The UFC has released a new promo video for UFC 144 in Japan featuring a lightweight title fight between Frankie Edgar and Ben Henderson. The bout will be held at the Saitama Super Arena on Sunday, February 26th 10 a.m. local time but through the miracle of the international date line will air in the U.S. on pay-per-view on Saturday, February 25th at 10 p.m. ET.
There are reports that as many as 15,000 tickets have been sold for the event, which would make it a huge hit. It's also been reported that the Japanese ad agency Dentsu has booked this as a "sold show," meaning the UFC will not be shouldering the financial risk of this event.

Hopefully Frankie has learned not to waste his energy trying to submit Benson.

barzillatron - February 5, 2012
I came on purely to say
that this promo needs more footage of Hunt.
El_Ee_Oh - February 5, 2012 via Android app
And my personal favorite.

AusEagle - February 6, 2012
Sorry left off the title.
AusEagle - February 6, 2012
Yep...Overeem has absolutely no chin...
Chris Groves - February 6, 2012
Nice promo
even nicer card. Damn that’s stacked.
blodpalt - February 5, 2012
Is Lenne Hardt going to be there doing amazing intros?
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
If it did and both Bendo and Rampage won
I just might be able to die happy
But then I listen to people complain about condit and it is all ruined
DarthKitty - February 5, 2012
Nah, that would be way too exciting. Can’t have that on a UFC show
Horselover Fat - February 5, 2012
I skipped out on buying 143 so I could buy this one
MaZZacare - February 5, 2012
Smart Man.
This card is stacked and there will be no shenanigans like last night.
nickrodamous - February 5, 2012
Isn't Garcia off this card with an injury?
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
you are correct thanks!
Nate Wilcox - February 5, 2012
Sweet!
Kefka - February 5, 2012
No problem.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
-I think Bendo takes this. He’s got a great style to beat Frankie.
-Gomi vs G-Sot was going to be awesome =\
- Akiyama is getting subbed
- Am I in the minority wanting to see Lauzon upset Pettis? I love Lauzon, but I know Pettis gets a lot of love around here.
- I hope to see Boetsch’s redneck judo progress enough to compete with Okami, but Okami is damn solid fighter so that probably won’t happen.
Tim Bernier - February 5, 2012
Also,
Mark Hunt.
Tim Bernier - February 5, 2012
Lauzon upset is what I’m hoping for
Art_Wanderlei - February 5, 2012
How is Akiyama getting subbed?
Jake needs to get it to the ground to do that and Akiyama has amazing tdd. Aki has this decision in the bag. Hell, he might even get the (T)KO.
40 Cal. - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Akiyama is getting old
He’s taken a lot of damage, he’s shown less than great cardio in the past few fights…and this is his first cut to 170.
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
Like Chris Groves said, cutting to 170 isn’t going to help his cardio. It’s terrible. So bad that he was subbed by Chris Leben. Shields’ takedowns are stellar, and I think he makes Akiyama work, drags him to the mat, and finishes it.
Tim Bernier - February 5, 2012
Cutting might help his cardio
He might come in lighter and in better shape.
And Shields does not have great takedowns. He doesn’t blast guys with double legs, he usually gets into the clinch and eventually drags guys to the ground.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I think akiyama has his work cut out for him
Shields is too good a fighter to lose 3 in a row
unambig - February 5, 2012 via iPhone app
I think Edgar has the perfect style to beat Bendo.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
I love how they have to spell it out – “…making him the best lightweight in the world” – because no one has any idea who he is or why he’s headlining a card.
crazybones - February 5, 2012
True dat good sir.
Kefka - February 5, 2012
This is such a rock solid card.
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
sold show
could someone explain this to me in a little more detail? ithe UFC has to be putting up some financial risk, right? if the UFC isn’t putting up the money then who is, and what’s their incentive to do so?
wamarsh - February 5, 2012
essentially
the rumor is that Dentsu, an ad agency in Japan, cut a deal with the UFC whereby they pay the UFC a flat fee, then Dentsu would try to handle the licensing to Japanese TV and selling of ads to Japanese sponsors. The rumor is that Don Quixote, a major Japanese retailer that was also the big money backer for Sengoku, is the main sponsor who’s paying most of the costs.
They haven’t managed to get on Japanese TV for this event which is pretty amazing as in the past their MO was to buy time on TV Tokyo when they couldn’t get a regular TV deal.
It seems likely that the increasing Japanese crack down on the Yakuza and the perception that all combat sports are Yakuza linked is making MMA something that the networks won’t even air if they’re getting paid to do it.
Nate Wilcox - February 5, 2012
and if the rumors are true
It’s Don Quixote valiantly trying to keep Japanese MMA alive. They really are a good guy in this whole sad saga.
Nate Wilcox - February 5, 2012
When Sot was still on the card this had the most fights I had ever been interested in for a card, now I am not sure. Still at least 7 fights I have interest in, thats a lot, compared to 143 were there were 2 fights I was interested in(god that card was lame).
