As with every major show, Bloody Elbow will be here to bring you live results, play by play and commentary for UFC 143: Diaz vs. Condit. Our live coverage will start with the Facebook prelim stream (roughly 7 p.m. ET) through the FX broadcast of the prelims (8 p.m. ET) and through the PPV broadcast (10 p.m. ET) so make sure to make Bloody Elbow your home for this event.
This post will cover live results and thoughts for the PPV main card.
The evening's main event sees Carlos Condit take on Nick Diaz for the interim welterweight title. Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Fabricio Werdum square off in the evening's main event. Former title contender Josh Koscheck returns to the Octagon to face Mike Pierce. Rounding out the main card action is a bantamweight bout between Renan Barao and Scott Jorgensen and a middleweight showdown between Ed Herman and Clifford Starks.
Make sure to come back during the event and share your thoughts as the event goes down.
The PPV is live.
Ed Herman vs. Clifford Starks - Round 1 - Herman landing some straight shots and Starks lands an uppercut that hurt Herman. Another shot and Herman is getting tagged a bit here. Starks has Herman pushed into the cage now. Not a lot happening here aside from small punches and knees to the body and they finally break. Starks with a straight right and a jab. Nice overhand right by Starks goes right over a punch from Herman. Now Herman lands a left hand. Now it's a clinch battle against the cage but Herman lands a few knees to the head and a few nice uppercuts. Herman still landing a bit here and now he gets a takedown with a little over a minute left in the round. Elbows by Herman. Starks manages to sweep and does little before the round ends. 10-9 Starks for me as he landed the better punches.
Round 2 - Herman slips to the mat after a kick but Starks wants him back up after his corner told him to try to box here. Herman with a takedown into side control and as Starks tries to get up, Herman takes the back and Herman is working for the rear naked choke and he locks it up and that's it. Ed Herman wins by submission (rear naked choke), 1:43 of round 2.
Renan Barao vs. Scott Jorgensen - Round 1 - Jorgensen moving around a bit here to start and they both flick some strikes at each other without really landing. Nice left by Barao gets in and some leg kicks follow. Hard leg kick by Jorgensen and Barao jabs him in return. Spinning back kick to the body by Barao, he tries to throw a flying knee and Jorgensen tries for the takedown but Barao is able to keep it standing. Hard jab by Barao. Barao just misses on the hook. Barao's jab is very nice. Jorgensen having a bit of trouble getting his punches in but does get a nice left hand in. Barao with a hard leg kick. Barao keeps working those leg kicks. Jorgensen clinches him and Barao spins him against the cage. Spinning kick to the head hits for Barao but just missed landing at full power. Nice two punch combo by Barao. 10-9 Barao.
Round 2 - Barao landing the jab and then a nice uppercut. Jorgensen is trying to work the jab also but he's got less length so it's not working as well as Renan's. Jorgensen keeps trying to work the jab and Barao with a nice right hand. The 1-2 combo for Barao landed three straight times. Barao ends up on top on the ground now as Jorgensen pulls guard and Jorgensen looks like he wants to attack the arm. Barao just sitting in Jorgensen's guard trying to figure out an attack strategy. Barao almost takes Jorgensen's back as he escapes to standing but can't quite get there. Body shot by Jorgensen lands. Jorgensen getting in with his punches a bit as he's forcing Barao to backpeddal. Both men land hard right hands. 1-2 combo again. Leg kick by Barao. Jab by Jorgensen. Push kick by Barao. 10-9 Barao round.
Round 3 - Leg kick by Barao. Jorgensen misses with a right hand. Jorgensen's corner is imploring him to pour it on. They exchange big shots now and Jorgensen is finding it a little bit. Left hand by Barao gets in. A bit less going on this round as both men are a bit worn down. Barao is just throwing arm punches now. Jorgensen with a nice little combination. Barao with a nice little flurry and a hard leg kick. Another big leg kick. They jab down the stretch. 10-9 Barao.
Official Scorecards: 30-27 across the board. Renan Barao wins by unanimous decision.
Josh Koscheck vs. Mike Pierce - Round 1 - Pierce right away going for the takedown and Koscheck defending against it. Pierce really just pushing into Koscheck against the cage here. Koscheck with a body shot and he tries to get away but Pierce sticking to him against the cage. Koscheck can not get away here but finally lands a punch but Pierce lands in return and they're back to distance. Pierce clinches up with him again. Koscheck now pushes Pierce into the cage. The crowd boos and Piece complains his shorts are being held. Right hand by Koscheck, Pierce with a right hand, now Pierce ands hard again and Koscheck looked hurt. But now Koscheck lands hard in return. Hard jab by Pierce. Pierce jumps in and gets hit with a left. Koscheck with a right hand and now Pierce is looking for the takedown. 10-9 Pierce I think.
Round 2 - Pierce quickly grabs a leg and drives Koscheck into the cage but can't get the takedown. Koscheck spins him around. Pierce with an uppercut and right hand. Koscheck fires back but Pierce lands the jab again. Koscheck just missing with the right hands. Pierce is bleeding badly from somewhere on his scalp. Knee by Koscheck just barely misses. Pierce tries for the takedown again and can't get it. Pierce is just sticking to him here. Pierce with some short right hands and Koscheck throws a nice elbow. Koscheck gets a warning for pushing an open hand into Pierce's face. Koscheck winging his right hand but not scoring with it so he finally drives through a takedown and gets it. Herb Dean is yelling at Koscheck to work after only seconds so he tries to jump forward and Pierce is able to stand up. Close round, I'll go 10-9 Koscheck.
Round 3 - Koscheck lands the right hand. Pierce scored a takedown but they're back up and Koscheck with an elbow. Trading strikes and an uppercut and right hand by Koscheck. Knee to the body by Pierce and Koscheck lands an uppercut. Left hand lands for Pierce. Koscheck pushing for a takedown and Pierce is defending well. And there's an eye poke by Koscheck after he got the warning and Herb Dean HAS to take a point here, right? Well, he doesn't and they continue after he lets Pierce recover a bit. Koscheck keeps throwing the hook and now digs to the body. Koscheck with a big double leg, Pierce stands up and lands an elbow and the fight is over. 10-9 Koscheck in my book gives him a 29-28 win but could go either way in reality.
Official Scorecards: 29-28 Pierce, 29-28 Koscheck, 29-28 Koscheck. Josh Koscheck wins by split decision.
Roy Nelson vs. Fabricio Werdum - Round 1 - Werdum has Nelson's back incredibly quickly and takes it to the mat. Nelson is able to get to his feet. Werdum with some knees. Nelson working an uppercut while Werdum has him in the plum. Knees to the body and now the head by Werdum. Nelson turns Werdum now and is landing some left hands. Werdum working the knees again but now Nelson is grabbing a body lock and just holding it. Nelson is bleeding very badly from somewhere around his nose. They break and time is called to check the cut on Nelson. Doctor immediately says he is fine and they continue. Leg kick by Werdum and another knee. Leg kick by Werdum now. Right hand by Werdum and another leg kick. Nelson catches a kick from Werdum and takes him down. Nelson follows him and almost gets armbarred but pops out. 10-98 round for Werdum and Nelson looks gassed already.
Round 2 - Leg kick by Werdum. Big knee to the body by Werdum and Nelson falls briefly. Leg kick by Nelson. Huge leg kick by Werdum now. Werdum really trying to pour it on but Nelson flails some punches to back him off. A few punches land for Nelson but another big knee to the body by Werdum. Leg kick by Werdum. Werdum with a hard leg kick and Nelson misses a punch. Head kick by Werdum, Nelson with a hook. Front kick by Werdum. Things are slowing down a bit. Leg kick by Werdum and Nelson misses with a right hand. Body kick by Werdum. Right hand and a knee by Werdum. Nelson lands a big left and Werdum has to move away for a second. Few punches by Nelson. And that's it for that round. 10-9 Werdum.
Round 3 - Nelson with a standing guillotine attempt early in the round. It's pretty deep and Nelson is really going for it but his arms weren't going to cooperate. Werdume with a nice flurry of strikes, punctuated with a knee to the chin. Big right hand and a knee by Werdum. Werdum jabbing now. Big front kick to the face and Nelson walks forward. Leg kick by Werdum. Werdum just worked Nelson over in this fight. 10-9 Werdum.
Official Scorecards: 30-27 across the board. Fabricio Werdum wins by unanimous decision.

Headed out to the bar in about an hour here in Albuquerque to catch this fight. Lot of enthusiasm among fight fans in the city for local boy Condit.
I think Diaz will take it, but I’ll be cheering for Condit.

I still haven't seen or heard anything about the Official BE Drinking game
Mjub - February 4, 2012
Lets figure this shit out now
So it obviously needs to involve some standard shit.
Joe Rogan saying: It’s in Deep! K-1 level etc. etc……
Goldbergisms
Crazy moves: Flying knees, gogoplatas etc…..
Anyone have some ideas?
Robert Cowan - February 4, 2012
Black fighters referred to as explosive or athletic
White fighters referred to as blue collar or hard working
Damnatio Memoriae - February 4, 2012
I just thought that was average fighters that were referred to as that
Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
Yeah, that too
Damnatio Memoriae - February 4, 2012
The game I play every time I watch UFC fights.
If Mike Goldberg goes a full minute without calling any action, that’s a shot. It’s pretty brutal.

