After losing a hard-fought five round judges decision (49-46 x2, 48-47) to Carlos Condit at UFC 143, Nick Diaz appears to have retired from MMA. Talking to Joe Rogan after the bout he refused to acknowledge defeat and said he was done with the sport.
"I'm not going to accept the fact that this was a loss. I've lost fights before, where, uh, ya know, like, I'm not going to accept that either. That ain't right. I pushed him back the whole fight. I walked him down. I got the take down. I'm the guy who went out on top. Had I thought I wasn't ahead, I'd have chinned in and finished that arm lock. Hey Carlos is a great guy, I'm happy for him and his family. I think I'm done with this MMA. It's been great out here. I've had a good career. You guys pay me way too much. But I don't think I'm going to get enough to keep going in this. It's been a good time. You know Cesar Gracie Jiu Jitsu. Good job Carlos, you're the man, bro."
When asked if he was really going to retire by Joe Rogan he said, "You know I don't need this s**t. You know what I mean? I pushed this guy backwards the whole fight. He ran from me the whole fight. I landed the harder shots. He ran the whole time. He kicked me in my leg a little bit. That was the way they understand to win in here, I don't want to play this game no more. I'll help out my team and my brother but I'm outta this s**t."

he’s understandably frustrated after getting robbed by a guy who Kalib Starnesed him for 5 rounds.
thuggis - February 5, 2012
Robbed my ass. Get real
JayT86 - February 5, 2012
Seriously.
Kalib Starnes ran because Nate Quarry was beating his ass. Condit circled around Diaz and tamed the bull. There is a HUGE difference.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Yeah man, he ran to safety in an intelligent fashion.
He and GSP deserve eachother. Probably not gonna watch that one.
pornflake - February 5, 2012
You sir, are an idiot.
Carlos Condit is and always has been the prototype Jackson MMA fighter. He’s an above average but not amazing athlete with the ability to finish the fight wherever it goes but most of all he knows time and place and sticks to the game plan. He’ll do his best to make it entertaining and try to finish (ie his “spinning shit”) but at the core of every fight he’s in is an incredible gameplan to worst case scenario win on points. Diaz is a solid motherfucker Daily couldn’t finish him in the most favorable high end fight of his career and Daily made his career off an above average puncher’s chance. Also as much i love watching the Diaz brothers everyone knows their not the best in the world i mean if someone said a year ago that nick was gonna beat carlos’ ass i would have said they were fucking clownshoes. Nick Diaz is the same fighter he was when he was in the UFC before he’s a great boxer who sacrifices knock out power for more reach and precision and get’s rag dolled by any wrestler worth their salt while condit is in his athletic prime and has the gameplanning of greg jackson behind him.
Scurnt - February 5, 2012
wow i'm rambling.
no more posting while stoned for me
Scurnt - February 5, 2012
They do deserve eachother.
Georges St. Pierre, best welterweight of all time, one of the best 2 fighters alive, and current welterweight, does deserve a challenger as consummate a technician and esteemed Interim Welterweight Champion Carlos Condit.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Not a robbery
But this was another fight tainted by Joe-Rogan-Commentary. He was all over Condit, it sometimes seemed he wanted to call even Nick’s combinations in favor of Condit. I agree with Diaz and felt the fight should(!) have been scored for him, but given MMA-judging-criteria as we know them, it was far from a robbery.
KGNLuc - February 5, 2012
Nah.
Condit exchanged when in the center. He just wouldn’t get cornered against the cage, and for the most part, that’s the the only time Nick was throwing.
Jay Bittner - February 5, 2012
exactly and if your that ignorant of a fan to not see that thuggis then leave with him you wont be missed
Mac Marley - February 5, 2012
there’s a big difference between going in and out of the pocket while landing effective shots, and literally running away while being content soft leg kicks.
thuggis - February 5, 2012
Well
There’s a big difference between exchanging at the center and exchanging with your back against the cage. If Nick wants to just stomp forward and cover up until people are against the cage good fighters will do this over and over. Condit was even throwing big strikes, spinning backhands, head kicks, etc. Much more than Diaz jabs.
Jay Bittner - February 5, 2012
What about his other strikes?
Besides that, Condit’s “soft” leg kicks were more significant than anything Diaz had except for body shots in early rounds.
halitosis - February 5, 2012 via mobile
yea, that'd be sweet if that happened
but that’s clearly in your imagination and now what actually happened in this fight.
Cory Braiterman - February 5, 2012
Soft leg kicks that completely slowed Diaz down
and buckled him late in the fight. Yeah, what a point fighter!
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
thuggis, this goes out to you and all the Diaz nuthuggers
Cindjor - February 6, 2012
^This Comment
is really dumb.
Warhand - February 5, 2012
While landing at least three times the amount of cpean strikes
All Diaz had was cage control. His only effective strikes of ere those to tue body in earlier rounds. His kicks were worthless, and punches to the head were laughable. I don’t see how there’s any debate here.
halitosis - February 5, 2012 via mobile
See, I don't even think Diaz had better cage control.
Sure, he was in the center of the cage, but Condit was very aware of his position in the cage, and got his back off the fence whenever he was there momentarily. Which is something that everyone Diaz has beat lately has failed to do, and paid dearly for it.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
HEY CARLOS, STOP RUNNING MOTHERFUCKER
andrew861 - February 5, 2012
Yep.
Nick couldn’t adapt. I do think Carlos was trying to finish, but Nick wouldn’t be knocked out. Against someone with a Machida-like chin, it would’ve worked.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
I disagree
Carlos has plenty of power and it was obvious he wasn’t throwing with serious intent. Nick has a great chin, but you can’t credit it for the lack of finish.
Also, I’m not sure what you meant by the term “Machida-like chin” but Machida has a very solid chin.
Pantherhare - February 5, 2012
By that I meant a non-big-Nog chin.
Not dissing Machida.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Machida
Chin?? What the fuck?
TheIrishLemon - February 5, 2012 via mobile
you're kidding!
Carlos didn’t throw with “serious intent”? just joking intent then

