Former Strikeforce middleweight champ Cung Le lost to Wanderlei Silva at UFC 139, but he doesn't intend to go out like that. Le, who was just awarded a $5,000 Twitter bonus from the UFC tweeted yesterday to his 21,000 followers:
The 39-year-old Le has been mostly focused on acting in Hollywood productions for the last few years but it looks like he intends to get a few more UFC fights in before Father Time forces him to call it a career. Le was undefeated in a decade-long combat sports career before getting KTFO'd by Scott Smith in 2009. He beat Smith soundly in their 2010 rematch then moved to the UFC and got KO'd by Silva.
Le made a reported $350,000 for his UFC debut and presumably will be earning a comparable amount for a second bout with the promotion.

Not him again
If he really does get another fight, put him in there with Belcher
IRodC - February 9, 2012
or Bisping
IRodC - February 9, 2012
I like the Bisping idea
The battle to control range alone would be worth watching.
Patrick Wyman - February 9, 2012
Bisping won’t take that fight. It does nothing for him if he wins. Now’s the time for Bisping vs Belcher.
Machiel Van - February 9, 2012
Very true
But would they match up a guy coming off a win with one coming off a loss?
Patrick Wyman - February 9, 2012
Though I could totally see Bisping go for a takedown and GnP his way to a TKO victory.
jammushi - February 9, 2012
Not easy to get Cung down, though
He’s still a pretty good wrestler.
Patrick Wyman - February 9, 2012
Anderson Silva, duh
Earl Montclair - February 9, 2012
Cung Le vs. Chris Leben (whenever he gets back)
ludakrish - February 9, 2012
I like it
quite a contrast in striking styles
mburtoni - February 9, 2012
I second.
Machiel Van - February 9, 2012
+2
djfivenine - February 9, 2012
I like it.
Sweet Scientist - February 9, 2012
This is perfect – gives Cung Le time to wrap up his movie stuff and train properly for the fight. And Leben will stand and bang.
ludakrish - February 9, 2012
Leben would hurt him.
discoandherpes - February 9, 2012
Bad.
He might land some cool shit but he doesn’t have the power to stop Leben and when Leben catches him I don’t think he has the chin to survive it.
Sweet Scientist - February 9, 2012
I think he can use his kicks to keep distance from Leben’s hands. I don’t think he has the power enough in his hands to stop Leben, but with kicks I think he does. He gassed horribly in the Silva fight and if he can get over that then I think it’s a reasonably even fight. Or at least a damned interesting one.
ludakrish - February 10, 2012
Leben would be coming back after a year and Cung Le’s shelf life isn’t too much longer. Leben would almost certainly be a -250/300 favourite, but I can still see a fit and motivated Le winning.
ludakrish - February 10, 2012
I was coming in to say that!
soilworker - February 9, 2012
I think you made a small typo on the twitter bonus, supposed to be 5k
Horselover Fat - February 9, 2012
give him miller
he wants a fight.
barzillatron - February 9, 2012
this is a great idea
Earl Montclair - February 9, 2012
its perfect because they're both big name guys who are way outside of contention
and they’ll be a great test for each other.
Miller and Le both need high profile fights to justify their high pay.
Nate Wilcox - February 9, 2012
Mayhem or Dan?
IRodC - February 9, 2012
mayhem
then again whats dan doing?
barzillatron - February 9, 2012
taking care of his baby I would assume.
Earl Montclair - February 9, 2012
Probably
Though I would love it if he choked the hell out of Le
IRodC - February 9, 2012
yep.
that would be excellente
Earl Montclair - February 9, 2012
I like it
Miller needs a fight, and a fight with Le is an interesting one stylistically speaking.
HeadKickOfDoom - February 9, 2012
my thoughts exactly
i striker vs. grappler fight. miller was way over his head for bisping. give him someone that doesnt have such good take down defense. Miller would most likely be fighting for his job against a opponent he should beat and if he doesnt ship him out.
barzillatron - February 9, 2012
striker vs. grappler
DRINK!!!!!
soilworker - February 9, 2012
I’m not a fan of the Mayhem fight. I wanna see Miller fight Credeur.