But once he stopped fighting in hospitals and complaining about his losses to wrestlers, I did a 180.
Farthammer - February 4, 2012
he is just acting decent this week
that is all he has to do to get me on his team
Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012

Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
Not so much anymore. $10 a fifth. Used to be 6.99
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
Ten bucks is a damn good deal for a fifth
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
As far as mixed whiskeys go, Canadian whiskeys are always better. Lighter, sweeter. By itself, American bourbons.
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
Correction
By itself, scotch. Mixed, canadian.
wonderfulspam - February 4, 2012
I love the single malts personally
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
I don’t put Scotch with Bourbon or whiskey.
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
Thank god
What Scotch do you like?
My top 5:
MacAllan 1930s 12yo (smooth and full)
Lagavulin 24yo double matured (tastes like medicine but awesome)
Highland Park 12yo (most drinkable single malt I’ve ever had)
Black Bottle (an outstanding blended Scotch (I know, it’s not kosher to mentioned blended whisky))
Laphroig 12yo (just all around awesome)
wonderfulspam - February 4, 2012
Not when I used to pay 7, homie!
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
Only thing I ever bough for $7 was Pancho Villa and that was in high school
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
Price isn't a big deal really
but I’ll look into it after I finish this bottle
Mjub - February 4, 2012
If your looking for some quality but on the cheap
Try Seagrams. Good in between type of whiskey and their upper level is good too. I had a few manhattans with that to start the night off and feeling good.

Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
I have not.
I’ve done peyote and mescaline, but never encountered dmt. Lately, many people in my life claim to have encountered and tried it, but I just don’t believe that they got their hands on the genuine article. I would do it in a second. It’s quick, right? Like under 10 minutes? Have you?
John Danaher's Hair - February 4, 2012
Its amazing the guru himself McKenna is what spurred my interest it makes everything else so mild. Mescaline buttons were my best friend senior year
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
Also
beware of the fake shit lots of it going around on the east coast
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
I know.
very skeptical. dudes are synthesizing it in basements in astoria. Any hints on how to spot the real shit?
John Danaher's Hair - February 4, 2012
Price is the first thing that will tell you if its the real deal or not the stuff I smoked was orange colored crystals and you must must have a babysitter
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
Or just come up here to Toronto and buy some ayahuasca in one of the head shops. Ayahuasca and peyote are legal in Canada, and can sometimes be found in some of the better shops in tdot.
Ephemeral Artery - February 4, 2012
DMT is in a league of its own
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
Ayahuasca is a blend that usually incorporates DMT-containing plants. It’s not manufactured DMT, no, but the effects are similar if they are mixed professionally.
Ephemeral Artery - February 4, 2012
I have tried some synthetic shit that was a DMT blend and it was nothing like the real deal but maybe I need to make a trip to Canada just to be sure
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
I mean, it’s a blend of plants. Like, boiled plants that contain DMT that you drink.
Ephemeral Artery - February 4, 2012
Oh you drink it? Even more doubt now
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
It’s like a peyote brew. DMT comes from plants in the Amazon, at least it did before it was synthesized.
Ephemeral Artery - February 4, 2012
Just a drink is less effective at least in my experience
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
I can see that. It’s just the traditional way to take it.
Ephemeral Artery - February 4, 2012
Really? Any links or sources for that? Seriously curious
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayahuasca
Ephemeral Artery - February 4, 2012
Will read after the fights. Thanks man
Art_Wanderlei - February 4, 2012
No worries. Next time you’re north of the border try it out.

I think this fight could go either way by any outcome.
IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012
Winner gets Bowles?
Everyone cool with that?
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
if Barao wins he gets a shot
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
Faber gets the next shot. After TUF. So Barao’s gonna have time on his hands.
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
fuck forgot about that.
Bowles coming off a loss though? Who else is there? Torres?
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
Torres is set up with Mcdonald, I believe.
KyroJudo - February 4, 2012
Michael McDonald yeah? Im thinking Torres takes that
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
thats a step down
Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
Who's better at 135 not named Cruz or Faber?
Joe B and DJ are 125. Mizu and Wineland? The gatekeepers?
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
thats the thing
its a crappy spot to be in
Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
Bowles got handled a bit too badly by Faber.
Sam Cupitt - February 4, 2012
I like Barao because of his Strahan-esque grill
Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
The fuck are these scores coming from!?
I’m at a pitiful 39.
GreyedOut - February 4, 2012

And I went out to clear the snow off the satellite dish so I can continue to watch UFC.
Don’t doubt my dedication.
KJ Gould - February 4, 2012
you mised ESPN advertising UFC on Fox 2 coming up live next weekend
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
Yeah, that was cute.
KyroJudo - February 4, 2012
Better not be trolling ...
Otherwise, it’ll come on again soon enough. Wait, haven’t we just had UFC on Fox 2? Or is that official 1, with last year’s being ‘zero’
KJ Gould - February 4, 2012
No it had Davis/Evans and Maia/Bisping. Unless I’mdrunker than I think
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
Ah. Must be a replay.
Carry on …
KJ Gould - February 4, 2012

Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
Winslow's apologizing in advance for letting Barao

She'll let him snap his arm off and beat him in the head with it 5 or 6 times before she steps in
Jonathan. - February 4, 2012

IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012
I hope scotty is as durable as I think he is
I need him to get mollywalloped for no fewer than 15 minutes.
Dave Strummer - February 4, 2012
I'm not a fan of airbrushing...
But they could have airbrushed Jorgensen for that tale of the tape.
IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012

Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
Fuck that
I would be insulted if they did that to me

IRodC - February 4, 2012
So I'm not too familiar with Jorgensen
He’s one of those guys who gets better later in the fight right?
crazybones - February 4, 2012
Jorgensen’s strength is his GNP, I’d say. He’s got great cardio, but I’m not sure if Barao is going to drop his pace or not.
KyroJudo - February 4, 2012
hes also got a good chin
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012

Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012

IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012

Rodgers outperformed Brees in almost every statistical category.
One good game by Matt Flynn should not deter voters.
SSreporters - February 4, 2012
What? LOL
You’re high: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/stats/byposition?pos=QB
IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012
I'd say it was close
Brees has an arguement from statistical standpoint. Watch 16 games from each and I can’t believe Rodgers loses it. He plays less quarters makes less throws an yet is more important to his teams success.

Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012

any sense how the rest of the team is doing?
Dave Strummer - February 4, 2012
Andy seemed to be doing well earlier on
Havent heard from the rest but I’ll check their scores after its over
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
easy 29-28 for Kos IMO
darkotto23 - February 4, 2012
You are blind
Afrotikiman - February 4, 2012 via mobile
i don't think i'm blind, but i'll take your comment into consideration
I though pierce won the 1st mostly through clinch work, then i gave koscheck the 2nd and 3rd, for doing more on the feet, and getting more takedowns that pierce.
darkotto23 - February 4, 2012
Doing more on the feet = missing?
Afrotikiman - February 4, 2012 via mobile
check the stats man, it was a close fight
http://hosteddb.fightmetric.com/fights/index/3770
Kos outlanded Pierce 14-12 in total strikes in the 3rd, and kos landed 2 of 3 takedowns compared to pierces 1-5
darkotto23 - February 5, 2012
i scored it this too
But i was totally biased and have no problem with scoring it for Pierce
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
Don't have a problem with that.
I had the first round a draw and both of them splitting the final two rounds.
Close fight. No robbery.
a tommy point - February 4, 2012
Definite robbery
James Brady - February 4, 2012
I don't think you know what that word means when it comes to MMA.
a tommy point - February 4, 2012
No.
Very appropriate in this case. Pierce landed all of the strikes of any significance, Kos “stole” rounds with pointless takedowns.
halitosis - February 4, 2012 via mobile
The crazy thing is, I wouldn't even call it the biggest robbery of the night
sun yue - February 4, 2012

Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012

ElliotMatheny - February 4, 2012

X5-452 - February 4, 2012
I don't agree with the decision
But its definitely not a robbery.
phillyhoosfan - February 4, 2012
It's a robbery because I'm sure they gave it to Kos because of those two takedowns
James Brady - February 4, 2012
Deal with it.
Jonathan. - February 4, 2012
Hahahah, they’re SWARMING Kos.
BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
i don't care what anyone says, i'm a koscheck fan
darkotto23 - February 4, 2012
hahah they're booin the shit out of him
C.A.M. - February 4, 2012
Close fight, not a robbery, but I thought Pierce landed the cleaner strikes
ElliotMatheny - February 4, 2012
Koscheck vs. Hendricks please
SSreporters - February 4, 2012

Tats16 - February 4, 2012

sun yue - February 4, 2012
legit lol
Our Bovine Public - February 4, 2012
Yus!
darkotto23 - February 4, 2012
Boooo
In my opinion, this is why MMA will never be exciting for some people. Koscheck one the fight by taking Pierce down and hugging his legs. That’s fucking stupid and it’s not fighting.
JakeHopkins - February 4, 2012
This x 2 years + Pride rules = fewer robberies, and wrestling being exciting to the just bleed crowd.
Snatchl - February 4, 2012
Yay, 1 more fight until the fight of the year

