of the Blackzilians. Glenn Robinson and Authentic Sports Management will handle Alistair's career from publicity and management to aiding in fight preparation and maximizing his earning potential through various revenue streams.
For Alistair it was a simple choice. With ASM taking over all the responsibilities of handling business affairs, he will have the opportunity to focus on his training and evolving as a fighter. "With Authentic Sports Management, I saw right away that Glenn Robinson has a system in place that allows the fighter to focus on training only, which is so important as I prepare for my UFC heavyweight title fight against Junior Dos Santos," said Overeem.
Alistair will find a familiar face in Boca Raton as he and Tyrone Spong faced each other in the quarter finals of the 2010 K-1 Grand Prix. With Spong attempting to make the leap to MMA sometime in 2012, having Overeem there as a teammate will ease his transition from kick boxer to MMA fighter as well as aid in preparation for his fight against Peter Aerts this summer.
Alistair Overeem is set to face Junior Dos Santos at UFC 146 on May 26th in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. You can follow him on twitter @AlistairOvereem for training updates from Florida.

So basically Alistair is going to gas out and give up his back?
RandyCouture'sDivorceLawyer - February 14, 2012 via mobile
what is your idiotic comment in reference to
benten20 - February 14, 2012 via mobile
melvin guillard & ^?
shamo84 - February 14, 2012
typing on a cracked mobile phone with autocorrect so somehow random became idiotic
benten20 - February 14, 2012 via mobile
Also Rumble, and possibly Michael Johnson.
POW - February 14, 2012 via mobile
Blackzilians members supposedly have a habit of doing that in fights.
This is a good strategic move for Overeem, I was worried that he would lose quality sparring partners for kickboxing in his inevitable jump stateside, but Spong is one of the best guys out there.
lolumad - February 14, 2012
Who besides Melvin?
bigstupidsmile - February 14, 2012
I know Michael Johson didn't do it.
Well he gave up his back but he didn’t tap
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
I guess I forgot Rumble on there, eh?
bigstupidsmile - February 14, 2012
oh yeah Rumble the heavyweight
I was a fan but after him not admitting it was his fault for missing weight it really made me not like him
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
i was going to say "3 fight losing streak coming up"
but yours is much better
Cunny - February 14, 2012
I wonder how bigfoot feels about this?
TheCode - February 14, 2012
He doesn't train with them anymore, he is with black house.
malo - February 14, 2012 via mobile
No
He trains there when he’s in the US, otherwise he trains with Team Nogueira in Rio. Black House as a camp is kinda in limbo at the moment.
Patrick Wyman - February 14, 2012
"Black House as a camp is kinda in limbo at the moment."
explain please. I hadnt heard this
Ricardo Arguello - February 14, 2012
Black House
Is something that Ed Soares set up with the Nogueiras, and Soares has been losing high-profile clients left and right (Junior, Aldo, and I think someone else too). Junior still trains with the Nogueiras, as far as I know, but that’s Team Nogueira, not Black House per se. There’s no real difference except in terms of branding.
Patrick Wyman - February 14, 2012
ah, thanks for explaining
I thought Black House was an Anderson Silva thing, not a Soares thing
Ricardo Arguello - February 14, 2012
something tells me after along walk in the deep woods
and always just out of focus he will hash it out
gxc - February 14, 2012
He moved camps to Big Nog awhile ago i thought
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
Apparently Alistair is actually being PAID to train there.
Sounds kinda weird to me.
Rob Young - February 14, 2012
He isn't. I have that confirmed.
Matthew Roth - February 14, 2012
I don't know why anyone beleived that anyway
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
o rly
the gorilla hath let me down
Rob Young - February 14, 2012
JDS.
1st round KO the reem can train with godzilla and king kong there aint no stopping cigano!
nickrodamous - February 14, 2012
This may be very true...
JDS is just too fast…too fluid and has better cardio
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
Yep
and It doesn’t matter how big he gets reem will always have suspect chin. Werdum was teeing off on him and landed some good shots imagine those coming from JDS.
nickrodamous - February 14, 2012
teeing off on AND a suspect chin? doesnt make sense to me but ok
plus vs werdum, overeem was holding back on his striking due to takedown but he fixed that and took brock out no problem
gxc - February 14, 2012
makes perfect sense.
