News broke earlier this week that Alistair Overeem had been charged with battery of a female in Las Vegas the weekend of UFC 141 and his fight with Brock Lesnar. The charges revolved around Overeem shoving the woman in the face "causing her to stumble back."
While details beyond that have been sketchy, UFC president Dana White did discuss the situation briefly following the UFC 143 pre-fight press conference.
"I don't think he's in that much trouble," White expressed after Thursday's press conference. "This isn't a situation where he beat somebody up, I don't think that's the case.
"He had to use the restroom, this is my knowledge of what happened, [and] security was going to take him. He said, ‘I don't need security,' and sure enough he goes over there, and his side of the story is some lady started yelling at him and swinging at him and everything else."
There's obviously a big gap between going over to the bathroom and a lady randomly yelling and swinging and "everything else" and that's where the entire story really lies.
But Dana likely isn't wrong in suggesting that Alistair isn't in "that much trouble" as this seems like a situation where the charges will be reduced significantly once the matter ends up in court. That's just the way these things tend to play out and I'd be shocked if Overeem ever served a day of the potential six months in jail he faces. It is much more likely that he sees a small fine and that's the end of things.
White also said that he fully plans on going ahead with Overeem facing Junior dos Santos for the UFC heavyweight title and does not expect this situation to impact that bout in any way.

A gap that can be easily filled with “the lady is an obnoxious, drunken idiot”.
Which, let’s face it, if we’re talking about a Vegas nightclub is probably correct.

She probably didn't even file a police report until she saw him on an advertisement somewhere.
menckenstein - February 3, 2012
Overeem was also saying on Helwani's show, that he never drinks.
Obviously I don’t know the whole story and can’t judge the situation without the facts. I just thought it was interesting at the time, that Overeem never drinks.
killphil - February 3, 2012
yea Reem said the same thing about never drinking on Voice Vs.
PeopleWatching - February 3, 2012
I thought I saw him drinking in one of the Reem episodes were he opens a bottle at a nightclub after the Brock fight.
Kefka - February 3, 2012
"Never drinks" might mean "Drinks a couple times a year"
It does for my Dad.
RolloTomasi - February 3, 2012
I'm glad he gets to fight JDS!
mannfretti - February 3, 2012
Stagger back? Maybe Overeem just has bad b.o.
That shit is criminal.

hahaha
‘no I don’t need security’ Haha I’m sure no guys will mess with him but women that’s another story.
JG87 - February 3, 2012 via mobile
I bet if it was a guy that was being that being an asshole and swinging at him, Overeem would’ve dropped him with a punch and they both probably would’ve left the nightclub, and nobody would give it a second thought.

I bet she was trying to get a piece of the Reem and got shot down, and then responded like a typical shitfaced lush would do.
Zachary Kater - February 3, 2012
lmao
I always see guys do that, get shot down then say “well fuck you then you ugly ass bitch” lol. Its comedy.

the real question is...
If Overeem is found guilty of assault (on a woman) would he fire him? Clearly that’s much worse then making a joke about rape that got Torres fired.
Obviously not much will happen from this, but it’d be interesting to see how White would react.
Fedorable - February 3, 2012 via mobile
They did with Brett Rogers.
Clearly this isn’t even remotely similar though.
Zachary Kater - February 3, 2012
Misdemeanor battery and felony assault are two very different things
Like if someone thumps you, thats misdemeanor battery. Its not a big deal at all.
warren305 - February 3, 2012
Even if he’s found guilty for misdeamor battery even the average Joe is allowed to walk out of court with just paying a fine. And yes I might know from 1st or 2nd hand experience. You decide ;)
NickaG - February 3, 2012
And yes I live in LV.
NickaG - February 3, 2012
There is no need to worry about Reem missing fights.
He was given a citation. That is a class C misdemeanor. It was probably some form of Assault by Contact. Which basically means the lady wasn’t injured but she felt that the contact was offensive or provocative. At least that’s how it is in Texas.
Crazynutts - February 3, 2012
Even though I don’t know this to be the case, I wouldn’t be shocked if a drunken woman thought she could get away with swinging at a dude and got snuffed.
discoandherpes - February 3, 2012
So we're not even entertaining the possibility
that he had more responsibility than being the victim of a drunken fan? I mean, I think it unlikely too, but to see the automatic assumption of the woman’s bad character displayed in the comments makes me feel a little sad.
DankNabbot - February 3, 2012
Not really, no. And mostly because if this was a legitimate assault case, Reem would have gotten arrested not a $100 fine.
Chris Hall - February 3, 2012 via Android app
I agree. None of us know the whole story, and these petty shots at his accuser seem a little premature/juvenile.
woooburn - February 3, 2012
We don't know the whole story...
…but all available evidence points to this being a virtual non event and to the likelihood that the victim in this case at the very least might be of a litigious/opportunistic bent.
If Overeem had actually assaulted someone (male or female) with an intent to harm that person, I think we can all agree that his likelihood of succeeding would be pretty high. That it is such a minor charge makes me inclined to believe DFW’s version of events.
Also, I say this only because I like your sig, but you should move the “e” from Tyron Woodley’s first name to his last.
Dave Strummer - February 3, 2012
Sucks for you
warren305 - February 3, 2012
Dude I've seen this happen a lot
He probably tried to cut to the front of the line because he is a celebrity and someone tried to keep it real and got uppity. Reem says shoo and then she cries assault. Dude will be fine and this is nothing.
Problem is JDS pushes back…..hard
Roman727 - February 3, 2012
Newly surfaced video of the incident:
Ubernoober - February 3, 2012
there's definitely a pattern here.
Just like Chael Sonnen killed 5 hookers in the 90’s, allegedly, the Reem likes to beat women.
merryprankster - February 3, 2012
Someone edit this
make her head fly off, then i will enjoy oh so much more lol
Roman727 - February 3, 2012
I didn't know Overeem had a role in Flashdance...
menckenstein - February 3, 2012
Normally I see the one of him humping her and then throwing her down. This chick just couldn’t get enough of him, apparently.
Zachary Kater - February 3, 2012
Can you blame her?
RolloTomasi - February 3, 2012
he’s dreamy <3 <3