Patrick Hughes - February 4, 2012
As close to a robbery as you can get
Without it being a robbery. Bad decision but two very close rounds.
wonderfulspam - February 4, 2012
It's a robbery and Koscheck should've had a point deduction
Herb Dean totally blew this.
SSreporters - February 4, 2012
Two separate things
It wasn’t a robbery by the judges but yes, Herb Dean ABSOLUTELY should’ve taken a point.
wonderfulspam - February 4, 2012
If Pierce got poked in the other eye too, he would've won via UD.
Snatchl - February 4, 2012
Yep, don't want to sound crazy but
the second Kos poked him I thought he was doing it to mess with Pierce, ends up getting the takedown, wins the fight
WanderChe - February 4, 2012
How many shots did Koscheck actually land? I am certain the judges gave him the fight in the third because of the takedown. As I said earlier, this i s why MMA will never be popular in my opinion.
JakeHopkins - February 4, 2012
Compustrike should reveal the disparity in head strikes.
Snatchl - February 4, 2012
it can be popular if we get better judges in
its not an intrinsic issue
Cunny - February 4, 2012
Split decisions, man, they're ridiculous
duck - February 4, 2012 via mobile
Another BS decision
Yay! No points!
halitosis - February 4, 2012 via mobile
Regardless of this decision....
Koscheck’s stock is falling in my opinion. He’ll never hold a title.
IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012
Yeah
he’s topped out.
dribblebib - February 4, 2012
Florian like in his lack of titles is Koscheck, Joe.

BVandDietPepsi - February 4, 2012
They always talk up what great submission artists fighters are...
Werdum has 3 submissions in the last 10 fights (5+ years). If that’s the best submission artist at HW, that’s just sad.
IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012
It’s Fedor inflation. One Fedor sub is worth like, ten normal subs.
Simen - February 4, 2012
It's simple economics
crazedfan - February 4, 2012
I suppose they’re referring to skill and not results.
KyroJudo - February 4, 2012
then they should say he's the best grappler
Cunny - February 4, 2012
Frank Mir would take exception to that though.
Snatchl - February 4, 2012
he could take exception to the submssion artist thing too
given how he snapped nog’s arm
also mir said werdum was the best grappler at hw this week
Cunny - February 4, 2012

Snatchl - February 4, 2012
Never ceases to amaze me how few people realize that this is actually a protest song.
a tommy point - February 4, 2012
It’s Springsteen’s fault. It’s not even a clever protest song, it’s just poorly executed and confusing.
crazybones - February 4, 2012
My girlfriend in regards to Roy Nelson: “He’s offensive in every way. I love him”
Sam Cupitt - February 4, 2012
Send her over to my house, then.
She’d love me.
Jonathan. - February 4, 2012
FAT BOY CAN JUMP
ElliotMatheny - February 4, 2012

UK MMA MAN - February 4, 2012
If he gets all the way down to LHW, can we call him Third World?
a tommy point - February 4, 2012
I’m terrified of the potential awfulness of this Nelson-Werdum fight.
phillyhoosfan - February 4, 2012

I’d rather be a Shaq-Fu fighter
Mjub - February 4, 2012
The grey in the beard is such an excellent touch.

The UFC needs to start hyping up Roy Nelson’s Kung Fu background.
KyroJudo - February 4, 2012
Kung Fu Panda Nelson
ElliotMatheny - February 4, 2012
Rosenthal is in.

Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
Rosie's not nearly as explosive as Herb Dean
crazedfan - February 4, 2012
is he actually a kung fu fighter or did Roy just tell him to say that?
Cause nothing about his style makes me think kung fu.
Tats16 - February 4, 2012
I believe you have an input for that bit of information, so Nelson said it as a joke.
KyroJudo - February 4, 2012

IKiIIed007 - February 4, 2012
Roy is a jiu jitsu black belts
Why is it so shocking that he got back to his feet?
Mjub - February 4, 2012
Not all black belts are created equal.
sun yue - February 4, 2012
Werdum is one of the more proven Heavyweight BJJ players, so it’s less so about how good Roy is and more so that he escaped at all.
KyroJudo - February 4, 2012
FOTN
dribblebib - February 4, 2012
Nice clinch
Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
You see...
when facing someone who can knee a hole in his body (Reem), Werdum actually likes to clinch.
Tonley - February 4, 2012
*who can't knee
Tonley - February 4, 2012
Big welt on Roy's left love handle from that kick.

gzl5000 - February 4, 2012

Earl Montclair - February 4, 2012
Because intentionally clinching with the Reem is how you die...
Tonley - February 4, 2012
Overeem's a bit more dangerous in the clinch than Nelson....
crazedfan - February 4, 2012
Initiate the clinch? Because Overeem is pretty good there and a little stronger than Roy

sun yue - February 5, 2012
Well, that's why I though Werdum might sub him on the ground,
Guess i underated Werdum’s striking and roy’s unwillingness/toughness for groundwork

Go Carlos Balboa
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
Put one on his chin Carlos
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
In order to love fighting.... I HAVE TO HATE IT
I’m guessing Diaz means that he has to push himself to his limits, to the point of mental torture, in order to be the best he can be, and to enjoy the benefits of being at his full potential.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Was it just me or did
that sound like Nate Diaz saying that? Or maybe it was the quote just before that one?
JakeHopkins - February 5, 2012
Well, there’s video of Nick saying it on the primetime show, so
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
did they edit the promo to have him say where you at Carlos
Frank Lee - February 5, 2012
yes
Our Bovine Public - February 5, 2012

Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
amazing chin though
Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
Did they just dub Diaz's voice?
“Where you at CARLOS.” When would Diaz have called out Carlos? That was during the GSP fight when he still thought he’d be fighting GSP right?
JakeHopkins - February 5, 2012
Yeah, they did that for the promos. Hilarious/
X5-452 - February 5, 2012

i was un-benefited by that one
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012

MaZZacare - February 5, 2012
Come on Diaz, keep the dream matchups coming
Overeem, Sonnen, and Rashad all took care of business for some amazing title fights on the horizon. GSP-Diaz would be better than all those, though.

Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
I would have preferred 7 words or Head Up but whatevs
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
It’s a draw for walkout music if Condit came out to Leonard Cohen’s The Future he would take it all the way
Art_Wanderlei - February 5, 2012
And yet, here comes Diaz to a song about Vitor’s murdered sister.
I mean, WTF?
BVandDietPepsi - February 5, 2012
It’s about Vitor’s wife, not his sister.
rabrown - February 5, 2012
Blue22AMD has to be so pissed off that Nick is fighting for the UFC Welterweight belt.
kreally - February 5, 2012
Did anyone see that rumor on another forum about Condit being "sick"
Frank Lee - February 5, 2012
he sort of sounded like it during a couple of interviews
but I don’t know if its cause i read it and it made me paranoid
Frank Lee - February 5, 2012
he dont look sick
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
if he is
he better hopes he finishes it early cause he wont be able to last 5 rounds at diaz’s pace

ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
what no Sagat or Adon
MaZZacare - February 5, 2012
Diaz wore jeans in the walk out?
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
Nick Diaz is so "Anti-Est"
that he is covered in corporate logos!
Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
How is he supposed to earn cash, then?
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
So that's why he's still in a busted Honda.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
Hondas don't grow on trees

Day Man - February 5, 2012
He doesn't have grappling credentials
But his mma jitz is definitely very good

Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
He might very well ruin this fight
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
If this ended in 10 seconds it would be the worst thing and the best thing ever
IRodC - February 5, 2012
If Condit wins by KO/TKO my $0.25 11 leg parlay will return $6000. It’s a shame Diaz wins a decision.

The One Who Wears The Crown - February 5, 2012

Finally someone using leg kicks against Diaz…now if only someone could use them against Bones….
BVandDietPepsi - February 5, 2012
Cyborg did before he dove headfirst into a takedown.
SSreporters - February 5, 2012
people forget cyborg tore diaz legs up
C.A.M. - February 5, 2012
you're nuts if you think that's what the score is.

10-9 Condit, and the leg kicks are just going to keep coming.
Gugabe - February 5, 2012
10-9 Nick
Carlos had no offense to speak of
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
really?
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
yes really
y’all have all watched enough MMA to know he didn’t win that round on the card of any judge currently living.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
if it was a boxing match maybe
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
the must system not made for that round
Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
Diaz looks off

av1o3 - February 5, 2012
He's a slow starter
sun yue - February 5, 2012
10-9 Diaz
Condit is landing those nice leg kicks but is constantly back peddling and can’t get anything else going still nice leg kicks
MaZZacare - February 5, 2012
10-10
Or 10-9 Diaz
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
10-10.
At least Carlos understands that he doesn’t want to exchange punches with Diaz. The pressure’s still making him nervous and swing wild.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
Cecil Peoples don't score leg kicks
Mjub - February 5, 2012
10-9 Diaz. Maybe.
Sweet Scientist - February 5, 2012

Sid Viscous - February 5, 2012
Not in a fight.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
Didn't think so
Sid Viscous - February 5, 2012
I really don't see how Diaz could have possibly won the 1st round
It was either 10-9 Condit or 10-10.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
He landed more
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
And kept up constant pressure
Day Man - February 5, 2012
your hate is strong
nick walked him down, landed far more shots, landed harder shots and controlled the action.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
I guess that's why BE scored it for Diaz, too.
Must be the hate.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Maybe not harder shots but definitely the other things
Day Man - February 5, 2012
he is really pounding that leg kick

Frankie Edgar wins fights with all kinds of movement like this.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Cruz too
Our Bovine Public - February 5, 2012
Carlos did zero work on head movement.
At least he’s frustrating Diaz a little with the running.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
If you're fighting Diaz
And you’re not just taking him down and stalling, you are an idiot.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
Condit needs a masterclass on legkicking from Aldo.
Still, he’s 20-18 on effective striking so far.

