WE AREEEEEEEEEEEEEE LIVE!
Matt Bishop - February 15, 2012
If an awesome fight happens but nobody sees it..
..did it actually happen?
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
That is how I feel about my play-by-play at Gals Guide. Awesome…but does it matter?
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
I'm the wrong person to ask about anything re Gal's Guide
For a variety of reasons.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
I don’t know. I can get why it isn’t your thing with some of the pieces on there.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
I used to hop over there once in a while
And never saw anything even remotely compelling. I mean, when the most thought provoking post of the week is a few people talking about why someone is their “pantydropper of the week”, I have no use for the site. And when you couple that with Nate promoting the site at the same time that they’re shutting down other SBN sites that had five times the readership, I just can’t bring myself to look anymore.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
BOOM!
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
I get it. I try to bring myself to write some decent opinion pieces, and I’ve written a few. But we can’t get people to come over.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
Kind of hard when the vast majority of MMA hardcore fans are males (like BE readers), and your site is named “Gals guide..” and is infamous for its “Pantydropper” pieces
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
Well
Jake Shields is hot
IRodC - February 15, 2012
Yeah, I get that. Kind of puts me in a creative slump, but there isn’t much I can do in terms of that. I don’t run the site. C’est la vie, I suppose.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
I’m sure there’s probably some good content there, I’m just not very interested in finding out considering the theme of the place. I guess I haven’t been there in at least a year or two, but yeah, I think I’ll stick to Mania and BE. No offense though
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
Non-taken.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
If you can bring some legitamacy to it, good on you
But there’s a stigma on that place for a reason. Years of trash content that’s targeted towards a niche in MMA is going to engrain the idea that there’s no reason to check it out. I don’t even think it’s about the idea that it’s “for gals”, as much as enough people have seen it enough times to write it off. To be perfectly honest, I don’t understand what purpose it serves, or why it hasn’t been cut yet.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
I visit GGTMMA
Once a week. I legitimately don’t understand why you do play-by-play on there, though. Are you hoping to steal viewers from BE or are you hoping to entice casuals to stop by?
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Page views.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
The SBN model is to flood the internets with content
Pageviews will come from search engine results, and if you’ve got the top three results (BE, Mania and Gal’s Guide, for example) you’re guaranteed to not only have more views, but also take away potential views from other news outlets.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
Fair enough
I know that every time I google something MMA-related, a BE or SBN article shows up so I guess the plan is working.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Yep
At first one might think that it’s lame to do it, but at the end of the day more views = more ad revenue, and fewer views at other sites means advertisers will be more inclined to go SBN. It’s pretty smart, really.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
It makes perfect sense
I guess I was underestimating the amount of people who google for p-b-p during a fight card.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
It’s the same reason that every site does PBP, a result post per fight that night, and then a second fight recap the next day.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
I know that much
You can’t run an MMA site without doing PBP, recap, etc. – I was merely wondering why SBN had several sites do PBP.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
I want to see Diaz vs Sanchez 2, 5 rounds.
Tats16 - February 15, 2012
Howdy folks.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
hiya
Brian Hemminger - February 15, 2012
Man I wish this fight were 5 rounds manly violence would of occured
MaZZacare - February 15, 2012
No disrespect to ellenberger, but you shouldn't get a title shot for beating shields and sanchez
But with the state of the division right now,I would understand the move.
Rampage01 - February 15, 2012
Well, he kinda has a few wins before those two fights, too.
Matt Bishop - February 15, 2012
How is Shields not an impressive win?
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
If Diego was the priest, The Exorcist would have ended in 10 mins.
les rallizes denudes - February 15, 2012
Anik hit his hyperbole quota by saying that was a candidate for fight of the year
IRodC - February 15, 2012
"This was pegged as a potential fight of the year"
And it certainly didn’t disappoint.
STFU, Anik.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Fight of the century wasn't it?