http://blog.fightmetric.com/2012/02/condit-vs-diaz-official-ufc-statistics.html
Day Man - February 5, 2012
At the very least, 40.3% of those were leg kicks.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
68 Leg Kicks out of that 151. So close, but does that even matter?
Empty Thoughts - February 5, 2012
I'm sorry
but I can understand why people wouldnt’ want to convert the whole 5 rounds of Diaz getting kicked around into gif form for you.
xicer - February 5, 2012
Lets not pretend Diaz didn't get Condit against the fence in those early rounds and hit him with some hard shots.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
He did in the 2'nd round.
The rest of the fight, Condit gave about as good as he got in the exchanges, and got his ass off the fence whenever he was there.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
He landed some nice shots in the third as well
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
A few punches, sure.
Clear 10-9 Condit round IMO, though
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Weren't those both from the 4th round?
Surely nobody thinks Nick won that one.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
Someone could gif the whole fight and prove the same point
halitosis - February 5, 2012 via mobile
See? Exactly what I replied to below. You get angry that people call that fight a robbery, yet basically claim Condit walked all over him. It was a close fight. I don’t know what the hell is going on with all of you.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
I never said that he walked all over him
Im saying that he didn’t fight like a bitch, and his win is commendable. The fight was close, it ‘s calling Condit a coward because your boy didn’t win that pisses me off.
By the way, this isn’t directed at you

damn
missed the fight. what a beautiful combination!

Huge Diaz fan. Would love to say Diaz got robbed, but he was just plain out-classed. I’ve liked Condit since WEC days too, a lot more than GSP. I hope he beats GSP.