Kefka - February 5, 2012
man im so torn over the main event...
i love bendo and frankie, so i shall not pick a winner.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
goddamit I love this card.
I’m more excited for this than I was for 136.
Also, apologies in advance to my CW teammates. My Sexyama fanboyism won’t allow me to pick against him. Shields should win pretty easily but I can’t go against The Sex Wagon.
TitanFan2K - February 5, 2012
.
Earl Montclair - February 5, 2012
My boy Bendo will go to work
Elitex10x - February 5, 2012
I love the prelims also, I get to see Hatsu, Gomi and KID
and Leonard’s not fighting Zhang anymore he got injured, it will be Nam Phan vs Tiequan Zhang.
Elitex10x - February 5, 2012
If Rampage doesn't destroy Bader
or at least slam him once, I’m going to be very upset.
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
his slamming days are past him...
he doesn’t kick or any other stuff but throw hands, and bader is built like a truck, i doubt page can muster up strength to slam him.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
I wonder if he'll try though
being back in Japan and all.
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
i think he will knock bader out cold before it comes to that.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
i have no more faith in page i think bader going make him go night night
BIGNAT - February 6, 2012
He kicks now and then, and mixing up stuff a little more recently, but alas no slams.
Kefka - February 5, 2012
Page did attempt to slam Machida.
El_Ee_Oh - February 5, 2012 via Android app
Bader can't hang wit rampage
Rampage is about to run through Ryan bader.. Once he beats bader that will get him back in the mix..
psychoblack - February 5, 2012
this guy knows whats up
Tats16 - February 5, 2012
page wont matter much in LHW title picture even if he gets past bader. jones moving up to HW is the only scenario, and that aint happening any time soon.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
maybe fight thiago silva on fox if he wins with no damage

Elitex10x - February 5, 2012
that would be awesome...
but i think thiago needs a tune up fight first.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
Silva never needs a tune up fight.
Kefka - February 5, 2012
God dammit Psychoblack
Don’t come in here and root for people. The last guys who supported lost badly.
MicahtheCynic - February 5, 2012
One of the few times I objectively agree with psychoblack...
Twilight zone status
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
Is this PPV going to be live
or tape delayed?
ScoreCardOTN - February 5, 2012 via mobile
it will be live
it’s starting at 10am in Tokyo so it can air at 10 pm in NYC.
Nate Wilcox - February 5, 2012
America, fuck yeah!
ElliotMatheny - February 5, 2012
guns, fake tities, tanks, light sabers, everything i was promised in GTA4. the American dream.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
Live
They will fight Sunday morning in Japan so it can be Live Saturday night in America.
Elitex10x - February 5, 2012
I love the promo
They finally got some Frankie Edgar knockout footage
Full Mount - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Also
Frankie is gonna outpoint the fuck out of benson and you wanna know why that’s ok?
Because this time I will be expecting it
Full Mount - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Uh, no
Henderson is going to tag Edgar at some point and hurt him, then he will go for a submission, which Maynard refused to do in BOTH fights.
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
i think frankie showed he has power...
in his hands in his last fight, i wouldn’t be surprised if he drops bendo and gets a TKO stoppage.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
Man...I don't know about that
For starters Benderson has never been TKO’d or KO’d…he’s been dropped a few times but comes back pretty well.
He is also pretty huge compared to Frankie. I would say Edgar is one of the smaller LWs and Benson is one of the larger ones.
Henderson also pushes a pretty furious pace…I just don’t see Edgar winning.
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
You think Edgar can exploit Bendo's defensive striking and win a decision
Bendo was dropped by Clay Guida my dude.
discoandherpes - February 5, 2012
Yeah, but he pretty much recovered instantly
and I just don’t see Edgar tagging him bad enough to hurt him for an extended period of time.
I also think Henderson fights in a way that will completely permit Edgar from winning a decision with his jab and jive style.
Henderson has been very aggressive in his last few fights.
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
he was always that aggressive...
until pettis neutered him, then he came to the UFC and got his mojo back, he definitely is worthy of the strap, but i will never pick against frankie ever! that lil dude has made me eat my own words like no other.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
Me too
But when he takes two(or three) attempts to soundly beat someone, and being blasted horribly in his last two fights…I refuse to have confidence in him.
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
I laugh at your assumption
Ben Henderson got hit, in the face, by Clay Guida, and was dropped
Frankie’s gonna shock everybody except me this time
Full Mount - February 5, 2012 via mobile
so selfish!
i think frankie will be the favorite on paper going in, and have tons of supporters including me.
carmine99 - February 6, 2012
the only problem i see is bendo hurts edgar
he is done he is not going do with grey did he will get a sub.
BIGNAT - February 6, 2012
Let it be known that Mark Hunt has multiple main card appearances on UFC PPVs
Yep. Mark Hunt has more main card fights than Joseph Benavidez.
Sick card from top to bottom.
SSreporters - February 5, 2012
Benavidez will get to shine on FX
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
Damn, that is a great card.
someguy22 - February 5, 2012
Very very very solid card.
