This weekend may be light on the MMA but it is heavy on the boxing and we have a major heavyweight title on the line when Dereck Chisora challenges for Vitali Klitschko's WBC title. Chisora has been quick with some great quotes in the lead-up to the fight and has insisted that he is coming to battle, not roll over. He tried to make that point very clear at today's weigh-in when he slapped Vitali in the face during the staredown.
Here's video of the encounter:
Bad Left Hook's Coverage of Chisora vs. Klitschko
Klitschko's response (via ESPN):
"I am going to hit back on Saturday," the Ukrainian champion said. "He will get his beating."
...
"I'm really looking forward to teaching this young gentleman a lesson," he said. "He is from Great Britain, but he's lacking appropriate manners."
Since it's going to be a slow weekend and I want to watch grown men punch each other in the face, I'll have coverage of the fight live tomorrow when it goes down at roughly 4:30 p.m. ET.
Update: Chisora was fined $50,000 for the slap.

Nice Try...
To stir up interest in hopes people will watch. Don’t know who these fighters are.
evenflow10 - February 17, 2012
You don’t know who Vitali Klitschko is? Man.
andrew861 - February 17, 2012
I find it weird that someone wouldn’t know who Vitali Klitschko is.
However, there is huge interest and it will do massive ratings and a huge gate in the area where it is being held (Germany). It’ll be a sellout of Olympiahalle (roughly 14,000 seats).
But way to insist that no one cares because you don’t.
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
Americans don't really care about the Klitschkos
And I can’t really blame them. They’re not very exciting fighters.
discoandherpes - February 18, 2012
Myth.
Vitali has one of the highest KO % of HW Champions ever.
YPG - February 18, 2012
You can have a large amount of stoppages and still be boring
Heavyweight boxing in general isn’t that great. Middleweight and below is where it seems to be at these days.
discoandherpes - February 18, 2012
I don't believe that you don't know who Vitali Klitschko is.
You, sir, are lying.
MichaelDavidSmith - February 17, 2012
it appears evenflow has been living under a rock for the past few years.
daftshadow - February 17, 2012
you should've said
i dont know who chisora is
and i know who klitschko is, but i also know that hes boring as fuck
DK_Monster - February 17, 2012
The Klitschko brothers are almost comically reserved....
…considering they are absolute destroyers.
Great quote…..
evenflow10, How do you not know who the Klitschko’s are??

PPV, showtime, HBO??
LTJbukem - February 17, 2012
I think the US distributor is EpixHD which is like an online thing (I think they have some cable companies that carry it). It’s obviously a big deal in Europe and is being covered like 10 different ways.
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
Yes, it's on EpixHD
They’re offering a free 14-day trial right now so if you want to watch the fight online it’ll be easy:

Is Chisora going to be punished for this by the boxing commission or does anything go these days?
andrew861 - February 17, 2012
As updated, it was a $50,000 fine.
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
I originally read Dereck Chisora as Deepak Chopra
Wow, am I disappointed.
krcampbell - February 17, 2012
Awesome +1
ChillMike - February 17, 2012
I don’t know why this made me laugh so much. Thank you.
Patrick Tenney - February 17, 2012
The polite way of putting it is that neither of these guys has a future in pro wrestling. The most blatantly ‘worked’ stunt i’ve seen for ages. Klitschko didn’t even bother doing the ‘hold me back’ routine.
sheikybaby - February 17, 2012
I don’t doubt it was part media stunt. But I honestly don’t think Vitali is the kind of guy who would engage in a weigh-in brawl.
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
It looked to me like he was so surprised he held back but was like in shock then when they show him looking at Chisora he's got like moment of realization and anger building up
Boxing is a sport Chisora just made it a brawl
Papercut Elbow - February 17, 2012
Further proof that real life looks nothing like Pro Wrestling.
Shaun32887 - February 17, 2012
This was my favorite thing from the presser back in january
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
Most of Europe, Fans in America, people in south africa........
who is he talking about when he mentions “people up north”……santa?
justsomehawkeyefan - February 17, 2012
People...plural
obviously his elves
DSAhawker - February 17, 2012
Winterfell duh
kellly - February 18, 2012
Nah man,
everything under The Wall is south.
ElliotMatheny - February 18, 2012
Is this Chisora guy any good?
I’ve never seen him fight.
Dave Strummer - February 17, 2012
No.
YPG - February 18, 2012
I really like the Klitschko brothers.
Maybe it’s because i’m not a boxing fan, and i don’t have to watch their boring (so i hear) fights. Really, all i’ve seen is this and that faceoff thing between Haye and Wladimir. I really like the way they carry themselves though.
Magaca - February 17, 2012
I don't know how they're boring
When they knock everybody out.
WheelieMonkey - February 17, 2012
Sorta like how GSP shattered Koschecks face in the most boring way possible.
Shaun32887 - February 17, 2012
Another part of Vitali's response
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
Oh damn
Chisora is going to
dieget jabbed a lot.menckenstein - February 17, 2012
You ever been jabbed by a 243 lb professional boxer?
Shit hurts.
MS_Dos_Santos - February 17, 2012
Vitali is also the “mean” brother. He’s going to put a hurt on Chisora.
Brent Brookhouse - February 17, 2012
I'm sure it is painful but saying "Chisora is going to be painfully pelted with numerous jabs for however long this fight goes. Maybe 8-10 rounds" is not as funny.
menckenstein - February 17, 2012
Have you?
’cause, me? I woulda just ran.
skeebop - February 17, 2012
I assume you've never seen Vitali fight?
Guy’s a beast.
ElliotMatheny - February 17, 2012
40 KO's out of 43 wins
ElliotMatheny - February 17, 2012
Wow, is this the better brother? How is this guy boring, does he just jab for 10 round then one punch KO’s the guy in the 11th when tired?
Kefka - February 17, 2012
He's really not boring
ElliotMatheny - February 18, 2012
Didn't say he was going to get decisioned to death in a hug match.
menckenstein - February 17, 2012
GSP is exposed
The Lethal Haze - February 17, 2012
I doubt he'll only be eating jabs.
Vitali has a mean right hand
ElliotMatheny - February 17, 2012
I'm surprised he didn't retaliate
Either he doesn’t want to ruin things by fighting before the event or he got a little stirred up.
If i was a specimen like Vitali i probably would’ve decked him. But hell, he has 12 rounds to punish him come tomorrow. And if then all he does is win a decision by jabbing his way to victory i’ll be disappointed.
MaximumWatermelon - February 17, 2012
I think he was too shocked to respond.
Tim Burke - February 17, 2012
He Did, he said
higgledy-piggledy - February 17, 2012
He'll retaliate.
He put Shannon Briggs in the ICU for two weeks with a skull that was beaten to powder and Shannon Briggs was respectful.
This is going to turn into a snuff film. Watch it tomorrow because the only other way you’ll see it is on a VHS tape from behind the counter at your local smut shop.
Steve W - February 17, 2012 via mobile
Well, he's been fined $50,000
Smart move, Del boy
Holls Hoyce - February 17, 2012
It could be worth the hype, I assume he is making millions?
Kefka - February 17, 2012
Loves this quote from Vitali
“I’m really looking forward to teaching this young gentleman a lesson,” he said. "He is from Great Britain, but he’s lacking appropriate manners
PhinsAllDay - February 17, 2012
This fight is on for free if you live in Canada! (Sportsnet)
Will be the first time I’ve watched a Klitschko fight live since Wladimir got rope-a-doped by Lamon Brewster. Good times.
medium seen - February 17, 2012
Thanks God
For Sportsnet.
Amen.
TorQus - February 17, 2012 via mobile
i hate the Klit brothers, il pass
justsomehawkeyefan - February 17, 2012
I think Vitali might be tempted to "carry" him
for some extra punishment, like Ali did to Patterson.
Dootch - February 17, 2012
Ali was good for that. He did it to Ernie Terrell too for calling him clay after he changed his name.
Duffman - February 17, 2012
god, I love the Klitschkos
it’s like they went to some bizarre Ukrainian finishing school where they had to beat the shit out of people while balancing books on their heads and learned that revenge wasn’t found in an immediate hotheaded response, but in sewing shrimp into the bottoms of curtains and stealing all of your enemy’s left shoes. two years after they wronged you.
mollcutpurse - February 17, 2012
:-)
Snake_Pliskan - February 17, 2012
hahaha
you paint a lovely picture of the klits
Holls Hoyce - February 17, 2012
Vitali will stop Chisora
The klitachkos have some of the highest ko ratios in the history of heavyweight championship boxing.
bert44 - February 17, 2012 via mobile
This slap
Is no where as big a deal as the fact that Rios vs Gamboa was made official yesterday.
bert44 - February 17, 2012 via mobile
That's a fucking fight right there
Gamboa is to small but his speed and quickness might be able to make the difference.
Gamboa is easily my favorite Boxer right now
potato623 - February 17, 2012
The Klitchkos seem pretty hard to hate.
And on a totally unrelated note, mixing a protein shake with coffee is not a good idea.
Warbreezy - February 17, 2012
That was a terrible idea on your part.
lolumad - February 17, 2012
Warbreezy is "my strange addiction" bound.
menckenstein - February 17, 2012
I guess you can take a boxer out the ghetto, but you can't take the ghetto.....
Dis foo is gonna get murdarh’d, cuz
Roland Martin - February 17, 2012
I don't follow boxing much,
but what are Chisora’s odds at winning tommorrow?
Dustin Luff - February 17, 2012
not alot he is european level at best he was getting murdered before the slap afterwards god knows what happens.chisora is also mad so he could do something stupid in the ring, he has already been in trouble for kissing, biting and other dumb things in the ring
pong102 - February 17, 2012
Hopefully it will be a good fight.
KGW - February 17, 2012
Didn’t Chisora get beat by Tyson Fury not long ago? So how the hell does he get a title fight from that?
StevenGiles - February 17, 2012
Boxing uses Strikeforce matchmaking, CONFIRMED
Rob Young - February 17, 2012
he want on to fight the european hw champ and be robbed of a win that plus he will do it on the cheap plus hw not being flush of fighters got him the gig.
pong102 - February 17, 2012
He beat the next great thing Robert Helenius
Well not technically as he got robbed. In the Fury fight he was way overweight as he was sick prior to the fight and couldn’t train properly. Everybody from his camp wanted he cancels the fight, but he still fought and paid the price. Chisora is a very good fighter, top 10 material and Im pretty sure he would beat Fury in a rematch. I wouldn’t be surprised if Vitali gets old overnight and we get an upset.