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
Fight of the universe
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Submission defense.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
Pyle
Howard
Rocha
Pierson
Shields
Sanchez
That is a nice run for a title shot
IRodC - February 15, 2012
Agreed. Maybe one more top guy? I wouldn’t be upset about Hendricks getting a title shot if he beats Kos convincingly.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
How about booking Ellenberger now, and then Hendricks for the next shot if GSP is still out. I definitely don’t think Condit deserves to wait out until GSP is back
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
Agreed
Why do an interim belt if the winner just waits for the champ? That just makes the interim title fight equal to a #1 contender bout.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Yep
They have 2 good candidates if Hendricks wins. He would also ge the nod for beating 2 of the guys that had been on top for a while (AKA guys)
IRodC - February 15, 2012
Right at the end of the fight seeing the desperation in Elleberger's eyes as he was trying to avoid the punches on the cage didn't look great
Looked like he was really afraid to lose so he tried to take it to the ground (b4 the end flurry of course), maybe in favor of the hand injruy hypothesis
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
Diego is 2-2, arguably 1-3 in his return to WW, and lost the first round in all of his WW fights
Would it be best for Diego to just drop back to lightweight? I’m thinking Sanchez vs. Ben Henderson or Sanchez vs. Nate Diaz would be bonkers fights.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
Love Snachez vs Diaz
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
If he stays at WW
Sanchez vs Diaz too
IRodC - February 15, 2012
two?
As in Nick? Also like Sanchez/Miller or Cerrone if he dropped back again
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
Sanchez would brutalize Cerrone
I’m thinking Sanchez vs. Lauzon would be amazing.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
Sanchez would outlast Lauzon
Lauzon is only dangerous for the first round and about one minute of the second.
Scott Whitaker - February 15, 2012
That's the point
It’d be the most exciting 7 minutes of your life.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
I don't disagree
At all.
Scott Whitaker - February 18, 2012
Really? I think I;d have Cerrone but it would be a good fight. Pettis as well. LW is so awesome
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
I don't think it matters where he fights
A legit welterweight could wrassle him for days, but anyone that can shut down his walking forward will probably win. His cardio is his biggest advantage, and I don’t think that he’ll ever be a title contender at either weight.
For fun fights though, he’s probably best off at 170.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
I think Sanchez is better at welterweight, he’s too small and weak at LW. He’ll continue to have technique deficiencies in either division though
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
I don't think that would be a good idea
I’ve heard in the past that he’s complained about having trouble making 155, so moving down could lead to him having even worse performances, especially as he’s getting older.
Diego needs to improve his boxing, which was always his weakness, if he wants to avoid becoming a gatekeeper. If he had better hands, defense, and footwork, he would have done significantly better in this fight.
amendamatrix - February 15, 2012
I think it's fairly evident
The majority of Jackson fighters are not good boxers. Winkeljohn is probably overrated.
Look at the Jackson Stable – Guida (no), Jones (boxing is not good at all), Sanchez (no), Cerrone (garbage vs. Diaz), they’ve all got serious flaws in their boxing/striking in general offensively or defensively.
Jackson fighters have great chins for the most part and I think it masks the fact that if they didn’t have great chins they’d all be knocked out every other fight.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
Jardine!
He’s so UNORTHODOX!
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
I forgot Jardine was even at Jackson's
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
You're right
If I was a Jackson fighter, I would find a local boxing coach and train my hands better if I felt that I wasn’t getting proper instruction in that area of fighting. Greg should have hired a good boxing coach for the Albuquerque gym a long time ago.
Isn’t Winklejohn usually 7 hours away at Colorado?
amendamatrix - February 15, 2012
If Johny Hendricks knocks out Johny Hendricks
Then he’d be Gray Maynard.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
Don't forget the winner of kampmann-alves as well
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
Diego Sanchez
Should fight Akiyama. FotN guaranteed.
Scott Whitaker - February 15, 2012
Sanchez vs Nick fucking Diaz again
IRodC - February 15, 2012
no
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
Why not
First fight + 10 times the craziness
IRodC - February 15, 2012
see below.
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
Diaz might be out for a year though, for all we know
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
Oh yeah
forgot about that
IRodC - February 15, 2012
Depends
If he yells at the commission meeting loud enough it might get reduced down to 6 months, maybe less.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
For a 2nd offense?
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
Doubt it.. minimum six months like last time, but probably longer than that. I’m thinking a year. Guess we’ll find out come April
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
I hope he gets a year
But I’m not betting on it.
-Neil- - February 15, 2012
Diego Sanchez would probably knock out Matt Hughes with multiple missed punches
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
Dana White Boxercise Technique
IRodC - February 15, 2012
WAR Che Mills
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
He didnt make LW
IRodC - February 15, 2012
GREAT POINT.