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
yeah i agree very nice card
the prelims look great aswell, im not normally 2 interested in all prelims fights but these are good
Kronic - February 5, 2012
I look forward to UFC learning how to photograph black men
mollcutpurse - February 5, 2012
bah a shot is a shot frankie looks dark in his picture to i don't hear you crying about that
all the shots look horrible imo the only person who has a good one is tito with his massive head lol
BIGNAT - February 6, 2012
such a sick card...
I think Bendo is gonna be sporting that LW strap after this one. That fight is definitely on point to deliver some great action. Hell, this whole card is stacked from top to bottom. I’m excited. WAR HUNT!
capt insano - February 5, 2012 via mobile
Amazing that the prelim is targeted towards the Japanese fans
and the main event is for everyone else
Matthew Roth - February 5, 2012
besides the main event....
am i very excited to see who comes out with a W in pettis/lauzon, pettis had so much promise in WEC, the UFC LW div can really use him as a future contender if he keeps winning.
carmine99 - February 5, 2012
There is no way Henderson wins.
Guida gave him a run for his money and Edgar is a better version of Guida, with superior hands. Henderson is going to get out boxed and probably knocked out.
Warbreezy - February 5, 2012
He's also a smaller version of Guida
who doesn’t seem to be able to take punishment as well as Guida.
And I don’t think he’s as physically domineering or ‘imposing’ as Guida is either.
Also, Guida put up a decent effort…but I wouldn’t say he gave Henderson a legitimate ‘run for his money’…but our definitions of that may just differ a little.
Chris Groves - February 5, 2012
What is your definition of taking punishment?
Because I think Edgar withstood a ridiculous amount of punishment in the second and third fights with Maynard. We’re arguing about semantics here. Edgar is one of the most durable guys in MMA. He is able to withstand and recover from the kind of beatings that, outside the octagon, would carry an attempted murder charge.
Guida dropped Henderson at least and I remember him scoring his take downs pretty effectively. It wasn’t a razor thin decision, but I remember it being relatively close. The problem for Henderson is that he isn’t a crazy finisher, and he is fighting a guy who is known to be incredibly hard to finish, while using his effective boxing to outpoint his opponents.
I don’t think Henderson will put Frankie away and I don’t think he’ll be able to keep up with his speed, boxing and work rate.
Warbreezy - February 6, 2012
only thing different is if bendo gets edgar in the same position as grey he is winning
BIGNAT - February 6, 2012
Rampage is gonna tap Dat ass
JayT86 - February 5, 2012
I'm a huge Henderson fan and I hope he takes the belt but
It’s really hard to root against Frankie. I like Bader and thought he was a good prospect but I didn’t think he was anywhere near title contention or ready for Jon Jones. He just didn’t/doesn’t have the skills to compete at the highest level yet and putting him in there with Rampage is terrible for his career because it could kill his confidence if Jackson dominates him which i fully expect. I think Bader should get a chance at redemption against Tito because imo he would take a rematch.
40 Cal. - February 6, 2012 via Android app
I never understood people who
. . . . thought Bader was a good prospect.
Haisenberg - February 6, 2012
Who'd a thunk we'd be seeing Henderson fighting for the title while Pettis is a main card opener?
After all the hype from their post fight. I wonder how much longer before a rematch. You know the UFC would love to hype that again given the opportunity.
NickRingp4pGOAT - February 6, 2012
It would be crazy if they rematched for the UFC title, Pettis again challenging for Henderson's belt.
Chris Groves - February 6, 2012
It almost feels like the UFC could be setting that up. They are both fighting on the same card and if they both win who knows if they would try to fast track Pettis.
NickRingp4pGOAT - February 6, 2012
I wouldn't mind that at all
I rather like rematches.
If Pettis wins, and Henderson wins…It’d be cool if Henderson called out Pettis after winning the title.
It’s the only blemish on his record in years…it’d be nice to see him avenge it.
Chris Groves - February 6, 2012
Or rather, *try* to avenge it.
Chris Groves - February 6, 2012
There is already a good backstory to sell it.
I guess we have to wait and see what Edgar and Lauzon have to say about it before too much speculation. That being said if all the pieces fall into place a callout by Henderson would be outstanding.
NickRingp4pGOAT - February 6, 2012
Yeah, I believe Lauzon can beat anyone in the first round
He brings hell then. I’ll never count that guy out to win a fight.
And as much as I don’t really care for Edgar, he could definitely win this fight…it’d be interesting to see him win a fight decisively on the FIRST try for once.
Chris Groves - February 6, 2012
why would henderson call out pettis?
if was bendo i would call out miller. pettis needs to call out melvin if he wins get a win over the new one trick pony of the ufc.
BIGNAT - February 6, 2012
But Henderson just beat Miller so there is more in a Pettis rematch. Work that Edgar/Maynard angle.
I’m just not sure Pettis has enough momentum to be at the top of the contender short list without Henderson calling him out specifically. I can only see a Pettis/ Melvin match if Pettis loses to Lauzon.
NickRingp4pGOAT - February 7, 2012
this fight card is solid
can’t wait for Tiequan Zhang to fight