Except for Diaz’s left straight. Still landing hard against the fence.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
Nick bleeding?
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
i think so
Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
Condit needs to nut up and stop running like a little bitch
dajulzta - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Slowing down? He's been cycling backwards and side to side the whole fight
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
shut up goldy, we dont care about his family
just talk about the fight
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
Rogan clearly thinks Condit is winning
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
its damn close but i think he is right
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
You picked condit, though.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
uh huh
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
Everyone sees whatever they want.
My bro is telling me Diaz is winning.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Diaz is winning 209-12
sun yue - February 5, 2012
Fuck I gotta piss
Mjub - February 5, 2012
They are really slurping off Condit
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
who wouldn't want to? :)
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
i totally agree joe rogan can be annoying like that
HoopDocta - February 5, 2012
Nice combination
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
29-28 diaz
Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
Still have Diaz winning this round
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
29-29
Close fight
Tonley - February 5, 2012
29-28 Condit
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
29-29
10-10 1st
10-9 Diaz 2nd
10-9 Condit 3rd
IRodC - February 5, 2012
Same.
Tonley - February 5, 2012
3-0 Diaz
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
Not at all.
That was Condit’s round.
kreally - February 5, 2012
What fight are you guys watching? LOL
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
30-27
Condit’s the only one with anything actually going on in terms of landed strikes. Might not be pretty, but this is a sport not a cockfight.
Gugabe - February 5, 2012
2-1 Condit
Brilliant game plan
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
this
the game plan won this fight
Our Bovine Public - February 5, 2012
30-27 Condit
But who knows how the Judges have it.
garik16 - February 5, 2012
Condit 3- zip in my book
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Yea I think I have Diaz 3-0 but I see a ton of different scores
MaZZacare - February 5, 2012
29-28 Diaz
Cunny - February 5, 2012
29-28 Condit
Diaz is the better boxer and it’s showing, but Condit is doing a good job of avoiding the volume strikes and landing a ton of leg kicks.
SSreporters - February 5, 2012
This is super interesting.
Didn’t think Condit had a chance, but Diaz looks off his game.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
he is off his game because Carlos isnt letting him get on his game
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
Because Carlos always had a chance and people who wrote him off like gzl5000 must not watch him fight.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
I've watched plenty of Condit.
I’ve watched plenty more of Diaz. Carlos’ shitty boxing defense (it’s still shitty, he just hasn’t stood around to have it tested for once) plus his tendency to stand and brawl played right into Diaz’s hands. It’s the Jackson gameplan and a willingness to run for the first 2 rounds that has him ahead.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
Well yeah.
That was the implied sentence I skipped typing.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
30-27 Condit
Landing more strikes. Diaz is talking shit more than he’s actually throwing at this point.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
29-28 Condit
James Brady - February 5, 2012
Man, this is a good fight, so tense
29-28 condit for me
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
Diaz has landed the better shots imo
but Condit has landed a lot more
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
Here's the thing
Nick is snapping his head back every round, and Condit is walking backwards. That was the closest round yet. But I will bet any amount of money that the first two, and probably all three rounds are Nick’s at this point.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
10-9 Condit
29-29
crazedfan - February 5, 2012
Order the Jackson Point Fighting System only 3 easy payments of $39.99!
But wait, there’s more!

a tommy point - February 5, 2012
Jackson should have Bones teach "how to finish fights" to all the enrolled students at that camp.
El_Ee_Oh - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Scores are all over the place
THIS IS AWESOME
IRodC - February 5, 2012
Let’s say 30-27 Diaz.
I think it’s a good strategy for Condit to get in and out, but it doesn’t add up to the most entertaining style matchup.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
Biggest disparity of scores I've ever seen...I don't think anyone can keep their bias out of this haha
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
Yep.
Tonley - February 5, 2012
i think diaz is winning this fight
its close, but condit hasn’t even phased diaz yet
Basketball Smurf - February 5, 2012
29-28 Diaz.
Sweet Scientist - February 5, 2012
THIS
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
30-21 Diaz.
Gugabe - February 5, 2012
You can't be winning a fight by playing Starnes
Period. Condit is running the whole fight.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
I agree
Cant show your back that much and be given rounds.
Ionnes - February 5, 2012
how do you not back up when youre facing diaz though? Its either play smart and stick and move, or stand in the middle and trade bombs.
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
Condit backing up and running away from the cage is a bad look
crazedfan - February 5, 2012
Sticking to the gameplan
The One Who Wears The Crown - February 5, 2012
He is attempting and landing alot more strikes though
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
shin kicks
that aren’t phasing diaz
Basketball Smurf - February 5, 2012
Scoring alot more pts though
And those are endurance sapping shots more
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
True, but how does that look to the judges?
crazedfan - February 5, 2012
Condit is obviously trying to win by points, which is actually a very smart gameplan
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
This reeks of a split decision if it goes the distance
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
If Diaz stands in the center and doesn't move
Condit wouldn’t be able to hit him because he’s backing up.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
I think Condit would love that actually.
He just doesn’t want that cage behind his back.
Tonley - February 5, 2012
Condit's workrate is awesome. Winning him the fight.
lwood24 - February 5, 2012

I'm not watching the fights
but the main event must be a good one since the “JUST BLEED” fans are bitching about it.
El_Ee_Oh - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Nick has stopped throwing punches.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
He's been throwing less and less after each round
and just trying to taunt Condit.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
38-38
condit dominated that round.
Moiso13 - February 5, 2012
Dominated is the wrong word, he out pointed him with no significant damage landed by either
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
3-1 Carlos Condit
Nick has to stop him
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
40-36.
Diaz hasn’t had anything meaningful yet.
Gugabe - February 5, 2012
Stick and MOoove
Sid Viscous - February 5, 2012
3-1 or 2-2
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
GSP vs Condit is going to be so boring...points vs points me thinks
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
This is spectacular.
I’ve never seen Nick Diaz so frustrated.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
39-38
10-10 1st
10-9 Diaz 2nd
10-9 Condit 3rd
10-9 Condit 4th
IRodC - February 5, 2012
Herb Dean just took four points away
Day Man - February 5, 2012
Nick should have brought Kaleb Starnes in to spar for this fight
3-1 Diaz
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
I know you want him to trade and fight
but to compare what COndit is doing to Kalib Starnes is completely fucking stupid.
phillyhoosfan - February 5, 2012
I think Condit's gonna get the decision
Mjub - February 5, 2012
Diaz clearly frustrated
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
all hail carlos condit

Basketball Smurf - February 5, 2012
40-36 Condit
First round that wasn’t close. Condit all the way there.
garik16 - February 5, 2012
nick's aggression fading
dribblebib - February 5, 2012
39-37 Condit
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Condit says he's a warrior, I see a punk ass Dominick Cruz dancing around
WanderChe - February 5, 2012
3-1 diaz
MaZZacare - February 5, 2012
i guess this is what happens when his opponent dosen't want to brawl with him
C.A.M. - February 5, 2012
39-37 Diaz.

Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
Perfect strategy from Condit so far
Frank Lee - February 5, 2012
Whatever the outcome, Condit did not come to fight.
He came to run.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
dude thats bullshit
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
I see a lot of running around and missed spinning back fists
pedro_oliveira - February 5, 2012

boooring
mmartsy - February 5, 2012
look at Nick's face
beat the fuck up
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
he was born that way
real ugly
pedro_oliveira - February 5, 2012
Diaz is the most beaten-looking fighter ever. Even if he wins. Just saying, that isn’t criteria for winning or losing in a Diaz fight.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
You mean he didn’t come to stand and bang he came to fight
Day Man - February 5, 2012
Diaz has to finish. Watching this, I don't see how he would even threaten GSP.
pud333 - February 5, 2012
I thought Condit was exciting...he's been very anti-fight so far
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
Natural born ?
Sid Viscous - February 5, 2012
Condit's doing his best to make this boring, but he's doing well I guess
sun yue - February 5, 2012

IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
Yeah
This is a track meet
Ionnes - February 5, 2012
They figured out Nicks game
dont be mad homie
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012

