Thiago Silva broke Brandon Vera's nose when they first fought last year. -- Photo by Scott Petersen for MMAWeekly
I would've preferred him to face Tito Ortiz for that retirement bout, but last night, the UFC announced that Brandon Vera will be getting his wish for a rematch against Thiago Silva. From the UFC twitter account:
"AND your wait for Brandon Vera vs. Thiago Silva rematch will be over soon - May 15th in Fairfax Virginia"
They first met back on UFC 125 last year, with the Brazilian fighter scoring an impressive decision win against Vera. Shortly after the fight though, Thiago Silva got caught for trying to submit a urine sample that was "inconsistent with human urine" so he could pass the commission's drug test.
He got fined, suspended for a year, and the fight was changed to a 'No Contest', which allowed Brandon Vera to return to the UFC.
Vera got himself back on the winning track by defeating Eliot Marshall last October, but the Filipino fighter has been calling out Silva for cheating ever since. He will finally be getting what he wants, but will Silva make him regret that decision?

Alright, Brandon. It's time to put up or shut up.
CB_MMA - February 2, 2012
you have to admire his balls
even if he deluding himself. i respect him for doing this instead of calling out tito or forrest griffing or somethign like that.
Clifford J - February 2, 2012
I've always admired Vera's balls.
Avap - February 2, 2012
Haven’t we been saying this for a while?
karmaportrait - February 2, 2012
Is this really necessary?
Thiago by being a vastly superior mixed martial artist
Our Bovine Public - February 2, 2012
This
100% agree. Holy crap. For a guy that should have been cut repeatedly by the UFC if for no other reason than never living up to his potential and/or hype, BV is making a pretty good living getting his nose broken over and over.
devbjj - February 2, 2012
As a virginia resident,
i hope this is not the main/co-main.
tired of the shit cards the dc metro area gets…
And yeah, Vera is gettin slept
inthepipes - February 2, 2012
Were you at the last Fairfax decision-fest along with me?
sexysassytravismmafan - February 2, 2012
There was only 1. But yes I know what you mean. I wasn’t there though but i really wanna hit this up unless it’s another UFN and the card is asscheeks.
Krimson - February 2, 2012
The card at Verizon center wasn't the best either
though I guess it did have a championship fight. I’d like to go to this too. I’m kinda doubting they put a PPV-level card here though.
Dave Strummer - February 2, 2012
slept?
that’s not going to happen.
Anton Tabuena - February 2, 2012
What a waste of Thiago Silva… Ugh!
Shnak - February 2, 2012
Let the Brandon Vera of old come back for this one, or was the level of competion that shitty when he was a prospect.
malo - February 2, 2012
I might remember wrong but Vera was doing alright in the standup, but was just getting muscled around too much. I hope he can fix that because it would be a good fight then.
esuohlliM - February 2, 2012
I have been a Vera fan for the longest time. I love his style of fighting but if he goes in there and gets worked like he did the last time, he should jsut retire.
What does it say about a guy whose best performance was against Randy and that was a loss. (even though I had him winning that fight)
Matt Millen draft advisor - February 2, 2012
Yup. He was winning the stand up exchanges,
but was losing badly and being out-muscled on the ground.
Anton Tabuena - February 2, 2012
he won *some* standup exchanges.
Some, Anton.
The Hamburger Pimp - February 2, 2012 via mobile
I think he won most of the stand-up exchanges.
Loot - February 2, 2012
this.
people tend to forget this bit because of how he got embarrassed on the ground.
Anton Tabuena - February 3, 2012
Hes got some balls climbing back in their with Thiago after what happened the first time
But i dont see this going any other way then south for Vera… Again.
Chin Check - February 2, 2012
Brandon Vera 6.0?
underrated ground game - February 2, 2012
surely he’s on to 7 or 8 by now.
woooburn - February 2, 2012
Will we see the old old old old old Vera?
StevenGiles - February 2, 2012
Lol
Vera 1.0 > vera 6.0
Vetr - February 2, 2012
I wonder what song Thiago will play on the bongos for us this time.
The Hamburger Pimp - February 2, 2012 via mobile
If you sponsor him he will play you any song by request. He is the Ryan Seacrest of the UFC-America's top 40.