MicahtheCynic - February 5, 2012
Why do you keep mocking the guy?
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
People often sing that song when someone leaves. In all seriousness though, I might miss him. He gives people something to talk about.
MicahtheCynic - February 5, 2012
It just bothers me the amount of vitriol people seemed to just be waiting to unleash on the guy.
He’s just doing what he always does, why fuck with him now?
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Because he's a fucking baby.
If he retired like a man instead of a baby, he wouldn’t get this shit.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
You clearly haven't put much thought into that.
We had some discussion around here about the traits of someone with Asperger’s, which you clearly cared very little about so, I guess, you can afford to keep your silly, unchallenged opinion. It is hardly surprising that Nick does this.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
My cousin has Asberger's.
She’s more of a man than Nick is.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
That amounts to an invalid argument.
If you exercised your empathy a little, which you don’t, or rad a little, this wouldn’t come at all as surprising. And you would understand that there is very little to mock the guy for.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
*or read a little*
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Sorry, but I know what Asperger's is, dude.
As I said, I have a family member who has it. I’ve been around it all my life.
Diaz doesn’t display much of anything I’ve ever seen of people who have it. Diaz comes off as a punk. Nothing more, nothing less.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Ugh.
You are either disingenuous, or do not pay any attention, then. A quick google search outlying the overall general traits of Asperger’s disproves that argument—especially for those without treatment. You just want to sound off, I think.
Your argument is painfully devoid of logic.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Hell, scratch Asperger's, and just look around for the autism spectrum.
Nick’s behavior fits that stuff. there’s just too much going on to chalk it to an undeveloped prick.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Nick's behavior fits that of a burn-out who's smoked himself stupid.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Again: let's do a search.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
I have been around the stuff my whole life.
I don’t need to look on the internet. I also volunteered at a school for autistic children near me in HS (part of my senior volunteer course) for a full year. I know what autistic kids are like.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
guys i don't think we should diagnose mental disorders on BE either way
kellly - February 5, 2012
So do I. A cousin of mine is is within the spectrum, too. And trust me, I know about this stuff.
But that means shit in this argument and you know it. This gets solved with aquick google search.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
enough with the broscience
If you could diagnose a personality disorder with one example and a Google description medical school would be a lot shorter.
Adamantium007 - February 5, 2012 via mobile
I find it highly annoying the position you are taking.
I have been around the syndrome all my life. A cousin who I grew up with has it. I’ve been around others who have it. Nick Diaz does not have it.
Come back when he’s diagnosed and tell me. For now, be quiet about it because you don’t know what you’re talking about. I usually like you, dude, but this is really pushing my buttons.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Nope. Go to freaking google and stop trying to tout me your aspie credentials.
I know autists too, and have been around them plenty, so what? I am convinced a google search destroys your argument to shreds.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
this is pushing my buttons too, I'm afraid.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Personal experiences >>> anything Google can tell you.
End of story.
Again, come back here when he’s diagnosed so we can all feel sorry for him.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
WHY IS EVERYONE SO GOD DAMN ANGRY?
YOU’RE MAKING ME ANGRY.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
Posturing about this stuff bothers me, I'm afraid.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
In that case, then I'm right b/c I can also claim an autistic family member.
Where does that leave us?
Google it.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
I'm done arguing this.
I’m sure you diagnose people with WebMD, too. Leave that shit to doctors or who have studied medicine.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Nice.
So, you don’t want the link, I gather.
Funny how that info happens to be there so that you may tell if someone related to you may be within the spectrum. But, oh, well.
You have a good night.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
I read the entire NIH survey about Asperger's.
I don’t think Diaz suffers from it. What do you want me to tell you? You aren’t a doctor, so shut up about something that isn’t your expertise.
As I said, if he’s diagnosed, come and rub it in my face. Until then, be quiet.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Nope. it doesn't work that way, so stop trying to do that.
In that case, your supposed familial expertise that you tried so hard to tout to me equally amounts to nothing, also. Keep your attitude in check—it’s silly.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
To be fair.
I don’t really think Google holds much weight as a medical evaluator.
Really, only a certified doctor’s opinion should matter, arguing about something that is thus far not confirmable is silly.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
All I'm arguing about is that Nick's behavioral patterns fit within the traits adscribed to the Autistic spectrum, probably Asperger's.
I said a quick Google search could confirm that, and it does, but then he brought up his cousin (who I’m assuming had some treatment) to argue against my point, which is pure dribel b/c I happen to also have a cousin who is within the spectrum (worse than Diaz could possibly be), but I’m not touting it as the final solution to the argument.
Again: IMHO, Nick does fit the criteria and he should at the very least get tested, and I’m pretty sure he would come out positive.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
It is fair to say
That Diaz’s mental state is….. questionable
halitosis - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Very much so.
And I’d rather err on the side of caution and save my shit talking for other occasions other than bashing a guy like that.