Bit I wanted a fight not a track meet.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
Just stop, dude.
phillyhoosfan - February 5, 2012

it was a close fight, no matter how many times you say it the Kos vs Pierce fight wasn't a robbery
darkotto23 - February 5, 2012
i don't see how Kos could possibly have won that fight
he got boxed up, bullied in the clinch and only landed a couple of last minute takedowns that he did nothing with
Cunny - February 5, 2012
Combinations and stick and move
that’s how you stop Diaz
Mjub - February 5, 2012
Except, he didn't stop Diaz.
He out-pointed him.
a tommy point - February 5, 2012
That's still a win.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
Not saying it isn't.
He didn’t “stop” Diaz, though.
a tommy point - February 5, 2012
You mean stick and sprint?
There were multiple times when Conduit literally RAN AWAY
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
He moved away from a dangerous position back to the center
That’s not running away, that’s getting yourself in a better position.
garik16 - February 5, 2012
…and then he backed away from the center again when Diaz simply walked towards him.
Condit ran away without a doubt. However, he did win the fight because he landed a lot more than Diaz.
paythefighters - February 5, 2012
Nick Diaz is a volume puncher.
If he just hits 2 punch combos he won’t win
IRodC - February 5, 2012
You were backing up and trying to win on points, no we weren't entertained
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
No Carlos, we weren’t entertained.. you came to run, not to fight. Fuck that
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
The game plan to beat Diaz
Land a couple of strikes in a round and get on your Starnes backwards bicycle.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
True, but it only works because Nick refuses to check leg kicks, or throw them.
Snatchl - February 5, 2012
More like completely whoop Diaz' legs and bust up his face.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Diaz cuts easily
So I don’t take much stock in facial damage. Fedor is a great example of this.
Not arguing, just saying.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I wasn't just going by facial damage,
but by the amount of punches I witnessed Condit drilling Diaz’ face with.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
His head kicks landed more cleanly than any of his punches did
Barring that counter left hook that seemed to stun Diaz.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Yes, Condit did drill Diaz with some nice high kicks.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
He was landing quite a few punches when he was coming in for some kicks.
GreyedOut - February 5, 2012
beatufil technique does not equate to leaving the striking range by a multiply of 5
HoopDocta - February 5, 2012
That was a clear victory for Condit. Diaz was out-done, for sure.
KyroJudo - February 5, 2012
lol
nick throwing his hands up in the background like he won
Christopher Kelly - February 5, 2012
I don’t have a problem with Condit getting the win, but it wasn’t much of a fight.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
This
Condit proved he has the gas tank and skills to beat Diaz, but I don’t like his chances vs. GSP.
Snatchl - February 5, 2012
Ha, nick in the background raising his own hand
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
Wow.
kreally - February 5, 2012
UFC
where fighting is discouraged
pedro_oliveira - February 5, 2012
gsp is pissed
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
I would be to.
Jackson Point Fight System just cost him millions of dollars probably.
The hype for Diaz/GSP would have been off the charts.
a tommy point - February 5, 2012
*too.
a tommy point - February 5, 2012
lol at upset Diaz fans
He couldn’t implement his game plan, thus….He deserved to lose.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
equivalent of a stand up jon fitch
fergler - February 5, 2012
Condit will never get another dollar of my $
Wasted time on a track meet instead of a fight. Boring as a Fitch lay and pray.
Ionnes - February 5, 2012
BRILLIANT GAMEPLAN
Not the Carlos Condit we are used to seeing but goddamn was that strategy beautiful
IRodC - February 5, 2012
FUCKING AWESOME!!!!! 103 POINTS BABY!!!!
benten20 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Well played sir.
Snatchl - February 5, 2012
dana looks upset too
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
So you guys all hate LYoto as well, right?
Atomic Salmon - February 5, 2012
lyoto actually does damage.
fergler - February 5, 2012
What was Lyoto's last boring fight? Ortiz? Naahh, that was fun too.
Lyoto doesn’t sprint the way Conduit sprinted today.
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
You'd be surprised.
The whining was endless before UFC 94 about how boring Lyoto was. Then he added some muscle and all of a sudden people realized us fanboys weren’t talking out of our asses when we said how great his striking was.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
Lyoto tries to end fights.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
Order of bad decisions
Riddle/Thompson
Caceres/Figueroa
Diaz/Condit
Pierce/Kos
sun yue - February 5, 2012
That wasn't a bad decision
I scored it 48-47 Diaz but a Condit win was perfectly acceptable.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
Agreed with everything but Condit/ Diaz.
Carlos tooled Nick.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Nick, look at your face homie
Day Man - February 5, 2012
I'd rather see diaz vs gsp myself
But condit won that fight.
btforprez - February 5, 2012
it was not a close fight
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
Jackson strikes again!
CaptainKneebar - February 5, 2012
suddenly diaz fanboys forgot the "stockton rules"
what a coincidence.
how convenient.
burakkuburain - February 5, 2012
Keep whining, Diaz.
Punk.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
this isn't boxing
ring control is suppose to matter
Basketball Smurf - February 5, 2012
Retiring?
Farthammer - February 5, 2012
Diaz is retiring????!?!?!!!?!??!?!?!??!
Mjub - February 5, 2012

Hello post-fight conference and judo chops. Giants anyone?
The One Who Wears The Crown - February 5, 2012
Nick Diaz is retiring LOL
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
I was thinking that after the 3rd round
Knew that punk would pull this shit if he lost.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
and he retires oooo my
Christopher Kelly - February 5, 2012
front runner

dribblebib - February 5, 2012

He’s retiring. wow
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
Dammit, Nick is such a fucking baby.
kreally - February 5, 2012
WHAT THE HELL?!
SSreporters - February 5, 2012
Good riddance.
GTFO, you little whining baby.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Well, so much for Nick Diaz growing on me. You are a bitch.
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
I agree
I was just starting to like him and he pulls this shit. You disappoint me Nick
cletusvandam - February 5, 2012
He's right
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
I think I disagree with your opinions most of the time, but not on this one.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012

Christopher Kelly - February 5, 2012
Aw yeah!

Crackity Bones - February 5, 2012
Carlos Condit made Nick Diaz retire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???????????????

The Judges did
According to Nick Diaz anyways
mmartsy - February 5, 2012
Diaz is the fucking man.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012

