After losing a hard-fought decision to Vitali Klitschko, Dereck Chisora managed to get into a wild brawl with David Haye at the post-fight press conference. We've already described the mayhem and now we've got video.
Haye threw the first punch after boiling over with frustration after being repeatedly insulted by Chisora who vowed to fight more aggressively against Vitali than Haye did against Wladimir last year. Chisora lost it and threatened to shoot Haye and apparently struck Haye's manager Adam Booth.
The BBC describes the action:
...during the press conference, Bernd Boente, the Klitschko's manager said: "With the bad experience we've had with British fighters we will now look for other countries.
"Contrary to David Haye, Dereck Chisora really went for it and really tried."
Haye, who was at the back of the room, said: "You don't want to fight David Haye, no?"
Boente replied: "You had an offer, you didn't accept it, now you are out. You are out. Out, out, out. You cannot talk yourself back into the fight, you have no belts. Chisora showed heart, contrary to you. You showed your toe
[Haye claimed he broke a toe before the fight]."
Chisora and his promoter Frank Warren then appeared to goad Haye into an all-British fight, with Chisora repeatedly saying "How's your toe?"
Haye hit back that Chisora was a loser, prompting Chisora to leave the stage and confront Haye, sparking the brawl.
At one point Haye picked up and swung a tripod and Booth, who was trying to break things up, was left with a wounded face.
Looks like there is a tiny bit of life in boxing's heavyweight division. Too bad the action inside the ring doesn't match the action outside the ring.

I am so glad that this happened.

I’ll take the bait. Why?
TheLastEmpress - February 18, 2012
trololol
I feel the same way
Cory Braiterman - February 18, 2012
Because it's ridiculous.
Everybody in that room made decisions that made exactly that happen. It’s fantastic.
pdl - February 18, 2012
Yes.
Brent Ducharme - February 18, 2012
Boxe sucks, they talk a ton and fight so little...
Bunch of tough guys, when it comes to fight time, they try to see who jabs their way into a decision win, the managers are even worst.
Goethe - February 19, 2012
I see that you don't like boxing.
Brent Ducharme - February 19, 2012
So we can learn the term "Glassed" in America?
FLOJO - February 19, 2012
I have such renewed respect for David Price. Way to stand out as the quiet gentlemen operator when it comes to British heavyweights.
CollegeDropIn - February 18, 2012
I've lost respect for Haye & Chisora.

From this video it appears Haye strike Chisora with a bottle in his right hand.
higgledy-piggledy - February 19, 2012
Dayum…Chisora kept yelling that Haye “glassed” him, but I never saw it until now
dancharleton - February 19, 2012
coward!
he faked with the left, bottled with the right, ran, then swung with the camera stand
weak stuff by haye
Cunny - February 19, 2012
From a bloodthirsty standpoint, that was pretty awesome.
jason18 - February 18, 2012
does anyone have the fightmetrics stats on this?
I want to see the # of effective shots thrown and how the ground game was scored :D
SheepleBuster - February 19, 2012
I saw no strikes attempted by Chisora
at least four by haye
one left hook, one right hook (with bottle), one left hook, one double overhand (with camera stand)
haye took this
the camera men didn’t respect the ground game enough to film it properly
those philistines
Cunny - February 19, 2012
I saw a bad left hook!?
F.U.B.A.R - February 19, 2012
holy shit that was crazy
way to get me interested in a boxing story line!!!
invinciblearmour. - February 18, 2012
and this
is why it’s genius
i’m by no means implying this was planned, because it wasn’t. but what this did do is sell a future fight. i’d watch haye vs chisora simply based on this story line, and i’m pretty sure i’m not the only one.
Johnathan Willis - February 19, 2012
You're 100% correct. Nobody glasses his own manager on purpose to pull a stunt.