ding ding ding ding ding
^logical fallacy award.
Personal experience trumps data. Nope.
Body Triangle - February 5, 2012
as ar as I can tell his only "arguement " is that Nick wasn’t classy in defeat and acted like a prima donna. the fact that you predicted this behavior doesn’t invalidate the fact that it turns a lot of people off.
Hardy's in your face - February 5, 2012
My issue is that poeple should expect this from someone like Nick. People try to use the exact same ruler to measure everyone and that is not okay, especially when all they’re doing is bashing them.
They operate under the assumption of “Okay, I feel this guy is a dick, therefore he sucks, he’s ababy, a bitch, a quitter, or what have you,” instead of “Okay, why is this guy, who is obviously out there according to the norm, acting like this, and why should I be surprised and/or belligerent?”
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
i’m kind of a sucker for the Nick saga of “no one repsects me”, “…or i’m here to take an ass whoopin. it’s whatever”, but I can see how some people are just tired of hearing form people who don’t take responsibility for themselves.
I think Nick repsects his oppoenents and you saw how he went to hug i out with Carlos immediately after the bell. If I didn’t think he was a good sportsman or a funny ass dude then I would be tempted to tell him ( safely form my keyboard) to grow up and show some gratitude.

There's a shit-ton of people also saying "there's no way Diaz won that fight".
Don’t feel like scanning through the various comment sections to see if you’re one of the many guilty parties, but needless to say, it’s like that on both sides. This fight is one of the most controversial that I remember in the sense of people being most split on who should be the victor.

nice gif but it has zero to do with the fight and strategy i just watched. Condit tucked and ran anytime there was an exchange and won off outside leg kicks. Not saying he didn’t win not saying the strategy didn’t work but it made what could of been a classic fight. Fight of the year candidate into a yawn fest.

TheLastEmpress - February 5, 2012

Nick has been knocked down before but nothing Condit threw came close.
Pantherhare - February 5, 2012

Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Which head kicks came close to knocking Nick down or out?
He landed one flush in that Gif posted in these comments, but there was no power behind it. His intent was to win on points, not on stoppage (and he succeeded).
Pantherhare - February 5, 2012
How do you even know that?
The punch with which Fedor knocked Ishii out didn’t look like one of his trademarked haymakers and look at what happened. A kick like the one Carlos landed on Nick could have easily knocked a bunch of folk out.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
It’s cause he had a personal talk with Condit after the fight, and Condit, himself expressed that he threw that kick to get a point scoring win. He also revealed that he wanted to have a boring performance and hates fudge sundaes.
fedorade - February 5, 2012
And if Nick had won, nobody would be talking about his retirement speech. Neither happened, so I’m not sure what your point is.
Pantherhare - February 5, 2012
I was very entertained by this fight. Seeing and underdog win is always fun. Don’t know what yawn fest you’re talking about as i saw two guys going at it for 5 rounds with one being more well rounded.
MaximumWatermelon - February 5, 2012
Dude, did you actually expect him to finish Diaz?!?
Ha…hahaha…. HAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAAH!!
kreally - February 5, 2012
He ran I guess
but why would he just stand against the cage and get punched. he simply moved out of the way
NEW-HAMPSHIRE - February 5, 2012
Nick Diaz loses a decision to a wrestler: “That guy didn’t come to fight, he was just holding me down”
Nick Diaz loses a decision to a smarter fighter : “That guy didn’t come to fight, he was just running away”
So the only people that wanted to fight Nick Diaz are the ones he wins against?
blutspender - February 5, 2012
More like the ones that engage him head on.
Dude has a one-track mind. For him, that’s fighting, he doesn’t understand the point game, at all.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Tough shit for Diaz then...
No sympathy for a shit-talkin, sore-losin quitter who “doesn’t understand the point game” in a sport that requires understanding of the point game.
Kid Kimura - February 5, 2012
That's a way of looking at it.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Nick Diaz was never held down by a wrestler
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Nick’s first UFC run would like to have a word with you
xicer - February 5, 2012
Sherk couldn't get him down
Sanchez got him down consistently but didn’t really hold him down. The Karo fight was close.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Fogive me if I'm wrong
But isn’t that how Sanchez beat him?
halitosis - February 5, 2012 via mobile
You've never seen the Sanchez fight, I assume?
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Sanchez was able to grab his back and outgrappled him
But not really hold him down. Diaz was still scrambly as fuck.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
For sure.
Diego definitely kept Diaz on his back and punished him from top position though.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
I just wonder how the rematch in the hospital will play out!
Oh wait, Condit won’t need to go to the hospital.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Thank You Nick
Now please get your shit and get the fuck out.

