Ivan Menjivar defeats John Albert by submission with a rear naked choke. The tap out came at 3:45 in the first round.
Ivan Menjivar was in serious trouble early in the fight as John Albert came out agressive as the first round began. When the fight was taken to the ground, Albert threatened with different variations of armbars, ensuring that Menjivar had to remain on the defensive. Menjivar survived and was able to regain his feet but Albert continued to press the action. The fight was close to a TKO stoppage when John Albert teed off on the Canadian fighter with punches and knees. The referee let Menjivar fight through adversity, though few would complain if the fight was stopped at that moment.
It was Albert's lack of experience that was the true difference maker as he decided to attempt a guillotine choke while Menjivar was still hurt from his strikes. The guillotine failed and Menjivar quicly took Albert's back and sunk in a rear naked choke. The Ultimate Fighter contestant was forced to tap.

Menjivar remains awesome
“What would Sakuraba do” would move bracelets off shelves
One of the knees in Albert’s flurry was likely illegal, and I think the ref saw it, and did nothing about it. I hate that the knees to the head on the ground rule even generates such situations.
They generally don’t give 4 minute long fights fight of the night, but I enjoyed this more than anything else on the card.

Is it my imagination
or did Jon Anik say Albert gassed near the end of the fight which resulted in him losing, rather than it being down to a lack of experience?

I would have been dissapointed if Ivan los by TKO because the illegal knee was a contributin factor. Sure, the rule may be stupid, but Im sure Ivan would have positioned himself otherwise if he thought hi opponent could knee him in the head while downed.
