Bloody Elbow's Matt Roth was at the post post-fight press conference "scrum" where Dana White spoke to the assembled MMA media for a good 20 minutes. The first installment is above, parts 2 and 3 are after the jump.
Highlights include:
Dana's response to fans and media complaining about Carlos Condit's game plan against Nick Diaz.
I completely missed that. Still, last I’d heard, Kos said he’d quit fighting before fighting Fitch. I don’t think a change in camp counteracts all the time they’ve spent together training in the past. People have been clamoring for this fight forever, I just have my doubts about it ever coming to fruition.
That surprised me too. I also heard that Dave Camarillo left AKA in 2011. I wonder what’s going on in AKA?
With Koscheck, I worry that he’s going to train at a gym/camp where he’s going to be the very best guy there, and therefore, his skills will have plateaued (even though he seems to have hit his plateau already).
go watch WWE if you want entertainment first and sport second. The UFC is a SPORT and the goal is to win if you don’t like it, tough shit go to the bar and watch the fights
You and all your ilk suggesting that the UFC should be fixed don’t understand what a sport is. Dana has put down the hammer in the past when fighters haven’t taken a fight seriously (Anderson Silva vs. Demian Maia). But you can’t punish a fighter who legitimately wins just because you wanted him to stand against the fence and trade with the guy who is probably the best in the sport at beating people up against the fence.
Stop being a butthurt just bleed guy. Sports aren’t fixed and they don’t always have the predictable/marketable outcome.
The main card was mostly grinding decisions. If UFC continues to evolve towards urbane point fighting , then they should also consider being more selective of how many ppv’s they expect to put on per year.
I don’t see how people can get mad and blame the UFC if the fights fall below expectations, at this point, if you’re going to blame anybody for anything, blame the fighters that disappointed you. The UFC has no control or influence of what goes on once the octagon doors shut, so everything after making the fights is out of their hands.
That being said, I thought Condit won that fight, Nick was incapable of cornering Condit consistently to land shots and that was his downfall. Nick badly needs to develop proper footwork, which he should have learned from the same people who taught him how to box. If he had good foot work, he would have had an easier time cornering Condit. I also believe that bad footwork also applies to Nate too since he adopts Nick’s boxing style, and if he gets past Jim Miller, and FE is still champ after 144, he might get beaten the exact same way since Edgar’s foot work is one of his greatest advantages over other fighters.
And the answer of “the fans” couldn’t of been more wrong. I enjoyed the fight but it didn’t deliver what I had expected thanks to Greg Jackson’s game plan for Condit. Sure he “won” off points, but Diaz was never in danger of getting finished like Condit was at the end of the fifth. Diaz fell into Condit’s trap, but how is that going to work against GSP when he implements the same strategy? I suspect Condit will spend 5 rounds on his back and it will be another exciting fight where the fans win.
It think Dana over-estimates the popularity of Carlos Condit
When he guarantees GSP v. Condit will be a big fight. To be honest, I doubt that fight will ever happen. They need to set up Diaz v. Condit 2, and hopefully Diaz will get him this time.

what i got from the post fight press conference wasn't that Josh was leaving AKA all together
As far as i know he just moved his camp full time to AKA Fresno from AKA San Jose (where he used to train)

id like to hear dana's thoughts on how well in general strikeforce HW imports are doing
he really discredited any HW out of the UFC, however right now you have The Reem and Werdum getting the Ws against top HW opponents (Brock and Roy).

Dana has no control over how the fights go.

Happy I didnt pay for this card

Everything about this card on paper was great
What did the UFC do wrong?
Scott Whitaker - February 5, 2012
The UFC put on an event that had great match ups

The whole who wins the Diaz/Condit fight?

If that happens
I’d be happy
ZapRowsdower - February 5, 2012
Why
would he implement the same strategy vs GSP as he did vs Diaz? That would be moronic.
But yes, that fight could certainly be a stinker.