Nick Diaz is a crybaby lil bitch and a sore loser to boot...
mthom - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Such a class act…if he is retiring, I’m not exactly gonna be heartbroken over it.
Very smart strategy by condit. He really started to get loose in the mid rounds, and I had it 49-46. If GSP comes back fully healthy, I think he beats condit. And I think he wouldve ground fucked diaz…
Ryjo - February 5, 2012 via mobile
That was....
…the most Nick Diaz thing I’ve ever seen. Get schooled by someone more disciplined, act like a punk at the end of every round, and finish by quitting. Beautiful.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaPysXyndJ4
Jeteyes - February 5, 2012
The only counter to Diaz’s game is to wrestle him to the ground or do what Condit did.. it wasnt running it was not being caught against the cage where Diaz pushed him.. when they were in the center Condit was owning him.
souperman321 - February 5, 2012
Exactly
People don’t see it. Diaz had nothing at center, he would only throw after walking Carlos into the cage.
Jay Bittner - February 5, 2012
Aw, Nick
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Machida style FTW apparently
Zakk - February 5, 2012
Carlos Condit ran for five rounds, instead of standing with his back against the cage getting hit in the body and face until he’s knocked out, LIKE A MAN.
You know who else bothers? Anderson Silva. What’s the deal with that punk and all his head movement? A real fighter will fight in whatever way is necessary to give Nick Diaz a win.
PlantingaFan - February 5, 2012
logic fail
Comparing Anderson Silva’s head movement to Carlos’s marathon retreat fest is illogical…and oh yeah, Silva stays in the pocket and knocks people out (the ultimate achievement in fighting).
oousty - February 5, 2012
The point is
Striking and then running away when your back is against the wall, or wrestling him down to the ground and avoiding his submissions, is the way to beat Nick Diaz for the vast, vast majority of fighters.
Aside from Anderson Silva, who’s much bigger than him anyway, no one is going to beat Nick in a pure striking way when their back is against the cage. And most fighters don’t have the power to hurt Diaz, let alone knock him out.
So, if you’re an extremely good fighter who isn’t the best wrestler in the world or simultaneously uber-powerful, possessed of incredibly technical striking and endless cardio, and gifted with a granite chin, what are you to do? The only thing the vast majority of fighters could do against Diaz is precisely what Carlos did.
The similarity to Silva is that fighters have to use what wins them the fight. Godlike head movement or running away when your backed up against the cagewall is one of the few ways to win a stand-up fight against Diaz.
PlantingaFan - February 5, 2012
lol the ultimate achievement in fighting
Body Triangle - February 5, 2012
i feared something like this might happen if the decision didn't go his way
In Nicks mind the only way to beat him is to submit him or knock him out.
He’s mentioned in several interviews that he sees himself only having lost 1 MMA fight and that was to Jeramy Jackson.
We all know Nick isn’t the most mentally mature person out there, i guess this is just his way of responding to the events that just transpired.
I’ve never been a huge Nick fan, but i always enjoyed watching him fight, i really hope he does come back, the sport is better with him and his brother in it.
darkotto23 - February 5, 2012
Diaz will be back, triathlons don't pay shit.
It’s just Nick being Nick + Ragequit.
Carlos didn’t fall into the Diaz trap simple as that.
But I am enjoying the butthut form the Diaz nuthuggers ooof!
Better put the crew of middleasy on suicide watch too while at it.
Maclovio Williams - February 5, 2012

carlos the natural born run away from your apponent
That was pathetic of Carlos. He turned his back to nick 6 times. It’s a fight and Carlos went in there not to fight but just to get points and run away. Carlos will be a good tune up fight for gsp. natural born killer is about the last thing he is. When has a title winner been boo’d and couldn’t even smile from winning. You all on nick and for.why. the natural born backwards runner. The only thong he killed was his Nike’s. Go Jackson. Great fight plan. Just kill off the audiance so we won’t have to worry about Ufc becoming a monopoly.
NW Okie - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Exactly. Diaz much bigger draw and exciting fighter than Conditions. Last thing we need is another WW champ that kills the momentum of every card with point fighting.