Matt Bishop - February 15, 2012
If hunt beats struve will it be funnier looking than when Nelson did it?
IRodC - February 15, 2012
Visual aid
IRodC - February 15, 2012
Struve unlucky not to get KOTN?
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
No.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
Nope
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Struve vs. Hunt would be a modern-day Big Nog vs. Barnett
With Mark Hunt’s new found side-control abilities.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
struve vs russow might be interesting
similar career paths it seems
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
No prizes for menjivar-albert? great short fight, back and forth
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
Sub of the night
IRodC - February 15, 2012
ah, missed that soz
UK MMA MAN - February 15, 2012
hey Dana
IRodC - February 15, 2012
I hope Dana realizes that Sweden hasn't even legalized five round fights, so Nogueira/Gustafsson ain't going five
So he must be talking about for the cards from June onwards.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
John are you kidding me? Diego decisively lost the first two rounds and was knocked down
And was losing the 3rd until he got Ellenberger’s back.
SSreporters - February 15, 2012
No CroCop pants = KO
The croatian flag is haunted
IRodC - February 15, 2012
iS Miocic the best prospect in HW division right now?
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
GURAM!
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
whats up with Guram? Kinda wanna see him fight
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
Keeps getting injured.
Horselover Fat - February 15, 2012
IS DECENT
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
I’d have to say so.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
Del Rosario
if he’s healthy
IRodC - February 15, 2012
this guy > Del Rosario
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
I don't know man, they should fight
IRodC - February 15, 2012
Jon Gruden vs Del Rosario sounds like a fun fight.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
does Del Rosario have a fighht booked no?
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
Don't think so
He had a car accident and has been out for a while
IRodC - February 15, 2012
I had 30-24 as well.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
As I wrote in the live thread
30-26 was criminal.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Ellenberger-Sanchez got 50K FOTN
Well deserved
amendamatrix - February 15, 2012
Nope
Albert-Menjivar deserved it.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
I only watch the last three fights, what was great about that fight?
amendamatrix - February 15, 2012
It was an insane
Back and forth. My favourite round of the year.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
So where is everybody?
It’s like this every time – the live thread is crazy, a few of us make it to the BE radio thread and everyone else disappears.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Probably looking at the CW scores
IRodC - February 15, 2012
It’s Wednesday night, most people have to go to work or school tomorrow morning
amendamatrix - February 15, 2012
It's 6am where I am
School/work isn’t an excuse.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
It’s already midnight in NY, hell, I shouldn’t even be up right now.
amendamatrix - February 16, 2012
I'm here
how’d your team do?
Our Bovine Public - February 15, 2012
Shit
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
good
we seemed to do okay. But our low scores were low
Our Bovine Public - February 16, 2012
I just looked through the scores
8 out of 11 scored according to their draft position, +/- 5.
wonderfulspam - February 16, 2012
You have to think
The weight cut played a part in Rocha’s lack of ability to take a punch.
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
I didn’t understand the backing of Rocha. He is not good at striking and Brookins gets slept on by a lot of people. He isn’t as terrible as people make him out to be.
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
Speaking of Cody McKenzie…why don’t they do him versus Tiequan Zhang?
mountaineers101 - February 15, 2012
Visa issues
Too late to get a non-Japanese fighter in.
crazedfan - February 16, 2012
What's your pick for FotN, Matt and Brian?
wonderfulspam - February 15, 2012
Stann is good but waaaaaaay too aggresive
IRodC - February 16, 2012
Brian Stann was great
Anik and Florian were terrible.
wonderfulspam - February 16, 2012
Everyone, please go to Mike Goldberg’s Twitter. @mfg16
His replies to fans being rude to him are really graphic and unintentionally hilarious.
mountaineers101 - February 16, 2012
I don't get Sanchez-Ellenberger as FotN
You’re basically saying that a 1-round fight can never be FotN if the main event is relatively decent.
wonderfulspam - February 16, 2012
Loeffler's foot is the biggest loser of the night
IRodC - February 16, 2012
MARTIN KAMPMANN!
I wouldn’t miss that for the world. Looking forward to that! Thanks for tonight’s show, good stuff guys!

Matt Bishop - February 16, 2012
I'll listen extra hard tomorrow to make up for it