Werdum isn’t known for his KO power if it was anyone else hitting Reem with those shots he would have been in trouble that goes for Roy Nelson too. Werdum landed the cleaner more brutal shots on Nelson if JDS hit him that clean with some of those knees goodnight big cuntry
nickrodamous - February 14, 2012
umm..JDS did fight big country...and DID hit him with cleaner harder punches..and nelson still wasnt finished
gxc - February 14, 2012
I think if JDS had varied his strikes he could have finished him
All he did was punch punch and punch
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
Possibly.
If he switched it up with more diverse head strikes but he did work the body nicely in rounds 2 and 3 I distinctly recall and brutal knee that probably still has Nelson gut jiggling.
nickrodamous - February 14, 2012
Yeah but i'm wondering if he even has the ability to finish guys on the ground...?
I know he likes boxing but a finish is a finish at some point. Thats one of the few things i like about bones…His striking isn’t that technical but he tries it and once he gets an opportunity he finishes anyway he can same with Spider
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
Do mean finishing on the ground.
as in like taking the fight to the ground and finishing with a TKO or taking a guy down to submit him? To be fair I think the carwin fight could have been stopped and most of his TKOS like Gonzaga,Cain and a few others technically finished on the groud via TKO whatever he is doing its working and I just don’t see a way Overreem and win.
nickrodamous - February 14, 2012
Nah
Werdum hit Nelson with the better shots. JDS dropped him in the first round but paced himself after that and worked the body nicely. Werdum had a thai clinch half of the fight and unloaded knee after knee to Nelsons dome just look at the cut on his forehead i believe it was posted here last week.
nickrodamous - February 14, 2012
I also don't see him letting that guard down one bit with JDS
however if Reem keeps his guard up like he does with K1 gloves JDS will tag him senseless chin or not.
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
Don't you remember?
Even Chuck “Pillow Fists” Liddell knocked him out, for crying out loud! Everyone should know that he has a glass chin because Bas told us it was the truth.
Baba Booey - February 15, 2012
Watched that fight last night.
Funny seeing him so skinny back then.
NickRingp4pGOAT - February 15, 2012
Wait
Dana said that JR gasses and you have to go for the takedown.
younggunzvt - February 14, 2012
If I am ever a high level pro
I am moving to Florida and training at Imperial Athletics
Andy Anderson - February 14, 2012
A few miles away from Imperial is ATT's main academy
Theres a whos who of MMA in that gym.
Ricardo Arguello - February 14, 2012
Florida has no income tax as well right?
The guy’s poised to be a star and make some major cash, makes sense to save some money by being in Florida.
BROCKLESNAR!!!!! - February 14, 2012

Sugel Mendoza - February 14, 2012
How long until Bisping tries to join the blackzilians?
Cam86 - February 14, 2012
why would he?
darkotto23 - February 14, 2012
because Tiki training isn't gonna cut it
AfroSamurai - February 14, 2012
cant wait till JDS explodes some C4 on that already scarred up face, also now hashad fans are going to go crazy about their boy beating up jones in stand up.
carmine99 - February 14, 2012
Well atleast Reem will get the benefit of wrestling with Mike and Rashad and striking with Spong
Who’s the BJJ coach there?
Chin Check - February 14, 2012
Glenn Robinson
Is that the same Glenn Robinson that played basketball? “Big Dogg”?
Baba Booey - February 15, 2012
happy he found a new home
Its a good thing he found a place to train steady cus all that traveling and gettin fighters over cost to mutch time and money..
Now he can concentrate 100 procent for junior …and he is gonna need that
(lol) i dont wanna spoil it for the people who think this fight is gonna be a 5 rounds battle
cus im pretty mutch sure it won,t last longer than 2 rounds..
junior dos santos is freaking fast with his hand and boxing combination,s
but he is to small (of course he can ko reem ) but it would have to be
a cain like ko so a fast ko ..Reem aint stupid he is gonna fight smart
keep his hands up and wait for his moment ..
he knows damn well that against fast energetic fighters he needs to be more carefull
he learn allot from his previous fight,s
I dont see jds taking more that 3 ubberknees to the belly
for the people who say but reem needs to get close in order to
throw dows big knees ..and that leaves him open for a fast ko
Wel you could turn that around to Jds needs to get close to hit him
so that leaves him open for those vicious knees ..
and lets not forget reem dus not hit like a girl he might not have jds speed
but he sure goth a whole shitload of power in his hooks ..
And of course jds is the current champ won al of his fights with ko
is a Bjj black beld ..(but witch brasillian mma fighter dus not have bjj black beld)
Either way this fight wont last longer than 2 round,s both fighters have a brutal ko
in their hands ..
But most likley it,s gonna be ..
Jds Punches Reem knees Jds Sleeps Reem Eats ;)