Dootch - February 5, 2012
i am a diaz fan, but!!
Really now how many times did he turn and run? If he’d ko’d nick sub’d him or at least fought him I’d be ok with it. But dude he ran. Point blank. If your apponent can put his hands at his knees and walk you down that’s just wrong. I truely blame Jackson. If Carlos would of even ducked a punch and countered that would have been great. But he didn’t. He ran threw a kick and ran. He was scared homie. Hahaha. Sorry for grammar extra.. I’m on my phone
NW Okie - February 5, 2012 via mobile

I picked Diaz to win and even scored it for him but all this crying robbery and complaining about running is ridiculous.

the state of mma judging is what it is and i don’t blame him for playing the game. that’s why people like jon fitch have careers but i don’t hey all the ppl hating on diaz’s comments. how he feels, isn’t that how 99% of fans feel when they come to watch a fight?

Butthurt Diaz fans need to realize once Diaz loses he is full of excuses and is retiring because he lost to the better fighter tonight. He got a step up in competition and lost he needs to go back to strikeforce and be a big fish in a little pond
chavez_26 - February 5, 2012
Where are those fans?
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
I am huge Nick Diaz fan
But Condit had the perfect gameplan tonight. Stayed off the fence, and unloaded combos on Diaz. I think I had Diaz winning 2 and 5, the Condit easily.
FreeLightningLee - February 5, 2012
It just seems silly that asshats are crawling out of the woodworks trying to pick fights with fans.
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012

Enough of the butthurt comments already!
Condit beat Diaz with an incredible gameplan. A gameplan that no one else figured out. Everyone bitching about a bad decision are just pissy that Condit didn’t stand straight and trade with him, but that’s how Diaz beats everyone. It was even shown that Condit was throwing more strikes.
kreally - February 5, 2012
They’re probably more pissed because of Condit’s reputation as an aggressive murderer in the cage. Plus, Diaz is one of the most polarizing figures in MMA, MMA fans are the most sensitive sports fans, over-reactive emotions are bound to spew.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
It's not as if Diaz wasn't hit...
Everyone knows Diaz can take hits, and he took a bunch. Just because Diaz didn’t go down doesn’t mean Condit wasn’t trying to KO him.
Kid Kimura - February 5, 2012
Whatever it is, it's fucking annoying.
Nick is virtually impossible to knockout. Carlos couldn’t come in and try to finish him. It wasn’t the most exciting fight, but it was an outstanding performance by Carlos.
kreally - February 5, 2012
I sort of feel like neither guy made that extra effort when realizing the fight was up for grabs.
Zachary Kater - February 5, 2012
Everyone needs to calm the fuck down.
It wasn’t a robbery, nor was it was a clear win for Condit. It was a close fight and as the fighter on the losing end of the decision being interviewed, literally, seconds after the decision was announced, Nick was naturally upset.