that profile pic is pretty special
Dave Strummer - February 2, 2012
somebody linked it here so I stole it. Mighta been Earl, but I don't remember.
some schmuck in texas - February 2, 2012
I understand fighting in the dmv area
But has the ufc thought about bringing and event to Norfolk? They could use the Scope or Ted Constant Center or even Hampton Coliseum. Did fairfax have a good turnout and was the event solid for them to not consider other parts of VA?
milliondollardreams - February 2, 2012 via Android app
Cheaper to rent the Patriot Center
Like really cheap.
menckenstein - February 2, 2012
Last UFN @ Patriot Center sold out
And I remember Verizon being pretty full for Vs. show. That being said Im hoping for a strong main event here.
amoore98 - February 2, 2012
I'm pretty sure if that happened
Dana would fire them both and be done with it haha
HeadKickLegSweep - February 2, 2012
I hope Vera beats the shit out of thiago for the entire fight and wins by brutal KO with 10 seconds left in the 3rd.
I then hope Vera tests positive for PED’s after the fight.
NEW-HAMPSHIRE - February 2, 2012
Haha
I bet you root for the train at the railroad crossing and the bulls at Pamplona, too.

Skoobs - February 2, 2012
This is stupid.
Vera is getting his nose, orbital and arrogance broken in this fight.
MJB! - February 2, 2012 via mobile
My wait?
I have zero interest in this fight. Brandon gets housed.
IKiIIed007 - February 2, 2012
It was this fight that should have made it a felony for Joe Rogan and Mike Goldberg to talk about what an amazing ground game Brandon Vera has
TLow - February 2, 2012
Hope this is a good card so I can make the trip to Va.
Anyone know how long it takes get to Fairfax from Baltimore
fightersvizion - February 2, 2012 via mobile
Hour
maybe hour fifteen, depending on traffic
HeadKickLegSweep - February 2, 2012
This. If you catch shit traffic though… bring a book.
Patrick Tenney - February 2, 2012
If hell were a toilet
495 would be the bowl
HeadKickLegSweep - February 2, 2012
I’m with you on that, I used to have to use 495 to commute every day; those were dark times for me.
Patrick Tenney - February 2, 2012
Me too
and fuck 270, while we’re at it.
Now I’m on 95. Not nearly as bad.
HeadKickLegSweep - February 2, 2012
I moved around the corner from my office in Fairfax… 3 minute commute is win.
Sadly this moved me further away from my BJJ academy but that’s still only 20-40 minutes depending on traffic. My outlook on life improved significantly now that I don’t deal with 95, 395, 495, 270 or any of those other hellish numbers.
Patrick Tenney - February 2, 2012
Second verse,
same as the first
HeadKickLegSweep - February 2, 2012
Huh… Fairfax VA? So I’m assuming Patriot Center? I.e. that place next to my house?
Patrick Tenney - February 2, 2012
Can I be your friend?
Krimson - February 2, 2012
Our wait for a fight nobody wanted will be over soon!
Thanks UFC@!!!!!!!
ihateemo - February 2, 2012
I mean
if Thiago just trounces him, first rnd, I’d appreciate it.
Can’t stand Brandon “I’mma be the guy who gets a LHW and HW title at the same time” Vera
HeadKickLegSweep - February 2, 2012
I guess I will have to make the trek
Damn I hate driving through DC.
fightersvizion - February 2, 2012 via mobile
I hope this is what Vera needs to light a fire under his ass...
IMO, he looked solid on the feet in the first fight, but needs to work on keeping it there, in this second fight. Leg kicks, and straight punches, plus utilizing his greco skills to keep Thiago’s ground game at bay, and I really think he can win this fight.
Loot - February 2, 2012
On the few times on the feet, Vera looked good against Silva. On the ground though, he got handled badly. The thing that’s concerning for Vera is that against Marshall in the 3rd round, he got rocked and almost lost, and Marshall is not much of a striker. Silva does have some power in his hands.
chrisbboy82 - February 2, 2012
Thiago by murder in the 3rd degree
Brandon Vera got knocked down by Eliot Marshall and his arm broken (and he might have tapped).
SSreporters - February 2, 2012
Fishbob sure loves his savage beatings.
Ubernoober - February 2, 2012
I'm not even going to be stupid enough to try and sig bet you on this.
Vera is getting cut.
Anton Tabuena - February 3, 2012
Well this is just stupid.
I can think of 5 better fights for both of them off the top of my head. Griffin,Ortiz,Franklin,Bonar,Kingsbury,Nedkov, just to name a few.
nickrodamous - February 2, 2012
Steroids or not, Silva is gonna bust his ass again.
Sexytime - February 2, 2012
I had the idea it was painkllers, not steriods.
But then, I remember the story that suspicions were first raised when he dropped his dick on the floor at the post fight piss test, too.