Christopher Kelly - February 5, 2012
HAHAHAHAHA! Eat it, Diaz-holes!
Where’s Hashmo? I’ve got a crow for him to eat.
MicahtheCynic - February 5, 2012
did you eat crow
when you said theres no way in hell Fitch loses to Hendricks?
Just curious
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
Yes, this deserves a post
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
fuck this points shit i guess pride will never come back
HoopDocta - February 5, 2012
I like how Nate is just standing there like
“he did not just say this shit”
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
Diaz is being a big baby
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
He's not.
He’s just done with this shit.
Cool for him, I say.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
He's just frustrated that Condit is a smarter, more diverse fighter.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
By smarter you mean better at 50 meter dashes?
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
Shut up
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
It sucks for Nick, but so it goes.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
I hate this
Butthurt “you mean better at 50 meter dashes?” attitude though. I picked Diaz. I rooted for Diaz and I thought Diaz won it 48-47 but there is no way you can be upset about Condit winning that fight.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
I agree
It was a close fight. I’m a huge Diaz fan but the hate either way confuses me.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
no no
Conduit won, I’m not mad at the decision. GSP already proved that track and field is the way to go. I’m mad that we just saw another GSP born. A guy that used to be exciting, but turned to sprinting in order to win decisions.
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
You're not mad at the decision
Yeah, right.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
thank you
Spammy talking sense
Our Bovine Public - February 5, 2012
This. It was close.
Sweet Scientist - February 5, 2012
He probably is better at 50 meter dashes.
He’s also better at fighting, so there’s that.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
What neither you nor Diaz seem to understand is that a fighter isn’t obligated to let you hit him. Actually, it’s pretty much the exact opposite. You do what you have to to make the other guy miss.
Crackity Bones - February 5, 2012
You guys don't seem to understand
Its one thing to have good footwork to avoid punishment, and at the same time land powerful and effective shots(Lyoto Machida) and its another thing to literally turn your back and run away(Carlos Conduit)
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
Wasn't too long ago people were accusing Lyoto of that though.
Tonley - February 5, 2012
Did Carlos
get hit? No. Did he hit Diaz? Yes. So how is that different from Machida? Because he turned around? That’s just style points, dog.
Crackity Bones - February 5, 2012
Carlos did get hit
Diaz out struck him in punches. Your argument is invalid. And who the fuck are you to call me a dog?
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
The most effective fighter
is the one who does the most damage, and takes the least. Carlos absolutely fought more effectively.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Condit took a punch of big punches though
I don’t think it’s fair to paint a picture that Condit was dominant in any fashion.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Except in the fourth round of course.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
He rolled with most of the punches.
Diaz landed some good body shots, and a few good dingers to the head, but Condit definitely landed the cleaner, harder strikes throughout.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Bullshit at it's finest.
Diaz got outstruck and couldn’t adapt to deal with basic footwork and head movement. People built an expectation of him being a God level boxer and that just exposed as bullshit tonight.
doomrider7 - February 5, 2012
No he’s not. He’ll 100% be back. This is just a frustrated tantrum because Condit didn’t fall for his hands down bs and had just as good of a gastank
Day Man - February 5, 2012
He's been talking about retiring for a good while, now.
He’s been done for a while. Dude just doesn’t have the mental acuity to avoid get gamed like that.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Condit,s gas tank was very impressive...he may have run a marathon in the ring tonight...
I kid…
Congrats to Carlos…great gameplay and execution.
Snatchl - February 5, 2012
srsly
Such a childish move. I agree Condit’s plan was pretty annoying, but you can’t retire because you got out-pointed.
He’ll fight again.
Farthammer - February 5, 2012
I didn't think it was annoying at all.
It was masterful. Carlos tooled Nick.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
I mean annoying to Nick
As in, I am trying to back this guy up and run off a 9-hit combo, and he slips away after 2 or 3.
Farthammer - February 5, 2012
Yeah, for sure.
Diaz was totally annoyed. Condit is the man I thought him to be. And whether he beats Georges or not, Condit has won a UFC championship. He will always have that.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Holy shit!!!! He retires?
Sweet Scientist - February 5, 2012
WHAT?!?!
lwood24 - February 5, 2012
Shit Diaz
I totally agree. Conduit turned that into the most boring fight of the night.
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
He fought a smart game plan. He earned his win.
Be mad at your idol for failing to adapt in a tough situation.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
I thought that was a beautiful fight
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Me too
Slightly disappointing given the amount of hype, but still an awesome fight.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
I think it lived up to all the hype.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Definitely did not.
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
You're just mad.
If Diaz had done the same damn thing, you’d be hollering for joy.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
Well, that's just like... you're opinion, man.
That fight absolutely thrilled me.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
I don't know
I thought it was going to be a war. Instead I got a close technical fight.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I thought it WAS a war.
A very technical war, representing style contrasts, between two of the most talented and tough fighters on the planet.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Matt Riddle WARS
sun yue - February 5, 2012
FUCK YEAH HE DOES!!!!!
To be fair, I think that fight with Martinez could’ve gone either way. The 2’nd round was very even.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
I feel like the judges gave him round 2 for that flurry
and his little “yeah we’re warring” smile and nod are so dorky.
sun yue - February 5, 2012
I think that's fair
The technical nerd in my loved it, the just bleed guy in me was a bit disappointed. I hope that makes sense.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I could see it.
I personally was absolutely delighted by that fight.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
nah, certainly not
not a boring fight, but not one I’ll ever rewatch
some were expecting one of the best fights ever
this might not even be fotn
Cunny - February 5, 2012
It's up there for one of my top fights ever.
I love style contrasts like this.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
wow diaz thinks he won
Wow bitter whine from Diaz, can’t believe that he thinks he won, he thinks because he walks forward and doesn’t hit with any significance and his opponent does what he wants and continually hits with kicks and punches that should not win?
kieranski - February 5, 2012
and because Carlos
ran 2 miles in the octagon, hit a bunch of leg kicks that Diaz checked and missed on all his spinning back fits he should win?
pedro_oliveira - February 5, 2012
No
Because Carlos punched Diaz in the face more he should win.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
SOMEBODY CALL THE WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMBULANCE
IRodC - February 5, 2012
lol, what a fucking great night. Condit wins and Diaz acts like the crazy loon that he is and retires. haha!
Empty Thoughts - February 5, 2012
That fight was turrible.
crazedfan - February 5, 2012
You really shouldn't have to chase the other fighter around all night.
That’s not a fun sport to watch.
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
In pride it would have been a yellowcard.
Ionnes - February 5, 2012
true but he should be able to cut off the octagon and impose his will
kieranski - February 5, 2012
theres no fucken corners to cut a man off!!
HoopDocta - February 5, 2012
So you want Condit just to stand there and trade?
It’s not like he was running. He was moving and picking his shots.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
he was literally running
like turned around and sprinted
pedro_oliveira - February 5, 2012
That was when his back hit the cage
where Diaz is known to win his fights.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
Some of the time he did.
But a lot of it was running
IKiIIed007 - February 5, 2012
Only time he did
was when his back hit the cage. Considering that’s where Diaz is known to do most of his damage, Condit was being smart.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
Oh, please.
It’s not like Condit pulled a Kalib Starnes. He was whooping up on Nick’s legs.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
It’s a valid (and obviously wise) game plan, but it doesn’t make for much excitement.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
Nick taking his ball and going home.
gzl5000 - February 5, 2012
Too bad he couldn't press the reset button right before he lost

UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012

just because Nick is a fucking nutcase.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012

Unabomberman - February 5, 2012

dribblebib - February 5, 2012
Well he did run a lot
Condit won though.
AwkwardBoner - February 5, 2012
Fuck Conduit and his pity-patter points fighting. Great job avoiding a fight turning out, champ
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
Bullshit
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
Point fighting my ass.
He DID WORK on Diaz’ legs, and landed the far better shots all around.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Yeah well, leg kicks are nice and all, but unless they finish the fight or seriously impair you they don’t matter much
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
Cecil Peoples?
Leg kicks should count. I just thought that Diaz landed harder in the third to justify him winning that round.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
C'mon Horselover
“Great job avoiding a fight turning out” … seriously? I’d like to think you’re better than that.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
Yeah well you’re wrong. I’m pissed, in more ways than one. I will not accept this insolence
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
Well done on the Monty Python quote
I’ll leave it at that.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
I am childish, petty man. I’ll accept the decision, but only after bitching something fierce about it. I just don’t like when backpedaling and defense wins you fights. I had great hopes for this shit but it turned out to be a dud. Also I’m a big Diaz fan. Conduit is officially on my shit-list
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
This sums up my feelings perfectly
Art_Wanderlei - February 5, 2012
Seriously impair
as in prevent Nick Diaz, a textbook swarmer, from being able to get inside and fire off massive volume punching combinations?
Yes- low kicks are very nice indeed.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
209 Motherfucker! We retire when we lose decisions!
MicahtheCynic - February 5, 2012
He has been talking about retiring for a looong time, now.

fuck that shit
diaz won the first two rounds. 3rd round was close. 4th round all condit. 5th round close. Condit can ride his bike home for all i care
Basketball Smurf - February 5, 2012
He's riding that bike to a motherfucking title shot.
and Diaz is riding his Honda home weeping sweet tears.
MicahtheCynic - February 5, 2012
GSP will mop the floor with him
not even worth watching
Basketball Smurf - February 5, 2012
He sure has more of a chance than Diaz did.

he’ll be back
Cunny - February 5, 2012
He credited and discredited Condit in the same sentence haha
lwood24 - February 5, 2012
That was not running at all that was called circle away from someone elses punches.
What the fuck did Diaz do besides act like a clown with his little hand gestures? He’s just a cry baby because things didn’t go his way. What’s new?
40 Cal. - February 5, 2012 via Android app
He actually did run a few times.
I say- who cares? Condit tooled Diaz. He could’ve done the truffle shuffle for all I care, he comprehensively outstruck Nick.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Diaz doesn't think he lost
Sorry Diaz but your face at the end of the fight says it all.
MaximumWatermelon - February 5, 2012
If you use a strategy to beat me, you are a coward.
Wrestle him down and you didnt come to fight
Outpoint him you didnt wanna fight
You either do what he wants or you didnt wanna fight
IRodC - February 5, 2012
so much this
Our Bovine Public - February 5, 2012
also
Great, great , brilliant game plan from Jackson’s camp and good job to Condit for being able to stick with it; show’s really high fight IQ.
And an inability to adapt mid-fight by Diaz when things don’t go his way…
Atomic Salmon - February 5, 2012
I am seriously so impressed by Condit now.
Brawn and brains. Tough as hell, smart as a whip, sharp as a knife.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Diaz walks forward like a zombie all night, missing punches and thinks he won the fight, then cries about it after. Surprise.