sun yue - February 5, 2012
Either way?
Honestly, I think you’d have to be blind to score that fight for Diaz.
Jay Bittner - February 5, 2012
In my opinion Diaz landed the more significant shots in rounds 1 and 2
I gave Condit 3 and 4, and Diaz 5
sun yue - February 5, 2012
Nah
I only had Diaz winning round 2 and I had 5 close, but think Carlos edged it.
Jay Bittner - February 5, 2012
I had Diaz with 2 and 5
But I agree with you, I can’t see giving him the win. It’s possible for a fight to be very close, and yet for only one outcome to be reasonable.
PlantingaFan - February 5, 2012
I agree
It was a close fight, but I see no way of scoring it for Diaz.
Jay Bittner - February 5, 2012
Round 1 was razor close. Condit didn't really land that much more than Diaz
and I think Diaz landed better shots, so I gave him round 1.
sun yue - February 5, 2012
Hahahaha.
Sure. Could have went either way.Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
Explain. How did Condit run away with those first two rounds?
sun yue - February 5, 2012
By landing betger hits
All I saw Diaz get were body shots. In this fight, Diaz had exactly zero head strikes of note.
halitosis - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Then where did that black eye on Condit’s face come from? I think Condit won the fight, but you’re going into hyperbole.
Pantherhare - February 5, 2012
I'll have to watch it again, but I think Diaz landed the better shots in rounds 1 and 2
sun yue - February 5, 2012
sun yue, my faith in you has dropped considerably. It wasn’t that close at all.
andrew861 - February 5, 2012
Rounds 1-3 were close
with arguments centering around quantity of shots versus quality. Condit clearly won round 4 and I think I can safely give Diaz round 5.
sun yue - February 5, 2012
Sun is exactly right. 1-3 were close and 5 should go to diaz. Any other 3 judges could have easily scored it for Diaz…. and I picked condit.
It was a very close fight just not very satisfying. I thought Carlos had to win the 5th to win the fight so I was dissapointed he didn’t attempt a TD and get in some GnP.

Christopher Kelly - February 5, 2012

Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
Diaz could'nt adapt....
Thats the mark of a great fighter, if you gameplan ain’t working, change it up. Condit fought a frustrating but smart fight, would’nt allow himself to get swayed but Diaz’s taunting and stuck to his gameplan. If Diaz wanted to win, he would’ve tried changing things up, but could’nt or would’nt, there was really no sense of urgency till the 4th round. Oh well….
ZediiZ - February 5, 2012
Yeah, that was my take as well.
When he couldn’t bait Carlos with his antics, he never really tried anything else. By the 4th, he was noticeably slowed and was just creeping forward afraid to throw until Carlos did, and yet couldn’t counter him to any degree. Nick’s kicks looked much improved to me, but everytime he tried to mix them in, Carlos hit him with punches.
Kwisatz Haderach - February 5, 2012
isn't it obvious why people are upset?
we expected nate diaz vs cerrone, may the best man win. carlos already came in with the notion that he couldn’t win that way. thats why the fight sucked.. since when was condit such a cautious defensive fighter.. he changed his style. win or lose diaz fights his way. i’d rather pay to see that.
Elron Hubburd - February 5, 2012
Yeah,
Fuck Carlos. Throwing head kicks like a bitch.
Carlos Condit is Starnesesque in his cowardice, huh Joe.
Oh, and I’m a huge Nick Diaz fan.
underrated ground game - February 5, 2012

That Carlos should have gave up on a strategy that would have earned him his dream of being champ….Just so he could lose to Nick in an entertaining fashion?
Yeah, makes sense….On wait, no it doesn’t.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
so you're saying
that if carlos fought the aggressive style that got him to this point he would’ve lost?
Elron Hubburd - February 5, 2012
Not necessarily but....
History has shown that Nick thrives off others aggressions in order to wear them down. Carlos knew this and thus, created a game plan to counter it….And it worked.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
honestly
i thought they would go at it and carlos could’ve still won. it’s like gsp. he could win by being more aggressive as well but he chooses not to.
Elron Hubburd - February 5, 2012
TBH
When has anyone won against Nick by being super aggressive?
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
if i was carlos
i would’ve done the smart thing and did what he did, the sport being what it is,
but it was definitely a let down from the potential amazing fight i was hoping for.
Elron Hubburd - February 5, 2012
I thought it was a great fight.
But some fights aren’t for everyone, it is what it is.
R.J MacReady - February 5, 2012
maybe it was the way they promoted it
but i thought it was a very similar set-up to nate diaz vs cerrone. that’s what i was expecting. you gotta admit neither fighter got to go “all out” so to speak. it was clinical. strategic. good fight but compared to how the fight was hyped, the potential, what the fighter’s usual styles are and what they said from their own mouths…it was a let down.

It's so amusing how this fight has divided BE into three camps:
“Diaz is a bitch and Condit won by a landslide”
“Condit is a bitch who ’Starnes’ed’ his way to victory”
“It was a close fight, why is everyone so mad?”