Unabomberman - February 19, 2012
Can we get one for the post a few back where the dude rips the guy's ear off with an elbow?
That’s gotta be worthy of a LETS.
Jonathan. - February 19, 2012
Um.
Wouldn’t that risk a banning?
Unabomberman - February 19, 2012
Why would it?
Jonathan. - February 19, 2012
I dunno...
Wouldn’t it seem like we’re celebrating some really bad shit that happened to someone? I mean, those two nuts above kinda had it coming by acting the way they did, especially at a press conference (where did the bottle come from?), but as for the other dude who had his ear severed, well, that is just bad luck on him.
I’m all for gallows humor, but that’d seem kinda, um, mean.
Unabomberman - February 19, 2012
Well, the one you made was a guy getting hit in the head with a bottle, haha
Jonathan. - February 19, 2012
Good point.
But as I said above: they’re both nutbags.
Nutbags that happen to be making ungodly amounts of money.
But, yeah, I see your point…

LOL
Nutbags.

Big preflight brawl with Bowe hitting Gonzalez with a glass and a brutal beatdown in the fight that followed. Nothing really knew here, doubt much happens.

haye hit chisora with a bottle?
and someone hit his manager with a bottle as well? Or did Haye accidentally hit him too?
“HE GLASSED ME!”
Anton Tabuena - February 19, 2012
He has an odd musical voice, actually.
Chisora missed his vocation for he could’ve been a great brit-pop star.
Unabomberman - February 19, 2012
Haye had a beer bottle in his hand (fist) when he threw the first punch,
He then later in the melee grabbed a camera tripod and swung it at Chisora, missed his target (surprise!!!) and clonged his own manager with the tripod…
Manch1ld - February 19, 2012
its so hilarious....
when you put it in words, for a pro boxer to reach for objects like that to defend himself is just pathetic, especially since chirosa was all fists.

1) LOL no one stops Chisora as he walks to Haye. What exactly did they think was going to happen lol.
2) I heard a couple slow claps get botched. Made me giggle.

They all wanted the picture.
Just listen to all the shutters going off once the brawl starts.
gzl5000 - February 19, 2012
I’m conflicted. I’m extremely proud of being British right now for FINALLY lighting a fire into the HW division. And at the same time, I’m fucking ashamed that it took this kinda thug bullshit for people to care.
Tim Burke - February 19, 2012
but u forgetting....
that both British dudes failed respectively, they just good at shooting at the mouth and breaking bottles as seen in this vid, them winning that strap is what supposed to make you proud.
carmine99 - February 19, 2012
I completely agree with that. They aren’t as good as the Klits, and it’s all a big mirage. But they’re getting people to care for once, even with the BS antics. Haye/Chisora will be MASSIVE in England.
Tim Burke - February 19, 2012
You're British?
I had no idea. I thought KJ was the only Brit writer here.
YPG - February 19, 2012

Cunny - February 19, 2012
I’m not truly British. I was born and raised in Canada, but my father was English and I’ve spent an extended amount of time over there and have a British passport. So I’m like…pseudo-British.
Tim Burke - February 19, 2012

KJ Gould - February 19, 2012
Pretty much.
Tim Burke - February 20, 2012
I had no clue who most of these guys were.
They will be forgotten by me once this stuff rolls of the page. It’s hard enough for me to keep up with so many MMA fighters I’m not even going to try with Boxing. Well, unless there is a second coming of a Tyson type fighter.

What the fuck did they think was going to happen

When fighters go to confront each other then chances are that they’re gonna start fighting.
HaterSlayer - February 19, 2012
It’s crazy how many people in the room are completely ignoring it; the reaction here would be way different. I think they’re so convinced Haye and Chisora are just promoting a future fight in the UK nobody even realizes Chisora gets glassed (can we all start using that?)
Bolshevik - February 19, 2012

“He glassed me”
I didnt know there was a verb specifically used for being hit with a bottle
Full Mount - February 19, 2012
that would be "he bottled me"
glassed applies to all kinds of glass
Cunny - February 19, 2012
did he put him in a bottle?
no, there by he “glassed” him
Mohammedini Hussein - February 19, 2012
in the UK "to bottle" also means to hit someone with a bottle

just so you know, we pronounce that "varze"