I like Leben or Stann.
M C M - February 9, 2012
I think
With the right matchup, Cung Le can put on a fun fight for sure.
HeadKickOfDoom - February 9, 2012
Yes
hes still fun to watch.
Tats16 - February 9, 2012
Give him a young guy
like Nick Ring or Court McGee.
djfivenine - February 9, 2012
Cung vs Hardy
Kenya_MMA - February 9, 2012
Dan will get crushed.
Earl Montclair - February 9, 2012
Did Hardy move up to 185?
TorQus - February 9, 2012 via mobile
Cung Le is probably the only fighter in the UFC that pulling guard is effective against
IRodC - February 9, 2012
Have him fight Demian Maia to teach Maia once and for all that he is NOT a kickboxer.
Machiel Van - February 9, 2012
this is solid also
Earl Montclair - February 9, 2012
Maia would sub Cung easily
ElliotMatheny - February 9, 2012
Then Maia would remember he's really good at subbing people
it’s a win either way.
Balrog - February 9, 2012
He never forgot
as it turns out, it’s kind of hard to sub other BJJ black belts (Anderson, Miranda, Grove, Dan Miller, Santiago; Maia outgrappled everyone but Anderson), and powerhouse wrestlers like Munoz/ Weidman.
ElliotMatheny - February 10, 2012
I think he legitamely forgot about his subbing abilities
after a tragic coconut accident. His trainers were barely able to convince him that Demian Maia was his real name and that he was a professional cage fighter. Or he’s has not been as aggressive in pursuing grappling opportunities and too complacent in relying on his mediocre standup skills. I think I meant one of those.
Balrog - February 12, 2012
Whoever says "no" must really hate watching exciting fighters.
Zachary Kater - February 9, 2012
Seriously who are these people who don't like to watch Cung
I mean win or lose some cool shit is gonna happen when he’s fighting.
FreeLightningLee - February 9, 2012
Cut some of his baby fat
and fight Hughes.
Mongoose44 - February 9, 2012
If it’s an in shape and motivated Cung Le, then HELL YES!
If it’s the Cung who showed up against Smith (first fight) and Wandy then hell no. Le was in piss poor shape in both those fights.
Jeremy Couturier - February 9, 2012
Because he's not a full time fighter
Also the Cung that showed up in the first Smith fight got KTFO.
discoandherpes - February 9, 2012
Exactly. It’s driven me nuts over the years. What could have been. I’m just a total mark for his skillset.
Jeremy Couturier - February 9, 2012
Cung Le vs. Retirement
Revolver Ocelot - February 9, 2012
Cung le is one of my fav fighters, I would love to see him back in SF fighting cans and has beens. And while I would not mind seeing him in the UFC again he just does not care enough(and is 39) to be competitive with many of the MW there.
Kefka - February 9, 2012
if cung le gets in fight shape
he could be fun. He was competitive with Wandy until he gassed
T.P. Grant - February 9, 2012
I agree....
no brainer, put Cung Le vs Mayhem Miller. It will give one the chance to get back in the spot light and pretty much end the career of the other….at least in Zuffa.
Troop - February 9, 2012
Cung Le is alot of fun to watch
that wandy fight was pretty spectacular.
Dunno how you match up Cung with some of the fighters considering he comes with a hefty price.
I guess Miller would be the most logical fight since both of them are uh.. celebrities from strikeforce.
elmojo - February 10, 2012
His pricetag alone is going to make it hard to find a good matchup.
Bisping, Stann, Belcher, Maia, Mayhem Miller. I think they are all coming off losses so it makes sense in that respect, but as far as rankings go it could all come down to a timing thing. Whomever is available at the right time. Would like to see Cung spinning around the cage again for sure.