Why stay in a sport that fucks you over?
sun yue - February 5, 2012
Or you lose in.
Dootch - February 5, 2012
How did he get fucked over?
Dude got punched in the face a lot and didn’t do anything.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
What?
He clearly lost! He got outstruck in most of the exchanges? In most decisions he’s lost, they’ve been justified. He’s just a whiny punk.
MicahtheCynic - February 5, 2012
I actually thought Diaz landed the harder shots
But its whatever. I could easily be wrong and I await the Fightmetric numbers.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
He didn't get fucked over
He lost to someone with a gameplan to beat him.
If they wrestle him down, they didnt come to fight
If they outstrike him they didnt come to fight
IRodC - February 5, 2012
Only
Conduit ran away for the majority of the fight.
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
No.
Condit punched Diaz in the face for the majority of the fight.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
No.
Conduit threw weak ass leg kicks and teeps, and sprinted every time Nick got close to him.
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
did you see Nick's face?
cletusvandam - February 5, 2012
Most of that came in the 4th.
1-3 were closer. 4was all Condit, which proved his gas tank, and the 5th goes to Diaz for threatening the choke.
That said, I can see nothing wrong with the score, but I understand the bitterness.
Snatchl - February 5, 2012
30sec
doesn’t override 4.5 minutes of dominance.
GreyedOut - February 5, 2012
See, I don't think "threatening the choke" is worth a damn.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Diaz took the most dominant position
Of a largely close and uneventful round. He definitely won that round.
juanchoD - February 5, 2012
He moved away from the cage
Where Diaz is most dangerous. Hit him and didn’t get hit.
As simple as that
IRodC - February 5, 2012
Well said.
Diaz fans should be mad at him for not figuring out a different approach other than “Cuss Carlos out and hope he gets mad enough to fall into my game plan”
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
But he did get hit
and for at least the first two rounds, and quite possibly the first three, he got hit with the harder, more meaningful strikes AND he was going backward.
If you want to be Floyd Mayweather, you can’t be the guy eating the harder shots, which Condit was.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
I'm gonna need to copy paste
10-10
10-9 Diaz 2nd
10-9 Condit 3-5
It wasn’t a blowout but I think Condit’s gameplan worked better in the later rounds
IRodC - February 5, 2012
That's a respectable card
I though Diaz had the third, but that’s just me.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I respect that
It was a close fight and we can argue about it forever if we wanted to. We just think differently.
Yeah, logic and respectfulness on BE, who’d have thunk it
IRodC - February 5, 2012
Agreed
I’m not going to lie I sometimes get a bit spirited with conversation, but I generally like the people here, so I try to be somewhat respectful.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
What I saw for a majority of the fight
Was Carlos avoiding Nick’s effort to push him up against the cage and countering back with steady diverse offense.
Hell round 4 was pretty much all Condit, but you guys wanna give Diaz the fight just because he was pushing forward? Fuck that.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
I thought Condit dominated the fourth
But I thought every other round outside of that was close.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
It was very close.
I just don’t understand this whole “AWW Condit was running!”
No, he was avoiding Nick’s biggest strength, and more power to him for doing so.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
I agree
Although I think that Condit should have probably avoided running into the cage to begin with.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Cut angles before his back hits the cage?
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
I gave Carlos round 4
but Rounds 1 and 2 frankly weren’t even all that close. Nick walked forward and connected with the better strikes.
Round 3 could go either way. Round 4 was Condit and Round 5 was close (leaning Condit) before Nick took him down, took his back and threatened submissions.
48-47 Condit isn’t appalling, but 49-46 is.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
I need to rewatch rounds 1-2 but I pretty much agree with this.
I gave Carlos 3-5, As for the scorecards…..You know how these judges are.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
No he didn't
only time he “ran away” was when Diaz was trying to pin him to the cage. That was just avoiding Diaz’s biggest strength.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
Re-positioning yourself in the center of the octagon so you wouldn’t be beat up against the cage is not running away. Condit fucked Diaz up, plain and simple.
MaximumWatermelon - February 5, 2012
He clearly lost that fight
The first two were close and then he ended up talking shit more than fighting for the rest of the fight.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
I scored rounds 1, 2 and 5 for Diaz, 3 and 4 for Condit
Neither fighter clearly won.
sun yue - February 5, 2012
I actually scored 1 for Condit and 3 for Diaz
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Ummmm because they pay you a lot of money?
Day Man - February 5, 2012
Ok, personal scoring aside,
Diaz thought he won, and believed that he lost because the fights are scored in a way that favor other fighting styles, so he thought he got fucked over. Why should he keep fighting if he feels that the system doesn’t work?
sun yue - February 5, 2012
It's his choice completely,
but he has noone to blame but himself.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
I just wanted to point out that Diaz saying he's retiring,
isn’t exactly the bitch move everyone’s making it out to be. He’s understandably upset about a decision that happened, literally, seconds before his interview.
sun yue - February 5, 2012
I don't think retiring is a bitch move for any fighter.
Disappointing, sure- but they are making a huge sacrifice of their body for our entertainment. If they aren’t happy, then I absolutely think it’s their right and responsibility to do what it takes to make them happy.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Diaz fucked himself over by only ever focusing on punching.
Evolve or be left at the wayside. This wasn’t just Condit’s win over Diaz tonight, it was a reassertion of Muay Thai’s superiority over boxing
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
No one style is overwhelmingly and inherently better than other
Nate Diaz beating Cerrone case in point.
Except I’m fully prepared to say that Nate Diaz is a better fighter. Nate Diaz can hit guys in the middle of the Octagon, and it seems that Nick has trouble with that.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Refusing to use or check leg kicks seems to be a poor decision
Snatchl - February 5, 2012
he did actually check the vast majority
though he didnt in the first round or two
Cunny - February 5, 2012
Nate Diaz has a more well rounded striking game. He actually checks low kicks.
Boxers don’t check low kicks, and if you check low kicks, your style is no longer boxing.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
What would you call it then?
I wouldn’t really feel comfortable calling it kickboxing.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I'm absolutely comfortable calling it kickboxing.
There are plenty of successful kickboxers who throw very few kicks, and make most of their success with their punching and by checking kicks. Mighty Mo, Hunt, and Sefo come to mind.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
That's a good point
So can we make K-1 Diaz a thing now?
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
no…. YESElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Hah. That just reminds me of when I was little, I used to think kickboxing was just boxing, but you could ONLY use your feet.
James Brady - February 5, 2012
I think they call that Olympic Tae Kwon Do
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
This, I agree with
Evangalista exposed holes in Nicks stand up that Condit, Jackson and Co. We’re able to exploit for five rounds, which had not been done before.
hats off to the new champ. sad to see Nick leave so much money on the table…still so many good fights for him at 170…
Snatchl - February 5, 2012
Funny thing is
I think Diaz matches up with Georges better stylistically. He could be contending for the title with one good comeback win, over a guy like Koscheck maybe.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
I would love
Diaz beating the shit out of Kos.
Dootch - February 5, 2012
Idk man, I think that would be a very very close fight.
Koscheck could take Nick down at will, and his submission skills have improved a ton.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
I think Diaz could scramble up
Would be a good fight. Kos is a tough out for anyone really. Even Alves took some shots in that fight.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Yeah, and Kos took that Alves fight on super short notice.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
But yes, I would really like to see that fight. Diaz always has great scramblefests with strong wrestlers
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Agreed
Diaz has a real talent for just rolling and creating sweep and scramble opportunities. If he doesn’t retire, maybe a fight against Rick Story or Mike Pierce would be cool.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Even though I don't think it should factor into a bout's scoring,
the way Diaz took Carlos’ back in the 5’th was absolutely beautiful.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
He's understandably upset.
sun yue - February 5, 2012
Nothing about Diaz is understandable.
Empty Thoughts - February 5, 2012
POINT FIGHTING?
The guy that landed multiple head kicks and hooks was point fighting? Jesus you Diaz fans amuse me.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
Diaz fans are almost as bad as Sonnen fans.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
worse
Dootch - February 5, 2012
Not to mention the dozens upon dozens of low kicks he chopped Nick up with.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
So Condit should just have slugged it out with diaz and gotten knocked out should he?
Called STRATEGY fella. lovely kick punch combos there as well, though diaz did look threatening when he did catch condit
UK MMA MAN - February 5, 2012
What's this? Logic?
Oh no sir, you can’t use that here, we should be mad Carlos didn’t fall into the same trap as Diaz’s previous opponents. How dare he formulate a game plan to success.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
once again diaz proves why he’s the most overrated fighter today your mad son cuz your 4 grade attitude doesnt work anymore GO PUT YOUR BIG BOY PANTS ON AND GET A REAL JOB YA BUTT!!
Mac Marley - February 5, 2012
watchcarlosrun.com
yes im mad
Art_Wanderlei - February 5, 2012
i can’t wait to see GSP pound Carlos’s face into dust.
thuggis - February 5, 2012
It's whatever
How about, UFC said “it’s whatever” if you stay or go….you’d get out wrestled by KOS, Fitch, hendricks, Pierce, etc. so you probably should retire.
themango69 - February 5, 2012
I don't know
It’s hard to hold and keep Diaz down.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
alll you diaz fans are pathetic
Mac Marley - February 5, 2012
I’m pathetic for enjoying an exciting fighters fights?
wut
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
Pretty sure he's saying all the fans whining about this fight are pathetic
And they are. Diaz CLEARLY lost that fight.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
There wasn't anything clear about that fight.
It’s like Sonnen/Bisping, it could’ve gone either way based on the first two rounds.
sun yue - February 5, 2012
I agree in this in part
Was it as exciting as we expected it to be? No
Did Diaz win? No
IRodC - February 5, 2012
This is the guy who used to argue that wrestling was bullshit.
Of course he’s going to say it’s bullshit when someone does something else that doesn’t work into his gameplan.
James Brady - February 5, 2012
Good fight by Condit
I thought Diaz won by a round because I actually gave the third to Diaz, but the fight was close and Condit deserves props on his victory.
Congradulations Condit. Please takeout GSP.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
The winner, by 5 round backpedal, Carlos “Kalib Starnes” Condit.
thuggis - February 5, 2012
Dude, really?
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
really?
Ok come on he was moving strategically, he came in with a game plan to avoid getting in trouble that is that back-pedalling
kieranski - February 5, 2012
Dude, dial down the fighter hate
You’ve been angry every time there’s been a decision you disagreed with for the past few months.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
The amount of butthurt from this fight is incredible.
Sweet Scientist - February 5, 2012
Yup
I really don’t understand it. As I’ve written, I picked Diaz, I rooted for Diaz and I scored the bout 48-47 Diaz, but stop shitting on the fighters for no reason, y’all.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
diaz got kicked so hard in the face he forgot about those in post fight speech ha
themango69 - February 5, 2012
Retirement??????
Don’t retire homie
Curtis2012 - February 5, 2012
Don't be scared (to continue fighting in the UFC) homie!
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
and at the last, my parlay dies
that money would have been nice
Cunny - February 5, 2012
Divisive fight
I honestly thought I’d be happy either way in this one, but I hate Condit’s approach, and I hate scoring that fight for him, especially 49-46.
In the first two rounds, Nick landed the much more effective strikes. He snapped Carlos’s head back in each of the first three rounds, landed the more significant strikes, and controlled the ring.
Round 4 was probably Condit’s and Round 3 was close, but the back mount was the most significant thing to happen in Round 5.
I will definitely be saving my money when GSP and Condit hook up.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
ignoring the 2 head kicks that flopped nick's head back.
carlos showed no signs of danger and reversed, so how many points you going to give for a whole rd he was getting outworked?
themango69 - February 5, 2012
I saw it much the same way.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
I need to rewatch that fight. I was sure Diaz won every round except the 4th. Not sure what to make of the various people saying Diaz was robbed, and the other various people who are being pretentious and calling them morons basically. This is where MMA scoring gets tricky.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
I had it 48-47 Diaz
But 48-47 Condit was fine, and so was 49-46 Condit. It was a close fight, it’s a matter of preferring Diaz’ cage control or Condit’s volume.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
I don't get 49-46 Condit
I get 48-47 either way though.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I thought
The 4 of the rounds were tough to call but I definitely agree more with 48-47 either way than 49-46 Condit.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
Same here.
Thought it was an automatic Diaz victory when I heard the 49-46 score. Otherwise, I had no idea who was going to win.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
yeah
it was the score that had me annoyed, not the winner
Cunny - February 5, 2012
I had it the other way around
I had Diaz winning but the only guy who could have won 4 rounds was Condit. He was the only guy who won two rounds sort of decisively.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
I definitely have to rewatch this fight.
Can’t remember the last time people were so split on the results of one.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
Sonnen/Bisping
sun yue - February 5, 2012
Honestly
I had it like this
10-10
10-9 Diaz
10-9 Condit 3-5
Diaz had his moments but Condit worked his gameplan perfectly last 3 rounds
IRodC - February 5, 2012
I had it the same way.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
Greg Jackson coached all the fight out of Condit.
thuggis - February 5, 2012
Coached the recklessness out and the win in.
Horrible coach, that Jackson is.
El_Ee_Oh - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Rashad is a natural.
dribblebib - February 5, 2012
UFC real loser...
How many PPV buys did they lose for a GSP/Diaz grudge match?
lwood24 - February 5, 2012
they lost mine
and I think it took some of the bloom off the Condit rose as well.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
agree
lwood24 - February 5, 2012
A boring Greg Jackson decision? That's weird
KidCanada - February 5, 2012
Only a matter of time before Jones starts doing this shit
crazedfan - February 5, 2012
You're crazy.
av1o3 - February 5, 2012
I'm just trollin'
:D
crazedfan - February 5, 2012
sigh
Hasn’t this meme been disproved a million times already?
GreyedOut - February 5, 2012
Carlos won round 3 and 4
That’s it.
Diaz 48-47
zzwab - February 5, 2012
lolno
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
dude you are clearly blinded by loathing
I like Diaz, but I also like(d) Condit up until about half an hour ago. Nick was landing the better, more effective shots in the first two rounds, in addition to controlling the cage.
The third was close. The fourth was a clear Condit round, and Diaz had the most notable offense in the fifth.
Honestly, it’s no skin off my ass. I’m just as happy not to pay $60 to watch GSP lay on Diaz for 5 rounds, but some of the scoring among my usually clear headed BElists was ludicrous.
Dave Strummer - February 5, 2012
Yes
TheSoundOfHockey - February 5, 2012
I think rationality is lost in this situation
People either love Diaz or hate him, so they’re going to have extreme feelings either way.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
So one submission attempt in round five gave that round to Diaz?
James Brady - February 5, 2012
I need to rewatch that last round
What I remember is Carlos starting to land good in thr third round.
zzwab - February 5, 2012
I’m surprised Diaz couldn’t catch him as he constantly ran away, being a triathlon competitior.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
Taking the back and getting dominant position should count
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Diaz controlled round 5 for approx 1:40. Condit controlled the rest of it and landed.
James Brady - February 5, 2012
It was the closest thing in the entire fight to a stoppage, which- and I might be old fashioned here -is the entire point of fighting.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
And yet it wasn’t close at all. So, again, that should immediately give him the round? Diaz saying after the fight that he’d have finished the sub if he thought he might be behind just shines further light on how full of shit he is. Condit was fine there. Certainly not a position he’d love to be in, but it came with under two minutes left, no?
James Brady - February 5, 2012
How do you mean it wasn’t close? He had back mount and the fight ended as they were tied up. That’s closer than landing leg kicks.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
He had a dominant position, but he was never close to securing a choke or a hold on the arm. And again, it was a last-ditch effort at the end of the fight.
James Brady - February 5, 2012
What difference does that make in regards to the point I’m making? Either you’re of the opinion that it was the closest thing to the fight being finished or you’re not. It sounds like you’re saying it wasn’t, and I disagree.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
In much the same way that getting to the 50-yard line instead of your own 45 is closer to scoring a touchdown, then I totally agree with you.
James Brady - February 5, 2012
Go fucking dangle from some other hoodlum’s nuts. Diaz fucking lost, convincingly.
halitosis - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Not sure if people already mentioned this...
But are they really planning on Condit sitting out for November for GSP?
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
No
They were talking pre-fight as if the interim champ would fight one fight before GSP comes back.
eyeIess - February 5, 2012
Condit wanted to fight
Cesar Gracie wanted Nick to wait.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
I wish Condit would have cut to the outside more
Instead of backing up, THEN running back. Avoid the cage entirely then fire.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Am I sad Diaz lost? Yes. Am I even more sad that the fight was not as exciting as I thought it would be? Yes. All in all respect to Carlos and Diaz
Art_Wanderlei - February 5, 2012
Congrats to Benten and Noahwob
For making it to the top 10 on Playground
IRodC - February 5, 2012
for reals
Our Bovine Public - February 5, 2012
Real Talk
I’ll make 3 quick points…
Condit had a great gameplan that he executed to perfection, but at the same time it didn’t make for an entertaining fight or at least the one that most people expected when Joe Silva put this matchup together. That being said, he deserved the win and I personally don’t think it’s as close as some are making it seem. To me he ran away with it, No pun intended.
Diaz needs to grow the fuck up and maybe get a real cornerman rather than your brother who doesn’t know shit either, you gotta be able to adjust your gameplan on the fly in this sport if the shit isn’t working out for you. He clearly was getting outpointed and you had to know that going into the 4th & 5th round. Y u no improvise?
The UFC lost out in the long run, Diaz vs. GSP for the title would’ve been on par with Evans vs. Jones and/or Sonnen vs. Silva 2 as far as the closest thing to 1M ppv buys. They’ll do decent numbers with Condit vs. GSP but only because of who GSP is already. I’m curious if they’re wishing that they would’ve just saved Diaz vs. GSP for when Georges was healthy and forgone this WW interim match.