I just got a chance to peruse the BE comments on this and I’m so disappointed. That was a fight that you can argue all year long who won and there would still be more to say about it. Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
By the reading of the stats, Condit won.
Hence, the system scoring it for Condit.
Jonathan. - February 5, 2012
The system says that he wins because of the leg kicks, I don’t think that’s a valid representation of the fight. That is my opinion.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
Condit landed the more damaging blows, yes?
Unabomberman - February 5, 2012
In the fourth, possibly the third. I thought the first two were Diaz fairly easily (easily in that it was a close fight, but I scored them for Diaz without much consternation). I thought the fifth was won by Diaz on the choke attempt.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
I don’t think it was a blow out. IT WAS AN EXTREMELY CLOSE FIGHT. One that I’ll rewatch tomorrow. But I think Diaz did enough to win. I thought Diaz looked pretty bad out there, btw, considering.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
*my interpretation. Leg kicks are important if they’re fucking with a fighter’s mobility.
Ephemeral Artery - February 5, 2012
The people to the left and right are clearly Diaz fans
I’m the dude in the middle

Before this degenerates any further
Is anyone really going to be happy if Diaz retires? The guy always comes to fight and has given us some of the most exciting moments in the history of the sport.
I understand not liking his attitude or anything (even though I find I can really relate to him sometimes) but the guy is everything you guys say you want in the cage.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
i'll be happy if I don't ever have to hear his nonsense again
if he fought mute, I’d like him a ton more.
Cory Braiterman - February 5, 2012
You don't have to listen to him talk.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
That’s pretty much exactly how I feel.

I have nothing against people who become obsessed over a fighter, and have an irrational sense of support for them, but what I’ll never understand is people who can waste emotional effort actually hating an athlete they’ll never know much about. Kos, Bisping, Diaz, Chael, the list goes on and on. Until you at least meet these guys once in your life, your opinion on where they stand as human beings mean literally jack shit to me. Go watch pro wrestling if you’re into people’s character more than their actual fighting abilities.

Yep. MDH excepted, of course.
Hardy's in your face - February 5, 2012
No.
I’m pretty much in full hate Nick Diaz mode for acting like such a gutless bitch, but I don’t want him to quit like that. I’ll get over it. There’s so many good fights for him, and I was just back to liking him until this.
Kwisatz Haderach - February 5, 2012
I like to watch Nick fight, but...
He just didn’t fight a smart fight. He got beat by a fighter with a smarter, more well executed gameplan. Basically Nick is complaining that Condit didn’t stand in front of him flat-footed and trade. This would be like Peyton Manning complaining that the opposing team didn’t crowd the line of scrimmage the whole game so he could throw over top the defense.
I had it 49-46 with Nick winning round 2, but can see 48-47 with Nick winning rounds 2 and 5. Sure Nick is a great fighter, but the sport isn’t about who is the toughest, it’s about who’s best. I thought Condit clearly won this bout.

I have always said that I would be happy to see Diaz go.
But just like his announcement of retirement, it was an empty statement. I don’t like him one bit and couldn’t help but laugh at how childish he was after the fight, but Diaz is a very exciting fighter and a very talented fighter. The sport is not better off without him, even if he is No. 1 on my list of fighters I dislike.

Diaz fans are hilarious in this comment section, it’s like they slept during the fight and all made the same dream.
spectaa - February 5, 2012
Really?
I’m a huge Diaz fan, but I could see the fight going either way. I think a lot of people feel that way.
The first two rounds were really, really close but Diaz controlled the action and landed the better shots IMO.
The 5th round was close until Nick took him down and took his back for 1 minute.
I don’t see how this is so outrageous or why everyone is being so condescending about it.
People are basically saying that Diaz fans or anyone who saw it for him are stupid, blind, nuthuggers, etc. I think its getting ridiculous. Especially seeing how a lot of us are really level headed and rational about it.
You’re one of them most level headed and rational people on BE so I’m surprised to hear you say that.
TheFilt - February 5, 2012
I'm pretty sure he's not talking about you
probably all the Diaz fans that literally came from no where. It’s getting to the point where it feels like some people are as bat shit crazy as Nick.