Or is that more with words like ‘grass’
KJ Gould - February 19, 2012
yeah, that's stuff like grass and plant
whether the A is long (midlands/southern) or short (northern)
I thought you were British, KJ?
Cunny - February 19, 2012
I am
I have a mix of northern and southern pronunciations for words, mostly for what I think sounds better.

looks like Chisora really did want him to say that to his face
Haye had something different in mind apparently
Cunny - February 19, 2012
Looks like Haye wanted to tell him
“I’m going to whoop your ass”
ElliotMatheny - February 19, 2012
In the third picture there is a bottle opener flying towards Chisora (or Haye).
dancingChicken - February 19, 2012
GAWT. DAYUM.
ElliotMatheny - February 19, 2012
Glassed
Glassing has been going on for years in the UK – mainly in pub/bar fights. A bottle to the head counts but the traditional method is to smash the end of a pint glass on a table then thrust it into the victim’s face – usually causing horrific permanent facial scarring if not death.
Haye will be lucky if he doesn’t face charges for that. He threw the first strike and it was a bottle to the face which could’ve potentially killed Chisora (the broken neck of the bottle is close to Chisora’s carotid artery in that pic).
As for why no one stopped Chisora…are you fucking serious?
Worth - February 19, 2012
To me it looks like the bottle never broke, he just had it in hand and decided to hit Chisora with it. Dirty move, but I can’t say I wouldn’t do the same if I was enraged and three big guys come to confront me like that.
Horselover Fat - February 19, 2012
people don't usually break bottles beforehand, it can do more damage intact
blunt force and cutting combined
Cunny - February 19, 2012
There are glass fragments floating next to Chisora's head in the picture.
I’m pretty sure Haye broke the bottle on his skull.
lolumad - February 19, 2012
Maybe.. looks like water / fluids to me
Horselover Fat - February 19, 2012
that's what i mean
blunt force when it hits, cutting when it breaks
Cunny - February 19, 2012
If the bottle broke Chisora would be bleeding like a stuffed pig, and he would end up in the hospital. There was no reports of him being hurt.
Plus, you can clearly see from the picture that the bottle missed the head and it drink floating in the air.
dancingChicken - February 19, 2012
Exactly
Horselover Fat - February 19, 2012
Yeah, but what I’m saying is I don’t think it broke when it hit him either. Not 100% sure though
Horselover Fat - February 19, 2012
I had some crazy shit go down once
and tried to break a Jones soda bottle to defend myself.
After knocking it off the curb(and a few other objects), I realized that it wasn’t going to break. And it was better that way.
TheFilt - February 19, 2012
i'm surprised this is such new information to people
glad you broke it down
the first strike was a left hook, then the bottle
Cunny - February 19, 2012
This.
Who was gonna stop him? I don’t think Overeem or Werdum was there, and the Klitschkos had already headed out to the opera house.
TheFilt - February 19, 2012
I’d love to watch Cigano bitch slap all these fools.
memitim - February 19, 2012 via mobile
In a boxing match Cigano would need a bottle and a gun to beat Haye or Chisora.
geesus - February 19, 2012
This.
lolumad - February 19, 2012
In a real fight they would need a bottle or a gun to beat Cigano.

How did this Chisora fellow even get a title shot?
beeran - February 19, 2012
Because boxing is turning into a joke.
As far as I can find, however he had lost two of his last three, the losses being both title fights.
Duh_ave - February 19, 2012
Boxing is a disgrace
The sport of boxing is a disgrace to combat sports. This incident could have, and should have never stopped before it ever started. Is it common for everyone to be drinking at a post fight press conference? Why is this story on BE in the first place, it’s embarrassing to watch.
CRWHITLOCK - February 19, 2012
Entourage?
“Your entourage aint got nothin on my entourage” This coming after repeatedly saying he was going to shoot him. I think that sums the whole thing up pretty well. If they all weren’t arrested they should have been.