BlackDynamite - February 5, 2012
Full disclosure
My pre-fight pick was Diaz 4th round TKO
BlackDynamite - February 5, 2012
Definitely keeping it real
Also had Diaz, but by UD
GreyedOut - February 5, 2012
What time is the post fight presser?
Art_Wanderlei - February 5, 2012
67 points
Ouch. I might be running the prospect league forever at this point.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
51 here. A lot of my picks were underdogs
The One Who Wears The Crown - February 5, 2012
To be fair, I did some stupid shit
I changed my pick from Natal by UD for no apparent reason.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
lol wowzers. Would’ve been a great night for you. But yeah, I won’t go underdog-crazy next event.
The One Who Wears The Crown - February 5, 2012
I’ll keep you company with my 55pts. They robbed Pierce and Caceres
GreyedOut - February 5, 2012
I agree about Pierce, but Caceres screwed himself with the point deduction. Sucks that I had both winning too.
Empty Thoughts - February 5, 2012
76 and as per usual I seem to have picked the under card better than the main card yet again.
At least I was one of the 22 to have picked Carlos to win and not one of the other 87 suckers who picked Diaz. (Yes, I’m taunting the Diaz crowd.)
Empty Thoughts - February 5, 2012
Also I didn't think for a second Diaz would retire
Until I heard him say that Zuffa actually pays him a lot. Then I started to worry.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Didn't see the full Fightmetric stats
But Middle Easy posted a pic of the results (I can’t seem to log into fightmetric, so I’ll take their word for it).
Basic premise is that Condit landed slightly more, but Diaz landed at a slightly higher percentage.
Mandatory Disclaimer
Fightmetric is a good tool for evaluating MMA, but should not be used as a substitute for actually watching the fight. It is neither the end all be all or entirely useless.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
They called it 48-47 Condit
Tonley - February 5, 2012
Holy shit
Cecil Peoples’ Champs fucking ruled tonight.
wonderfulspam - February 5, 2012
Anyone else watch the fight in a 3D movie theater?
the 3D broadcast had Jon Anik and Kenflo calling the action.
It was…. interesting.
Convict617 - February 5, 2012
that being said, as cool as the fights all looked in 3D, it was absolutely not worth the price of admission. 4 of us went, and for that price we could’ve ordered the PPV in HD at someone’s house and bought a 30 rack of beer and a pizza.
