Max Holloway had brief moments where he looked quite good, but Dustin Poirier was way too much for him and Poirier picked up a submission victory on the preliminary card of UFC 143. After getting it to the ground and into a dominant position, Poirier looked to have the bout won with an armbar, but Holloway gutted it out. A quick transition to a triangle spelled doom for Holloway though, and once Poirier flipped over on top and grabbed onto an arm as well, it was nighty night. The official time of the stoppage was 3:23 of the first round.

Poirier came out strong, landing some solid combinations and kicks. Holloway defended well though and landed some nice strikes of his own. Holloway attempted a flying knee that missed, but he was able to fight off a subsequent takedown attempt from Poirier. Not long after that though, Poirier did get a takedown and advanced directly to mount. Holloway scooted to the cage, but was unable to escape. Poirier locked up an armbar, then transitioned to a triangle. He flipped over on top in a mounted triangle, and wrapped up an armbar as well. Holloway had no choice but to tap.

Poirier was expected to meet Erik Koch on the main card of this event, but Koch had to bow out with an injury. Holloway is currently the youngest fighter in the UFC at 20, and entered the bout with just four career fights.

I watched Halloway live on maui recently and he has a ton of potential.

20 yrs old and 4 fights. No denying he was outclassed tonight though.

yeah for sure

my question is that he knew that the quickest way to loose that fight was to get taken down, why the hell was he throwing flying knees? Taking tactical tips from Melvin Gulliard?

Lmao. Exactly.
what I did when I saw that chain submission
